My love for Persian food developed while visiting the West Coast. It's been hard to find many spots in the Northeast that serve Persian food that's even comparable to what you get in the West Coast. My friend and I found this spot nearby in North Jersey, and we had to give it a try. We stoped in on a Friday evening to a fairly busy restaurant. The owner acknowledged and greeted us immediately. The dining style is pretty casual where customers can sit at any open table. We were very glad to find Tahdig on the menu, since my friend had been wanting to try it for a while. The owner took our appetizer and entree orders promptly after bringing over some fresh bread. He was the only employee waiting all of the tables, and he did managed to provide excellent service. Our Tahdig came out first, topped with our choice of Gheimeh (beef and split pea stewed in tomato sauce). This my first time trying stew on top of Tahdig, and I was surprised at how well it complemented the dish. The crispy rice was cooked to perfection as well; the Tahdig far exceeded our expectations. The entrees came out shortly after the appetizer. My friend and I both ordered the Kabob Soltani, which comes with one skewer of Beef Kabob and one of Koobideh. Every component of the meal was perfect. The meat was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The Saffron Basmati came very close to what I've had on the West Coast. Even the salad veggies were perfectly fresh and crispy. We had an exceptional dining experience with excellent food quality and great service. Even though Kabob On The Cliff is quite a drive for both me and my friend, we'll definitely be back soon. read more

If it's located on Park Ave you know there's going to be issues with parking and pricing. (Am I the only one that always seems to find the parking meter that isn't working correctly?!) Crankiness aside... the fam decided to step outside of our comfort zone and try Persian food for the very first time. The restaurant - looks great inside (I've passed this place countless times over the years and don't think I even peeked inside). The gal behind the counter - could not be any nicer. The food - delicious, packed with flavor. My kids were baffled how proteins they're used to eating (beef, chicken) could taste so differently thanks to unique spices and whatnot. The meal came to about $20 per person (no drinks, just the entrée) and while the 'Kabob Koobideh' was a generous portion, the falafel sandwich (for $15) is wildly overpriced (it's about $10 from Greek Town right across the street, never mind about $8 from Mamoun's just about two minutes away over on Rt. 17N). Was here on a pretty early Saturday night for a quick dinner. There was one person helping the whole place, which wasn't packed, but seemed like a lot of work for only one person. We were seated for about 15 mins before she came over to bring us waters and then had to wait a little bit more before she took our orders. Our waitress was friendly and sweet and really couldn't say anything terrible even with the wait. She was definitely doing her best and she was great. My food was delicious. Loved the rice (added me some Sumac on top) and the shrimp was delicious. I loved the salad that it came with but a little too much onion for my taste, but overall really good. My husband housed his food so needless to say- he enjoyed it. I don't know that I'd come back here to sit down and eat, probably order take out if I was in the area again and craving this! Complimentary bread (warm, flakey and must be generously topped with butter for optimum enjoyment + also add more than a dash of sumac that's on the table because everything tastes better with sumac). We got a hot eggplant dish tgat was served with really good fresh bread.. this dish was so delicious and comforting.. we had taken wine with us and enjoyed this dish, for main course i got chicken sultana .. the kebabs here are one of the best, soft and juicy.. they serve it with special irani rice which had small berries in it with some saffron flavored rice as well. .. loved the food and hospitality .. baklava was good too! We went outside the box on this one and tried this small establishment in the heart of busy Rutherford. Going in, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm up for anything but I was probably more concerned with my wife's experience being that she not as open to new types of foods. Parking can be a little rough. We began with a few appetizers as I need to get the full experience. We started with the falafel, hummus and pickles. The falafel didn't grab me but didn't deter me. It was just ok. The hummus was great. I absolutely loved it. The pickles were good too. Not sure if this is a Persian specialty, but I love pickles so had to get an order. I got the kabob combo for one which came with chicken, Lamb and kabob koobideh (which yes, I had to Google to see what it was). This combo was more then enough for one person. I got the albalo polo rice which had sour cherries in it. Everything was excellent. My wife just got the chicken kabob with rice and she said it was very good. Even our youngest gave a piece of chicken a shot and he gave it a thumbs up. I'm so glad we went outside the box to try this little gem. Faraz and the chef(a) at Kabob provided us with an amazing experience and definitely one of the most unexpected meals I have had in a while. This California girl was happily surprised by the (relatively) new addition to Park Ave. True, they don't have enough people who order stews like gheimeh bademjan to keep one vegetarian and one regular batch on the stove - most of the folks who come here want something more familiar like kebabs. BUT I can stand up for the ash reshteh soup (lentils, vegetables, yogurt and noodles), which is extremely very delicious and a huge portion at a good price. I'm not sure what to say about the shirazi - for a to-go order it had no flavor at first, but then I realized it was undressed. They gave me several different dressing containers (one oil, one blackish, then some others), and I wasn't sure what I was supposed to put on it. It might be ok once it's dressed the way they want it. The baghali polo (rice with dill and fava beans) was also really yummy - a hefty portion for under $4. Usually this is our go to spot, lately they've been slacking but today hit the nail on the head and we will never return to this location again. A few weeks back my husband and I ate at this restaurant and he had the chicken kabob and I had the shrimp, mind you we go quite often and haven't had any major issues. My husbands chicken came out pink and squishy (raw) and my shrimp was raw. We did send our food back because it was completely inedible. The next few times we went the food was alright, not bad but not great, (maybe new cooks? Idk) BUT this time (our absolute last time), I ordered the shrimp kabob and my husband ordered the chicken kabob (like usual) and the shrimp was literally rock hard. Couldn't cut through it so really it was bad and had a really strong fishy smell. I said to the lady (the same lady who's there every weekend) that it wasn't right, overcooked and inedible and she had some sort of attitude talking about how it's well done. Now well done and burnt to the point it is inedible are two separate things, I didn't ask for well done, I just asked for it to be cooked and not raw. After some conversation back and forth she brought out a new order, which this time was still a little over cooked but it was edible, so I ate it and we asked for the check. The check came and she charged twice for the shrimp when the first order was not eaten. I mentioned to her and she got extremely nasty and said she didn't have time for this and it is what it is. So I asked to speak to the manager or the owner or who ever was there, and she got even nastier and said no they don't want to talk, and demanded us to just pay the bill. Now it could have gone one of two ways, we could have just walked out and not paid at all, or just sucked it up and paid like we ended up doing. Long story short, we didn't want to make a scene so we just paid the bill, which in my opinion is completely wrong on their end, the customer service was terrible, and the disrespect was totally unnecessary.
