We finally made it to this place. While roaming around in Ridgewood when I saw this restaurant, since then I have been excited to try food here. On weekends they do take reservations by phone but on weekdays it's on first come first serve basis. We were seated outside as we did a last minute reservation and it was perfect on a summer evening! To start with, they got some breads and olive oil for the table. We tried quite a different appetizer here - burrata and panzanella - this was breaded salad and it was quite fresh all by with amazing burrata! Upon our server's suggestion for vegetarian option, we ordered Trofie Pesto and Lasagna Cacio Pepe. The Trofie Pesto had a nice basil flavor, not overpowering. We eat less salt generally but felt this dish could use some more salt for all the flavors to enhance. Absolutely loved the Lasagna Cacio Pepe - nice twist to the OG Cacio Pepe in the form of lasagna. The end our dinner we ordered Tiramisu and OMG it was heavenly!!! It was just the perfect tiramisu. I liked the strong coffee flavor to it. It was topped with some dark chocolate which was perfect as well. I would definitely come back here just to have that tiramisu. At the end our server got butter cookies which was spectacular. I wish I could gorge on some more of those cookies. They were absolutely spectacular and this is coming from a person who doesn't enjoy cookies, hahaha! Btw this is a BYOB place.

Went to From Scratch for dinner. The staff were incredibly friendly throughout. Small things such as asking if we preferred seating closer to the AC system did not go unnoticed! Started off with complementary bread which was solid. I had the carbonara trufata, which was sooooo good. I am not a big fan of carbonara, but do love truffle, so I was curious to try this, and I am so happy I did. The combination of the pasta and guanciale is top tier. The taste of the carbonara is very subtle while the truffle was more prominent which was great for me. Hint of black pepper too was also noticed. My only slight complaint is this incredible pasta could have been even better if it came out steaming hot or just hot, rather than slightly warmer than room temperature. I also had the tortalini stuffed with shrimp that was also very tasty. The food also came out very quick which was a huge plus. I will definitely be back!

We were in Italy for two weeks eating fresh pasta every day went to this great place in Ridgewood felt like we were back in Italy. Chef comes out. Talk to you for a little bit recommends a few things. Everything was absolutely delicious and I love that. It's to bring your own.

There was not one thing I did not like about this place. From the ambience, to how we were treated and greeted to the food and even the coffee. Hands down the best Italian restaurant I have ever been to that isn't in Italy. We've been to Italy a few times and always searching for an Italian restaurant that can sort of "top" Italy's cuisine and this one is the best. I am a big foodie person and can honestly say that I am very impressed. I had the trofie pesto and my husband had their famous lasagna bolognese. For the appetizer we had the eggplant and for dessert, the pistachio tiramisù... Will definitely come back in the future! It is worth the drive! Not to mention, downtown Ridgewood is charming.

A must go! WOW color me impressed. Everything is (surprise) made from scratch and perfectly done. Warm ambiance and lovely service. What I tried: The olive bread is from Balthazar and with the evoo was so good! Apps: --tuna tartare - super fresh! Loved the Parmesan twill with it. --Meatballs - yum! Served on top of these creamy cheese sauce so good The special was a melt in your mouth short rib. Seasoned and cooked perfectly. Dessert - my new favorite!! Holy moly the warm Nutella pie melts in your mouth and is the essence of hazelnut and chocolate with a crispy crunch on top and buttery cookie bottom. Absolute perfection!! I will come back to get a whole pie for the holidays! Loved the complimentary butter cookies along with my espresso was delicious. 100/10!

Food here is outstanding and you will not be disappointed with anything you order. The staff is friendly and attentive. The open kitchen area allows you to watch them prepare your meal. We ordered the eggplant appetizer; gnocchi and chicken special for dinner; and tartufo gelato and tiramisu for dessert. It's a very small space, so reservations are necessary-especially on the weekends. I highly recommend coming here!

I came to From Scratch years ago, like before COVID. I actually forgot about it until a friend and I were planning to go out to dinner and decided to go there. We called the day of and made an early reservation. When we arrived around 5:30 we were the only ones there, but when we left it was slammed. I suggest a reservation. It is also BYOB. They give you fresh bread with olive oil to start. For an appetizer, we split a salad that had a great dill dressing on it. For entrees, we both had pasta which was so fresh and homemade.

My wife and I recently celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary at From Scratch, coinciding with the restaurant's 10th anniversary, and it was an unforgettable evening that exceeded every expectation. From the moment we stepped into the warm, inviting space, the staff made us feel like honored guests, with a special nod to the milestone celebrations--both ours and theirs. The atmosphere buzzed with a joyful energy, perfectly balancing sophistication and comfort, as if the restaurant itself was toasting a decade of culinary excellence. The four-course tasting menu was a masterclass in flavor and creativity, each dish showcasing the kitchen's dedication to crafting everything from scratch. I began with the beef tartare, a delicate yet bold starter. It set the tone for what was to come: precision and passion in every bite. My wife got the eggplant caponata for her first course, a vibrant dish that was both rustic and refined. It was a testament to how From Scratch elevates humble ingredients into something extraordinary. The handmade raviolis were an absolute highlight, each delicate parcel bursting with a silky ricotta filling. The pasta was so tender it practically melted, a labor of love that spoke to the restaurant's name and ethos. We couldn't stop raving about the texture--perfectly al dente, yet impossibly light. The mint added a hint of freshness to the dish, that I was originally hesitant about, but I'm happy I gave it a go! For the main courses, my wife got the lamb. Perfectly cooked to a rosy pink, it was fall-apart tender, and had a perfect crust on the outside. The dish was hearty yet elegant. Equally stunning were the scallops, seared to golden perfection with a buttery, caramelized crust. They sat around a small bed of caviar with purple mashed potatoes. Each bite was a harmonious balance of sea and earth. The meal concluded with a ricotta dessert that was nothing short of divine. The creamy, cloud-like ricotta mousse was paired with a coulis with ginger dough crumbs. It was the perfect sweet note to end the evening, light yet indulgent, with flavors that lingered long after the last spoonful. From Scratch isn't just a restaurant; it's a celebration of craft, community, and unforgettable moments. For our anniversary, we couldn't have chosen a better place to mark the occasion, and we're already looking forward to returning to see what the next decade brings for this culinary gem. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a dining experience that's as heartfelt as it is delicious!

Delicious Italian food made, quite literally, "from scratch" (by an Italian couple that came from Italy maybe a decade ago). We started with a simple but very fresh and well-prepared salad, plus the eggplant parmigiana--different from the usual, subtle and soft, not fried to kingdom come. Then we both had excellent pastas--the cacio e pepe lasagna for my husband, the mushroom gnocchi for me--and finished with the scrumptious Nutella tart. Service was smooth (thanks Dmitry), and even though the food is prepared to order, it did not take forever. We will be back! (Note: the place is tiny, so you really do need a reservation.)

This place is an absolute gem. I came here on a Thursday night with 2 other friends and the place was packed! Definitely get a reservation or expect a wait. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful for recommendations on which plates are easier to share. Only wish they were a bit more diligent in keeping our water cups full- I drink a lot of water! The food was exceptional. My friends and I shared everything family style: - Burrata App: the burrata was creamy and fresh. And the panzanella was an excellent addition of tomato and bread. The bread still had a crunch which surprised us- clearly the panzanella is made on order! - Meatballs: my biggest complaint with meatball apps anywhere is that they tend to be on the smaller side and don't last long. These were no exception, but they were worth it! The cacio e pepe sauce complimented the flavor so well- I could eat an entire bowl of these - Eggplant Parm: so well made. The crunchy top added a nice extra texture. And the sauce both added a visually appealing component while providing even more depth to the flavor. So good. - Cacio e Pepe lasagna: Wow. Wow. Wow. I've never had anything like this. Truly a dish unique to From Scratch and a must-order when here. The creamy flavors and textures are balanced with the bite and crunch of the al-dente pasta and toasted top. - Rigatoni Carbonara: I knew I'd like this dish because I like carbonara. But man did this exceed expectations. The truffle flavor really adds another layer to the dish and makes you immediately look forward to the next bite. And that thick bacon is everything. Easily one of my favorite NJ restaurants to date. Will absolutely be back.

Ii gad a lovely dinner experience at From Scratch. The place is fairly small but I guess that is expected for somewhere that makes the food fresh. We had made a reservation (highly recommend) and they were holding our table. The menu is very small but everything on the menu is *chefs kiss.* We had started with the Tagliere Formaggi which was a cheese platter with Italian cheeses, fruit, and jams. Omg it was amazing! The combination of everything was great together. We also had the Panzanella with burrata. The burrata was so fresh. For an entree i had selected the lasagna cacio & pepe. Loved the creaminess of the cheese and the pasta tasted sooo fresh!! I had tasted my sister's entree which was the Carbonara rigatoni-- the carbonara sauce was so good and the guanciale ugh no words just delish!! We were so stuffed from dinner that we didn't get any dessert but they did give us some freshly baked heart shaped shortbread cookies. It was a nice way to end the meal. Overall it was a great dinner!! Everything we had tasted great. The servers were extremely nice and gave us really good recommendations! I will definitely be back! The restaurant is located in the downtown area of Ridgewood so mostly metered street parking and there is a parking garage nearby-- so plenty of parking options.

The wine is sold in half or whole bottles (not glasses), so I opted out this time. The menu is a mix of traditional Spanish tapas as well as American and Latin American mixed in. Our original Resy was canceled due to a change in business hours, so we were offered a complimentary dessert. We tried the cheesesteak empanadas, croquettes, bbq pulled pork arepa, garlic shrimp, octopus, short rib gnocchi and finished with tres leches cake. My favorites were the octopus, shrimp, gnocchi, empanada, and tres leches cake. Croquettes were the least favorite, just not exciting, and they were kind of smashed. The octopus was very tender and enjoyed the sauce and sundried tomatoes that came with it. Everything came out at the right temperature and at a good pace to not overwhelm the table with dishes. The restaurant is dimly lit. I found the booth backs to be very hard and uncomfortable - could use an upgrade. Prices per dish are high for the size, but to be expected with tapas in the states. There are a lot of choices so there's something for everyone.

We strolled in at around 5:45 on an early Saturday evening on a brick cold New Jersey day and they were BUSSSSY. There weren't many patrons dining inside their small restaurant, but there seemed to be PLENTY of takeout business for whole pies and delivery too. In addition, they had, if my count was correct, at least 9 gentlemen working behind the counter, which pretty much speaks for the volume of business they have (else they are grossly overemployed and overpaying). From what I saw just based on the pizzas on display next to the cash register, the slices looked pretty good. Unfortunately, as the old saying goes, looks can be deceiving. Not to say that the pizza was bad, but it could have been better on multiple fronts. We ordered 4 slices - plain cheese, pepperoni, buffalo and a Santoni's Special. In addition, my wife, veering on the healthier (and smarter) side, ordered a pear salad with chicken. First, I didn't get to try the pear salad, but my wife raved about how good it actually was and how she thoroughly enjoyed it as we munched on our pizza, which she should have been jealous of, but shockingly wasn't. Second, the pizza. My kids ate almost the entirety of their plain cheese and pepperoni slices, so I didn't have a chance to try them, other than a few roni cups that my son claimed were too spicy for him. As for my slices, the buffalo and Santoni's Special, the buffalo was a doozy. When I bite into a buffalo pizza slice, there's nothing I hate more than the fact that it lacks buffalo flavoring and this one was one of those cases. It was more on the side of just tasting like a chicken pizza slice with a slight hint of buffalo flavoring, if that. The Santoni's Special was a bit better in that it had green peppers, sausage, pepperoni, onion and mushroom. It reminded me of a Sbarro supreme slice of pizza. It might not seem like much of a compliment, but I actually enjoyed the Santoni's Special, albeit it was not on the piping hot side, nor did it keep is shape. In fact, neither slice I had was hot, which was very surprising considering that it took a while for them to be served to us, which can only have meant that it was heated up in the oven --- or so I thought????? Also, both slices I ate completely fell apart in that when I tried to fold them in half (like how a true New Yorker eats their slices of pizza), they cracked at the crust and broke creating a fissure looking like I had cut the pizza in that area. It was somewhat annoying as I had to eat the slice with 2 hands, which to me, is a big no-no as one should be able to devour a slice by holding it with just one hand. What self-righteous pizza lover holds a slice of pizza with 2 hands? Well, I had to unfortunately because of the fault line on my pizza. The pizza here definitely has potential and I don't know what a whole pie would taste like, but I'm pretty sure it would be fresher than the slices we had. I get that pizzas where slices are served from are typically sitting out for long periods, but you gotta heat the slices up a lot longer. Cold pizza should only be reserved for the morning when you wake up from that hang over and don't have the mental acuity to throw it in the oven or microwave it.

After visiting the Hackensack location recently, we decided to give the other location in Ridgewood a try as well since we loved the pizza so much at the original. We dropped in at around 5:15pm on a very quiet Memorial Day weekend Sunday evening and, as expected, the restaurant was also very, very quiet. We were only the 2nd group of diners for the evening, although it did get pretty busy as the evening wore on, including many pick up orders. We ordered a Caesar Salad to start along with the Combo Platter, which came with some fried ravioli, fried mozzarella, & chicken fingers. First, the Caesar Salad ---- we ordered it just to get some greens in our systems, but it was pretty much like the one served in Hackensack. The croutons in the salad were just cut up pieces of the bread that they include in the order as a side, but stale-tasting. As for the Combo Platter, that was decent, but the fried ravioli felt a bit empty, as in it felt like I was just eating a square piece of fried dough with no filling. The fried mozzarella and chicken fingers were decent, however, having some marinara sauce to dip them in DEFINITELY helped. For our entree, we shared a medium Tomato & Cheese pie with 1/2 Pepperoni. As I said, the reason we came here was because we absolutely loved the pie from the Hackensack location and didn't expect anything less here. The pizza pie came out piping hot, which was a great sign. Flavor-wise it was fantastic - the tang of the tomato sauce was delicious and the amount of cheese was perfect. Honestly, it was still one of the best pizzas I've EVERRRR had and I've had my fair share of pizza in NYC and New Haven. BUT...yes, there's a BUT here, where in Sam Hill was the pepperoni?!?! I encountered just a measly 9 pepperonis in total on the half of the pie that had it. Seriously, 9?!?! If I can count the number of pepperoni cups on the pizza, you better believe there is a problem...BIG problem. At the Hackensack location, we had the problem of having TOO MANY pepperoni cups, including 2 or 3 stacked one on top of the other. Anyhow, the pizza was still great, but more evenly spread pepperoni would have helped. Soooo, back to the service though. I'm not sure what it is about both locations, but the waiters really come off as rude - no "You're Welcomes", no "How is everything going? Can I get you anything?" Not much interaction at all. To be honest, not a whole lot of professionalism. At the Hackensack location, the waiters seem a bit more seasoned, but something still seems off, while at the Ridgewood location, we just didn't feel very welcome. Maybe we were being a bit sensitive, but having felt like we have dined everywhere, it felt easy identifying the "blah" service. Doubt it was an off night. Bottom line. The pizza is GREAT here and you definitely get your money's worth with the large, but don't come here thinking you're walking into the Cheers bar anytime soon.
