In the past, I have had fair/good experiences here yesterday was the exception where I would rate the overall experience is poor. I attended a small group function in their back room. It took 45 minutes for bread to come out onto the table. The staff of two seemed ill prepared. They never asked to take any orders for beverages and at the end of the event, they did not offer coffee or dessert. It seemed like they were just overwhelmed. Overwhelmed, although the restaurant itself was empty. I just felt embarrassed for the host. As for the food, again, it was only just fair. No real skill involved in the preparation. I had one of the poorest experiences I have ever had at this pizzeria. I am embarrassed to have spent my money here. The food: average and not an ounce more. I spent 48 dollars on ONE pizza and one small Cesar salad. I asked for a small side of parm cheese because it was a pick up order. I was blown away with the response that I got from their employee. "I have to charge you a dollar for parm cheese. It's a new policy from our owner." This is despicable. Almost 35 dollars for a pizza and 13 for a side salad and you need to charge me for a sprinkle of Parm cheese for her to go order that I would not have to pay for if I dined in? We love the food and the people who work there are very nice but there is nothing to absorb the noise. The walls are Brick and other hard surfaces and sound just bounces around the dining room. They should hang tapestries or something on the walls to absorb the sound waves and lessen the volume. We still go there but not as often because it's so loud. Pizzeria Mandara is a fairly large Pizzeria / restaurant with lots of seating, every time I've visited I've never ran into an issue of having to wait 30+ minutes for my table which is gold especially when you make plans to visit on the fly. Service is spotty to be honest, on some visits I'll have the most attentive waiters/waitresses however on others I'll have those who lack social skills and basically forget to check in. Pizza's are delicious - my favorite is the vodka pie, but you can never go wrong with a plain cheese pie though my husband would argue that the best is their pepperoni. Other then pizza's I've tried out their Penne all Vodka and I have to say it's pretty good, but they constantly fail me on the amount of sauce they give. I've literally been charged because I asked for more sauce, I don't think that's right, but if you're used to having saucy pasta you'll do the same. read more

I heard about this place from my sister-in-law and brother. They said the food was good and last night I was in the mood for pizza. Well, the menu looked so good we had to try a couple of things. We shared the Fig and Gorgonzola salad which was over arugula and endive with red onion, crumbled gorgonzola, olive oil, aged balsamic, and walnuts. The figs were delicious and so fresh. We also had the fried calamari, one of the best we've ever had. They were so tender and melted in your mouth. We ordered the Nona pizza forgetting that it was a square pizza and not thin slices. It didn't matter because the dough was airy and the crust around the edges was perfect and easy to bite into. And the flavor was the best that I've had. They don't have a large drink selection, primarily wine, which must be bought by the bottle. They have half bottle sizes for a few of their wines. Their menu states that according to NJ law wine must be sold by the bottle. I've never heard this before I'm restaurants as we've always ordered by the glass everywhere else we've been, so not sure what that was all about. We had the house Chardonnay, which was okay. We decided to have the dessert special, Lemon Almond Cake. Oh my goodness. First of all, anything citrus gets my attention, especially lemon anything. But this dessert is a classic Italian cake. It was amazing! Delicious! I wish I could buy the entire cake. I'll have to inquire about that. We also had cappuccino along with the dessert, which was also very good. Our server was very pleasant and the staff was attentive. This restaurant gets busy quickly. We came at 5pm on a Friday evening and we're seated immediately, but it fills up quickly. Make a reservation if you can or come early. It's located in a shopping plaza across from the Stop N Shop so there is plenty of parking available. Highly recommend this place. Forgot to take pictures of some of the items we ordered before devouring it but sharing it anyway. This is a very nice, very busy Italian place that I went to with my wife and in-laws on a Friday night. Reservations are a must and one taste of the food will tell you why. As a starter, they give complementary bread and the garlic knots that came with it was scrumptious. I ordered the Michelangelo without tomatoes and it was outstanding. The bowtie pasta was perfect and the sauce that accompanies it was very tasty. The menu has a lot of options and service was good. First and last time here. Came in and ordered four slices and wanted to sit and eat. While slices were being heated, I looked for a table. The hostess ran over and stopped me from sitting in the EMPTY dining room, stating the four tables by the counter were for slices only. There were a bunch of loud children sitting there that I was trying to avoid and other tables were occupied by people waiting for their orders. Just checked out this restaurant with friends of ours. The ambiance is modern and clean and it was just right for dining with family. (Aka kid friendly) We were seated by a friendly staff member and soon thereafter were welcomed by a knowledgeable waiter. He helped us navigate the menu and we selected the calamari and antipasto to begin. We asked for the kids dinners to come out with the appetizers and they worked the timing out perfectly. The calamari was in the sweet spot of crispy and tender and the antipasto was a creative medley of Italian delicacies. It had the traditional meats and cheeses but also featured olives, mushrooms, roasted peppers, and some excellent beans. (Maybe Gigante) For an entree, I went with the chicken scarpariello. The menu indicated it would take longer to cook but it was definitely worth the wait. Juicy chicken and sausage with a bit of a kick in a flavorful sauce including peppers and onions. What solidified my opinion regarding this restaurant was the attention they paid to the sides. Often an Italian restaurant can prepare a tasty entree and then dumps some steamed vegetables on the plate, Pizzeria Mandara served al dente green beans that had flavor and also included decadent mashed potatoes. I was stuffed but I still took a piece of their excellent bread and sopped up the sauce. All of the other entrees at the table looked delicious and each diner had positive things to say The fact that it's BYOB, saved us a ton on the bill and allowed us to bring in some excellent wine to pair with the food. Been there many times & never been disappointed. I love their varied menu, they definitely have something for everyone, even 2 fussy kids. Came for my daughter's birthday, enjoyed all our food but have to compliment our server Hasman (hope i got that right!) especially - Ive noticed for years that this is one of those rare restaurants that have workers who stick around - we have seen the same people there for years. While Hasman was new to us, he did an amazing job: courteous, the perfect amount of attention & even tried to get a little who was shy, to talk to him. Good food, great service! read more
