The restaurant itself is pretty simple -- don't expect a fancy dining environment -- but the food is definitely the main point here. We ordered Gol Gappay, lamb biryani, Gosht Karahi, and a naan. The Gol Gappay was interesting. Crispy shells filled with chickpeas and potato, with a tangy, salty, savory flavor. Adding a little yogurt balanced it out nicely. Definitely something different. The lamb biryani was around the low teens price-wise and came in a huge portion with plenty of meat. The lamb was slightly dry -- felt like it may have been prepared earlier and kept warm -- but still flavorful and within expectations for the price. The standout for us was the Gosht Karahi. Tender but slightly chewy lamb, very savory and well seasoned, with lots of large chunks of meat. It looks a bit pricey at first, but considering how much meat you actually get, it felt like a solid value. We packed up half of it and still thought the leftovers were more generous than some restaurants' fresh servings. The naan was massive. Good flavor, although it didn't have that super fresh-out-of-the-tandoor smoky char. Funny enough, reheating it in the air fryer at home made it even better. Inedible Signature Dish, Shockingly Unprofessional Service, and Zero Empathy ​We visited this restaurant based on strong recommendations, hoping for a memorable family dinner. Unfortunately, after paying a $221 bill, this turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences we have ever had. ​While the karai was a redeeming bright spot, the signature nihari was completely disappointing--resembling a heavy, generic spicy curry rather than traditional nihari, and ultimately left uneaten. ​However, the food was secondary to the appalling level of service. In all our years of dining out, we have never witnessed staff physically clearing plates and food from a table while guests were still in the middle of eating. It is a fundamental breach of basic hospitality and respect. ​Compounding this, we were dining with our children, including a child with autism who was having a genuinely difficult moment. Given that management is reportedly well aware of these parenting challenges, the complete lack of patience, empathy, or professional grace from the staff was deeply disheartening. ​A $221 bill should at the very least guarantee a baseline standard of customer care and human decency. We have been loyal customers since Lahore Restaurant has opened and are grateful for having a local Pakistani restaurant with good quality food. It's unfortunate that I have to post this as I feel despite us voicing our concern (multiple times) in person with the staff and also on the phone when ordering take out, the staff is not trained and do not take certain dietary restrictions seriously such as food allergies. After having a child who suffers from peanut and egg allergies, whenever we have dined or ordered from here as of lately, we have politely asked for certain food not to be served together and prepared properly. After expressing this, the staffs answer is rude and with an attitude and us being told "ok i'll just put it in a separate plate" after it being cross contaminated and served. Then during a take out order when we called to alert that there is an allergy, to please ensure the food is properly handled and packed separately from egg-containing items, we were told (specifically by Jaspreet) it is already prepared and packed, so the best that can be done is taken out and packed separately instead of adhering to the urgency of the matter and re-preparing the food. Our child broke out in hives due to their negligence in the past and I fear that their inefficiency to understand the seriousness of this matter will one day result in legal action being taken against this establishment if God forbid someone else has a reaction or worse a Fatality. My post isn't intended towards the quality of the food, it is more so to be heard and create awareness on this matter as it seems this establishment can care less towards your health needs. Update: We were contacted by ownership (Ishrath) and accused of being in the wrong and were met with disrespect and advised not to come to this establishment anymore as they cannot meet our "crazy demands." We should have been heard out, which was explained to co-ownership (Sobia) a few minutes after my review was posted, that this wasn't a personal jab towards the establishment however has happened to us on multiple accounts, specifically from staff member Jaspreet the past two times in a matter of two weeks. There was no apology on the matter, just defensiveness in a "sweet tone." This is more so a validation that despite us voicing our concerns multiple times in person, it has fallen on deaf ears and it is unfortunate that we have had to go to such extremes as posting this to be heard. Since my post, we see the attempt to have our post buried, and quite frankly hope it made a difference, albeit they have lost our business however we know the restaurant will still thrive. It was mild, savory and creamy. It took ~30 minutes to prepare as the menu states and they don't skimp out on the chicken. For the price point, I would say the portion is reasonable. The chicken was tender, buttery, and aromatic. My only complaint is that it wasn't served with anything so we had to add some Basmati Rice and Tandoori Roti on our own dime. Went here for a friends birthday with a group of 6. Waited over 2 hours to be seated, while they quoted the wait time to be no more than 45 minutes. When we sat and began receiving our orders, there was a small mixup. We discussed this with the waitress and were not upset, but just wanted the correct order. The manager however over heard the situation and began rudely yelling at the waitress over the mistake in front of the all the guests. We apologized to the waitress for the mishap given she was very friendly and this was not our intention. The pulses are not always ground to the same consistency and at times it is much spicier than other times. The chicken Karahi is popular and blew my friend's mind. The chicken seekh kabobs were delicious though not very tender. The naan is excellent. The atmosphere inside is quite hectic. I'd like to add that Pakistani food is not Indian food. If you expect your stew to come with a side of rice, it won't. That's not how it is traditionally eaten. You should buy a side of naan, and not dock points because you want the cuisine to be different to suit your tastes. Secondly, this food is spicy. It is very spicy. If you don't want to eat spicy food, then this place is not for you. "Too spicy" for you doesn't mean the food is made incorrectly -- you're just not at the right place for you, and that's okay. What a disappointment our take-out food was when my team and I ordered $200 worth of food. I ordered the Chicken Palak. I was shocked to find out it doesn't come with rice. It's just an oily spinach 5-piece chicken stew for $17. I cannot believe for $17, I don't actually get a full meal. I would have to spend an additional $6 for rice. I just cannot justify paying $23. Luckily, I did buy garlic naan for $3.50. But the palak was oily, it did not go well with the naan. This was a one-time thing. I don't see myself ordering from here again. Typically we order the kebabs, seekh kebab, chapli kebab and malai kebabs are our go to. If we are in the mood for something fancy we get the goat Karahi or the chicken karahi. A little bit on the oily side, but that IS how it's supposed to be. A stew requires the meat (or vegetable) to be completely immersed in the added liquid. Braising requires less liquid. But roasting is dry cooking, it requires no additional liquid. The meat is cooked in its own juices. Care is taken to prevent the meat from boiling or steaming. The WOK (aka Karahi), is the best utensil for roasting over an open fire /stove top. Without the Wok or Karahi, there would be no Karahi Ghost, the iconic dish of Central & South Asia. Traditionally, very few ingredients were used. The basic Karahi Ghost calls for dry roasting of Lamb with tomatoes, ginger, green chilies, and salt. A lot of people still do it that way, but, needless to say, over the years many avatars of Karahi Ghost have merged. In our NY/NJ region for the longest time Stewed Lamb and Braised Lamb was passed off as Karahi Ghost. Fortunately, things have changed, today there are quite a few restaurants which offer excellent Karahi Ghost. Lahore (1277 Paterson Plank Rd, Secaucus, NJ 07094) has three versions. Their Charsi Karahi Ghost (the Pot Head's Karahi Ghost) is as good as it gets. Prior to 1947, Lahore, was the cultural capital of the Indian Subcontinent. It was the city for writers & poets. It was the Hollywood of India. Back then people said, "A person who has not seen Lahore, has not yet been born".
