I'm far from a BBQ Pit Master so pardon my lack of knowledge of the finer points of proper grilling and smoking meats. With that disclosure outta the way, I loved Mighty Quinn's brisket! Melt-in-your-mouth tender, flavorful, a nice portion and sides were great too! I've read reviews from some BBQ die hards on how Quinn's may have lost its way from its founding years by becoming more of a chain these days but, hey, that happens when you expand - you have to have a recipe that is more easily repeatable to ensure taste and quality consistency across all locations. Not an easy feat. To me - The food hits the spot! I also had the special "burnt ends" chunks of meat slathered in some tangy goodness - Tasted great! I had the burnt ends baked beans, the sweet potato and the cornbread - and washed it all down with a New Belgium Fat Tire IPA. Excellent! The restaurant is very casual - has sort of a Chipotle ordering system: choose between a bowl option, meat sampling (which is what I had) or sandwich options. You move on down the line and choose your sides and beverage. Efficient - it works well and the staff are great at explaining all the options at this Clifton location. Pretty much what you would expect from an offshoot of the original Mighty Quinn's Barbeque in NYC. Located at The Promenade Shops At Clifton, this is a nice Mighty Quinn's Barbeque spot. It's a decent size, plenty of parking outside as part of the outlet mall and wasn't that busy on the Saturday afternoon that we dropped in. Unfortunately, not much about it screamed amazing, authentic barbeque food. The employees are mostly college kids, so you're not going to get a master / pro butcher preparing your BBQ food like at Franklin BBQ in Austin. In addition, whomever was prepping the meats at this franchise location was probably not a pit master like Hugh Mangum (aka the owner / pit master of Mighty Quinn's). As it is for any legitimate BBQ restaurant, you're going to have your selection of meats though - Brisket, Pulled Pork, Sausage, Ribs, Chicken - and variety of different sides. If you're feeling frisky and want to wet your beak with multiple meats, you can go for the 2 or 3 meat samplers. We ended up ordering the 3 Meat Sampler, where we got the Brisket (+$2), Pulled Pork and Sausage. Since there weren't really any other meats we wanted, we decided to go all in on the sides - Empanadas with Brisket, Burnt End Baked Beans, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Brussels Sprouts, Broccoli Salad, Vinegar Slaw. And, of course, for the kids, we got the Kids Meal, which were Chicken Tenders with Mac and Cheese. Verdict? Well, I do admit the Brisket was decent. It was super fatty and I've definitely done a lot worse. The Sausage was OK and the Pulled Pork was expectedly dry. I won't comment on every single side, but they were all surprisingly pretty good. Not great, but decent, good. The food wasn't hot though. Maybe my expectations were a bit low knowing that this was just a franchise of Mighty Quinn's, but the meal was decent. We gave it a shot and knowing that it wasn't going to be the original, authentic BBQ food that you get when you're going to an original location of a restaurant, the food wasn't all that bad actually. Like I said, I've done worse when it comes to BBQ and the food here was more than edible and passable for OK BBQ food. At the risk of being labeled "The Mise En Place Karen" I need to mention a couple of issues we've encountered at this location after a few visits... You'd assume it's "Restauranting 101" that all the diners at the same table should receive their food at (roughly) the same time, right? (Especially if it's just a family of four. Surely that's more than a feasible goal.) The freshly-sliced brisket (and a drink) were given to my one kid. Obviously he's going to dig in since it's still warm. By the time he was done with the meat? That's when his side was finally delivered. (Which was around the time the other three plates came out.) This happened the last time we were here, too. (And you can imagine how awkward it is for one person to be eating, the others just staring at him and later he's done and bored while the rest of us are now getting to chow down.) His brother got a 'bowl' and said the mac-and-cheese was the worst he'd ever had so myself and the Mrs. took a bite to see if he was exaggerating and... it was NOT good. That cloying odd-tasting cheese coated my mouth the rest of the night. My spicy chicken bowl with rice (so glad I didn't get the mac-and-cheese!) was pretty tasty but felt like it was missing... something. (Maybe a vegetable on the side? Especially for the price.) The bill ran us about $18-per-person and none of us left full. The staff were friendly but became easily frazzled amongst themselves trying to juggle the customers and pending orders. Besides soda and water they also serve alcohol (a cold beer might've worked wonders to get that yucky cheese taste out of my mouth). Parking lot available (which can be tough to find a spot, especially when Tommy's and the LA Fitness are booming). "BBQ in a Jersey strip mall" sums it up a bit too perfectly and I don't think we'll be coming back anytime soon. read more

The food is good. I try to get here 1-2 times a year. There was an advertisement outside for a lunch special available until 3:00. I got there at 2:45 and they did not allow me to get the special. I ordered a 2 meat combo but it was way too much food for one person, they did provide me a takeout container but I went there for the lunch portion. The special was the size portion I wanted. The food was very good. The brisket is always tasty and the baked beans too. If you want the lunch size though, go earlier. read more

Here for a late lunch, early dinner the counter staff was very friendly and helpful. The place was clean not a big crowd but nice atmosphere. The food was delicious. Truly is really mediocre barbeque. There's not a single item from my meat sampler of brisket, spare ribs, and sausage that I think is better than what a typical backyard bbq would taste like. The brisket was probably the most disappointing, too dry and like a smokier flavor of roast beef. Given that, I definitely needed a bit more fat to offset the dryness. I most definitely needed all 3 cups of bbq sauce. The ribs were ok, nothing to write about but not bad and the sausage...well it's sausage. I do wish they had some other bbq sauce flavors. Who doesn't love a good Brisket?? I don't eat Beef that often but out of the blue I might get a craving, and it's always either Brisket, Burger, or Oxtail Curry. Burgers and Oxtail are easy to get since there are plenty of good restaurants to choose from, and it's kind of difficult to mess it up anyways. But finding a place that serves good Brisket can be tricky, and anytime I order from a new place, I am always worried about getting disappointed. Thankfully, I was not disappointed this time. Mighty Quinn's does BBQ great. The pulled pork I had was tender and moist with just enough sauce. The burnt ends baked beans were delicious. Not overly sweet, substantial sized beans that weren't mushy and the nice taste of the burnt ends mixed in which were big enough to taste. Personally I am not a fan of pickled food other than pickles, but my girlfriend had all three - onions, hot peppers, and cucumbers - and liked them all very much. She also liked the coleslaw. So we got food from here the other night this review is not about the quality of food but of service and transparency. The food I will say is a solid 6.5-7. I'm from Texas so my standards are high. The issue came about with the broccoli salad. The ingredients are listed with broccoli cranberries bacon and red onions. Thank god I took the first bite of my wife would've spent our wonderful Saturday night in the ER. What they didn't list in the ingredients which is crucial and maybe they just want to kill off people with nut allergy's was ALMONDS. So will we go back possibly. I am extremely disappointed in the fact that they are not careful about listing that something has nuts in it. Also want to say if they are going to reply that the salad doesn't have nuts in it, it's sitting in my fridge I am happy to bring it back to them and show them the almonds that someone in the kitchen added. I'm not a Karen or Kevin I've worked in restaurants nuts are supposed to be listen in dishes for this exact reason just like shellfish is listed. read more

It had a very complex flavor so it wasn't just holy chipotle Batman. It was clearly recognizable as chipotle, it was just amped up in flavor. It was moist and tender - two things hard to guarantee with chicken. I could have eaten a potful of that chicken. I am still thinking about it! The only negative about this place is the lack of vegetable dish choices. The picked veggies are nice but two slices of cucumber and a few shreds of pepper and onions isn't exactly a veggie side. It's a condiment. They have brocolli salad, which I do like, but with all of these meat choices here I was dying for some more veggies. I was introduced to this place last week. I've been there 3 times since. I met a great employee there named Will. He was gracious, helpful and super knowledgeable. He helped me choose exactly what meals/platters I wanted to buy. I was very very appreciative and impressed. Yesterday the manager (whose name I didn't get) was also fantastic and helpful. I can't say enough about the people they've chosen to work there. I'm a HUGE brisket guy and there's is DELICIOUS. Also their ribs are meaty, tasty and filling. Lastly, the ambiance is very appealing. You smell the meat being cooked as soon as you walk in. We had a large catering order, 8 half trays of chicken and ribs. Everyone loved it, and raved about the food. The meats were tender, flavorful, and just amazing. There were about 24 pieces for the ribs and about 16 pieces for the chicken in each half-tray, so it fed a lot of people. Everyone asked where I got the order from, it was that good! After one previous successful order, I decided to order the 3 meat sampler (brisket [which has an upcharge], chicken and ribs), bread pudding and a brownie. The ribs were great, the chicken was ok, the brisket was terrible, it was chopped up, very dry devoid of any moisture, it looked like it was leftovers. I'd previously ordered the brisket and the ribs previously and was not disappointed. This time I was disappointed due to my anticipation for the brisket that came moist in our order before in long continuous slices, not chopped up and dry. I may not order from this place again. Promised myself I would not come back to this place after two failed attempts but my normal BBQ place is temporary closed and I was craving mac and cheese and pulled pork so I put on my big girl pants and gave it another whirl. Being a Texan I know good barbecue, and this is very basic BBQ. First of all every time I have come the food is room temperature, not even warm. I don't understand it, at least this time it was warmer than before where I had received it just plain cold. The mac and cheese although good could probably be also called soup, you can even see even in my picture the noodles are swimming and cheese sauce. You might like that, but I'm looking for mac and cheese not cheese soup. I had never had the broccoli salad before and was glad I tried it, it was delicious a little on the sweet side but paired pretty well with the meat. Pickled onions were normal but the pickles themselves had absolutely no flavor. They tasted like cucumbers that weren't left long enough to actually pickle. Lastly the meat, as you can see in my picture the brisket had a huge piece of fat, it was like half of it. And with the portions being fairly small it was kind of disappointing. The pulled pork had a bunch of hard burnt areas from what I could taste it was pretty decent. They're barbecue sauce is okay nothing to call home about. The staff there seems like they are being forced to work, they don't talk loud enough when you ask them questions and just seem bored. I hope my regular spot opens up soon. read more

A very disappointing meal. Have been to Mighty Quinn in the past and always loved the brisket. Today, the sandwitch was bad. The slices looked as though they had been presliced. They were small, very dry with no flavor and just looked old. I was focused on ordering sides while the sandwich was made so I did not see it being made. The slices could not have been sliced off a fresh brisket. Shame on me for not focusing on the sandwich as it was being prepared. Shame on Mighty Quinn for serving this brisket. Burnt ends taste like beef. It sounds odd to say but it doesn't taste anything remotely like brisket, and everything like beef stew. I didn't expect that texture. Only things I liked were the cornbread and the side Mac & coleslaw. Chicken was kind of dry, also a little pink, and has that weird mush texture like the rotisserie chickens at the supermarket. I wasn't a fan of their BBQ sauce either, which is sweet with a tart aftertaste. Overall, I thought the meats were a letdown. I read reviews beforehand so I can't blame anyone but myself.
