I forgot what this is but it's delicious

Love this town. Had a lovely meal here just as they opened. Everything arrived timely and the sushi is fresh Excellent service and a warm inviting atmosphere it's a small place but it has a good vibe

It's way nicer inside than you'd think from the storefront. Classic interior with wood accents and piano music being piped in. I'd come in here just to relax and unburden myself. And the proprietors are authentically Japanese. The older gentleman on the sushi bar was chatting with his two coworkers in an unhurried tone the whole time. It was so calming. On a Saturday at 2p, there were two 2-tops and two solo diners in the restaurant, with capacity for at least three times that. I started with a green salad with ginger dressing. It was fresh, crisp, and tangy. My mains were a California roll and the popular Jackpot Johnnie roll. The latter is melt-in-your-mouth incredible - spicy and sweet, fresh, and flavorful. Unfortunately, the former was just serviceable. It might've needed wetter rice, and bigger avocado flavor. Overall: Yama doesn't serve the most incredible sushi I've had in Denville, but it's a great place to use a weekend to wind down.

The place is nice and average size for a Denville restaurant (around 8 tables plus the bar seating), our server was very nice. We got the miso soup and shrimp shumai to start - miso soup was good, and the shumai wasn't fantastic but it wasn't bad either. The Mountain Lakes roll was good, nothing incredible but the yellowtail was good and it was a light roll, fyi it has 6 pieces on it (it would be good if they'd add how many pieces come in each roll). The Johnny roll was better, it does come with tempura flakes on top so it is very filling, I would recommend trying this one. Overall a good experience.

Pretty unassuming atmosphere, plain and simple, and cannot accommodate a larger group. Perfect for a party of 2, or single seats at the sushi bar. They also do not take reservations, and they are BYOB with a liquor store down the street (but cannot be considered nextdoor, may want to oick it uo by car beforehand) Nigiri pieces do come with wasabi underneath the fish, and on top of the rice which is a fairly authentic practice, but caught me off guard. My boyfriend absolutely loved this, but I did need to get myself a simple roll instead. Prices are a little high but the portions are generous. Their mochi icecream was a great end to the evening as well!

Forgot to document my wife and I's trip to Yama Sushi at the end of November so here it is! Sushi was super fresh and really enjoyed the unique rolls. Aesthetic was very comfortable and I enjoyed the jazz that was playing while we were there. Though the service was mostly good, I thought we waited too much for only two groups of people in, but definitely polite.

A small to medium sized venue in downtown Denville. Bright modern, yet traditional interior look. There is only metered street parking around, but it appears to be free after 6pm. I didn't pay that much attention to the schedule. Sushi bar seating & table seating, & its BYOB. Fast & friendly staff. I had the Spicy Kani Salad, Blue Fin Chu Toro Sushi, Salmon Sushi, Jackpot Johnnie Roll. Not a fan of for sushi you only get ONE piece for the price. I know, I know, they're not the only one to do this, but I'm always more of a fan of the places where you at least get two pieces. Their Kani salad was a nice change of pace, it was actually more like a salad, than just shredded Kani coated in spicy Mayo. Very good! The Salmon sushi was delicious, so fresh. The Blue Fin Chu Toro, also very good & fresh, but the salmon had it beat. The speciality roll, Jackpot Johnnie was also very very good. Overall, definitely will be a return trip the next time I'm in the area. Grades: Spicy Kani Salad: A Blue Fin Chu Toro Sushi: B Salmon Sushi: A+ Jackpot Johnnie Roll: A++

I love this Sushi place. There is just something unique with the taste when I go to my favorite place in my town. Staff is always wonderful. Seating on a Saturday at Noonish is never a challenge to be seated. Plenty of parking behind the restaurant.

It's a relatively small storefront that you could easily enough miss while passing through, and that would be unfortunate. I've been to many sushi places. Take nothing away from this one, but there are certainly those that offer better asthetics, whether in the fancier or earthier direction. The prices at this one are perhaps average. However, firstly from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, the service is very welcoming and attentive. Meanwhile, the food more than holds its own. The tea is great, the sushi is fresh and very well made. Go here with confidence that you will be treated well and enjoy a delicious meal.

We love the sushi here, especially the mackarel and oyster sushi. The salmon is fresh. Overall, great place for Japanese food.

The staff is fast and attentive and the theme / atmosphere is clean and authentic. Last table we had was Osaka inspired. We used to go to our local sushi place which was good. But each specialty roll cost between $17.00 and $19.99. 4 rolls and an app costs more than Miga - where you get everything you would want and more. The desert is also included with a few great options including my favorite- green tea ice cream. Highly recommend. Make reservations as it gets really packed. Enjoy!

The shrimp tempura roll wasn't as warm as expected, which took away from it a bit. I placed an online order and arrived a few minutes after they opened doors. They must have made in early in advance. On the positive side, the Denville King roll was definitely the standout! Really delicious and worth ordering again. Overall, a solid experience. I'd come back and try the all-you-can-eat menu next time to see how it compares!

This…read moremakes it clear that Asahi is a sushi restaurant that happens to serve ramen (that isn't very popular), not a ramen restaurant with a couple sushi varieties. And when I sat down inside this ultra-casual restaurant - I'm pretty sure that it's a converted residential house - I only saw my fellow diners ordering sushi. So don't come here for ramen; come for an incredibly tasty, inexpensive sushi experience. I had an amazing roll, and let me tell you, the presentation is stunning. It came out sizzling on cast iron, while my server spooned garlic sauce over the top to cook it and add dazzle. Filled with avocado and spicy tuna, the portion would be perfect for sharing with someone. I also had a dynamite roll, which more or less melted in my mouth. I was less wild about the Christian crosses at every table. I'm a secular person. All in all though, Asahi qualifies as a hidden, off-the-beaten-path gem of Parsippany.

If you like garlic, withhold expectations and absolutely give it a go. The contrast was an unbelievable experience--it was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. There was sweetness, balanced by a tiny touch of spicy from the tuna plus heavy garlic in the sauce. The roll is served on a scorching hot cast iron tray, contrasted by the cool sushi inside. Every bite was a battle of soft and crispy, sweet and spicy, hot and cool--we finished it and immediately ordered a second roll. *As a nod to another review, I will acknowledge that the room got a little smoky immediately after the Amazing Roll was served and the waitress/hostess did elastic-bungee the door open for a few minutes to clear the air, but the air was clear and the door was shut soon after. If I were to change anything about our experience here, it would only be to stop at the two other occupied tables on my way out to preach about this roll and highly recommend they give it a try. I was so shocked when I saw it that I completely neglected to get a picture, and for that I apologize. Please accept this picture of the write up as a token.

The big snow storm happened weeks ago, and yet the parking lot had less spots because the snow was piled up on top of them, so we had to maneuver our way into a "made up" spot instead. Also, lately we have noticed that they have no chili oil on house for us to make our ramen spicier, which was a bit disappointing too. Again, the broth is really good and the service is nice too, we were just disappointed with these two inconveniences.

I had the Korean Kimchi soup ($17), a fabulous concoction of ramen noodles in a slightly spicy miso broth served with spam, kimchi, a soft-boiled egg, bamboo, wood-ear mushrooms, and corn. My dining companion had the Tokyo Chicken soup ($16) with udon noodles in a slightly spicy miso broth served with sliced teriyaki chicken, a soft-boiled egg, bamboo, wood-ear mushrooms, and corn. My carb-conscious dining companion seemed mildly surprised the chicken filet in her soup was breaded, rather than grilled.. but adjusted expectations accordingly. Both soups were served quickly and were fantastic. The portion sizes of our soups were very filling and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. We will definitely be back! PRO TIP #1: Parking is available in the front AND back of the building. The parking lot in front of the building facing NJ Route 10 can fill up quickly, but there is plenty of space in the parking lot behind the building and there are entrances in the front and back of the building.
