I walked in order a slice of pizza with anchovies. And two minutes I got my slice. I picked it up from the plate and it literally broken in half so much oil and extremely thin crust and I picked it up at the counter .....they didn't say anything as I said out loud "wow this pizza is so thin".... horrible. read more

This review is simply for their pasta. Let me start with saying I enjoy their grandma and Sicilian pizza. The Chicken parm with spaghetti was horrendous since the chicken was days old. And the watery sauce that was barely poured on the under cooked pasta. Also ordered the penne vodka with breaded chicken and that was unfortunately worse. The pasta was dry even with the little bit of vodka sauce that it had. ( maybe they ran out of everything since it was New Year's Day). Could be they were just trying to get rid of their old stuff from days ago but I will recommend they don't try that again. The outcome was 2 horrible and inedible dinner plates and a 1 star. Just picked up a pizza at this restaurant for the first time.....Fantastic. The crust is perfect and the toppings generous. It's easily the best pizza I've ever had. I would spend a lot more money at Renato's if you'd, you know, have some pizza ready around meal times. Your chicken parm slices are great, but you never seem to have them available between 6-6:30 PM when I'm getting home from work. I even call in advance sometimes, and often it's, "No, sorry." I ordered 3 slices from the glass showcase which had toppings and the man in the front fills up the boxes with the 3 slices I ordered plus 3 plain slices that I didn't order and tells me I owe $21. I told him that I only ordered the 3 slices with toppings and that I didn't even know he had plain slices since they weren't displayed. I guess they keep plain slices tucked away in the back. He grunts very loudly and says "YOU SAID 3 PLAIN, COME ON AMIGO! NO YOU SAID 3 plain!".... at this point I was completely baffled at the bad customer service. My favorite spot in all of North Jersey for a pepperoni pie. Regardless of your topping preference, the X-Large has the perfect ratio of cheese and sauce to crust. Appetizers are a win as well, particularly the mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders. No fountain beverages but ample selection of bottled drinks. I have been hating to write this for a while now. I few months back I ordered a white pizza with spinach take out from Renato's Pizza. After getting my family and I started eating the pie but was able because of the nasty spinach stems so I bought it back and I was told that's how they always do it and they didn't offer to fix the problem. Tried Grandma pizza this trip based on other reviews and was not disappointed. A variation on a Sicilian pie, with a thinner crust, plum tomatoes, mozzarella and spices that I ate often as a kid in NYC in the early 60's and more recently in Nutley (Bel Paese). More like a cheesy Focaccio than traditional pizza. Very nice crispy crust with great flavors, but a bit greasy from the abundance of cheese and olive oil. Less grease would make the Grandma one star better. As usual, the service and value are hard to beat. read more

I'm mainly into grandma pies lately. Was glad to see that Renato's offers a variety of this. The Renato grandma spans about 2/3 the space of an average pizza box. The pie a solid performer, with highlights and some drawbacks. It hits the spot with its seasoning and flavor. The drawbacks is that the dough is slightly chalky, and breaks up in your mouth like a cracker. Though more can be had, you won't go wrong with Renato's grandma pie. read more

So just to be clear the one star is for the service and tip adjustment from $5 to $15 on the bill after I signed it. The food we ordered was good, and came in a timely manner. The young lady who was providing service came off as extremely annoyed, and unwelcoming..... It's disappointing that a local place that has parking and decent food makes people feel uncomfortable in asking for any service. To top it off, they had the audacity to change the tip amount on the bill, adding $10 to a $40 bill. That's completely dishonest and I will never return there again.
