We stumbled in out of convenience on a monday night. Only a few tables were occupied, and we were able to pick up a bottle of wine next door, which was wonderfully situated since this is a BYOB restaurant. The menu is extensive, offering both sushi and a wide variety of cooked entrees. It took me a little while to decide since I wasnt expecting so many options, let alone the taka soecial menu, which lets you choose teo appetizers, two rolls and teo soecial rolls, which sounds like a great deal (we will be doing this next time!) What we did order, was the pork gyoza and the tuna tataki to start. Both were fantastic, and maybe the freshest tuna I have ever had. My guest ordered the sushi deluxe, which came with a lovely array of fresh fish. I was able to take a taste of the yellowtail served with chili crisp, and I could have had a whole plate of it by myself! I decided on a build your own poke bowl, which was so much fun to build and everything felt fresh and beautiful. We are already planning our next trip here! Updating my review because it's been some time and I think Taka deserves it. In comparison to any other sushi place in Summit, Taka is definitely the best. Their rolls are always fresh. The rock shrimp appetizer is great if you like shrimp. The tempura isn't too heavy or greasy. I tried the Green Toro toll for the first time and really enjoyed it. The spicy tuna crunch is also good. It's affordable, really solid Japanese food. Comfortable inside, the service is pleasant. It's a nice staple to have in Summit. It was a Saturday night and literally just 2 other tables were taken and there didn't appear to be any take out activity. On previous visits it was always a happening place. The food was fine. I would say it is no better or worse than the average sushi place which is quite common and easy to find. I got a standard sushi dinner and a yellowtail jalapeño appetizer. Why I rated the place two stars is that I found out later they charged me a different tip than I gave. I keep a copy of the receipt with the tip specifically to watch out for this type of thing. Wow. I can't believe that I haven't reviewed Taka in awhile... Well, for me, it's our local sushi joint! And a BYOB! It is usually easy to get a seat and service is friendly and good. To start, love the edamame and seaweed salad, as well as shrimp shumai. All fresh and delicious. We have sampled a lot here. My personal favorite is the jumbo taka roll. Bf loves the beef nagimaki. We have had a variety of entrees and sushi here and all has been very good. They have a back room with larger booths that can seat 6-8 easily and the area is a bit quieter. We usually have our girls night out in a back booth. Parking is summit style with street parking or nearby lots (free after 6pm.) read more

We've been coming to Taka Sushi for over 5 years and it's our favorite sushi spot in the area. The service is friendly and attentive. It can be extremely busy on the weekends with long wait times but it's worth it. Also, this is a BYOB place. The sushi is always excellent quality, fresh and consistent. They have really good appetizers too. We usually get the sunomono (amazing), shrimp gyozas (pan fried on one side), baby tako, pickles, rainbow roll and plenty of sushi/sashimi. Came in on my lunch, I have a usual sushi spot in town that I go to but I figured I'd go here to try it out. Service was very alert. Couldn't really tell if they were nice haha until at the end when I asked the lady if she didn't mind if I stayed just a little bit t finish some work. She smiled and said of course take your time. So that was sweet of her. I ordered the tuna tataki in ponzu sauce... it was ok... I've had better. I can't really say what the issue was... was lacking something... flavor?? Then I ordered what seemed popular which was the Jumbo take roll. I was not pleased... the rice was not stick and the roll maybe wasnt tightened up because everytime I tried to pick it up it would all fall apart. Each one. So it was a hassle to eat. Got the green salad and while the ginger dressing was good, I am not a fan of iceberg lettuce green salads on a plate. Is rather a bowl and lettuce that isn't so large that you have to cut it. Got my usual, tuna avocado rolls. I used to get the yellowtail scallion but remembered I thought it was a bit fishy tasting the last time I had it. Other than that the overall service was not so terrible when so many yelp reviewers here complained about it. I didn't have any sushi there so I can't say anything about the quality of fish. But I had Yaki Udon with beef, which was strange - It was pretty sour, which I did not expect at all. I thought the sauce should have been on the sweeter&heavier side? I thought it was pretty different from typical Yaki Udon that other restaurants serve. Also, the portion was pretty small for $14 something. My boyfriend got a chicken teriyaki bento box, which was around $17 and he agreed that it was a bit overpriced and they could've made the portion bigger. Came here for a birthday dinner for a friend and was initially dissatisfied with the menu selection of sushi...who doesn't have a Philadelphia Roll? But after opting for one of the Specialty Rolls, I realized that it was unnecessary for them to focus on the basics. After checking out two other Sushi restaurants in Summit I settled on Taka Sushi and I was glad I did. The owner couple were extremely attentive and made sure my meal was just right. The sushi is fresh and what your would expect from a top notch sushi place. The tempura appetizer was good and the sushi choices were well presented. There is no liquor license so bring your saki and Japanese beer with you or walk a few buildings down the street to the wine and liquor store and purchase what you need. I would have given a 5/5 but it was kind of dark at the sushi bar (rear of the restaurant) and the clear glass refrigerator where the raw fish was displayed could be better presented. Just ordered from this place tonight. There prices are absolutely ridiculous, but the foods pretty good. My biggest issue with them is that I ordered 2 orders or edamame and 2 avocado and cucumber rolls. I always eat my rolls with eel sauce, but they literally charge you .50 for a baby half cup of it. It's so ridiculous, and it's even more frustrating when the lady is fighting with me on the phone! Like NO it's a dollar for a full cup. What a joke!
