Really close for us in distance, but often distant from my mind, but when Mediterranean is on your mind, this is it. Lamb Mix Grill. Chicken Mix Grill. Bean Salad. BYO.

12/12/23 We were on our way to look at Christmas decorations in Oakland NJ and stopped in on the way. Great find! Service was great, everyone was helpful. They dropped of a bread that was amazing! I would order this as an appetizer! Manti - Turkish Dumpling - wow so good! they are so small, I can't imagine how long it takes to make these delicious little bites! I don't like lamb but this was so good, I can eat this as the entree lol Chicken Kofte - yummy chicken meatballs :D the slaw was a little strange when I saw it on my plate but it taste great and complemented the chicken, gave it a little crunch. Mediterranean Dorado - I didn't like the texture of this fish, this is not a soft whitefish..., but hubby didn't mind. But flavor wise it was amazing! Rice Pudding - hubby loved it. I thought the rice was undercooked, but the pudding was delicious!

Lunch Special

Food was good. Lunch special, heavily advertised at $16.99, was $21 and change at pickup. When I asked why I was told the menu and website had not been updated yet.

This is a new place that opened up nearby and I was excited to try it. The food was good, I think they have a few kinks to work out in the service as some things requested were forgotten or delayed but they're very nice and the food tasted good. It's nice to have a new option in this area. I look forward to coming back to try some more.

We arrived just few minutes after opening, so it wasn't busy at all. They had a nice cozy interior with lots of Middle Eastern decor all around the store. We started with the Kashke Bademjan, an eggplant spread appetizer, that was so good with the complimentary fluffy bread. For entree we ordered the kabob combo for one. It has half skewer of chicken, half skewer of lamb and a full skewer of Koobideh. The kabobs and the rice were excellent. I also ordered the Chelo Mahicheh, a lamb shank dish with rice, that was amazing, The stew was full of flavor. The lamb was so tender, it was peeling off the bone. I thoroughly enjoyed eating the rice with the stew and the lamb. It was so huge I had to bring more than quarter of it home. There was only one person managing the front side of the store, probably the owner. He was super friendly and gave us lots of recommendations on what to order. He brought all the dishes out in short intervals and took the empty dishes out frequently. Overall really liked the food and the dining experience at this restaurant.

Clean. Quiet. The staff was very nice and attentive. Fresh baked bread on the house. It's warm, crispy outside and soft inside. I can probably finish that basket myself. It's so good. We got Kashke Bademjan (smashed eggplant). Great flavor, texture is consistent. So great with the bread. We also got kabob combo for 1 and lamb shank (the staff recommended). The meat on the bone literally fell out when you picking up. Packed with flavor and sauce/soup, juicy, tender. A must try. Kabob combo we got half chicken half beef and koabideh(mixed lamb/beef/onion). It's a great portion to try different kabobs. All are soft and tasty. Savory. Rice is fluffy. Salad is fresh. I love the fresh acidic salad against savory meat. Wonderful combination.

The service is very attentive. Right when we sat down the host gave us water which was nice. The waiter was a little too attentive, kept coming up to us to ask if we were ready to order when we were not, and just kept coming and coming every two minutes. They give complimentary flat bread which is tasty. Our Persian friend mentioned usually Persian restaurants give the bread with herbs and feta rather than just plain. We did find on the menu the herbs and feta was an extra cost. We had the kebab combo and subbed cherry rice and salad (which is cucumbers and tomatoes) and also exchanged the ground chicken kebab for a chicken breast kebab. The standout was the steak kebab and the cherry rice. There were so many cherries in the rice, and it was both sweet and savory. I couldn't stop eating it. The steak was super juicy and well seasoned. I also really like the roasted tomato on the side, basil and pickled cabbage. We ordered a stew, think it was Ghormeh sabzi. It had a bunch of herbs in it, and beans and a dried lime. Was told not to eat the lime. It was a very strong and rich stew, I took a couple of bites. Don't think I could have eaten the whole thing. It's very strong. It's our friend's favorite Persian dish and she loved it. There was one dish we wanted that they ran out of but they gave us a couple of dollars off the bill which was nice. Overall excellent food! Would come back.

Every meal here has been absolutely delicious, and I often laugh when I see how much my family has ordered as I carry a giant box of food back to my car. Our personal favorites are the Moussaka and Iskender Kebab. Both dishes are so flavorful, and one thing in particular that I like about the Iskender Kebab is how the pita underneath remains chewy and not soggy. We often get the Chicken Kebab, Doner Kebab, and/or Lamb Chops too, and you can tell that the meats are fresh off-the-grill as they remain very juicy even after some time in the car ride home. Their Greek Salad and Chicken Lemon Soup make for some great sides, and even down to their rice, the restaurant puts so much care into everything they make. Recently, their special dessert has been a Turkish apple pie/cookie (I should have asked the name but I think it's Elmali Kurabiye?) and wow--it could be the best apple pastry I've ever had! Seriously, if they have it in-stock you should try it. The pastry is so flaky and the apple filling is smooth and delicately sweet. Their baklava is a hit as well. I highly recommend coming to Chicken Kebab!

While the gyro and the tzatziki sauce and veggies were all very fresh, I wasn't so sure about the pita. It seemed a bit too hard. I was so hungry I ate all the meat and the salad and I enjoyed it. But I love a fresh pita and they missed the mark on that. The place doesn't look like much from the outside but when you go in, it's all very clean. You can byob too if you prefer an alcoholic drink which can save you a few bucks.
