Meat Aryes. It's like a meat pancake.

I don't know how I found out about Reem, but someone said "there's a Syrian place" and I immediately bookmarked a cuisine I haven't had yet. (Not that it's that different from Lebanese, Palestinian, Iraqi... but those are other countries, not Syria!) Today brought me into Bergen County, and so Reem was my mandatory stop on the way home. It's in one of the Middle Eastern neighborhoods growing in Paterson - this one more toward the south (just off I-80 Exit 58 / Madison Avenue), instead of the large contingency west of downtown. Anyway, I digress. This is a small clean place with tables. They'll bring you food, but you order at the counter, or you can do "to go". Not a terribly long wait, but they're preparing food as you order (as any place should). You can see in the photos what I went with. The Aryes was my instinct on what I'd like. Even though they said it was similar to the sandwich, I pushed back, and was rewarded with a flat, crispy pancake, full of meat, sliced into pieces. I dipped that into the garlicky sauce you see with the shawarma and that was a most worthy appetizer. I'll say, though, it could have used some dipping sauce of its own - other places will give you a little container like that. And so when the sandwich came out, I wasn't surprised to find the same thing - a little bland on the flavor. I even asked for spice, I heard them say "put spice in the sandwich", and yet - I could see the orange color from the sauce - I tasted nothing spicy. Absorbed by the other ingredients, oh well. But not the depth of flavor I have come to associate with Middle Eastern cuisine, the meat tasted like just meat. Verdict: It's a nice place, good value, friendly, clean, all good things. But my heart stays with places closer to home, like Carmel Haifa and Al-Aqsa, where the flavor earns the 5th star.

    Chicken Shawarma Combo

This restaurant was profiled as the best shawarma in nj. While it's pretty good, I don't know if I totally agree. Nevertheless, I'm glad it's here! I'm very happy to have multiple shawarma places in the area. I would recommend the chicken shawarma. Get pickles in the sandwich if you can. I would recommend the combo but that's just me. The fries are pretty good though. I thought the prices were reasonable but the service did take some time. They have toum, the garlic sauce which is a must for me. Overall I would come back.

    hair in food

My husband and I were really anticipating this place because of all the great reviews but we were extremely disappointed. We waited for over 40 minutes for 2 chicken shawarma platters, a shawarma sandwich and the craziest part...our baby's chicken nuggets took THE LONGEST to cook and came out last. Just when we took a look at our food, it looked mediocre and our fries were cold. We are a huge fan of middle eastern food but this wasn't it at all. The chicken shawarma was super dry in the platters and the rice wasn't great either. We waited all that to eat and left within less than 10 minutes after getting our food and barely finished any of it. But to top it all off... since it's a waste to throw away all this food, I heated it up to finish it at home and found hair in my food and had to pull it out of my mouth! ughhh!!! never again...

One of the best middle eastern food spots in north jersey, it's delicious and great portions!! The food is amazing!!

The shawarma is decent, but there's an issue with billing. They tend to overcharge and serve the more expensive dishes, even if you've ordered something else

There is outdoor and indoor dining but since it was blazing hot out I opted to stay inside in the cool AC. Came for brunch on a Sunday so had to try their sangria. It was really refreshing and perfect for a warm day. For entrees, we ordered the short rib hash, chicken and waffles, and the steak and eggs. I had a little of each, but my favorite was the short rib hash. Great flavor and the sauce was fantastic. The steak had a perfect cook on it, and the fried chicken was crispy and flavorful as well. The server was friendly and extremely attentive. He recommended a good dessert which we ended up splitting. When in doubt go with the chocolate brownie Esther vanilla ice cream !

We didn't have a reservation, but they were still able to seat us in the dining room as long as we could wrap up before 1:30, which we appreciated. I wasn't super hungry so we shared the crispy cauliflower and lamb ribs from the appetizer menu. The crispy cauliflower was excellent -- hot, actually crispy, and not drowning in sauce which I really appreciated. The lamb ribs came over labneh (a yogurt base) and the first plate arrived with the lamb cold. I asked our waitress if that was intentional and she said only the labneh should be cold. They immediately replaced it with a fresh order and handled it really well, which I appreciated. Great service recovery and overall a really enjoyable brunch spot with a lively atmosphere.
