    Small gyro platter
    Stephanie G.

I liked the hanging plane when you walk through the door, there is a lot of seating, the team efficiently puts together a platter. The parking lot can be crazy busy, but there is still a lot of parking. I got the small platter with gyro meat, and there was a good amount. The pita bread, rice and salad were nice as well. The white sauce was a lot though. I think they could err more on less and ask if people want more, and the squirt comes so quickly it's hard to say stop in time. It did tend to overwhelm everything else. But since there was no line when I went, the food was assembled very quickly, and the employees were friendly. It was a decent halal meal, and if the whole plaza was less of a zoo, I would come more. It's a tasty and filling meal option, but like a lot of places, the price is not as cheap as it used to be.

Located in a busy outdoor mall area. Lots of parking but usually pretty crowded. My fiancé and I shared a beef platter with bbq chicken and added jalapeños for a small fee. Added the white sauce and red sauce. I'm not a fan of halal guys. Something about the food lacks in taste for me. However service was quick and friendly. Food was served quickly and my hubby liked it. Decent portion.

A good fix if you're craving the popular halal platter! You can also opt for the tahini sauce which is more nutty and savory but would still recommend classic white sauce and hot sauce.

Quick service. Good options. Had a bowl with steak and bbq chicken. It was delicious. My fiancé didn't enjoy it but I thought it was good. Can eat in. Lots of parking.

Delivery was prompt and sauces ordered good. But ummm.....where's the beef? I thought it was going to be packed but guess not. Order the extra protein please!! Taste is good

Coming from a LONG TIME fan, The amount of food has been drastically reduced. Portion sizes are not where they have been before for a brand that claims to be "just like the NYC carts". You get less for the amount of $$. Less sauces, less meat, less rice, less of everything. Might have to start looking elsewhere for a halal spot that will actually give you value for the $

Metal wire in my platter, nasty.

Hate to give this review as I've been to this location a few times, service has always been friendly and food consistently decent. To say I was disappointed to find a piece of corroded wire in platter is an understatement. Nearly cracked a tooth on it, but could have been worse if had swallowed the thing.

Chicken & Beef Gyro Platter (Small)

Let me get straight to the point - This is NOT The Halal Guys I grew up knowing and loving as a young adult in NYC. When I was in my early 20s, I remember the days (or rather early mornings) I looked forward to eating a chicken or lamb with rice platter on the corner of 53rd St and 6th Ave on hot, sweaty Fridays/Saturdays after a night of debauchery at an NYC club or bar. My friends and I would order those one-of-a-kind platters (with their famous white sauce drizzled all over it) and just sit by the office building the carts were in front of and chow down with the many other alcohol casualties of the evening. Those days are long gone for me, but apparently so is the deliciousness of The Halal Guys at their storefronts. I came here to do some reminiscing and ordered a Chicken & Beef Gyro Platter and Chicken & Falafel Platter and, honestly, I didn't know what to make of it. It was dry, and lacked that fresh, street meat flavor that you only get when you order from an NYC street cart. The food just didn't feel right. It felt like it wasn't just cooked. For those who know nothing of the original street carts that The Halal Guys spurned out of, they might love this version of The Halal Guys, but, if you know your street meat, like I do, this feels like a knock off and does not do the original justice. Once again, it's a matter of experience with the original vs storefront. Come here if you want OK halal food. Go to NYC and hit up the carts if you want real street meat.

It's just not the same as the original 53rd and 6th cart but it will do in a pinch. We ordered for delivery via UberEats on a Sunday night. Hubby and I both got the beef gyro as we usually do because the chicken tends to be dry. Instead of chopped up meat like the cart, the gyro here is in slices. Not sure if that's good or bad but it still tasted good. I also like that you can add extra lettuce, tomatoes, and add chopped green pepper for no additional cost. They don't have this option at the cart. The veggies are much needed to help cut down some of the grease and heaviness. Each platter came out to about $15 without tip. Next time, I won't be a lazy bum and I'll do a pick up order instead, so that I don't need to pay the added fees for Uber.

Got 2 large platters, one of falafel and one of gyro. The portion was enormous, enough for 2 meals each and everything tasted good except the lettuce did not smell or taste right. It didn't look bad at all, it was just off so we dumped it.

Picked up a to-go order from here for my husband, who's a big gyro fan a couple weeks ago and he has been mentioning this place since. He's been overseas and has had gyros and falafels from Dubai before so he's a little bit of a snob. We've only been to one place in SC that's fairly close to what he's had so when he told me the fries, beef gyro, white and hot sauces were pretty good, I knew I had to try it myself. I got the chicken platter to go and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not a fan of ANY hot sauce, so I went without the packet but the white sauce was pretty great. I was so stuffed halfway through, that I didn't finish my meal but it still tasted great after heating it up. I threw the pita bread pieces in the toaster oven and they came out tasting amazing. The atmosphere is clean and everyone is friendly when you walk in. I'd definitely try the gyros next time!

Was craving some halal takeout since my favorite cart in the city has not been operating during covid. This was a pretty good substitute, though I do prefer Rafiqis. It's a few dollars more than the street carts in the city and charge extra for certain toppings and extra white sauce. There was a lot of food and sauce, plus I tried the babaganoush which was perfectly smoky and creamy. Great to have white sauce in packet form with takeout so it doesn't absorb into the meat and rice when you're in transit. I didn't try the hot sauce this time because last time I put too much and it ruined my platter - too hot and didn't like the taste. Nice that it comes with pita for no charge. This location does have a little outdoor seating and you can walk into the building to order or pickup pre-orders. I had tried calling to place my order but they just redirected me to the internet. Strangely they did not want to take orders over the phone.

Turkish cuisine is a unique combination of flavors, spices, and herbs developed over thousands of years, influenced by the Central Asian nomads and Arabic, Persian, Italian, French, and Eastern European cultures. While New York has some great Turkish food if one knows where to look, most of it leaves some room for improvement. Could Jersey be better? The town of Carlstadt has mainly residential private homes, with a spattering of condos and garden apartments. The main shopping area is all of about three blocks long on both sides of the street. Translated from the Turkish language, meaning sultan, we have come to this family-owned/family-run establishment located on Hackensack Street since 2006 for Saturday dinner. The reservation was easily made by Google Assistant. Upon entering this hidden gem called Hünkar Restaurant as first-timers, my partner, our friends, and I were greeted by the staff inside a cozy room, where ethnic pictures and decorations as well as the music all add to the vibe. A great view of the NYC skyline is visible from their enclosed back patio. Their menu features Mediterranean and Turkish cuisine with a modern twist and serves alcohol. As an appetizer, we decided on the Kibbeh (Icli Kofte), Calamari (Kalamar), and Cigarette Borek (Sigara Boregi). For our main meal, we opted for Chicken Saute (Taouk Sote), Shrimp Kebab, Lamb Shish Kebab (Kuzu Sis Kebab), and Chicken Shish Kebab (Tavuk Kebab). All Kebab meal accompanied by rice, char-grilled tomatoes, peppers, and a small salad. Warm, fluffy pida bread with a crisp crust started our meal. Every dish bursts with authentic flavor and is beautifully presented, from the fact that Turkish families from all over the area eat here. The staff is warm, welcoming, and very professional; our server was Akincan "John," the owners' son. The price was comparable to the area with the right portion. We can recommend this place.

Everything was delicious, but I'll leave the food writing to the Yelpers with more sophisticated palates than I. (Actually, I take that back--the fresh-baked pita was amazing and I would eat it with/for every meal if I could.) The real reason I wanted to leave a review the service, which went above and beyond. Let me start by saying that Al Basha takeout has a wonderfully efficient order-number-based system for managing the hundreds of orders they get on a daily basis. But if, say, the person who placed the order sent you to pick up the food with the wrong order number, you're going to struggle, and that's not the restaurant's fault. With that prelude and without getting into the details, we'll just say there was a user error issue with my order that led to a mix-up and a very late pick-up. Everyone from the Al Basha staff with whom I interacted could not have handled it any better. They were very apologetic, not because they did anything wrong (to be clear, they didn't), but because they were disappointed our meal hadn't gone well and wanted to fix that. The top priority of the manager with whom I dealt was making sure that my wife--it was Mothers' Day--got the best meal possible, and made sure to send me home with fresh bread and a treat for the moms. It was true hospitality, and greatly appreciated. TLDR version: great food, excellent service, out-of-this-world pita, and make darned sure you have the right order number.

The chicken kebab was dry and the shawarma was a bit too sour for my liking (not sure if they squeezed lemon on it or something). The kofta was okay but nothing spectacular. The filet mignon, was a major let down. My server didn't ask how we'd like it cooked, which is medium rare for my family. It came back well done. He said everyone usually prefers it to be well done, but I think that's a mistake that shouldn't be made and preference should always be asked, especially with steak. We asked for it to be swapped, and it still came back well done. When we let them know again, they brought it back a little on the rare side, which is fine for my family, but had it been another family, not so sure. I'm sure they have hundreds of orders for the char grilled meets, so I'm a little confused on why the technique has not already been established My favorite dish had to be the makanik - which is pan seared lamb sausages finished with sweet and tangy pomegranate molasses. I usually don't like lamb because of the gamey flavor but these sausages didn't have that. I didn't taste much of the pomegranate molasses. The arugula & beet salad would've been good if the pomegranate molasses vinaigrette was less sweet. The stuffed grape leaves were also a bit too sour. The lemon was just taking over the entire flavor profile. I didn't really taste the tomato or parsley. The falafel platter was good but nothing different than other falafels that I've had. The mint lemonade was so refreshing. Almost everyone in the restaurant had one and I understand why. The mint is not overpowering I had high expectations because I've seen this place on instagram but I'm afraid they were not met. Service was good, but the food definitely needs some work. There's valet parking, which i recommend because it's hard to find street parking

Wish we could have stayed for dessert, as they looked amazing, but some of us were in a rush. It's definitely on the higher end cost but worth the taste. Our visit ended with a hug and a piece of candy.
