Great food and staff. It's been our family's go to restaurant for years. Would highly recommend this place!

My friend and I stopped by here on a Friday evening after having dinner at one of the other restaurants on the block. The restaurant was mostly empty; only 2 tables were in use, and they were getting ready to leave. We were able to seat ourselves, and we really were craving some tea & sweets. The waiter greeted us after a few minutes, and we asked if they served tea. He responded with yes, as it was not on the menu. We asked for 2 teas and told him that we weren't sure which dessert we would like just yet. That's when everything suddenly changed, his face, attitude, and hospitality. He stared at us and asked us, "You're only here for tea and dessert?" We nodded, yes. And he responded with, "That's not going to work. We're not going to do that." My friend and I were so shocked that he just refused us service at an empty restaurant. He didn't even apologize or offer us tea to-go, but ushered us out. We left so embarrassed and humiliated; this never happened to us before. I love eating out and reviewing the restaurants. But I'll never come back to an establishment that doesn't respect its customers. read more

I wish we didn't dine in while they were finishing up construction on the other wing of the restaurant since the smell wasn't appetizing, or they put a drape up of some kind. However, the food was good and the owner was kind in explaining the different entrees. The falafels were delicious, as was the rice. The khoresh stew was also really good. It was my first time trying tahdig so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I just wish the portions were larger. read more

I had a pretty nice experience here despite the pricey check I paid haha. I ordered the beef and chicken kabob with rice, cucumber yogurt starter, lentil soup, and some bread. btw the bread they serve is seriously.... WOW we ordered another side of it because it was so good. I loved how fresh everything tasted except the beef kabob was a bit chewy and dry. The rice was also decent, it felt like it was left out though and not heated up enough. Im glad I tried a new spot and recommend it for anyone wanting to try new flavors. read more

Stay away from this place, I went with my son, no reservation, I walk by several times during the day and is always empty, I showed up for dinner and few empty tables, I sat down and owner or manager said to me that the table I was was had a reservation, and that we have to leave, meanwhile no sign of reservation was displayed, owner or manager was rude and disrespectful, pretty embarrassing moment I will never go back to that place again. read more

Ordered takeout lunch for a client. Decent food but you don't get much to eat other than rice! Now the rice is good, but I don't see much value for the money. Prices are way too high for what you get. Salmon "kabob" is a total ripoff! Let me preface this by saying the food is 5/5. When I'm starving I'll order the Soltani platter. The meats are full of flavor, never dry. The rice is delicious and the cherry on top is the roasted half tomato. When I'm not as hungry, I usually get the koobideh wrap. The white and hot sauces are perfect accompaniments. I took a star away because of the prices. I always thought costs would go down as you move away from the city, but I've noticed the exact opposite. Good stuff for a healthy and filling meal right here! I had a to go lunch special: chicken kebab that came with rice and a roasted tomato. The chicken and the rice were pretty good, and I'm always happy when there's a decent amount of non chewy chicken. However, the white and hot sauce are supposed to make a world of difference, and they don't. Both were very bland, and the hot sauce had no kick. Personally, this is what would stop me from coming back because both sauces should be adding another level of flavor. Staff was extremely friendly, and there was plenty of distanced seating for small or large groups. We found this place randomly on our way home. We thought it was a small place but when we walked in and noticed how nice it is and the lady was so nice so we decided to dine in. Food was great! Mediterranean was in the air tonight so we took our talents to Kabob On The Cliff in Ridgewood, NJ. Vibes in this establishment are average, takeout section on the right seating on the left. Seemed in need of a interior makeover, perhaps a paint job. Service on the other hand was excellent providing a triple check that everything was accounted for and A LOT of extra sauce. The food was above average only because of the hummus and the kashke bademjan. These spreads were hands down some of the best Ive had in the area and 5/5. On the otherhand, the entree was subpar. With the rice largely unseasoned and the beef tough the chicken saved the day providing one of the only seasoned flavors on the plate. The food was okay, i liked their chicken but it was not worth the money(3 starts) The service very nice and the server was amazing before we got our check. Me and my boyfriend were recommended this place by a friend. Went got a table right away, due to the place being empty. Perfect! This place is BYOB and we brought 4 beers with us, we asked the server if that okay and he said it was no problem at all. Perfect! We were eating and enjoyed our time. I had to use the restroom that's when everything went off the cliff. My boyfriend went to pay the bill at the front desk, paid in cash, received around 20$ all in 1's, went back to the table waiting for me, then the server comes up to the table harassing him and asking where is his tip. Mind you that we did not finish eating or packed the left overs, so obviously we were not leaving right away. He brought up how hard he works for 6$ an hour with a PhD at a restaurant and that he must tip him and that he's generous that he did not charge us for bringing alcohol or made the gratuity mandatory. As he's at the table i come back and I did not know any of this humiliation happened and i ask for a container to pack my food, my boyfriend is quiet and tells we have to go and i see him leave 2 dollars on the table. I was outraged because we both work in restaurants and that was odd for him, he tells me he'll explain later and i trusted the process bc the service was great even he said it before i left so there must of been something that ticked him off. As we walk out the restaurant the server FOLLOWED us, grabbed by arm, giving and holding onto me trying to talk and then give the money back and saying he has a PhD and that he doesn't deserve how my boyfriend treated him. My bf went instantly into protective mode and told the guy to f off. The guy kept yelling things at me while i went to the car. This place is now usually empty cause of covid, but take advantage. Plenty of space and the staff is very careful to give you comfortable space, and always wear masks. Staff is super friendly and helpful when you are undecided. If you can't make up your mind, the koobideh with one of the sweet rices is always a great choice. Today I tried something new, the tahdig, which was basically a meal in itself, so be prepared to share it with more than 2 people. Tried the chelo mahicheh, and wow the lamb melted off the bone like butter! We were told they cook it for 6 hrs to make it perfectly tender. Compared to the other items on the menu, the flavor is subtle. You also have to try the ice cream with saffron, and rose water, and pecans. The best beef kobeidah that I've ever had were from this place! Totally reminds me of another Persian restaurant I used to go to back in college in Irvine, CA. The portion is great and very filling and their sauces are fabulous! What I really liked was their rice. I know that rice can be overrated but you can tell that this rice is cooked with butter and saffron so it's so flavorful. I'm a rice person so I really appreciate good basmati rice. As I've come across this name in 3 towns : Cliffside Park , Rutherford and Ridgewood I was drawn to stopping at at least one of the locations . My wife wasn't too thrilled about trying something new that she is unfamiliar with palette-wise. Does saying that we ordered from here 3 x now let you know that I not only convinced my wife about ordering from here but she fell in love herself. The restaurant in Ridgewood is small and causal with a few tables if you want to eat there. When I picked up my food 50% of the tables were full. Within our orders we have ordered the Mast o khiyar which has great flavor and the bread to dip into it was warm and delish . Entrees have included the chicken kabobs , lamb kabobs , kabobs koobideh ( mixed lamb beef and onions ) and the lamb chops . Everything was delicious, flavorful, and tender . *Authentic Persian Review* Look, guys, Persian cooking is an art form. It's complex, it's nuanced, it's layered, it's the complete opposite of fast food, and takes a ton of preparation and long cooking times with the chef slaving over it (it's not a throw-it-in-the-slow-cooker-and-come-back-later type of cooking). Many Persian restaurants we've been to in New York have fallen short (some wayyy short) of representing Persian food properly. Flavor and freshness is key. Love is paramount. It's not a food easily replicated -- as I know many international cuisines are similar. The only restaurant in NY (city and LI) that we ever liked was Ravagh in Great Neck. But now that we're in NJ, I'm happy that we have Kabob on the Cliff to go to when we're having a craving (and LOVE that Caspian Market is nearby too!) Here's what we had: Fesenjan (cubed chicken breast slow cooked in a bath of pomegranate molasses and crushed walnuts) - the best I've had in a long time. It's SO HARD for restaurants to get this dish right. My best guess is because some people like it on the sweeter side and others don't. The sweet/sour balance is a main tenet of Persian cuisine and everyone has their own way of doing it and they love what reminds them of their mom's/grandmother's way of doing it. But this was *almost* spot on just how I like it. Would only say that I usually make it a bit thicker. Kabob kubideh - again, another hard to make dish. But the flavors were spot on and it was cooked perfectly. The accompanying rice was just right. Only thing we didn't like was the pita bread they put in with our order. It wasn't fresh-tasting and I know there are other brands out there that would be better than the one they use. I know it's not possible for everyone to make their own bread in-house but a little tweak here with this could go a long way with people who love to eat pita with their meal. We got takeout on a cold windy day because we're not yet comfortable dining indoors. I will say that after many many times of ordering Persian food from other places, nothing replicates eating kubideh when it's fresh and hot. We tried to eat at a nearby park but it was too cold, so we retreated to our car and ate there and it was absolutely the right decision. Come here, try new things, and eat it it fresh! This authentically perfumed Persian cuisine is presented in a smallish luncheonette style setting. I enjoyed it as an alternative to our periodic Turkish fix in Cliffside. The setting is casual and our party of 4 was seated right away. Despite the fact that only one server was caring for about 9 tables, our food arrived promptly and the server was very cordial and took the time to describe the food in great detail. It was encouraging to see so many ethnic Persians filing in for a late Sunday evening meal, adding to the authenticity of the experience. The meal was great! The Gheimeh Bademjan (beef and lentil stew) was nicely seasoned with clove, cardamom and cinnamon, and amped up with citrus from dried lime. Nice. The Fasenjan (pomegranate, chicken and walnut stew) had similar spicing but instead of lime, the citrus note comes from the pomegranate and the richness from the walnuts. Both dishes were served over saffron rice and read exotic and ate satisfying without being in the least bit greasy. The kabobs were tasty too -- we had the Soltani variation with chicken and lamb/beef combo. Very satisfying with hints of the same Persian spicing we tasted in the stews -- and perfectly grilled. I had mint tea with the meal, which was the perfect accompaniment. I have been meaning to try this place for some time, and I'm glad I didn't let my cynicism about Ridgewood dining keep us on the sidelines today. The server even threw in a gratis kabob to make up for an ordering mistake. Classy on their part and it translates to plenty of good will on mine. read more

Food was great. But the service wasn't. Firstly, our utensils were all on a plate, we had to set the table by ourselves. They didn't pick up our menus, we left them on the side and asked them to take them, and they never did. Glasses kept breaking, and there was a very loud and disturbing noise every 10 minutes that sounded like glasses clashing. They forgot two of the things we ordered. They didn't provide any glasses?? They gave us our drinks in cans and bottles. The waitress was very rude when we did ask for glasses and she acted like it was such a big chore. Whenever they brought our food, they just handed to us and left, we had to fix the whole table ourselves. read more

This place was great! I ordered the Dolmeh for an appetizer and Kabob Combo For One. The Dolmeh was probably the best cold version of grape leafs that I have had! My Kabob Combo For One comes with Half skewer of chicken, half skewer of beef or lamb with one skewer of Koobideh. I ordered mine with the half skewer of lamb. The chicken and lamb were both delicious and I was I had just ordered a full skewer of each as they were that great. I wasn't as much of a fan of the Koobideh. It was still good but not nearly as good as the two others. The food is plentiful and the staff was great. I would definitely stop in again. read more

Have had several dishes since the first time with others. I wish they made their own doogh but at least the brand they get is good. The odd Californian one with what seems to be seltzer water in there as well is frankly weird but it tastes good also. In terms of appetizers, the Ash reshteh (bean soup) is highly recommended. As good if not better than almost ever place in the city. The tahdiq (hardened rice) might look pricey but this plus another appetizer is way more than enough for dinner and alone is big enough for lunch. The fact that it comes with a stew topping makes it all worth it but I wish they still allowed it to be topped with Fessenjan (pomegranate/walnut stew.) Kashk-e baademjan (eggplant dip) is also excellent with a lot of walnuts. In terms of stews, both the Ghormeh Sabzi (stewed herbs with greens/meat/dried lime) and Gheimeh (the same but with peas/beans and a more red sauce) are excellent, probably the former being my favorite outside of the Fessenjan which I mentioned before. They should offer some vegetarian stews also but I understand why not. The kebabs are also good. I haven't had them as much as I prefer stews but I have tried them. The desserts and bread are fine, nothing amazing but quite solid. read more
