If you've had the cart version - very likely during a lunchtime rush eagerly awaiting a fresh hot-off-the-grill platter while standing in line with salivating hunger, or stumbling around NYC streets late at night in a state of cheerful inebriation - you probably won't be able to retrieve the same satisfaction from the limbic recesses of your brain, as that particular alchemy of anticipation, irresistible street food scent, and a dash of city chaos is not something that can be bottled in a more domesticated experience. So no, the franchise concept into a fast-casual sit-in restaurant won't replicate the Halal Guys of your memory. But what you do get is a more dignified dining experience involving tables, chairs, and climate control. It's the food cart equivalent of realizing one actually appreciates concert venues with seats. Not saying the GA floor pit wasn't fun, but having crossed over into comfortable suburbanite territory, I've made peace with my lack of desire to stand in long lines or eat my food sitting on a curb. We came here after shopping at the Costco located in the same plaza, and ordered a chicken platter, beef gyro platter, waffle fries, and a mango citrus refresher. The meat was a touch cold and the protein portion leans modest, but it was non-greasy, and piled with the salad fixin's and pita bread, made for a balanced and filling meal. The waffle fries are amazing! Perfectly crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside, and a good size for the price. And the hot sauce is legitimately spicy (bless!), so get it on the side if you want to moderate the heat level I had no idea Halal Guys grew into a restaurant franchise from its humble street cart days and am glad to know about this place! read more

I entered with no line, no customers- just me to be served. The older man was rushing me and looked completely annoyed. The old man did not give me a chance to ask questions. One question: does the lamb contain beef contents? Food: terrible at best. The chicken lacked complete flavor and was very dry. The taste felt of poor quality. The pita was included is absolutely hard, cold, dry, and appears to be sitting out for a while. The old guy filled up the platter will large quantity of rice and very little protein (chicken). Platters ordered via delivery seem to come with a standard hot sauce packet and a generously sized packet of white sauce (extra sauces can be ordered for a nominal upcharge, but I didn't find I needed it). I liked the hanging plane when you walk through the door, there is a lot of seating, the team efficiently puts together a platter. The parking lot can be crazy busy, but there is still a lot of parking. I got the small platter with gyro meat, and there was a good amount. The pita bread, rice and salad were nice as well. The white sauce was a lot though. I think they could err more on less and ask if people want more, and the squirt comes so quickly it's hard to say stop in time. It did tend to overwhelm everything else. But since there was no line when I went, the food was assembled very quickly, and the employees were friendly. It was a decent halal meal, and if the whole plaza was less of a zoo, I would come more. Let me get straight to the point - This is NOT The Halal Guys I grew up knowing and loving as a young adult in NYC. When I was in my early 20s, I remember the days (or rather early mornings) I looked forward to eating a chicken or lamb with rice platter on the corner of 53rd St and 6th Ave on hot, sweaty Fridays/Saturdays after a night of debauchery at an NYC club or bar. My friends and I would order those one-of-a-kind platters (with their famous white sauce drizzled all over it) and just sit by the office building the carts were in front of and chow down with the many other alcohol casualties of the evening. Those days are long gone for me, but apparently so is the deliciousness of The Halal Guys at their storefronts. I came here to do some reminiscing and ordered a Chicken & Beef Gyro Platter and Chicken & Falafel Platter and, honestly, I didn't know what to make of it. It was dry, and lacked that fresh, street meat flavor that you only get when you order from an NYC street cart. The food just didn't feel right. It felt like it wasn't just cooked. For those who know nothing of the original street carts that The Halal Guys spurned out of, they might love this version of The Halal Guys, but, if you know your street meat, like I do, this feels like a knock off and does not do the original justice. Once again, it's a matter of experience with the original vs storefront. Come here if you want OK halal food. Go to NYC and hit up the carts if you want real street meat. read more

It's just not the same as the original 53rd and 6th cart but it will do in a pinch. We ordered for delivery via UberEats on a Sunday night. Hubby and I both got the beef gyro as we usually do because the chicken tends to be dry. Instead of chopped up meat like the cart, the gyro here is in slices. Not sure if that's good or bad but it still tasted good. I also like that you can add extra lettuce, tomatoes, and add chopped green pepper for no additional cost. They don't have this option at the cart. The veggies are much needed to help cut down some of the grease and heaviness. Each platter came out to about $15 without tip. Next time, I won't be a lazy bum and I'll do a pick up order instead, so that I don't need to pay the added fees for Uber. read more

Picked up a to-go order from here for my husband, who's a big gyro fan a couple weeks ago and he has been mentioning this place since. He's been overseas and has had gyros and falafels from Dubai before so he's a little bit of a snob. We've only been to one place in SC that's fairly close to what he's had so when he told me the fries, beef gyro, white and hot sauces were pretty good, I knew I had to try it myself. I got the chicken platter to go and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not a fan of ANY hot sauce, so I went without the packet but the white sauce was pretty great. I was so stuffed halfway through, that I didn't finish my meal but it still tasted great after heating it up. I threw the pita bread pieces in the toaster oven and they came out tasting amazing. Was craving some halal takeout since my favorite cart in the city has not been operating during covid. This was a pretty good substitute, though I do prefer Rafiqis. It's a few dollars more than the street carts in the city and charge extra for certain toppings and extra white sauce. There was a lot of food and sauce, plus I tried the babaganoush which was perfectly smoky and creamy. Great to have white sauce in packet form with takeout so it doesn't absorb into the meat and rice when you're in transit. I didn't try the hot sauce this time because last time I put too much and it ruined my platter - too hot and didn't like the taste. Nice that it comes with pita for no charge. This location does have a little outdoor seating and you can walk into the building to order or pickup pre-orders. I had tried calling to place my order but they just redirected me to the internet. I freaking love halal guys but this location and I have a love hate relationship. The parking lot being next to a bunch of other stores aka Walmart is always super packed and not an ideal stop to come to when looking for a quick lunch. I tried to order on the website and pick up but it stated to go orders would take 30 minutes as well as only come with a packet of sauce. I waited online inside and ordered a regular size combo platter. I asked for a lot of white sauce (crack) and red sauce and my man drenched my platter! Was super pleased with how normal he made it seem to ask for such an obscene amount of sauce. One thing that really irked me was I saw one employee behind the line touching the pita bread and warming them up on the meat without plastic gloves. I ordered a regular, Chicken platter from Halal guys. The individual behind the counter asked if I wanted any white sauce. Once I replied I did, he used too much of it. My food didn't need to be excessive with that much sauce. I know the restaurant is not the same as the original food cart on 53rd Street and sixth avenue. Good to know the store fronts have been around for the past few years. However, it upcharges more and the tastes are not quite the same. Service was friendly and followed a smooth pace. Food was cold and we dined in. Quality has really fallen off. The kicker for me leaving this one star review is how the cashier wouldn't honor the free dessert after 8pm deal. I ordered my food, but nobody mentioned that I could get a free dessert. I sat down and noticed an ad playing in the store of the deal so I walked back to ask for the dessert. In my humble opinion this is the best halal Guys I've been to in a long time. Granted, by the time we get there it's usually past 11 PM. And we don't have very high expectations at that time of the evening. At this time all the meat burners are off and you get whatever is in the trays. But the food has always been good, the people working there are supernice, and we're served with a smile. Been here twice and we were in and out in under 10mins. I've had Halal guys several times but it was my first time at this location. Staff seems pretty efficient and the line kept going pretty fast. I had the beef gyro platter. They always accommodate you, I always never get the rice so they add more of the salad and tomatoes. They always give you plenty of white sauce too, but I always do mine on the side.:-) One complaint was I got water and there was something black in my water, wasn't sure what it was.
