    Rising sun roll

Stopped in for really good sushi across the street from my office. A little disappointed they didn't sell alcohol, but I got over it. They've got a huge roll selection, and I settled on the Volcanic roll, Rising sun roll, and Kamikaze roll. All came out fast, they were quite filling and, also very delicious. Service was strong too. I'd definitely come back again.

My boyfriend and I went here on our second date two years ago and it was time to return. We were greeted by name by the wonderful owner and were immediately seated at our former table by the window which felt very nostalgic and special. The menu is extensive, varied and obviously carefully crafted. We chose several appetizers to share, a crab and avocado salad which was in incredible pairing; a tuna truffle tartare which, again was a wonderfully clever but subtle pairing; and tofu squares encased in a crispy coating which tasted clean and delicious. The graceful owner was attentive and helpful with our choices and checked in on us to ensure we were happy and had all that we needed. We felt valued and cared for. I really enjoyed the Monkey Monkey Roll. It arrived so perfectly presented and tasted out of this world! It's definitely worth a trip to Morristown to enjoy the whole experience of this hidden gem! Thanks to Asahi Sushi for making us feel so welcome and for feeding us such beautifully curated food. Highly recommend

    Chicken teriyaki

This is a very cozy small restaurant right in the heart of Morristown. All the tables were filled when I arrived on a Friday night. Cleary, the sushi must be very good! However, I'm not a big fan of sushi so I went with the only good alternative - chicken teriyaki! I also ordered miso soup and was asked if I wanted white rice and said yes (that was a three dollar additional charge). The chicken teriyaki was very fresh and delicious. There was a minimal amount of fat and I enjoyed it mixed with the rice. My one negative was the price on the website did not match the price I was charged. They did more or less honor the price on the website. The miso soup was what you would pretty much expect. Overall, the food was filling and good.

    California roll

Sushi is supposed to be a delicacy. It should be flavorful, highlighting the notes of the components - the salmon, the tuna, the avocado, and famously, the rice. As I chew, I look forward to everything melding together awesomely in the mouth. I didn't get any of that from my late Wednesday lunch at Asahi. My California roll and veggie gyoza were just bland. The California roll had barely noticeable avocado or imitation crab, while the veggie gyoza, although crispy, had bland and colorless insides. I'm not even sure what I ate. The spicy salmon roll came the closest to success - it's a deep fried roll, thankfully without cream cheese confusing everything like in a Philadelphia roll. But each roll was too big to eat in one bite, really testing my chopstick skills by having to hold the partially eaten roll together. I did like the special orange and honey tea, which actually was delicate. At $48 before tip for one person, this was relatively expensive for an experience I didn't really enjoy.

Something has changed. We have been coming for many years and have always been greeted by the kind, tall Asian woman who seemed to know everyone's name. During Covid she would include a handwritten note thanking you for your order and even including a small portion of ice cream for my daughter. Today we ordered our usual chirashi bowl. It was disappointing to say the least. It did not include a variety of fish ( see pic) but instead had "fillers" like pickled radish, seaweed salad, some slices of avocado and giant glob of ginger and string radish for $40. I realize that inflation has hit us all but even when I ordered a few mos ago, it did not look like this. My "old" Chirashi order would have Furikake sprinkled over the rice before adding the fish but today it did not. Sadly, this was always our go-to sushi spot but we will be looking elsewhere now.

This place now takes the spot of "my favorite place in Morristown". Really does feel like a cute little spot in Japan. I love how tiny it is and how you kind of need to get lucky if you do a walk in - which is what happened to us. My husband and I walked in on a busy Saturday and we SOMEHOW got a window spot (if you've seen the inside, you know the 2 window spots are prime real estate). So that was already exciting. We tried the orange tea and had it with ice. It comes with a spoon so you can eat the orange in there - HIGHLY recommend. The gyoza soup was very flavorful and a good portion size. My husband got the rice bowl and loved it (needed to take some of it home, it is very filling). The sushi is, to me, the best in Motown. Tuna was bright red and the ingredients blended in perfect harmony. Only thing...this place is veryyy expensive...almost a bit shocking. I'm not sure if they need to do this because they're a small business and it's insanely difficult to stay open in Morristown unfortunately (feels like every day a place gets closed down). This is a gem and deserves to be protected. We don't need another trendy crepe place to come to town. I'll be back to Asahi!

I was in the area for work, was looking for takeout and came across Asahi Sushi. It was highly rated, so I decided to take a chance and am so glad I did. The owners are the absolute loveliest people and it's apparent they take pride in their restaurant. Even though I was only there briefly, I felt so welcomed. The food was fresh and delicious. There is a paid parking lot in the back of the building. I wish I lived closer and hope to have the opportunity to eat here again.

Sushi is just okay but not top tier. And prices are out of control tbh.. 2 rolls 1 sushi dinner 1 miso and 1 green tea was $100.

Parking is tricky but there is a paid public lot across the street. Inside, there is a cute little seating area with picnic benches and some Adirondack chairs. Near the seating, there is a water cooler and plastic cups. Being located in the heart of Morristown, the prices are a bit on the higher side, but the ice cream is 100% homemade and sourced with local, seasonal ingredients. I love seeing all of the creative flavors and there are always so many different options to choose from. In the refrigerated section, there are pints and cakes available to take to-go. Monthly/seasonal flavors are offered as well. You can even create a custom ice cream flavor for a special occasion. Service is also very friendly and happy to help, even when they are very busy. They are very involved in the local community and source ingredients from surrounding local businesses. I am part of a local running club in town and each year they collaborate on a special flavor called "Neon Swirl". I can't wait for my next trip back to Beenie's to try more amazing flavor creations. So this must be one of the best IceCream places for miles, and IT IS! When we came in & got our ticket, we were # 56. The # they had served so far was 35! So it gave us a few min to walk up & down the streets to view all the cute stores. After about 10 min they called our #~ we felt like, holy cow! What fast service! I had the mint chocolate chip w hot fudge. But by the time I was able to sit down on their bench in the store, my hot fudge had mostly melted my IceCream quite fast. So I went to the counter to ask for half a scoop so I wasn't eating icecream soup. The girls behind the counter said to ask JOHN, an owner(his dad is also an owner) & when I showed him my melted icecream & that I would pay for an extra scoop, and you know what JOHN said? He said they can't add it to my existing cup & turned around (to my surprise & delight) scooped up a "healthy size scoop" into a sept cup, ON HIM, $0!!!!! I told my husband- omg, now he has a customer for life! So cool! That one act of kindness was sooo nice. And we chatted (even tho it was soo busy - he took the time to answer my questions about the how long it take to a big jug/gallon container and he said 15 min- from start to finish! And he said he loves his job bc he can make as many flavors/combos he can think of & it turns out to be a real creative process. I asked about catering & they don't do that, but you can order as many gallons as you want. He even shared how the NY Giants (I think that was the team-lol) ordered a BUNCH of gallons for an event they had! He & all his employees "the girls" were soooo nice. And the icecream? I've never tasted ice cream that was so creamy & the choc pieces/chip were to die for! Not like little tiny pieces and they weren't super hard, just the right size & melted in your mouth like a dream on a chocolate river! I'd be remiss to give Denville Dairy anything under 5 And bc they sell a superior product, they are super busy, the girls are super nice & good at what they do! On a weekend you should plan to have 8-10 min in line & as far as parking, you may need 15 min to find it. But bc they serve quickly - chances are parking will be available quicker than you think. But during the Summer days I think parking can be a challenge- on Sunday night- even w a full house. It was a breeze to order! Thank you John for a yummy superior product (ice scream) made w ALL NATURAL ingredients! Cheers- Ur Cust 4 Life I SCREAM FIR ICE CREAM
