This is definitely a spot worth visiting. I love that everything is made in house -- you can really taste the freshness in the food. This place was in my list since a long time. I tried going here a few times but since they don't take reservations, I was put in a long wait time and couldn't try. But finally the time came! During winters the restaurant seems so cozy, rustic and perfect for a date night. And with summers they have outdoor seatings which looks a lot of fun too! It's a BYOB place. We visited on a Saturday night, knowing that this place doesn't take reservations and tends to get very busy. We arrived around 5:45 PM and were told there would be about an hour wait for a table. Although there were outdoor tables available, it was too cold to sit outside, so we decided to wait. To pass the time, we grabbed a drink at Steel Wheel nearby, and sure enough, our table was ready in exactly an hour. The restaurant is a bit tight inside, but our waiter was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The four of us ordered three pizzas, an appetizer, and two pastas to share. The pizza was just as delicious as I remembered. I hadn't tried the pasta before, but the vodka sauce pasta was absolutely outstanding--the spice level was perfect, and the pasta was cooked to perfection. Crust was excellent cheese was a little subpar sauces that I expected and it was a very good pizza. As long as you like that style. We got three appetizers. The burrata appetizer was excellent the shrimp appetizer was very good the octopus appetizer was terrible. Definitely not prepared the way any fine restaurant prepares octopus it was plentiful and it was tough. Our server was very attentive and did a good job we were happy to be able to sit outside. I am ecstatic, that I came across this restaurant. From the moment that we walked up to the entrance, they had a staff member waiting to greet us. The place is not large, but they do have outdoor seating, as well. Our server, Mark, was very cordial and accommodating. He gave us good recommendations and regularly checked to see if we were enjoying this blissful journey. The food.......the food...... THE FOOD! I've had hundreds of Regina Margherita pizzas, but I can place S. Egidio's in the top 5! Not only was it magnificently created, but they added small slices of tomato, and the crust was perfectly charred. The pie disappeared in, what seemed, seconds. The Marzano Pizza wasn't far behind. The ingredients were very fresh, the crust was pleasantly thin, and oh so flavorful. I cannot give enough recommendations for S. Egidio's. I've only had take-out from the place before, but today was a nice day with good weather so the family decided to go for a walk in Ridgewood. This was one of the only few places that was not packed. Not sure why, but it was a good chance to go and try out their fresh pizza instead of take-out. I have to say, the food was waaaay better fresh. We order 3 pizzas and a salad. One of them was a spicy pizza, not too spicy but had a nice kick in the flavor. The place itself was a very small few tables along the wall type of layout. Makes me think of a hole in the wall type of restaurant that serves banging pizzas. Dim lighting and tables so close you'll think you're sitting on someone's lap. The service was good, no complaints there. Water was always filled, got checked on every once in a while. I'm sure that's because we were basically sitting in the kitchen being how small it was. I'd go back again, but I'd probably want to sit outside and not cooped up like a bunch of chickens. read more

The first time I went to S. Egidio, it was phenomenal. True, the pizza was overstretched in the center and oversauced and subsequently fell apart, but the spicy rigatoni was the stuff of dreams. I felt it was the perfect blend of vodka sauce and Mac n cheese velvetiness. The beef ragu pasta was also above-average. The tiramisu didn't have any alcohol in it and was also lovely. I wouldn't shut up about it for weeks until my husband brought me back. My next visit at S. Egidio was unrecognizable. The service was...odd. We ordered one of the white pizzas, the spicy rigatoni, and the fra diavolo special. The pasta was undercooked although the sauce was still magic...I was so so sad. After ordering the fra diavolo, we realized there was no mention of pasta so we asked for a side of plain fettuccini. This fettuccini was clearly made from the scraps of other pasta or was otherwise seriously overworked. The ratio of egg to flour was way off, as if it must have been a mistake batch. It was thick and difficult to chew. We don't generally send things back to the kitchen, but it was simply inedible and we were forced to send it back. The seafood in the fra diavolo was cooked well, but the sauce was just not spicy and lacked sorely in salt/seasoning. Also, it did not even come with bread! The waitress suggested we dip our pizza crust in the sauce, which was a good idea but...no bread? The white pizza was better second time around. I opted for white to avoid a saucy breakdown like the first time. In all honesty, I should be giving S. Egidio 2 stars. However, my first experience with that spicy vodka pasta was so wonderful I just can't bring myself to do it. read more

The pastas are not too saucy (which tend to plague a lot of traditional Italian places). I know this place has received raved reviews and I have no doubt their pizza is delicious but when I stopped in, I was not very hungry so I ordered their Antipasto Della Casa Board. With this board, there were two types of imported Italian cured meats and handcrafted cheeses served with honey. The selection was underwhelming but I did notice the wood fire pizza oven and the pizzas being made, they looked delicious. I will have to come back here to try the pizza! Sometimes the wait can be long but when you are craving their delicious gourmet pizza, you'll wait. Summertime is a little shorter wait since they do set up tables outside in front of the restaurant for outdoor dining. The pizzas are small and pricey but this place is byob, so you can splurge on ordering 2 or 3 different pies to share, bring your own bottles and have a great time here.
