Greek salad with salmon
Marge M.

I had to try this place. The food was tastey, the service was great, and the booths were very cool looking. You felt as if you were in your own secluded area. We got hummus, saganaki, chicken souvlaki, and greek salad with salmon, chocolate cake, and baklava. All very good as was the bread with the olive oil for the table. Our waiter was very nice, patient, attentive, and did a great job answering all of our questions.

When we visit my in-laws in the area, we like to get take out from Greek City. I'm sure one of these days we will dine in as well. Greek City has a large menu with a wide range of options. All of the classic, traditional Greek dishes included. I love the Thalasina platter, which comes with grilled shrimp, octopus, and calamari, drizzled with lemon and olive oil. It is priced a little steep ($37) but considering the pretty large serving of seafood, it's worth it. I also love the Maroulosalata salad, which is simple but flavorful (romaine, dill, scallions and feta with a light olive oil dressing). It's a large serving, plenty to share! Definitely the best Greek food in the area!

Gyro platter!!

Amazing!! We went to Greek City for my birthday and I am quite impressed. The restaurant is very clean and the food was amazing. The fried calamari was so light and delicious, it was not greasy at all. The zucchini chips were outstanding (my husband ate a lot of them and he doesn't like zucchini)! My kids got the salads and they were the small size but they were HUGE. I got the gyro platter and I have to say, that was the best gyro meat--cooked to perfection and not salty. The moussaka was outstanding as well. The waiter was very pleasant and attentive, but not overly attentive so it made for a fantastic dinner. I would highly recommend and actually can't wait to go back!!

Had an unsatisfactory lunch at Greek City today. To start off, we were greeted very oddly by our waiter. It seemed like he didn't want to serve us right off the bat. He didn't even introduce himself at all. Every time we spoke, he seemed so confused by our requests/questions, almost as if he was trying to make us feel dumb. He made my boyfriend and I very uncomfortable and unwelcome. Plus, when I saw him attending to the other customers, he was way more friendlier. That said, I definitely think he disliked us for personal reasons as soon as he saw us. Service/staff rate 0/10. Inside, it is spacious with several roomy booths and tables. It's also decorated with a bunch of Greek pictures. Ambiance rate 7/10. My boyfriend and I ordered... 1. Pastitsio This dish consisted of noodles and meat sauce which tasted mediocre. The meat sauce tasted like it came from a Ragu can, instead of a homemade recipe. The good thing about this dish was the crispy cheese baked over the top. Rate 5/10. 2. Lamb Souvlaki Platter The lamb was seasoned very nicely. Rate 8/10. 3. Grilled Shrimp Platter The shrimp was okay, nothing special. I wish they added more shrimp (4 count) considering they were average size, and the dish was pricey. Rate 6/10. *The potatoes on the platters had a very overpowering lemon flavor which I disliked. Plus, the side salad did not taste fresh at all.* The tzatziki dip was delicious; it wasn't oily like others I've had before. Rate 10/10. The Taramosalata dip was okay. It lacked its fish roe taste which was unfortunate because that's what it should mainly taste like. Also, I asked to substitute the tzatziki dip the platter comes with, with this dip, and they wouldn't allow it. I had to buy it as an appetizer which was frustrating. Rate 5/10. These dishes were definitely overpriced and not worth it considering most of the dishes tasted subpar. They gave us complimentary almond cookies as a dessert; maybe because their whole menu is pricey! Overall, I wouldn't come back here because of the uncomfortable interaction I had with the staff, and I've tasted much better greek food at a more reasonable price.

By far the best Greek food I've ever had! I got the Mousaka. Absolutely delicious! My daughter got the lamb souvlaki. Their portions are definitely large. If there's just a few of you going, consider sharing plates. Their prices were definitely reasonable for the amount of food that you get. Our order took a little bit longer than usual, just due to a malfunction in their software to the kitchen, but they brought us a free appetizer to make up for it. Their service was very prompt and the staff was extremely friendly. I can't wait to go back!

Beautiful, upscale place with delicious food and a weird name. "Greek City" sounds like a deli to me, but is anything but!

No. Food was okay but not equal to the price. At the end of the bill they charge a credit card fee plus a food fee. Totally unacceptable.

Even though the restaurant was packed for the holiday, they seated us right on time, which immediately set the tone for a great experience. The food was absolutely delicious -- we had drinks, appetizers including the lobster gyro app , eggplant chips and salmon and tuna with avocado sashimi app were all divine! The porkchops for dinner along with sea bass were excellent , and cheesecake and backlava were filling and tasty. Every dish was incredible. Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The atmosphere was just as impressive: lovely décor, an energetic vibe, a large bar area, plenty of parking, and both indoor and outdoor seating. While the outdoor space looked great, the indoor ambiance really stood out and made the experience feel extra special. Service, food, and atmosphere were all top-notch. I can't wait to return!

I've been dining at your restaurant for approximately eight years, and last Friday evening was the…read morefirst time I've left feeling disappointed -- which is why I felt it was worth sharing. I ordered the Chilean sea bass and was genuinely surprised by the preparation. It's such a prime piece of fish, but the heavy onion and tomato topping completely overpowered it. Unfortunately, the onion was still raw, which made the dish even more difficult to enjoy. It felt like the quality of the fish was lost beneath the garnish. The scallops were similarly confusing. Pairing seared scallops with a version of eggplant parmesan didn't feel cohesive, and the flavors competed rather than complemented one another. As for the appetizers, they fell flat. The hamachi lacked brightness and flavor, and the ground tuna and salmon quenelles did not taste particularly fresh. I do want to emphasize that the service was excellent, as it always has been, and the restaurant remains beautiful, clean, and well maintained. That consistency is part of why I've been a loyal guest for so many years. I'm sharing this because I care about the restaurant and hope this was simply an off night. I look forward to returning and experiencing the level of quality I've come to expect. Tell the chef to really taste the food and not ever send anything that isn't up to par for the reputation that Varka has maintained for many many years

We were thinking where I might have gotten food poisoning and my husband said when they were making my sushi he saw them use the same knife to cut the sushi as they had used to cut raw salmon. Do not order sushi here!

Allow me to paint the scene for you: my lovely wife and I were on our way back to her folks after a late-night jaunt to TJ Maxx. Apparently, her sister had tried on a terrific black number that she just HAD to have. As it turned out, their tastes were not completely aligned as we left the store empty-handed and returned to Monsey for a couple of consolation slices. We parked in the rear and entered through the service entrance. I love service entrances - I feel a bit like I'm better than everyone else. We saw a bunch of teenagers sitting in their respective "booths", if you can call them as such, which harkened back to high school memories with the wrestling team and girls who wanted to be seen with lettermen (I asked my mother-in-law if I should capitalize lettermen - she said no). The line for ordering wasn't as long as my dear wife remembered from her days of yesteryear, and it was our turn after a quick perusing of the shoppe's wares. I went in for a "vegetable" slice and the missus chose a regular cheese slice and a spicy fries. I immediately realized how wrong I was for using such a vague term as "vegetable" and asked the strapping young man for clarification. He told me he rang me up for a blizzard, and that I could change it but he sounded a bit harried in his conveyance. I told him no matter and summarily paid the $11 and change. Our pizza was ready in under 3 minutes and my wife, pregnant of 9 months, rose to the occasion and collected our order. After securing our own booth, not unlike the booths occupied by teens the store over, I began chowing down. The dough was a bit soft and so I employed the classic fold-your-slice-in-half technique. Rookie mistake. Obviously, to any innocent bystander, this was my first blizzard slice. Within seconds, oily sauce began pouring forth from every crevice. Allow me to explain the blizzard. Take a pie crust, cover it with mozzarella, diced peppers, onions and tomatoes, then top that with their signature house sauces - both sweet and spicy. The sauce overwhelms the slice. I enjoy a neat slice of pizza and I enjoy a true slice of pizza - the blizzard was neither. A slice of pizza should look a certain way. There's a bit of variance for and aft but when you verge too far from the original slice of pizza....well that just ain't pizza anymore. I summarily wolfed down my slice, the exact way my mother warned me not to for the first 27 years of my life, then got to work on the fries. The slice tasted fine, but it was a nightmare to consume. The fries were quite tasty, within a standard margin of soggy/crispy variance throughout. The missus finished up and then went to the counter for round two - takeaway for the in laws who were watching kid #1 at their home. I went to wait in the car. Within 5 minutes, she shoves her pregnant stomach through the driver's side door (I couldn't locate my license or wallet when we left for TJ Maxx all those hours earlier) with 2 boxes stacked on each other and proceeds to delve into this drawn out story with color photos and diagrams complete with circles and arrows on the back of each one explaining in detail what each one was for illustrative purposes to be used in the event I didn't grasp the gist of the situation. As it turned out, the young man behind the counter who, we'll call Elchanan to enhance the review, and also his name was Elchanan, asked my beautiful wife how I enjoyed my slice. True to form, she told him "it's totally fine, but he doesn't enjoy messy slices." Above and beyond the call of duty for such a station, Elchanan showed his true colors and rose to the occasion. The story transmitted to me went something like, "he quickly said, 'I know which slice he wanted!' And then he threw it in for free!" There's nothing like free pizza. Especially delicious vegetable pizza. But please, I implore you: don't order the blizzard.
