Uninspired nonsense. Typical diner grub. The tuna salad platter was piled with potato salad and cole slaw. Way too much for one person to down in one sitting. Cajun shrimp po boy sandwich? Not good. Unseasoned, cornmeal breaded shrimp on a basic hero roll with lettuce, tomato, and Dijon mayo. The shrimp were flavorless...but the aioli was fine. Service was ok, but seemed like a new hire. This place does not staple or put any kind of safety tape on your bags. So the driver is free to rummage through your food. So just a warning. Went there for the first time and the service was excellent you were waited on appropriately you didn't feel like you had to actually wait they were quick to take your order and so surprisingly quick to bring your food. I enjoyed a delicious Caprese Panini and my husband had a huge open face Ruben and we shared a delicious Caesar salad. I will absolutely be coming back as much as my husband will let me!! read more

Newly remodeled Park Diner is now the Nutley Diner. Clean and well lit, this Diner is totally new in appearance. The breakfast was very good and the menu choices had something for everyone. Definitely more of a breakfast place than lunch or dinner. The homefries are delicious and the food comes out quickly. I've actually ordered from here a handful of times on Uber eats but never stepped inside the diner because it's not near my home. The food when i had ordered it, is always delicious so i decided to actually stop in on a Saturday morning for breakfast. Surprisingly there was no wait, which you don't expect for a weekend. This was my first experience at Nutley Diner and I can honestly say that the people who worked tonight were EXTREMELY racist! So tonight my friend and I went to this diner to have an enjoyable meal. My friend is a chef at 2 restaurants and I was once a server so we understand the business. The moment we walked in I asked the host if we could sit somewhere other than the window seat & she said "fine pick a place and I'll follow" but it was said with an attitude. My friend and I walked to the table we wanted to sit at and in the distance I heard her say to the manager and our server "they're trying to sit wherever they want". That should've been my cue to leave right then & there but my friend & I were hungry and chose to ignore her ignorance. (Just so you know sweetie, if you're reading this, a customer can choose where they want to sit if the restaurant is mainly empty & the section they've requested isn't closed). Our waiter comes up to us, older Italian or Spanish guy and does not introduce himself. He just asks if we're ready & has an attitude when we say we need a few minutes and storms off. Mind you, there were 3 white people sitting next to us and our "server" approached them way more times than he did our table. Normally when I was serving I would go to all my tables to make sure they were okay?... but I don't know, maybe that's just me. When we were giving our order he almost walked away and I had to call him over to let him know that we weren't done. The whole time when taking our order it was if he was in a rush and couldn't WAIT to get away from us... but where were you in a hurry to? There were only 3 other tables other than ours. Also, when he took our order he didn't write anything down. Normally that means you have an amazing memory right???... well not in this guy's case. He forgot certain details from my friend's order. My friend kindly let him know the mistake and the manager corrected it... well sort of. It still came out wrong the second time. Regardless, we let it go. After all we've worked in restaurants so we understood how certain things can get messed up (although we've worked in much bigger restaurants that were also 1000x busier). Although what I've already mentioned was a bit frightening in itself, the ABSOLUTE WORST PART OCCURRED ONCE WE RECEIVED THE BILL! The bill came up to $56.35 (nothing too expensive). When it was time to pay our server, let's just call him Screw Up since he never mentioned his name, was nowhere to be found for several minutes. Tell me, Screw Up, how could you disappear for over 20 minutes when the restaurant was as dead as it was? I'm sure you weren't THAT busy were you? We had to give the bill to the manager. The manager swiped the card and then my friend had to use the bathroom. Then the manager got skeptical and asked if I was done with the bill? What?! My friend just went to the bathroom and didn't even write the tip yet. You are open 24 hours, WHAT'S THE RUSH? When my friend got back we left a tip that was over 25%, which was not deserved at ALL, but it is something we have a habit of doing when we go out. When we were leaving out of the door there were about 5-6 other white people leaving out with us but the lady host looks at my friend and I and says "have a nice night" only and directly to us. Now if you are black I'm SURE you know what that means. In that moment I knew that when we stepped out I had to look through the windows to see if she would check to see how much we tipped. And just as I suspected, this girl walked RIGHT TO OUR TABLE, OPENED THE CHECK BOOK AND LOOKED AT THE TIP. For one, there are multiples wrong with this... 1) you were not our server, just our HOST! WHY WOULD YOU LOOK IN SOMEONE ELSE'S BOOK?! 2) a 5-6 party top filled with white people JUST LEFT right along side us, wouldn't it make sense for you to check their book? Seeing as how that was a MUCH bigger tip. My friend and I continued looking through the window and saw the server and the host talking around our table. This place is evil. And RACIST. They did not deserve a tip and they DAMN SURE DESERVE NO BLACK PERSON'S MONEY! Or anyone's money who ISN'T RACIST for that matter! I felt so strongly about what happened that I am here at 3:49 am writing this review. I hope this helps someone and prevents them from receiving poor customer service. Also, the food was subpar at best. Never disappointed when eating here. They have their own parking lot on the side. At times it does get crowded, but wait if any is minimal. It has what you want in a NJ diner, but they do it slightly better than the average diner - food is prepared well, large portions, good selection, welcoming service and open 24 hours a day. After pointing it out to the waitress and asking them to take it back, she came back and told me she would cut me a slice of the "fresh one". The servers are great, they really are. They are friendly, willing to make substitutions, ask the kitchen with any questions you may have. However, the food is pretty standard, mediocre fare. What was annoying was that the restaurant was pretty darned empty, and it still took forever for the food to come out of the kitchen. My garden salad had a whole lettuce stem in it (yes, the thick part that connects the leaves together), so it's not a salad comprised of Romain lettuce leaves, it's a salad comprised of Romain, edible and inedible. My Western omelet looked pretty darned good when it came out, but there were pieces of egg shell in it (I found out the morning after, when I was enjoying my leftovers). Completely made the remainder inedible, and ruined my appetite as well. The buffalo chicken sandwich was huge, but uninspired. This is Just Another Diner. It enjoys a good location in the center of town, it has plenty of parking, and it's pretty clean -- in fact, it looks new. The staff are friendly and got the orders right. That's the good news. The bad news, though, is that they didn't ask or offer toast choices, I had to pester the waitress for more coffee, for the water we ordered, for napkins that a table of three adults and four children would need... and I hate to pester wait staff, I really do. It's a tough job, largely thankless, but the deal is this: I never see the bottom of my coffee mug, napkins and water should flow freely, and don't fuck with my weekend breakfast. I get to eat one breakfast a week with my life's hectic schedule, so the bar is set high and many fail. This diner failed. Having vented, the food was good, a little pricey for the Eggs Benedict, but I liked the a la carte omelet options. Didn't like the 4 ounce "large" grapefruit juice, either: four ounces of anything other than cocaine should never be considered "large". Good reliable food. Just about the only place open last night during the blizzard. Last night hubby had bagels and lox with cream cheese, he said it was very good. I got a patty melt and it was excellent. cooked rare just the way I Iike it with lots of cheese and onions and nicely grilled rye bread. This morning hubby had a goat cheese omelet with spinach, tomatoes, onions and home fries. He liked it very much. I got the cheese blintzes with warm blueberry compote and sour cream. Yummy delicious comfort food. The service here is very good. We are always greeted warmly and the servers are always attentive and helpful. And the diner is open 24/7. Can't beat that. read more
