The number is 201-991-1023 and you can visit them online at www.thestackna.com The Stack has been around at least 5 decades and they are always packed on the weekends for breakfast and lunch. The interior is dated, but that is their charm as they have both booths and tables and can accommodate at least 150 guests at any given time. The Stack is all about Pancakes and steak, but today I had the burger with fries, Cole slaw and a pickle along with an Iced Tea. The service is friendly, fast and professional. They do a great job of hiring great employees and they have an incredibly loyal following with plenty of competition such as The Colonial, Tick Tock and Arlington Diner. i like their extensive menu and will stop by more often when in New Jersey. Breakfast food should be easy to make and a delight to eat, and I appreciate the consistency across both of our visits. A true pancake house, they let you substitute home fries for pancakes and let me tell you, that is the right choice! Fluffy, buttery goodness. Eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries... nothing fancy, but all very easy to mess up. We enjoyed every bite. We're also looking forward to coming back for dinner, it is, after all, also a steakhouse! I had one of the lunch specials which was crispy chicken cutlet sandwich with fresh mozzarella, arugula & roasted red peppers & fries, with house made balsamic dressing on the side. I grew up in Kearny and this place was a staple. It literally is exactly the same since I was a kid, but it's deteriorated and a bit dirty. We grabbed dinner and the cream of turkey soup was typical diner soup (not a bad thing!), didn't love the turkey burger or the old roll it was served on but the fries with gravy were solid. Here we are. The fastest day off the week is here. It's Sunday and our new family Sunday routine is getting breakfast. Today's adventure brings us to "The Stack" officially Stack Pancake and Steak House. I call the order in and our orders usually aren't that simple since there's five of us and the woman says.... Offered me something to drink while I waited. As promised, two minutes later, our food was ready. That's right.... Five minutes was spot on. I ordered the Mexican omelette (jalapenos, cheddar, onions and side of salsa). I subbed French toast for the regular toast. My wife got the bacon and American cheese omelette. All three boys had Belgium waffles and sides for them consisted of an order of bacon, sausage and of course fries for PBIII (our youngest). Mexican omelette..... It was average. I've only been here one but barely remember it. It's basically a diner. Which obviously isn't a bad thing but you need to be mentally prepared for diner fare. French toast I was kind of let down with. I was actually excited about getting French toast but the feeling from the toast wasn't mutual. My wife said the bacon and cheese omelette was very bland. She opted with a side of pancakes and dismissed it as blase. I tried a piece of my son's Belgium waffle and that was pretty good. I'm thinking I should've got some bananas and strawberries and that would've been one hell of a waffle. The sausage was very good as well. Two good sized links and pretty tasty. Fries were basic fries. Bottom line is the service is excellent. Looking for a quick breakfast while staying locally? The Stack is a very good option. Reasonably priced and your basic breakfast fix. Now they have lunch and dinner, as well as steaks. I can't advise on that nor have I seen a review on their steak, so for now, stick with a nice waffle and a side of sausage. Overall reviews seemed good, so yeah, this seemed like a safe bet. Wrong. I have no idea what this gravy is, but it's filled with hard chunks of mystery meat. The whole thing tastes like nothing. A bite of the stuffing proved to be extremely sweet. Like sweeter than most desserts. The mashed potatoes were pretty decent. The green beans were unseasoned and dumped cold straight from a can. The cream of Turkey soup was just a congealed mess as if it was a condensed soup that wasn't thinned out. $30 for what is far worse than any dining hall version of a thanksgiving dinner. read more

Stopped by for breakfast on New Years Day, we've never been here before but I'm always on the lookout for new places to try so thanks to YELP we ended up here. It was four of us and we waited about 10-15 minutes for a table. I was very impressed with the gentleman running the front because he didn't take names yet managed to remember who and how many people were in the party and seat accordingly... Now I would definitely need names and a list for that when there's a crowd like that. So I'm a die hard Rutherford Pancake House lover. I've actually never been here and have lived in the area forever. Even though friends have told me to try it I always made the trip to Rutherford. Today was the day! I'm eating all my words. The food was fantastic. Service was just very casual and quick, no complaints though, it's a very homey place. She got the job done. I ordered the Mexican omelette and it came with the best home fries ever. I usually ask for them well done and I didn't even have to, they were perfect. Buttery, toasted and delicious. The omelette was fresh, great amount of cheese and the salsa it came with was great too. I liked that they have an option to substitute 3 pancakes for the home fries and toast, for the days you want a little something sweet with your eggs. My friend was happy with her hungry mans special too. She brought her daughter along and they were super accommodating. Stack is a great place to come for breakfast or lunch. It feels a little like a ski lodge on the inside with all your favorite NJ diner specialties at really good prices. I drive past this place a lot and it is always packed on a weekend but we came on a Sunday around 2 and most of the morning rush had cleared out. We were seated right away and our waitress came right over to take our order. Our waitress was great had a lot of spunk, did what was right for the customer, and very attentive to our table. Food was also really good. I got a triple decker turkey club which comes with a large serving of fries. My bf got the steak eggs and pancakes. All the food tasted fresh and came out pretty quick. So this is my new jam - a straight-forward diner serving your classics and some of the best pancakes in the area. Plus, their prices are almost half of what I'd pay at other nearby diners. What's also cool about Stack is the look of the place - old-school, with dark wood ceiling beams, and other classic diner/steakhouse features. There are also booths in the back right of the diner, where you get a nice view of a small outdoor patio and the Passaic River. Now onto the meat of this review - the food. So far, I have not been disappointed. I'm a fan of their tuna melt, BLT, and breakfasts (the egg dishes and of course the various pancakes). My husband loves the spinach pie, which comes with a small salad, and the eggplant part sandwich (a.k.a. "the Italiano"). He and I always seem to get the same waitress, who is awesome, friendly, and remembers us. Then again, we've gone back to Stack enough times where we are recognizable at this point.
