This is exactly what you want from Mediterranean food. Everything was delicious and prepared just right. I especially liked the grilled octopus. Service was solid. I came on a Tuesday night with two friends and we didn't need a reservation; we were seated right away.

Came for lunch and it was amazing as always. Great service and delicious Mediterranean food.

Back at this fine establishment. First time trying the skirt steak and after probably 100 visits, how did I miss this meal. It was spectacular, soft, and tasty. Service as always was great. Inside can be lo nous but they have outside seating also. It's a byob. Grab your favorite wine and a friend, enjoy a great meal.

Everything on point. Food, staff, vibe. Only wish they were closer to me so I can eat this stuff every day.

There were six Dolmades a moment before. Ha!

I am extremely picky, especially service and cleanliness. Sophia's exceeded at both. We were warmly greeted by Tony and escorted to our table. We sat outside which was lovely. Our drinks arrived just as we finished reading the menu. We had fried calamari, which was excellent. It was a lightly coated, perfectly seasoned and fried just right. The dolmades are just as they should be. My entree was the lamb burger. It was cooked to the medium requested and the rest of the ingredients had a perfect balance so they played nicely together, none overpowering the other. My husband had the chicken gyro. He raved. And the fries... I've never had anything like before. Excellent! Finally, for dessert we had rice pudding which was, thankfully, not to sweet and a delicious recommended walnut cake. On our way out, we found Sophia to be sweet and gracious. Back to Tony. If you visit Sophia's, ask for Tony. Not only is he fastidious about his job but he is also very entertaining. We were lucky to get him and will request him in future.

I was recommended by my colleagues to check out Sofia's. My partner and I were seated outside on a beautiful Saturday evening. We had a great experience here. The food was absolutely delicious, from the apps to the mains. We were advised to get the shrimp saganaki....literally the best decision ever. It was almost like a lasagna. It was one of the highlights of the dinner, we wanted more. The grilled octopus was good, but not the best I've had. For our main we ordered the mixed platter with a side of horiatiki and greek fries. The meats were tender and flavorful. We loved the fresh veggies and feta. The greek fries were crispy and delicious, perfect side. We had some food left to take home. Also nice BYOB addition to the restaurant. Parking is fairly easy on the street. We will be back! :)

Falafel! Delicious!

I've been wanting to dine here for quite some time and I finally had the chance to experience their delicious mouth watering food. So happy to have gone. The server was friendly and attentive, offered a few things on the menu along with their specials. Everything was PERFECT! I want more, want to hurry back and have the grilled calamari which was outstanding in flavor and texture. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. Nothing was overwhelming salty, Just perfect. Outdoor seating available and with umbrellas. I can't wait to go back.

Black Sea bass

Cute, small, casual restaraunt. The food is consistently good. This time I tried the Black Sea bass special that was served with Horta (which is similar to spinach). The appetizer eggplant dip is one of the best we've ever had. It is byob so remember to bring a bottle if you want to have some wine with dinner. It does get very busy , you can call before you go to check the wait time. In the summer they have outdoor seating too. Street parking can be a challenge.

Hummus

Soooo Wonderful! Food and service is amazing. Food is OUTSTANDING! (See below) Waiter was fantastic. He took our orders for a table of 5 with apps and dinners (and special requests) without writing anything down! He was friendly, warm and charming with a good sense of humor. Made for a very enjoyable evening. Only ding...Can get pretty loud in the restaurant. Can be hard to talk depending on the volume of the other customers. Apps: All were fantastic. Zucchini and eggplant chips. Thin, crispy with a fresh tzatziki sauce. Spanakopita. Fresh, right about of herbs with a flaky crust. Generous portion. Hummus. Best we've ever had. Super creamy and flavorful. Whiting fish: A special for dinner also served as an app. Perfectly cooked, crispy skin, tender fish and nicely seasoned. Fried Calamari. So tender and perfectly fried. Light and crisp! Dinners: All were fantastic except one. (see below) Rice side dish is absolutely delicous. Lamb Kokkinisto (Lamb stew): Incredibly delicous and craveable! Wonderful warm spices and the lamb is melt-in-your-mouth tender. Served over orzo. It's a must have. Chicken Skewer. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Lamb Skewer. Asked for it medium and it was cooked perfectly. Super tender and lean. Nicely spiced. Seared Tuna over salad. A special. Nicely seasoned and a good flavor. Asked for it medium rare, but it came medium-well. Still tasty. Swordfish. Only disappointment. This dish wasn't very good only because it was very overcooked. Seasoning very good but too dry to enjoy. They took it off our tab. Gracious of them. Desserts: Save room if you can! Baklava is moist and flakey. Lightest we have ever had. A very generous portion. SOO good. Chocolate lava cake. All you could ever hope for! SOO good. Galactoboureko. Hard to find this dessert because it has a short shelf life so this is a real treat. Custard wrapped in phyllo, SOO good

A special shout-out to Rola, the owner, who personally came out to check on us and make sure everything was going well, which really shows how much care goes into the experience. It's also BYOB, which is a nice bonus and makes the night even better. Definitely a spot worth visiting again for great Mediterranean food, a fun vibe, and an energetic atmosphere.

Service was great and wonderful, the young lady always checked up to make sure everything was great. Food was so tasty & had flavor to it! I had ordered octopus with hummus, it was very well cooked & I had to have pita on the side. I also ordered shish kebab filet mignon & as well very well cooked, not overcooked or dry at all. The rice was plain, which was okay for me. The onions definitely made up for it to combine it together. To top it off I also got fried calamari, it was a little bit chewy overall still had flavor to it. My go to drink was a mint lemonade that they make it into a slushie. I never had a mint lemonade so the taste to the drink was new to me but I loved it! You could bring your own liquor becusse they do not sell that. Overall amazing place for a quick lunch or dinner!

GYROS GALORE! Angelo's is a local restaurant that serves authentic Greek cuisine. It's located…read moreright near the railroad tracks on Maywood Ave. They have a small parking lot with limited spots. There's also street parking nearby. We came in for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It wasn't busy and we were able to seat ourselves wherever we wanted. The restaurant is small, but cozy, and has a local/family-owned feel to it. The interior is simple and charming; it almost feels like you're eating in someone's dining room. The menu has all of your traditional Greek favorites like gyros, souvlaki, lamb shank, fresh seafood, cold dips, moussaka, etc. It's BYOB! We ordered... *Complimentary pita bread and hummus - The pita was soft and fluffy. The hummus was creamy and rich. The combination of sun dried tomatoes, garlic, and chickpeas made the dip earthy, nutty, and tangy. *Kalamarakia $15.95 - I'm picky with calamari, but the chef got this right! The coating was light, crispy, and fried to a perfect golden brown color. It didn't mask the taste of the squid. The squid was tender (but not rubbery) with a subtle sweetness. The fresh lemon and marinara sauce added a tangy zest to the overall flavor. *Grilled Chicken Pita Sandwich with rice $14.95 *Gyro with fries $14.95 (All gyro sandwiches come with lettuce, tomato, onion, tzatziki sauce, and your choice of rice or fries). These were HUGE, filling, and packed with tons of protein! Both the grilled chicken and gyro meat were flavorful and marinated in a blend of herbs and spices. The tzatziki sauce was refreshing and citrusy. The pita bread was warm and soft. I could only finish half of mine and packed the rest to eat later. Our server was really friendly and attentive. The food came out within a reasonable amount of time. Don't sleep on Angelo's!

Day 1: Escape from NYC to Bear Mountain and Westchester County…read more Eatery 1 of 2 I had the good fortune to visit New York City and stay with a friend from grad school who lives on the Upper West Side. At times, I felt like I was imposing, but I was reassured that I wasn't. With having lodging in such a great location, I decided it would only be fair for me to take care of the meals and some sightseeing. As it happens, I got a bodacious deal on a rented econobox at La Guardia ... for a price that you would get in the sticks elsewhere. I've driven around the Tri-state area before and thought that this would facilitate seeing things beyond what the MTA pass allowed. In driving across the stately George Washington Bridge at around noon, I knew that we would be eating in New Jersey. One stop would be the village of Ridgefield Park, a place in which I've had immigrant relatives who bordered on sitcom material. The plan was to go to a popular cheesesteak place that I had bookmarked, but it was closed. I couldn't believe it. So I continued to drive down Main Street. I saw a Greek restaurant and something about it was familiar. It was that I had bookmarked it based on a Yelp friend's review. The eatery is named Sparta Taverna. It's an unassuming place inside a brick storefront. Once inside, it's comfortable and unpretentious. We sat about two-thirds of the way toward the back. The server introduced herself and was very accessible at all times. The menu at Sparta is quite vast. There are two pages, and then there is also a separate lunch menu with specials. At any rate, I ordered a chicken souvlaki platter that, in addition to the skewers, came with a Greek salad and the potatoes how I like them. My friend ordered a more traditional gyro as well as a small side salad. I really liked my meal, as all of its pieces tasted like they should have ... and I eat Greek food whenever the opportunity presents itself. What was on the platter vanished fairly quickly. My friend liked the gyro and the side salad, but then my friend isn't as emotive when it comes to giving a yay or nay to food. At the beginning of the meal, we were brought small pita triangles surrounding a dollop of hummus. I really appreciated that. The prices at Sparta are very fair. The variety offered is very good. Even though the desserts looked tempting, we skipped on them to move on with the day. As you move away from the restaurant and this small hamlet, you come to realize that you are very close to New York City, given that one is cautiously avoiding ramps that would put you on the tolled direction of the George Washington Bridge back to the city. We would be heading up the Palisades Parkway in New Jersey. On the way out, I stopped to take a few photos. I noticed that there were photos in which Guy Fieri gave Sparta Taverna his seal of approval. I almost didn't need to see that because I find Guy Fieri grating and that he veers toward being a big "cafone." But, then, I've ended up at eateries that have been on his show without knowing that in advance, so history is repeating itself. I could definitely eat here again and recommend it. That said, Sparta Taverna gets 4 high and solid stars.

We went for early lunch so no reservations needed. Entering inside, your in a white, large modern dining area with lots of seating, a separate private room and a full bar with bartender. Felt like we were transported to a place in Greece! The open kitchen has a front display of fresh produce and seafood for added ambiance. Very nice. And we were served by a very professional and attentive waiter named Christian. To help with the selection of my wine, he offered me some to try. I thought that was a great way for them to introduce some new choices to us. Next we chose off the lunch special menu. Great deal since this restaurant is listed as a pricey place, the lunch menu kept the bill more reasonable for us. I have to give compliments to the wait staff. There was never an empy water glass, or a finished plate left on the table, and lemon was given whenever needed. The bottom line is that everything we got was deliscious! But to narrow it down, try the Tuna Tar Tar, the Grilled Salmon and the Mango Sorbet. Heard there is a violin on some evenings, and on Thursdays evening there's dancing to the 80's and 90's music. They also have outdoors seating with and without a tent. And valet parking offered as well. Thank you Elia for having a well put together restaurant and menu. Im looking forward to Thursday evenings for the dancing.!
