We started eatting, I thought I detected a slight onion aroma but it could be holdover from another order I thought. Then I peeled back the foil and sure enough, without moving any food, there was an onion. My daughter looked more closely at hers and yep, onions there too. I called, started to explain myself when the call was disconnected, I'm not saying they hung up on me. I called back, no answer. This place is in a popular plaza so parking may be harder at some times than others, but I enjoyed my gyro from here. They have a few different options, but I went with the lamb one. It was a meaty sandwich with lots of tiziki sauce and wrapped nicely so I could eat it without getting sauce everywhere. It came with some (not many) fries, but the sandwich was so filling that as a combo this worked well for a satisfying lunch. The place has a lot of seating but at lunch it was mostly to-go options. The food came quickly and tasted great. Would definitely come back to try one of their platters. read more

I know it's not the owner working right now, because he has always shown pride in his business. But who ever is operating the phones and running the counter is a negative force that should be dealt with. not only was he rude to my wife, disengaged from even interacting with anyone when she walked in, but also refused to even give her extras sauces she was asking for. The beef platter was just lazily tossed over the order of fries which usually come in a separate container, but he also hung up halfway through our phone order. I don't understand why the places people apparently don't want to be end up being everyone else's problem, but here we are. Stopped in to pick up some lunch on a Sunday 1:30. I didn't get good vibes because 1. There were no other customers there 2. It was an 80 degree day and the AC wasn't on, so who knows if the food handling is safe. Decided to go against my gut and order anyway, and the food was actually pretty good (albeit salty), and we didn't get food poisoning (YAY!) I had a lamb gyro (comes with fries), and my BF had the lamb platter. Both came with a considerable amount of meat. They also have different specials each day. On Sundays, it's $1 off platters/meals so make sure you ask about it before you pay or else they won't deduct it. Is this the best Halal food ever? No. Will it do the trick if you're craving it? Went in to my old (albeit brief) hometown of Secaucus last weekend and needed to pick something up for dinner that everyone in the house would like. It had been a LONG time since I explored there... So, I did a search for halal and Halal Boyz came up. When I saw they had gyros actually made with LAMB -- HAD to give them a try! There are a couple of places to get gyros in my not-too-far-away neighborhood, and they are both pretty good. Halal Guys in Teterboro is an expanding chain that originated as some GREAT NYC carts, but has since moved away from using lamb and is now strictly beef (no doubt because lamb is more expensive and a less popular meat)... Juicy Platters in Hackensack uses beef as well and seems to have been forgetting about its name; as the meat seems to be getting less and less juicy all the time. When the guy at Halal Boyz told me my 4 platters (with rice and salad) would take a couple of minutes, i knew he wasn't gonna go through the whole process of shaving the meat from the cone and browning it on the grill. No problem! (But I was hoping that the cooked meat wouldn't be dry...) DINNER WAS A HIT! The meat was juicy and very delicious, the rice was super tasty, and the salad was crisp and fresh. Overall -- I liked all three aspects of my platter better than the aforementioned two establishments and WILL return again! I had ordered food on their website's app and picked up. My partner and I had ordered a Lentil Soup, Gyro Platter and a Falafel Platter. No complaints about the platters, the salad was fresh, rice was a flavorful and tasted good, main proteins were also delicious. The lentil soup was a bit disappointing, I believe there could have been a bit more lentils in there. Kinda felt skimped out. My main concern is the prices, online is one price but when you pick up in store it actually comes out more expensive. By a few dollars but still this is an inconvenience. read more

Totally unprofessional - they come up on Seamless in my area (Weehawken) for delivery and now TWICE they canceled an order about 20-25 minutes after I put the order in. Was so excited to see Mix Platter open and to have something like the New York style cart food in Hudson County. So when I saw it finally open earlier this week, decided to try it out for lunch. - Food: They seem to have a lot of options for their platters, including fish in addition to the regular meats and Falafel. I went with the Falafel Platter which comes with Salad, Rice, Falafels (four) and one small piece of Pita Bread (~$7.50). They allow you to pour the white sauce and hot sauce yourself, so I essentially drowned my food in the white sauce. Unfortunately, the falafels were terrible -- they tasted very bad with an oily aftertaste. They were obviously not fresh, as I saw an employee take out the falafels from a huge frozen bag. The rice and salad weren't anything special and frankly pretty bland, but went well with the white sauce which was delicious! - Service: The service was ok, aside from an incident where I had to wait for a couple minutes to order food because a manager was yelling at one of the employees, which was a bit awkward. I really wanted to like this place as I observed construction and couldn't wait to try it. For starters, the service was ok. As we waited to place our order it seemed like there was a semi heated discussion taking place in front of us behind the counter between 2 employees. So for about a minute we stood there waiting for them to stop talking before they even took our order. At one point, they looked at us then continued with their discussion. The establishment appears to be super clean and bright so that's a plus. I ordered the falafel platter ($7.47 including tax) It came with 4 falafels, rice or fries, salad and pita. I chose fries instead of rice. Unfortunately the only good thing about this platter was the fries. The falafel was not good at all. It had a terrible after taste that turned me off from even finishing the first bite. I observed the cook pull the falafels from a bag to cook so my guess is that they are pre-made. They also forgot to include my pita. I honestly don't know if I'd come back as this is the first time that I've never been able to finish a meal because I didn't like the taste. Too bad nothing here is made fresh in house. Everything is frozen and pre made. I was actually very excited to have this place open up but after checking out their quality, I think I'll stick to the carts in Jersey City. The only thing they put on their flat top to cook was my pita. My chicken came out of a warming pan and it wasn't even hot when I bit into it. The white sauce comes out of a container and who knows how much calories and preservatives are in there. But that's about all that gave my gyro any flavor. I agree with other reviewers on their customer service. They talk way too much to themselves and don't pay attention to you, even when you're clearly standing there ready to order. I saw other people ordering platters to go and they were stingy on the amount. Are they not aware that Halal Guys pack their tins up to the top with food and only charge $7??? I saw the man put lettuce in this guy's container and then take some off. The lettuce that costs a dollar to buy that yields a crap ton of portions. Seriously?? And my tabbouli had sand in it! I wandered in here after a long day working nearby and I was so hungry....I am so glad I came here, the quality of the food was outstanding. It was fresh, well seasoned, rich but not greasy and the rice was superb. I ordered the gyro platter (a mixture of grilled beef, chicken, and lamb) on delicious, herbed basmati rice with very fresh and crisp salad and fresh pita, to which I added a little white and red sauce which cut through some of the richness. It was a big portion, enough to share for two. I also ordered some to go dessert: red velvet cake and baklava which were both pretty good. I was hoping for this place to be good but my first experience here wasn't. To begin with, the people weren't attentive. I was standing there waiting to order but the guy kept chatting with the customer in front of me long after he'd placed his order. The food is serviced quickly and tastes pretty good, the sauces are amazing, and they offer a good variety of food. There are times when they are super busy and it can take a while, but there is only two or three people manning the food so it makes it a little more difficult. Overall, its a good addition to a town that has few halal options and can give you a similar feeling as the Halal Guys without having to travel to NYC. read more

Not impressed! Turned off, actually! I ordered the chicken shish kebab platter. Took almost 20 minutes! I was so excited to try it but it was actually bland and taste less. The worst part about this place is it's absolutely filthy! Everywhere you look there is dirt and grease! The refrigerator for the bottled drinks was disgusting. The empty tables were unclean. These guys were awesome when I first stared coming here. Now they are just not cutting it. Last two times I come here they barely put any meat in my platter. It's literally all rice. I was pretty excited to see a platters spot open up, but was very disappointed after my first visit. For me one of the trademarks of platters/halal is having a full platter for a decent price. While the price was about the same as most of the other places, the portion seemed to be embarrassingly small. The platter barely seemed half full, and the taste was pretty poor. Also the credit card machine was broken when I went and the workers seemed to be more interested in having a conversation amongst themselves than fixing the machine for me and a few other customers. read more

Had a pathetic experience at this place, I ordered food to go and I was charged a credit card transaction fee on ~14$ order, without even mentioning it before charging it on my card. After that when I saw the receipt, I was told it can't be undone and I couldn't pay by cash. When I questioned that you can't charge me the fees without mentioning it before hand, I was pointed to a small board mentioning that they charge fees !! Was pleasantly suprised at the food selection upon walking into this place. They had anything from jerk chicken to gyros. The name is odd but the food is good and the portions are generous especially for lunch. Got the mixed meat gyro platter, which was, a mixed of gyro meat, chicken, and I think sausage with rice, lettuce, tomato, special sauce, etc. I recommend trying this place once. read more

I commend this establishment for being a front runner when it comes to offering halal, middle eastern food in Secaucus. They bring NY style platters to a much needed location. During the grand opening, there was lots of buzz - and that's a great thing. It seems they haven't totally lived up to the hype... not yet at least. With time and experience, I am sure this place will thrive. I personally thought the food was good, and could have been better. The gyro Platter portions could have been more generous. Service was exceptional though, and that is what justifies my 4 star review.
