Doner Rice Bowl
Anna L.

Located in the American Dream Mall, German Doner Kebab is a causal halal doner kebab eatery. There are plenty of seats. Food is good. I enjoyed the original doner kebab. The bread is nice and chewy. The rice bowl is a bit small and boring. There isn't much meat. Stick with the original for a satisfying bite.

Doner Gym Box with fries

It was early Today evening so fairly quiet at American Dream. We wanted a mix of meat and greens and decided to stop by here. Is a simple decorated place with menu and drawing with description of the meals. We were able to quickly get online and decided on two orders I'd the doner gym box. Wanted a little carbs, we added fries for additional 50 cents. One with beef and one with combo (chicken & beef). Once ordered we picked a table and wait for them to bring our food. It came with three sauces. The food came hot and the fries were crispy. It was a good balance of warmth and crisp from the salad. For me I felt I received more fries then salad sans so it was a little more greasy then anticipated. Next time I'll stick to just chicken doner, and order a side of fries instead. Overall the food was delicious and different from your typical mall food. We'll come back.

The food was great and pretty unique, their original is definitely the original for a reason. The waffle was so crispy. They gave so much sauces included as well. The service was Al's great. Very clean and spacious area. For $15 each was such a deal. The fries meal combo added the best mix of flavors too. definitely get the flaming fries flavor for a good pop of spice flavor!

We were at the American Dream mall and wanted to try something different. My husband suggested this place. It looked like a typical fast food place with some booth seating and bar stools along tall narrow tables. The name with kebab we had expected meat skewers but it was more like the meat was cooked on a vertical rotisserie and meat was shaved off of it. (Think shawarma) We ordered the Doner rice bowl and the Doner box with cheese. We were give a buzzer and when the food was ready a server walked over with our food and retrieved the buzzer. My husband's rice bowl was ok. He didn't hate it but it didn't wow him either. I liked my box but to be honest the meat I got (beef and chicken) were tasteless and needed the cheese sauce and jalapeños. The fries were good. There was one person walking around making sure everything was ok. He was very friendly and elevated the experience.

Since I was in AD on a weekday evening, decided to stop by Doner to get dinner to go. When I came to the store, it was empty, no customers. But all the sitting areas, tables were very clean. It looked nice. I went to the register to put my order. The lady seemed little annoyed, no greeting, no interaction. I ordered the Doner gym box. It was ready in about 5 minutes. The box came with lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes alongside Doner chicken kebab. The chicken was dry. It wasn't appealing.

I've been wanting to give this place a try since it opened however I have not wanted to go near this nightmare of a place. I did go when I had a day off to grab this for lunch unfortunately it took more than 15 minutes so you are forced to pay five dollars plus tax for parking I ordered the original kebab mixed with chicken and beef and was shocked at how large this sandwich was. The slices of meat were almost thinner than paper and super flavorful along with the amazing sauces it made for a fantastic meal without having to eat any sides. I would absolutely come back if I'm already there.

Beef empanada is overpriced ($4 for1) & tastes like a calzone... not in a good way. And the wrap reminds us of a Big Mac but value isn't bad. Would prefer a different bread though

delish! hot and fresh, we grabbed a quick bite here for lunch after seeing the aquarium. there was a short line for lunchtime so we had to wait to order, but our food came out quickly. the curry rice is to die for and i loved the crispy chicken bits in the chicken kebab. the bread on the original kebab is super tasty as well. we loved all of the dipping sauces (try them all). the beef was just okay, my husband liked it but i thought the chicken was way better. even tho i loved the sandwich, the rice bowl knocked it out of the park. especially at the end when you can mix all the crunchy lettuce, savory rice, chicken bits, and white sauce together! there are no highchairs available so parents may find it tricky to eat with little ones. the dining space inside isnt bad but my recommendation is get the food to go and eat it in the L2 food hall area. they sell honest juice boxes too which is very nice for kids. servers were super nice, overall a great food option at the mall!

Nestled away in the depths of the American Dream Mall is this unique restaurant. I was recommended to try it so I did. The meat on the spit looked great and the description of the doner box sounded great as well. I got the box with chicken, fries, cheese and jalapeños. I got it to go. The lady at the front seemed a little annoyed and forgot to add a fork and any sauces. I should have looked in the bag before heading out. I feel like the chicken was well spiced but a little dry. Also it was overpowered by the cheese sauce.

Omg!! I have no idea what I just ate... but it was freaking great!!! Had the original with beef. It had lettuce and tomatoes with a spicy garlic sauce on a waffle type bread. It was delicious. Highly recommend you give it a try!

The best doner kebab I've ever had. The egg rolls are amazing too. Just 10/10. The garlic sauce is so good I want to find a recipe. The atmosphere is annoying -- it's just an order-at-the-counter place in the crowded American Dream mall, but oh my god is the food good.

We absolutely LOVE their shepherd's salad and we even order the shepherd's salad when we host dinners and it's always devoured. Our usual order is the chicken kebob platter, gyro meat platter, and shepherd's salad. The chicken and gyro meats are accompanied by two types of rice, some salad, a grilled piece of tomato (yums), and a superrrrr spicy pepper (it's tasty, but be cautious! Take only a small bite to test first). We also get their falafel wrap, which is sooo good. I think they have the best falafel wrap. It's simple -- good falafels, hummus, lettuce. Just so good! This is one of our go to orders in the neighborhood when we don't want to do any cooking! We either order through delivery apps or we go there and our order pick up. The owner is always so pleasant. We haven't dined-in yet, but the restaurant itself is casual, spacious, clean, and presentable. Street parking is available.

For anyone with a peanut allergy they are peanut safe! All the meat is seasoned the same. I've been a frequent diner at other Chinese skewer locations including Chubby Skewers in NYC. The taste is the same but at other locations it feels more homey, as you cook the skewers yourself, which can be both good/bad. The price is also a bit more expensive than other skewer locations. But the good thing is that at this location, the meat is cooked for you. The grill is just a piece of metal with some candles underneath to keep the meat warm. Service was very prompt. I think overall it felt like a good solid place for a date. Nothing out of the ordinary. I had a satisfactory time.

Got there around 1PM and didn't expected that many people - it was very crowded, this was for a two person and the tables are really small. Think about the Laowu Shanghai Dumpling place in route one, the seats are that small. It wouldn't be a big issue if you don't order more than 2 actual dishes, though even then that became a bit wild. The skewers are okay, I prefer other places only because when the skewers came out, it was not that hot at all which was odd. The place is very hard at hearing, so let's go to the food, the prices for the skewers were on par with other places nearby, the actual dishes, however, seem a bit steep. I would say the value for price is pretty close, but the seating left me a bit reserved about coming back, maybe on another day where they're not as busy.

We ordered the Spicy Chicken Kebab, Chicken Kebab, Mantu, and Qabali Rice with Lamb Chop. All the dishes were tasty, and we really enjoyed the flavors. The only disappointing part was the timing. We arrived around 9:15 PM, and the restaurant was supposed to close at 10 PM. Unfortunately, we felt rushed to finish our food, so we couldn't relax and enjoy our dinner as much as we would have liked. Overall, the food was excellent, and I would definitely recommend trying it. I just wish we had been able to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed!

I had been to this Afghan restaurant once a good while ago, having gone there as part of a Yelp…read moreevent where I loved the food. More recently, I hosted a meal here with a bunch of others, and there were enough glaring issues that I can't recommend this place anymore, regardless of the excellent quality. The place is casual, and the staff had to be asked for silverware, extra cups for water, spoons for serving, and other items. To drink, someone had a $5 Doogh, and I ordered one too, but it never arrived, though at least it wasn't on the bill. They gave us a simple salad to munch on prior to the meal, which worked well with the yogurt dressing on the table. The bread on everyone else's table was missing from ours, which turned out to be the first difference in our meal compared to most other tables. For appetizers, we got a couple that were both $8 and had the same type of sauce. My preference of the two was the Mantu, or steamed dumplings stuffed with ground beef. The dish came with six large dumplings that were plump, with a nice thin dumpling skin. There was also the Aushak, filled with leeks and scallions. In comparison, they were smaller and a bit thicker, with a more refreshing filling. The sauces on both dishes consisted of a mix of garlic mint yogurt and a lamb/tomato-based sauce, and they went well, adding some tang. Of the mains, my preference was the $15 Chapli Kabob, or sizzling pan-fried ground beef patties mixed with fresh vegetables. In comparison to the Pakistani version, they were more delicately spiced, but I didn't mind, as there still was a little pleasant kick. The meat, otherwise, was very tender, with the three patties easily broken apart with a spoon for sharing. The group favorite was surprisingly the Spicy Chicken Kabob, consisting of boneless chicken breast marinated with a blend of Afghan spices for $17. The chicken was very tender and juicy, with a mild kick. I found it better than the $18 Lamb Tikka Kabob, with the meat in the latter being tasty but a bit dry/overcooked. There was also the tasty $15 Borani Banjan, or fried eggplant seasoned with spices and topped with garlic mint yogurt. This is available as an appetizer, but we got it as a main. The eggplant had a light crisp and a similarly tasty sauce, similar to the appetizers, which made sense in retrospect. The most well-known dish here is the Uzbeki Qabuli Pulao for $23, or braised lamb shank served over a bed of rice and garnished with sweet raisins and carrots. The lamb fell off the bone and was wonderful overall, and I can see why this is the most popular option here. I would comment on the Qabuli Pulao, but they gave us standard brown rice. They eventually gave us a separate dish of raisins and carrots, but this was annoying at best, as a few other dishes were coming out with said mixture on other tables, and I doubt they had all ordered it prior. For dessert, we got a single order of Firnee for $6, a housemade custard made with sweet milk, cinnamon, rosewater, and cardamom, garnished with minced pistachios. The custard was light with a mild sweetness. Otherwise, there was a pleasant floral flavor. We had a $5 pot of green tea with that dessert, which had some cardamom and I think maybe a little bit of cinnamon as well, and it went well. Overall, it was good, though a few of us got dessert afterwards at the excellent Pakistani shop Narala nearby. If the food wasn't so good, I'd be docking this spot another point or two, as this was the first time in a very long time that it felt like we were getting a different experience, in terms of bread and especially the rice, for some rather obvious/unfortunate reasons. The fact that they charged us for this rice multiple times without giving us said pulao irks me as well, even if it's only $3 per dish. To be honest, I would prefer to go back to a pricier spot in Manhattan, such as Afghan Kabob House or Ariana, where the service is nicer and we get the same experience.
