I hate writing this review because, honestly, the people here were very nice. The waitress was incredibly sweet, polite, and attentive the entire time, and that's actually one of the reasons I didn't make a bigger complaint while I was there. I live only about five minutes away, so I really wanted to like this place. I ordered salmon sashimi over rice, and the bill was around $36. I also left the waitress a $10 tip because her service was excellent. Unfortunately, the salmon was still frozen in the middle. The sushi chefs apologized and explained that apparently the salmon had been kept too close to something frozen near the tuna. I understand mistakes happen, but this part bothered me: when a sushi chef is slicing salmon with a knife, I would think they can feel when the fish is still frozen. Serving it anyway shouldn't have happened. I didn't want to give the waitress a hard time because she had been so nice, so I basically ate what I could, paid, tipped, and left to go back to work. Looking back, I probably should have said more at the time. I don't think this necessarily represents the restaurant every day, so I am willing to give them another chance. Maybe this was simply a one-time mistake. The service certainly deserves another visit. For now, though, based strictly on the food I was served that day: 2.5 stars. read more

Ordered monster sushi for takeout. I got the house salad with ginger dressing, the chicken skewers and the Morristown roll. The salad was a decent portion but I wasn't impressed with the ginger dressing. Super oily with just carrot chunks. I prefer a creamier more cohesive dressing so wouldn't get that again. The chicken skewers were perfect for a little extra protein and cooked well. The Morristown roll was delicious! Good portion too. I would def get again but my only critique is the pieces were cut sooo thick that it was really not pleasant to try and eat in one bite. read more

I loved sitting right next to the smaller of two fish tanks. But, next time I visit, I will choose a table away from the path from the front door to the kitchen. Ladies room was unacceptable. Garbage can is broken so everyone piles their discarded paper towels in a mountain above the garbage can. Toilet seat was sticky. Floor looked like they only clean the center. I used to live not too far from this area about a decade or so ago so I'm familiar with this establishment. I had to come back for a work trip and realized it was in walking distance from our hotel. They have not changed in quality and the pricing is very fair. The menu is overwhelmingly long but the fun names take the edge off having to pick 3 out of the 50 or so combinations. We ended up ordering wayyyyy too much. The food comes out quickly so I'd suggest ordering a few before going ham since sushi isn't something you can really save for later. As most places in the area, it's BYOB. A lot of togo orders were flying out the door. The godzilla decor is hilarious. Parking sucks in the area so I was so happy we were able to walk this. Service was great. This isn't your "authentic" sushi joint - it's fusion with a signature amount of roll varieties that makes it a fun joint for when you want a ton of flavor while eating a bit healthier. read more

Visited here for a takeout pick up order for the first time during a weeknight. I enjoyed it very much that the following day I did another pick up order to take to the airport. I would definitely come back here again however please keep in mind parking in this area is very very scarce. Much easier to do curbside pick up also again if you can find a curb to place your car. That is my only drawback about this entire location. The menu is very innovative very broad and has some thing for everybody. There is a huge variety of cooked and uncooked as well as multi layered maki rolls that are just super fun. I would definitely come back here again when I am in town. read more

We frequent this place on our lunch hour. We have never waited to sit down, always served promptly and very friendly staff. The place is immaculately clean every where. Most importantly the sushi is fresh, delicious and they will make special orders too. A great variety of special rolls on the menu. You have to pay the parking meter. Very big portion and just great flavor. Impressed for a simple dish. The sushi was AMAZING!! I am a big spicy tuna person and this roll was only tuna and rice, but it was jam packed with flavor. For a roll with only two ingredients, it was very good. Dinosaur roll was large and a decent roll. The flavors melded well together, however, I think I actually enjoyed the spicy tuna more!! My friend got the tuna and scallop sashimi and said both were good quality. She is a big Philly roll lover and really enjoyed this roll as well. WHOA MOMMA. I have been wanting to try this place for a while now. As an avid sushi lover (and half Japanese), I take a lot of pride in my ability to consume ridiculous amounts of sushi. I came in and placed a carry-out order. The woman that took my order was like an octopus magician! She gave me undivided attention but also somehow managed to handle everything else front of house as well. She was taking care of customers, cleaning tables, organizing and refilling supplies - I was absolutely impressed with her work ethic. My order was perfectly filled and super fast (and it was a big order!). The size of the rolls and the quantity and quality of fish was wonderful. The portions were very generous - know that the prices are put directly towards what you're getting. We did a combination of rolls and sushi/sashimi and we were blown away. While I was waiting, i was offered green tea or miso soup - it was a really sweet touch that left me reminiscing about old traditional places around where I grew up. As I was looking around while waiting, all their plants in the front seem so well cared for - I loved the serene vibe and how authentic but fun it felt. I will absolutely be back. On 2/2/19, I came for lunch prior to seeing "Legends in Concert" at MPAC. I figured the close location to the theater was a major plus. Sushi quality was very disappointing. Plus the meal prep was extremely slow with only a handful of customers dining. I had ordered the Dinosaur Roll $15.50. Two chefs were preparing the orders. My order was placed at 2:15 PM and received it at 2:35 PM. About 2:30 PM, I asked if my roll was ready. In addition, I mentioned that I was attending a show around the corner at 3 PM. The chef told me he was just starting it. This sushi roll ingredients were so loose. Each time I would pick it up the roll with chopsticks, it kept falling apart. Monster Sushi currently has outdoor dining in a courtyard adjacent to their restaurant, fitted with string lights, pretty outdoor heaters, and a hodgepodge of garden chairs and tables. Their menu is super extensive -- my friend and I were honestly perusing our options for 15 minutes before we could make a decision. Ultimately, I went with the New Jersey Roll and the California Roll, and I was totally floored by both. The New Jersey Roll was a complete dream, a delicious combination of spicy mayo, eel sauce, perfect avocado, and fresh salmon. The California Roll might've been the best I've ever had, and I appreciated that you can order it with either King Crab or mock imitation crab (which is the one I ordered and loved). I also tried the Christmas Roll that my friend ordered but for me it really just seemed like a mouth full of tuna. She loved it though, so I think it might just not be my preferred roll. Our waitress Jessie was polite and efficient, but she seemed to be the only one working. It was a full courtyard so it did seem like they needed someone else on that shift. One other odd thing to note is that they're using plastic plates and red solo cups, I assume to use disposable during COVID times. While that's a nice gesture, it did seem like a strange choice and it was in disagreement as a health decision with how close some of the outdoor tables were to each other. I had high hopes going into Monster Sushi. Obviously too high! The extensive menu options are great, but the prices are STEEP considering such small portion sizes. Especially for the "specialty" sushi rolls. Although they're typically more in cost (as expected), they're also usually heavier in ingredients and size. Not here!! For $17 the new jersey roll was not the best. I've had better elsewhere. It was just okay. Now, the elephant eye roll. Out of about 6 ingredients, only TWO were both visible and present on my palate. The server INSISTED there was shrimp and seaweed in there, though I could not taste it @ all, she continued to insist it was in there. She was also very curt and impolite. Especially after I asked for the elephant eye roll to be removed from my bill, I'd only taken a bite and the rest was in tact and untouched. First, she said only the manager could oblige and he wasn't there. I said, ok, can you call him? I'll wait suddenly, he's in the kitchen in the back & ok'd the removal.
