Hasbrouck Heights is FULL of good eats and family owned businesses with unique flair and rich history. Sofia's is absolutely among those quality restaurants that should be considered the pride and lifeblood of Hasbrouck Heights. Easily one of the nicest and most family oriented Greek spots I've been to in recent memory. I strongly encourage anyone in the area to give it a shot and bring a group to dine in. The only negative I'd say is that the price can be a little over the top for some of the meal items, however, given the ambiance, the service, the quality and the experiences I've had there, it's a fair price. But it was cook nicely. Skin crispy and juicy inside. I probably didn't have to squeeze more lemon on it. Grilled octopus was good. I wish the portion was bigger. Love the flavor. Upon entering for lunch after 4 years, Sofia's Mediterranean Grill, named after the owner's mom, I was greeted by the staff. I got a booth, immediately knowing how they get crowded. The inside evoked a cozy and warm vibe with Greek music playing throughout. Outdoor dining is available, weather permitting. Their menu features an array of traditional Mediterranean dishes, offering a variety of soups, appetizers, salads, sandwiches, meats from the grill, seafood cooked various ways, and entrees cooked from the oven. I decided on the Greek salad with grilled chicken. The food was authentic, fresh using the finest ingredients, delicious, and prepared simply, which is exactly what I was looking for. Absolutely loved this place. When we first got in the staff immediately sat us down and were sure to be quick and attentive. We order the pork gyro and the chicken platter. Back at this fine establishment. First time trying the skirt steak and after probably 100 visits, how did I miss this meal. It was spectacular, soft, and tasty. Service as always was great. I came here for lunch with a friend during a weekday and the restaurant was busy and had a great ambiance. The staff made us feel welcome and did not rush us. Was going to a recital with friends on Saturday and our group of seven decided to stop for an early dinner at Sofia's. I am so glad that we did. We ordered a variety of appetizers and meals (I tried the salmon croquette app and grilled pork chops) and all thoroughly enjoyed them. What a delightful surprise close by in Hasbrouck Hts. We love Mediterranean food, so we tried Sofia's and it was phenomenal. We've been there a few more times since. One item on the menu, lamb kokostinos, sautéed lamb in tomato sauce over orzo is so good that we've ordered it delivered to the house also. I can't even envision going to Sofia's without having some of it. Service is always very pleasant and efficient and when the weather permits there is outdoor seating. Absolutely delicious food - The Grilled Octopus, the dips, Fried Calamari, and Grilled Shrimp with Spinach over Rice (I am Gluten-Free so they changed it from orzo) & Gyros as well as crispy french fries. CONSISTENCY makes me wanting to keep coming back. The Wait Staff is accommodating despite being busy on Mother's Day. (only 2 Sundays a year they open up). I am extremely picky, especially service and cleanliness. Sophia's exceeded at both. We were warmly greeted by Tony and escorted to our table. We sat outside which was lovely. Our drinks arrived just as we finished reading the menu. We had fried calamari, which was excellent. It was a lightly coated, perfectly seasoned and fried just right. The dolmades are just as they should be. My entree was the lamb burger. It was cooked to the medium requested and the rest of the ingredients had a perfect balance so they played nicely together, none overpowering the other. My husband had the chicken gyro. He raved. And the fries... I've never had anything like before. Excellent! Finally, for dessert we had rice pudding which was, thankfully, not to sweet and a delicious recommended walnut cake. On our way out, we found Sophia to be sweet and gracious. Back to Tony. If you visit Sophia's, ask for Tony. Not only is he fastidious about his job but he is also very entertaining. The food was absolutely delicious, from the apps to the mains. We were advised to get the shrimp saganaki....literally the best decision ever. It was almost like a lasagna. It was one of the highlights of the dinner, we wanted more. The grilled octopus was good, but not the best I've had. For our main we ordered the mixed platter with a side of horiatiki and greek fries. The meats were tender and flavorful. We loved the fresh veggies and feta. Cute, small, casual restaraunt. The food is consistently good. This time I tried the Black Sea bass special that was served with Horta (which is similar to spinach). The appetizer eggplant dip is one of the best we've ever had. It is byob so remember to bring a bottle if you want to have some wine with dinner. Stopped in at around 7:45 on a Monday and they were surpisingly pretty busy at that time. Here is what we ordered: Keftedes (seasoned fried meatballs) - the flavor was good but it was a little dry. Lemon and the tzatziki sauce really helped Loukanikos (grilled Greek sausages) - I didn't love this. I think it was too much fennel (?). We also didn't realize this was included in the hot Pikilia. Could be that we didn't read and missed this but a reminder would have been nice, since we did order everything all at once Hot Pikilia (chicken, pork, gyro meat, bifteki, Greek sausage served with pita, tzatziki and rice pilaf) - this was served with fries and it was soo much food. We had enough for leftovers for both me and my husband the next day. The chicken was a bit dry. My favorite was the gyro.
