Absolutely dreadful in every way. Not only were the wait staff unhappy and rude, but the place had the ambience of a cemetary. 6:30pm on a Friday night and this place had nobody there and it was easy to see why once the food came. The prices were always steep, very steep, but they have now not only increased the prices, but drastically reduced the size of the portions. We got the sushi for 2 boat and normally this is enough for us both to leave feeling very well fed. Well, not anymore, there is hardly any rice under the sad little paper thin pieces of fish and the rolls could have been better at a 7/11 convenience store. Flavorless small unappealing portions which are just woeful. We will not be going back. We've been going to this place for 20 years and it has progressively gone downhill, now to the point that we will just go to the other places nearby. I used to frequent here back in the day, but sorry to say things have clearly gone WAYYYY downhill. Ambiance: Poor attention to detail. We were given two dishes stacked together with a piece of avocado wedged between them as appetizer side plates. Food: Miso Eggplant app was cut super thick making it difficult to eat and it had a weird slimy consistency. There was far too much sauce on and it had a dollop of ketchup on each bite. I'm sorry but if you can't do a proper miso sauce, don't try to decorate it with ketchup! Just take it off your menu. No Japanese dish uses ketchup. It tasted gross and was super off putting. Spice girl roll: fish did not taste fresh. We left it. Alaska roll: meh. California roll: basic but okay on ingredients. At least the cucumber and avocado tasted fresh. Dynamite roll: the nori was super soggy and rubbery. Very hard to eat. Everything was falling apart. Rice in all the sushi was bland and cold. Service: attentive at first, but slow once orders were in. This used to be a place you could go for fresh Americanized sushi, sadly not anymore. read more

My wife sent me there to pick her up 3 Eel rolls with cucumber. I get there and say to myself, get something for yourself. I picked a fish dish with no rice. Believe me when I say it was one of the worst meals I have had in 85 years. Tasteless fish with no flavor except if you used the fire hot stuff they included. This place is an absolute NO,NO! The best part of the meal was the Pepto Bismol which was required post meal. Perhaps they should include a bottle as a gift for purchasing any meall there. I have been dining here for years. This is a reliable Japanese restaurant in town. But Yuki Hana is not the same. Their success has made them quite arrogant. The service has regressed and often times can be quite rude when things don't go their way. Giving fellow neighbors a heads up- prejudice is pretty high here. I haven't been up in the Madison area for a while, and I had gotten sushi from here once or twice in the past. So when I was in Madison I knew I had to stop by again. WOWWW, I was amazed. The Shrek roll is just scrumptious. It's pricy but worth it for the amount of pieces. The sweet potato roll was perfect and one of the better ones I've had. The salmon sashimi was delightful as well. Be careful ordering mochi ice cream. The waitress didn't bother to tell us that there are 3 tiny little mochi ice cream per order so we ordered 4 thinking it was 1 mochi ice cream per order. $27 of mochi ice cream is just ridiculous. Overpriced sushi and is just average. read more

I ordered 2 order of Avocado Rolls, 2 order of California Rolls, 1 order of Spicy Crab Meat Roll, 1 order of Spicy Tuna Roll and it costed me little over $51. 1 order equates 6 pieces of maki and thought it was a bit pricey for the quantity. However, taste wise they were all very good. Love that the rolls were not loaded with chunk of rice and I could thoroughly enjoy the ingredients used for the roll. If you love sushi, you have to try this place. I have been enjoying it for years, as an after work dinner. Sometimes I order to go, but many times I eat inside. No matter where I go for sushi, I compare it to Yuki Hana . The rolls are delicious, fresh, great combinations of ingredients for the most delectable flavor. I go to other places and try to have them duplicate the special rolls here, and they never measure up. I usually get the volcano roll, or green Phoenix which I love. But I just tried the splendid roll which is now my new favorite. This place is very clean, excellent service, their take out service is always busy, which keeps the food fresh, since it moves out quickly since they are busy inside and to go. Tried this place out since we live close. Nice ambiance, love the decor inside. I ordered 3 sushi roll which were good, tasted fresh. My BF ordered the chicken teriyaki, which also tasted good. Salad was your standard offering with premade dressing. Soup was decent and had a good flavor. Both rolls were on the larger side with the spicy tuna being the better of the two. Horrible quality of fish, not sure how people can rate this place so high, and if this is the best quality in Jersey then thats a shame. Ordered the Sashimi boat for 2 with 15 kinds of sashimi. It came with the most basic types of "sashimi" imitation crab meat, regular shrimp and im surprised they didn't throw in some sweet egg to complete the variety or crap. The boat cost 65 bucks which is ridiculous considering the amount of goodness you can get in Las Vegas for that much. We wanted to explore other sushi options in our area, so many family tried Yuki Hana. We ordered the sushi and sashimi for 2 (although we had 3 people), and it was more than enough food. We were surprised that it came with more sashimi than sushi and arrived in a huge boat. The meal also came with two miso soups and two salads. The salad had too much dressing but otherwise tasted okay. The miso soup was on the salty side. The fish itself was not super fresh, which you could tell visually (e.g., the tuna had an inconsistent color), and from how it tasted (fishy). The fishy taste definitely lingered long after the dinner. If your'e looking for sushi, I think it's worth spending a little more for Nikko in Whippany, where the fish is much fresher. read more

This place is over priced, BUT, and this is a big but, the fish is super fresh. I ordered the first raw fish appetizer and despite expecting more flavor, the freshness of the fish resonated. My disappointment was soon replaced with contentment. We shelled out $60 for two, which seems awfully expensive for sushi, however, you get what you pay for (That is a happy belly and not one rumbling to your bowels). The roll that was really a hit is the Spice Girl roll. Spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy himachi mingling together in rice and seaweed covered in tobiko. It's amazing. Madison has only a few truly good places to eat out, and Yuki Hana is one of them. In terms of sushi, well....it's our pride and joy. The decor is phenomenal, bright, and has a very classical Japanese style to it. You can almost always hear smooth jazz playing from the stereo system as the master sushi chefs at the bar slice up the evening's fresh selections. Then comes the food, which is nothing short of spectacular. I've been to this restaurant dozens of times and not once has my dining experience been the same because every sushi chef has his own art and vision of wha tthe dish should look like. Sometimes there are simpler designs, and other times you can get dishes that are nothing short of works of art. It's really quite amazing at times how they serve your food here. (Not to mention...the food is incredible) Yuki Hana features the standard Japanese entrees and an extensive line of their own special rolls. There's a new roll available nearly every time I come here, which is simply awesome. The appetizers are adventurous, exotic, and offbeat (one of their signature appetizers is called Treasure Island, which is assorted sashimi bites over half an avocado with a special spicy mayo-like sauce. It's possibly one of the greatest foods to come along since the first caveman discovered you could cook meat over a fire. And, of course, it's served beautifully). The staff is always wonderful. They are incredible nice and friendly every time. The fare can get expensive, but it's no different than the other sushi places around here (such as Mitsuba in Chatham, and Monster in Summit) and the food is much, much better. From the outside it looks like the Cobra Kai Dojo from the original Karate Kid. Anything circa 1982 to 89' is excellent (bill & ted). The doors remained open which brought in a really nice breeze and natural light. Lot's of black lacquer in decor, or so it appeared to be. In any event I was very comfortable here. Made me smile. The service is prompt, and warm, and formal, yet relaxed. The Order: Yellowtail Roll Tuna Roll Chicken & Beef Bento Box Sashimi Sushi Miso Soup Salad with Peanut Dressing The verdict: Super fresh and delicious. The rolls were simplistic. Nori, rice, Tuna for one and the Yellowtail roll had scallion. Just minimal, perfect temperature, and right sized for a bite. The addition of the scallion was a nice subtle hint of crunch and spice. The Bento Box was a combo of Teriyaki Beef and Chicken. Not mixed but in separate sections. This was a real piece of steak seared to a perfect medium and lightly sauced. The chicken was a whole thin breast again cooked to perfection and very much not dry. Fried rice done right with egg scramble and fresh veggies. They give the option of Gyoza or Shu Mai. But went with the Gyoza and was not disappointed. They seemed homemade with a very thin dumpling giving the pork a chance to headline. Perfect. Sashimi platter had beautiful pieces of Yellowtail, Salmon, Tuna, Shrimp, and Crab. All tasted like they were caught just that day. Miso soup and salad nice refreshing compliments. We kept them in the table and ate throughout the meal. I love Sushi Lounge in Morristown but this is a tough contender. read more

This is my and the family's favorite local Japanese restaurant in the area. My husband is more a sushi conoisseur than I am. The rolls are creative, innovative and delicious. Examples...rolls with lobster, soft shell crab....the jalapeno and toro as an appetizer was delicious and lobster salad with mango is tantalizing but these are specials and not offered all the time. Other interesting rolls we like are Black Jack Roll (shrimp tempura, spicy crunchy tuna, avocado with black tobiko on top) and when I was pregnant, I had the "cooked' sushi roll called Pikachu roll (crunch cooked white fish, avocado, shrimp, crab stick wrapped with tobiko with white seafood with chef's sauce) If you ask my 4 year old daughter what is her favorite restaurant, this is it! She was asked this question at a My Gym episode and I think it threw the instructors off as they would expect from a child like McDonald's or Applebees or CPK. Why her favorite? she actually likes sitting in the restaurant but is okay on takeout. Her favorite dish is Chicken Yaki Soba and would eat the whole dish! I've ordered this for the kids when we have company and all the kids "slurp" up the noodles. For the cooked food, I like the duck, scallop and tofu teriyaki. Actually any type of ingredient with that teriyaki sauce is yummy. I'm a poor student, so generally when it comes to sushi (or really anything), I try to go for quantity over quality. Then I stepped into Yuki Hana. My friend and I ordered about 5 rolls together (I'm sorry it was while ago and I forget which ones they were), but ALL of them were delicious and the QUALITY of the seafood was really noticeable! Yuki Hana is almost a hidden gem in the Madison area. I have been going there for years, and I'm surprised how many local people don't know about it. I've also found that just about everyone I bring ends up being a fan. It is a full-menu Japanese restaurant, which of course most people equate with "sushi" but their menu goes far beyond sushi, and honestly if you only get the sushi here, you are missing out on other great Japanese dishes. The restaurant itself is located in a strip mall right on the Main St Madison, very conveniently located and has ample parking. The decor is nice, fresh, and has an intimate feel without being claustrophobic. They have booths, tables, as well as a sushi bar. The staff has always been courteous and I have a great time eating here. The sushi: well since most to many Japanese food = sushi, I should start here. The sushi here is excellent and reasonably priced. The presentation is nice, and I've never encountered "fishy" smelling fish here. The special rolls are very well thought out, and extremely tasty. I've had friends get the "love boat" full of sushi and sashimi, as well as other great sushi entrees, and all were good The "other" Japanese food: It's always a disappointment when I look at reviews for a Japanese restaurant and just see a ton of reviews about "sushi", as if all they had was Sushi on the menu. Yukihana also has superb teriyaki dishes, noodle dishes, hot pot dishes, hibachi-style dinners, appetizers, and most importantly, their awesome tempura. I'm also particularly fond of their Sukiyaki, which is flavorful and filling, without being overly salty. And then, there is my favorite thing on the whole menu: the dinner boxes. Not sure if you want sushi, or something else, or just want a little of everything? Well the dinner boxes are for you. They come complete with soup, salad, appetizers, rice, entree, and some type of sushi. They are all extremely good, and an incredible value. This is our family's local sushi place. It's close by (we walk), great selection of both rolls, sashimi and a variety of cooked food. My son loves the japanese soda and fine-tuned his chopstick skills here, quickly moving on from the rubber band version they provided to the 'real' ones. It's BYOB - and lucky enough is in the same strip mall as Main St. Wine; close enough to nip out to after you've ordered and still have time for a glass before your food arrives.
