Fabulous service on a busy Friday night. Started with stuffed grape leaves appetizer. Delicious. Perfectly done with hot pita on side. Then the fried eggplant and zucchini appetizer which I could have eaten for dinner. Serving was huge! Then we each had a "sandwich". Shrimp was perfectly cooked and the biftek was amazing. My boyfriend and I had to stop to east ruthford to check out the area for a local event. By chance we came across this adorable restaurant that had a delicious fragrance coming from it right as we got off the 163. We were welcomed and seated quickly by the staff and given water on the very humid summer day. We were very dehydrated and we kept getting our glasses refilled (bless the staff). We didn't expect the food to be this delicious! My bf does not like tomatoes and he sampled the sauce and he was impressed. I had a bite of steak that didn't need anything extra to boost it's flavors. It is a shame that i live in NY and its so far away! If you live in the area or near it, go visit it. Its a cute date spot and the portions are generous. Something not shown is the babagonosh (eggplant dip) with fresh pita bread, it comes quickly and its refreshing. The chicken orzo soup was the best I have ever had. It was creamy without using cream. They provide a big slice if a juicy lemon to put into the soup. Was phenomenal. The ambiance and staff were friendly, fast, on top of everything, interacted with me (I am a flight attendant and I was dining alone). I had Anthony R., as a server. I also tried the fried feta (amazing but more dessert like than an appetizer) and the beet salad. Soo terrific. The beet salad even had a dollop of a garlic cold mashed potato thing. I personally didn't see a parking lot, but there were a ton of street parking. 2.75/3 Food Starters - we started with the avgolemono (lemon chicken orzo soup) and the fried zucchini and eggplant. Both were absolutely delicious; the soup was creamy while being so refreshing from the lemon. Mains - We ordered the chicken pita sandwich and the short rib special (came with penne pasta). The chicken pita sandwich - chicken was super tender and juicy, overall solid sandwich. The shortrib was absolutely amazing, it was fall of the bone tender, however the penne pasta that it came with was rather basic and personally didn't do much for me. Dessert: Baklava Cheesecake - for me personally, it was ok. The cheesecake's texture was much more firm than a normal cheesecake is - it does not give typical fluffy, light, and airy vibes. 1/1 Service Everyone from front to service staff were all amazing. 1/1 Price Ours meals were decently priced for the quality of items we received. Sofia's is by far a favorite of myself, friends, and colleagues. The restaurant is quaint, perfect for date night, alone, family time. You will not find a better eggplant dip, or hummus in the area. The soups are simply delicious. The stuffed tomatoes with salad is excellent, lentil soup, falafel, hummus with pita, Greek fries, stuffed grape leaves are all vegan, from what I was told. They have tons of menu options for carnivores. The food and service are always consistent. The staff and owner are very nice and kind to their customers. The waiters are very attentive and friendly. Dine in is available, take out also is an option. They have gone above and beyond to keep patrons safe during the pandemic. First time diner at Sofia's, on a Wednesday night. Cozy, casual ambiance. Our waiter was prompt, friendly and helpful with suggestions on the menu. The table started out with the hummus, eggplant, tzatziki sampler. Having just been turned on to fried pita, the combination was insane, in the best way. The table also shared the spanikopita. Fresh, hot, flaky, and very obviously homemade, wonderful. Entrees next. I had perfectly grilled medium rare lamb chops and a little Italianized orzo side with tomatoes garlic and feta....dude. The wife had a luscious slice of Mousaka that had to go home with us due to its richness. I'm in a Mediterranean joint, I have to try the baklava. Light, flaky, and soaked in honey. One of the best I've ever had. The table shared this and the Galactoboureko, a sweet custard, phyllo combination that was very tasty, but can't hold a candle to my darling baklava. Had dinner here this weekend. It was my first time dining indoors with COVID and was very thankful for how the staff kept everyone safe (social distancing, masks, hand sanitizer, etc). My boyfriend and I decided to try Sofia's last night since so many of my fellow yelpers raved about it. We opted for pick up because the weather was very iffy with the rain. I have to say that every encounter with the staff was great. They were all incredibly friendly and in very high spirits, on the phone and in person. I ordered a sample of their dips from the cold meze menu, fried calamari, a lamb burger and their meat combo platter. The dips were the star here! So good and fresh, the tzaziki was my favorite. Delicious and flavorful with nice chunks of cucumber. The hummus was super tasty too, the eggplant dip was nice too and I'm not even a huge fan of eggplant! I believe the last one was skordalia and that was great too. I'd come back here specifically for their meze. The calamari on the other hand was not my favorite. The fish itself was fresh and delicious but it was very very soggy. Might have been my own fault for getting take out, it's probably better being served super fresh out of the kitchen. The meat combo was good. The order got messed up because I wanted two chicken skewers and gyro meat. It was flipped but it was still ok, the chicken wasn't as flavorful as I was expecting and the rice was almost a little too cooked. Almost soggy. The gyro meat was good though. Lastly, the lamb burger. I asked for Greek fries instead of regular and that order got messed up as well. We got regular and while they were good I was looking forward to trying the Greek fries. The burger itself was good, not incredibly memorable. Overall, it might be a better option to dine in here and they do have a lovely setup outside. Visited Sofia's Mediterranean Grill for dinner last week after outdoor dining reopened. I had been meaning to go here for outdoor dining since before COVID-19, and now I had a great reason. The tables outside are spaced farther apart, depending on which table you get. Fortunately, mine was on its own by the main entrance. Menus were printed on standard 8.5"x11" paper, i'm guessing so that they could be one time use. For appetizers, we ordered the calamari and grilled octopus. Both were good. Not too much batter on the calamari and the simple seasoning on the octopus didn't overpower the flavor. For an entree, we split the meat combo platter, which had Greek sausage, pork and chicken kebabs, gyro meat, and bifteki, which was kinda like a seasoned hamburger. Everything was delicious, from the dips to the main dishes of mousaka, pastichio, stewed lamb, potatoes, spanakopita and the galaktoboureko. My favorite was the mousaka. It was sheer perfection!!! Came here for the first time the other night with my co worker. She always raves about this place and I was excited to see what all the hype was about. The hummus appetizer was phenomenal. I love that they make it themselves. I would prefer the pita bread to not be fried - at least I think that's what it was. I picked out the regular pieces because the fried ones had too much oil on it for my liking. Never the less, it was phenomenal. Next time I'll ask for the pita to come untouched. The food is reasonably priced for the large dish that you get. You have various sides to pick from. My shrimp was grilled a little too much. But it was not an issue at all. The place is BYOB which is a huge plus! They also do take out/carry out. I loved my first experience here. Staff was very welcoming. I will be returning back for sure! read more

I am 100% Greek (born and raised in NJ/NY) and grew up eating all the classics from here to Astoria, Brooklyn, Bayside, Chicago,Greece, and everywhere in between and I must say this place hits closest to home. I know many will read this and say "yeah, right" but truly and sincerely this place is a destination spot. I've tried almost every other Greek restaurant in North Jersey and this is my top rated. The octopus is so tender and grilled to perfection. It is NEVER rubbery or chewy --that in itself, for those that don't know is an ART. The horiatiki salad is so fresh and crispy, the fried zucchini so light and thin. I even love the tzatziki --it rivals my mother's but sorry --she wins of course! Overall, this place really is a gem. It's a simple, casual, and consistent place. Service is hit or miss but never atrocious (keeping it real) but the food quality outweighs that 10 out 10. This place is WAY BETTER than Stamna or Elia. I've had Stamna and Agora twice and they are CONSISTENTLY horrible. Elia, I've only had once, paid 3 times the money, and left WISHING I ate at Sofia's instead. Stopped by this cute little restaurant in the middle of the work day for lunch. It was surprisingly crowded for a weekday lunch crowd. I ordered the gyro sandwich, which came with french fries. It was a very sizable portion and I ate almost the whole thing because it was so good!
