I always pass by this diner when I go to Shop Rite and have been meaning to check it out. My family and I (5 adults + 1 baby) came by on a Saturday at 8:30 in the morning. There were only a few other diners at the time but I'm sure it gets packed later on, as I'm sure everyone wants to sleep in on the weekends. I had the pastrami sandwich and upgraded to disco fries. It wasn't bad overall. Of course, it's not going to be the best pastrami sandwich, but it'll do in a pinch. I'd probably come back and check out some other menu items. I don't often go to diners - but this one was great. Fun interior decor with Elvis Presley pictures. You felt like you got transported back in time! The menu was large and had a little of everything. I ordered pineapple pancakes (never had before) and was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed them. They were big and very filling. I ended up taking some home. 6/22/24 Friends from out of town came for a visit and they chose a hotel near the American Dream. We chose this diner as it was between us and their hotel. The decorations are so fun to look at! Terrific breakfast/lunch spot! Although they don't have the extensive menu of the typical NJ diner, there are plenty of choices and all are executed to perfection. Now they are staying open to serve dinner until 9! So excited as so many great places like this no longer exist! Stopped in for dinner tonight. The joint was jumping which we were happy to see. Specials looked great! We had had a long day at the lake so we're glad to just have someone else cook for us. My daughter had spaghetti from the kids menu. I had The Marilyn Monroe Sandwich which was a delicious hearty chicken parm sandwich with fries and coleslaw. I loved that the chicken was thin and crispy and the marinara didn't drown the sandwich! My kids and I went to check out the Wallington Diner for lunch on a hot Friday afternoon. I've been wanting to check out this place since they opened. I knew they had a fun 50's theme inside and they didn't disappoint. The bright colors, old timey bar with barstools, the jukebox, the cool mural on the back wall, and the signs make it so much fun to eat inside and just check everything out. My kids ordered off the kid menu (obviously). My daughter got the mozzarella sticks and my son ordered the hotdog and fries. I ordered the Vermont Omelette made with egg whites and with a side of tater tots and wheat toast. Our food came out pretty quickly and we all dug right in. My daughter enjoyed her mozzarella sticks a lot. My son was unfortunately not a fan of the hotdog but ate all the fries. I didn't really think the hotdog was that appealing either so I don't blame him. I did enjoy my meal though. The Vermont omelette had apples, sausage, and cheddar cheese in it and it was a pretty delicious meal. The omelette was pretty big and I couldn't finish the whole thing. The tater tots were good and my kids so kindly took some from me so I didn't eat them all. Our waitress was very friendly. At the end of our meal she brought our check and my daughter reminded me that the kids meals come with a jello or chocolate pudding. I waved down our waitress to ask for a jello for my daughter - they only had raspberry flavor but she liked it. I paid up front and when we were leaving my kids were handed a lollipop each and they were so very happy about that. Overall I had a good meal at the Wallington Diner. I ordered the Greek omelette, and it was absolutely delicious--perfectly cooked eggs packed with fresh spinach, tangy feta, and just the right amount of seasoning. It was hearty and satisfying without feeling too heavy. The home fries on the side were crisp and well-seasoned too. What really stood out, though, was the service. Everyone was genuinely friendly and attentive, from the moment we walked in until the end of the meal. You can tell they care about their customers. Whats the best aspect of a diner? You might say looks or service, but it's food. And the food here was good. Let's start with the salad, it was great for a diner. Fresh and simple, the meat lovers breakfast was good especially the potato's. The chicken tenders were nothing special. And finally the Ruben was a bit deconstructed but a lot better than i thought it was going to be. Oh yea and the coffee was bottom less for 3$ and not half bad, always a good sign. The food dod take a bit of time to make so that was a drawback. The servers were nice and helpful. Plus the bathroom was clean and that is a nice touch. The inside had a classic diner look to it. Counter with the red chairs, old TV show playing, bunch of those Old signs and checker floors. All in all a good visit to make. read more

I was a bit conflicted on how to rate this-- "OK" or "Good." Just as I'm sometimes hesitant about rating a restaurant "5 stars" after only 1 visit, I'm vacillating on how to rate Wallington Diner after 1 visit. Not that it was at all bad, or great. I enjoyed what I had well enough. My birth mother was less positive, describing it as "just ok." If she were writing the review, I guess it would be "3 stars." But I liked the place well enough to think that 4 stars would be a fairer evaluation. Last week, I was helping her with her laundry, as I do about once a month, and she treated me to lunch, as she usually does on laundry day. She suggested Wallington Diner and, given she was picking up the tab, I didn't give her any argument. This used to be Flapjax, where we ate once or twice a few years ago, and I liked it, giving it (if I remember right) a positive review on Yelp. Sadly, Flapjax didn't succeed. There may have been another restaurant that took its place and also failed, although I may be wrong about that. The Mexican restaurant next door (which I also reviewed positively) seems to be thriving, so maybe the old Flapjax location is cursed. Hopefully not. This is not a 24-hour diner; they serve breakfast and lunch and close promptly at 3pm. So...in fairness to them...we were cutting it close when we arrived for a late lunch. There was ample parking...which might be a bad sign...and we were ushered to a booth. There was an older couple sitting in an adjacent booth, talking mournfully about the banishment of Tucker Carlson from Fox (thankfully, my birth mother, much more of a social butterfly than I'll ever be, didn't try to interject herself into their conversation, as she's sometimes been known to do; after all, if someone is "mourning" the banishment of Fox's premier racist reactionary propagandist...and the only other guy besides Ted Bundy who thinks a bow tie is fashionable...what sort of meaningful conversation can you actually have with them? "Yeah, speaking as a red-blooded male, he was right about that fetching green M&M. And Putin is a great guy in spite of killing massive numbers of innocent Ukranian men, women and children. Take it from Trump, if not Tucker..."). The inside layout of the restaurant seems pretty much the same, although they're going for a 50's style decorative motif (in keeping with that, I can understand why images of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Elvis adorn the wall, but not sure why Humphrey Bogart is up there...I associate him more with the 1940s, although "The Caine Mutiny" was 1954, so maybe I'm quibbling needlessly). It's reminiscent of the inside layout of the Oakland Diner in Oakland, NJ, which also has a 1950s era theme. Maybe what works in Oakland will work in Wallington. Service was polite and efficient. My birth mother ordered a Buffalo Chicken Salad. I ordered a Vermont Omelette, which contains apples, sausage and cheddar cheese as ingredients. I've never had this style of omelette before, but it was tasty and filling. The side order of fried potatoes (Home Fries?) was a plentiful portion, which satisfied the glutton in me, but was surprisingly bland. A bit of seasoning would have been in order, in my opinion. The lunch was topped off with another side of buttered toast, and a Coke. Outside of the blandness of the potatoes, I liked what I had, and didn't leave hungry. The bathroom presented something of a challenge. I wanted to wash my hands. Sometimes there's a sensor involved in restaurant bathrooms that I have trouble activating (as an aside, I watched the final episode "Under Pressure" for season 16 of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" and laughed out loud, because Dennis's increasingly stressful difficulties and bewilderment with "apps," automated customer service, modern technology, I-phones, keyless cars, etc., mirrors my own). A sensor wasn't the issue here. I pulled the handles forward in the old-fashioned way, and the water came streaming out. When I pushed the handles back to shut it off, the flow of water increased. Instead of waving my hands in the air, trying to locate the sensor, I was pushing the handles back and forth, trying to figure out how to bring a halt to the increasingly alarming proceedings. Finally, after maneuvering the handles into a "halfway" position, the rampaging gush simmered down to a trickle. The employees weren't pushy or heavy-handed about getting us to leave, but as 3pm approached, it was obvious they wanted us gone. We paid and left. As I've mentioned, my birth mother's reaction was "just ok." Mine was more positive, although my optimum hours for substantial dining are usually after 3pm, so I don't know how often I'll be able to avail myself of their offerings. Still, I'd be willing to try Wallington Diner again, and maybe sample their pancakes next time, or perhaps something else. I wish them success, and hope that the "Flapjax curse" I've mentioned is just a figment of my imagination. read more

Parking is good. Decorated very cute 50s style. I went after the New Year and...there was 1 waitress, 2 cooks. The kitchen is open to the front and you can see in. The problem is....the grease in the air is thick and overwhelming. When I left, I could smell the grease on my jacket, my clothes, in my hair. We had to leave the car windows open with the heat on to get past the grease smell. Don't know if this is a daily occurrence, but it seems it would be. They definitely need to do something about the air circulation and the grease/cooking exhaust. Place was not crowed. We were the only other table at the time, then another couple showed up. Didn't see much customer traffic, not even for take out. The food was just ok. Don't think we'd ever return. read more

Located on the site of the former Flapjax in Wallington, my partner and I came to this hot and new restaurant for brunch today. Upon arrival in the early afternoon, parking wasn't a problem in their private lot. Upon entering, with the sound of nostalgic music and the view of the open kitchen concept right behind the counter, we were greeted by the staff and whisked to a booth by the window. This casual, family-friendly establishment aims to evoke a 1950s throwback vibe with a jukebox, wall mural, and TVs screening 1950s reels. It is currently open right now until 3 p.m.Their comfort food menu consists of breakfast and all-day diner items such as platters, premium sandwiches, salads, burgers, and desserts, paying homage to past and present entertainers. We decided on the Mixed Fruit Waffle (piled high with fresh fruit and toasted coconut topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries, and banana) and Spyro Gyro (Sizzling ground lamb, tzazik, cucumber, tomato, and onions on a grilled pita) with a sizable side garden salad. The food was fresh and delicious at reasonably affordable prices. The interior was clean and nicely decorated, and the service was great. We can recommend this place. read more

You cannot find this anywhere now a days with everything being so business oriented and disgruntled employees who are overworked and underpaid. I ordered the Cobb salad with Ranch on the side. I asked to substitute the blue cheese for feta. They did not charge me anything extra for the substitution, and the salad was amazing. The chicken was perfect cut and thickness and cooked well, tons of feta and avocado. What you can't see in the picture is the bacon - it was plentiful and real strips cut into large bites. They gave me tons of ranch on the side and it was great quality dressing. I order salads everywhere and I am very picky, I was pleasantly surprised.
