There's a lot of positive hype surrounding Slap Burger. So much so that I was concerned that it couldn't possibly live up to it. I am happy to say that it did in spades. The burgers are spectacular. Far and away the best "smash" type burgers I have ever had. High quality beef smashed to perfection with just the right amount of caramelization and char. Moist and incredibly flavorful. Served with meted American cheese pickles on a perfectly toasted bun. I chose to go with mac and cheese for my side and it was excellent. Tasted home made. I plan to try the fries next time as they look pretty good as well. The service was on point. I waited about 10 minutes for the prep and it was worth the small wait. The dining area appears to have been inspired by Five Guys. Red, white and black. Almost identical. The prices are very fair. I will definitely be adding Slap Burger into my regular rotation. read more

I ordered banana pudding. It is too small to be priced at $9 and it has the strangest taste. It's not sweet at all, almost like they skipped adding sugar. It left my mouth weirdly dry, probably because it doesn't have any pudding, its 95% unsweet whipped cream, maybe 2-3 cookies, and about 3-4 slices of banana. That was strange indeed. This spot was getting a lot of hype on Instagram, so I came with some people from work to grab lunch. I got the double slap with onions 2 cheeses, and slap sauce. The burger patties themselves were overcooked and dry, the massive amount of cheese and sauce added some flavor to the sandwich, but it was still pretty average. My family of 4 dined in on New Year's Day. There is no parking lot, so we parked on the street. (There is a pharmacy across the street, so parking isnt really a concern.) We ordered the Slap N Tender combo, Mac N Cheese & the Triple Slap Burger with beef bacon. When we ordered, the place was empty, we were the only customers. The food was ready in about 15 minutes, not too bad. The burgers were hot, but the chicken tenders & fries were just warm. The food all tasted good, the tenders were flaky, as if they've been sitting out. Their lemonades are great and their cheese sauce is amazing with the fries. Sadly, the Mac n Cheese felt as if they just put the cheese sauce on overcooked pasta, kind of disappointing. However the interior of the joint is small and clean. There is no physical bathroom available in store, you have to request a key, leave the restaurant & go into another building to access it. I feel the simplicity along with the upbeat vibes is what makes this place attractive to the eye, especially their name. The service was fast and efficient. The food came out relatively fast as well. The beef was juicy and flavorful, their slap sauce is delicious at $8.50 for a double is a bit pricey compared to comparable places but after you've had two you won't think to much about it anymore. ***3 1/2 stars*** The name definitely grabs your attention. I stumbled across a recent positive review of this establishment on Friday morning, and since it's less than 10 minutes from my home, decided to give it a shot for lunch. I'm not THAT familiar with this area but knew that this might as well have been Clifton; the border with Paterson is literally yards away, and this area in my experience is a little rundown but pretty safe compared to other neighborhoods. It's also fairly easy to get to off 46, though there are a few busy intersections that require some patience. I parked in the CVS parking lot across the street; the crosswalk nearby IS a little rough - it hasn't been painted in ages and the walk/don't walk signal is impossible to see when it's sunny so I just crossed my fingers and relied on the actual traffic lights instead. I'm still here to write this review, so my strategy was successful but I'd be hyper vigilant crossing the street. It's a pretty small interior; I'm sure they rely heavily on take-out orders, but there were a few tables and also a countertop running along the wall to the left with stool seating. It's pretty much the same color/decorating scheme as a lot of burger-centric fast-food establishments, with a reliance on white/red (similar to Checkers). I was greeted warmly by the guy at the counter (everyone was very hospitable and pleasant to me throughout the experience) and only had to wait maybe 20 seconds to give my order. I went with a double plain burger, a side of fries and banana pudding. The burger is very solid for the genre - it's similar to a Smashburger product though not QUITE as good as that. I thought the edges were a little dry/charred, but I could see that being a positive for some people. Most of the burger was juicy and flavorful. I don't have a lot of experience with halal burgers so I don't know the appropriate comps for that but it was decent for fast-food, and maybe even slightly above average. The fries had some nice seasoning to them (the guy brought ketchup over but it wasn't needed) but some of them were too soggy for me - I'm more of a crispy fry connoisseur. The banana pudding was interesting - it's NOT a standard dessert option really anywhere, and the only place I've had a significant sample size of it is a literal banana pudding establishment in Jersey City (Baonanas, which is the gold standard for me). It was good, but had some areas for improvement. It was a little too light/mousse-y for me, if that makes sense - I personally prefer a banana pudding that's a bit denser. The taste of the actual pudding was excellent, and I really enjoyed the soft nilla wafer inclusion, which was interspersed throughout the cup. That's an area where I think they're superior to Baonanas, which uses crunchy nilla wafers, and only one small one on top, if memory serves. The actual bananas were the weak link. They were super tasteless and seemed to be in a specific, lower layer of the cup. I would have mixed them in more because I didn't even realize they were there at first. To their credit, the staff went out of their way to confirm that I wanted the pudding served with the rest of my meal, instead of being kept refrigerated for a few extra minutes - nice touch. The prices are fantastic too, which I rarely get to say in this day and age. The whole meal cost less than $20 and included a side and dessert. I was particularly blown away by the side of fries being $2 or $3 - and it was a decent portion to boot. I'm in Little Falls, so it's tough to justify a trip all the way over here when I have a slightly better product at Smashburger, but this IS definitely cheaper than that. It's still a recommend, and I would have zero issue stopping by again if I were in the neighborhood - the big selling point to me was the service, the great intangible. read more

There is limited seating with a counter on the left and about three tables on the right, so you might not be able to sit down and eat there. The fries portion is what surprised me the most. We came to try this last night after hearing a lot about it here and there. We both had the double burger to go. The place is very small so there isn't a lot of space inside to sit and eat. The burger was tasty, but the double isn't very big, so next time we will definitely order the triple. I would definitely recommend the triple if you're an average eater. They did a very good job on the fried. They were tasty and crisp. There is no parking lot. It's all street parking. We got parking a few doors down. I don't care for French fries much but I do at this place. The service was great and quick. It's a little cheaper if you pay cash. Found out about these guys on instagram. Burgers are greasy, messy and just okay. Smash burgers are 10 times better and Five Guys are 20 times better. Chicken sandwich was better but a Popeyes or Chick-Fil-A sandwich is a lot better. I got the double slap burger and it was delicious! The burger to bun ratio was perfect, as well as the amount of toppings. The burger was perfectly cooked and so juicy. To compliment it I got an order of cheese fries that also did not disappoint! The cheese was perfectly melted and it wasn't too much, so I got to enjoy the taste of the fries. The food was 10/10 especially for the prices. The service and staff was great! Everyone was friendly and very accommodating. This place became very popular quickly so there are long waits. Anywhere between 1-2 hours, I recommend placing a pick up order and even then I waited an hour but it's understandable seeing they were fulfilling hundreds of orders. It was definitely worth it and I would wait again to eat here. It is a small and quant joint but it has a retro vibe going for it. I've never need as speechless after eating something this good in a long time. as you find yourself walking to the location, the smell that permeates, the environment has a slight smell of seaside heights in the summer with all the food grilling all over the place. The place is small, maybe six tables and some stools. The gentleman behind the counter are extremely nice. Give them your order and wait a little bit longer than you have to but the place is extremely busy, I wonder why. If you ever had a beef or lamb Shawarma you will recognize the flavor of the meat which is not overwhelming it is just lightly seasoned the meat literally melts in your mouth. Heads up, the burgers aren't massive they're not big like other chains.. they are just the right size if you eat one more, your bellies gonna tell you that you're a jerk. Ive heard this hole-in-the-wall joint is a halal clone of in-n-out. Like in-n-out, the place was packed late at night, with an entire row of cars double parking outside. There was inadequate amount of seating and the was little consistency with the wait times for food. I ordered a triple, which I found to be way too greasy, but it tasted decent. I was surprised they didn't give you condiments like onions, lettuce or tomato. By default they give you only a pickle and cheese, but who wants only that? The meat didn't have that great of a flavor and it made me feel very bloated afterwards. I also ordered the loaded beef fries and cheese which I think was their take on In-n-out's animal style fries. I found it infinitely less enjoyable simply because it was just two greasy burger patties over fries with sauce, nothing more. This place wasn't my cup of tea, wouldn't come back to be honest. The concept has potential but the execution is crude and uncreative. However if you want that greasy, halal burger, this might be one of the few solid options for you in Northern New Jersey. read more
