Classic pizzeria with amazing character. Been going for years and have always enjoyed the heroes and individual slices for lunch or dinner! Most recently stopped in and had a BBQ chicken slice and penne vodka slice! Both are so good - come hungry! CASH ONLY - they have an atm ;)

    Margherita and Sicilian slices

Made our way over here after a friend kept telling us we had to try their Sicilian and Margherita slices. It's right in the heart of town, so there's street parking only which can get a little hairy. Pizzeria is a very old school looking establishment, which I love. Lots of charm. They do sell pizza by the slice but it is cash only. So either have cash on hand or there's an ATM in the lobby. Both slices were very good. I thought the Sicilian was slightly better but that's my personal preference. Sauce was extremely good. Not overpowered with seasoning. Sicilian was nice and cheesy and Margherita was made with quality fresh ingredients. I should have asked it to be kept in the oven another minute or two to crisp up the crust but that's on me. Lastly, service was excellent which is always a plus.

The best pizza in my humble opinion in NJ. I have been going the for over 35 years. John and now Umberto are absolutely the best. I will always go back and get my two slices and soda and feel at home. The take home a pie to enjoy. Service is always fantastic and friendly.it is the typical pizza joint. I have so many memories there and the atmosphere is always welcoming. We are treated like family.

Love the skinny little entryway, love the old school pizzeria vibe, love the friendly staff. The crust here is GREAT -- chewy and delicious. The margherita slice wasn't the best I've ever had; it was good and I would get it again, but I wish it had less flop/wasn't as messy to eat. CASH ONLY! But they have an ATM up front, if you need.

    A large pie extra cheese

Why would they try to remove an honest review? The pie got delivered by kid in a black Audi SUV... this is a pizza from John's Boy. Basically, I placed a phone delivery order for a Large pie Xtra cheese on 1/20 at around 9:00pm and received the above pizza at around 9:30pm. While I was grateful that they were able to deliver to FL when it was almost closing time, I do wish they may have taken a bit longer to allow the cheese to settle because it actually spread off the pie (the above is my trying to put it together-- check the fat oil spot on the bottom right). I was really hungry and it was pretty late so I ate the pizza anyway but just as a notice to the owners/delivery drivers to be more careful when delivering just-out-the-oven pizzas because the final product quality suffers.

Chicken penne vodka slice - get it without the penne
    Annie D.

Dined in for a quick bite both times I have been here. A plain slice here is consistent and ratio of ingredients to dough is perfect to me - crust is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, and not too thick. Chicken vodka slice is bomb dot com. I tried chicken penne vodka on a slice but thought the penne was overkill, so wouldn't recommend. Other dishes are simple and tasty - we ordered mozz sticks, shrimp marinara on penne, Mediterranean salad, and Stromboli, but don't go out of your way to order these unless you're specifically craving. Solid local pizza joint - staff is super friendly! Looking forward to seeing how pizza holds up thru delivery or takeout!

A very hidden sliver of a busy Main Street, this pizzeria at first can be hard to find. It was our first time ordering pizza from here relatively close to us so we gave it a whirl. We order two large pies, a classic nyc style cheese pizza and one with sausage. Because we also had a vegetarian among us we also chose to order their Mediterranean salad that they advertise as one of their most popular salads. The person who helped me at the counter when I was picking up my order was really nice and friendly. Because this was my first time ordering from this pizza place, I was surprised to find out it is a CASH ONLY establishment. ATM is by the door. They also do NOT DELIVER! Pizza- the pizza is pretty reasonably priced at $14 for a regular large pie I believe it was around 2 dollars to 2 dollars and 50 cents to add a single topping to your order. Salads were also around $10-$14. The pizza itself wasn't the best pizza I've ever tasted on the east coast but was still arguably better than a lot of the other pizzerias I have tried to date in the Washington area. There are a lot of pockets of tomato sauce that turns into watery pool which will contribute to your cheese falling off the slices. If you are a real sticker for your cheese not slipping off your slice, this is not your pizza. Salad - Mediterranean salad was decent - the portion was enough to share amongst three people and there was a good amount of variety of toppings. There were some pieces of cheese, olives, and roasted red peppers. One thing I did not like that I was surprised that they tossed my to-go salad with the dressing rather than serving it on the side. A huge no- no in my book as it causes the salad to wilt and this shouldn't be the case in a to-go order. Besides that, this place is pretty decent - not a pizzeria worth raving about but still satisfied my craving to get a New York style pizza.

    Yum! Great Jersey Pizza.

Really enjoyed the pizza here. There was a lot of sauce, a lot of cheese and the crust was crunchy. A nice, old school style NJ pizza.

We strolled in at around 5:45 on an early Saturday evening on a brick cold New Jersey day and they were BUSSSSY. There weren't many patrons dining inside their small restaurant, but there seemed to be PLENTY of takeout business for whole pies and delivery too. In addition, they had, if my count was correct, at least 9 gentlemen working behind the counter, which pretty much speaks for the volume of business they have (else they are grossly overemployed and overpaying). From what I saw just based on the pizzas on display next to the cash register, the slices looked pretty good. Unfortunately, as the old saying goes, looks can be deceiving. Not to say that the pizza was bad, but it could have been better on multiple fronts. We ordered 4 slices - plain cheese, pepperoni, buffalo and a Santoni's Special. In addition, my wife, veering on the healthier (and smarter) side, ordered a pear salad with chicken. First, I didn't get to try the pear salad, but my wife raved about how good it actually was and how she thoroughly enjoyed it as we munched on our pizza, which she should have been jealous of, but shockingly wasn't. Second, the pizza. My kids ate almost the entirety of their plain cheese and pepperoni slices, so I didn't have a chance to try them, other than a few roni cups that my son claimed were too spicy for him. As for my slices, the buffalo and Santoni's Special, the buffalo was a doozy. When I bite into a buffalo pizza slice, there's nothing I hate more than the fact that it lacks buffalo flavoring and this one was one of those cases. It was more on the side of just tasting like a chicken pizza slice with a slight hint of buffalo flavoring, if that. The Santoni's Special was a bit better in that it had green peppers, sausage, pepperoni, onion and mushroom. It reminded me of a Sbarro supreme slice of pizza. It might not seem like much of a compliment, but I actually enjoyed the Santoni's Special, albeit it was not on the piping hot side, nor did it keep is shape. In fact, neither slice I had was hot, which was very surprising considering that it took a while for them to be served to us, which can only have meant that it was heated up in the oven --- or so I thought????? Also, both slices I ate completely fell apart in that when I tried to fold them in half (like how a true New Yorker eats their slices of pizza), they cracked at the crust and broke creating a fissure looking like I had cut the pizza in that area. It was somewhat annoying as I had to eat the slice with 2 hands, which to me, is a big no-no as one should be able to devour a slice by holding it with just one hand. What self-righteous pizza lover holds a slice of pizza with 2 hands? Well, I had to unfortunately because of the fault line on my pizza. The pizza here definitely has potential and I don't know what a whole pie would taste like, but I'm pretty sure it would be fresher than the slices we had. I get that pizzas where slices are served from are typically sitting out for long periods, but you gotta heat the slices up a lot longer. Cold pizza should only be reserved for the morning when you wake up from that hang over and don't have the mental acuity to throw it in the oven or microwave it.

After visiting the Hackensack location recently, we decided to give the other location in Ridgewood a try as well since we loved the pizza so much at the original. We dropped in at around 5:15pm on a very quiet Memorial Day weekend Sunday evening and, as expected, the restaurant was also very, very quiet. We were only the 2nd group of diners for the evening, although it did get pretty busy as the evening wore on, including many pick up orders. We ordered a Caesar Salad to start along with the Combo Platter, which came with some fried ravioli, fried mozzarella, & chicken fingers. First, the Caesar Salad ---- we ordered it just to get some greens in our systems, but it was pretty much like the one served in Hackensack. The croutons in the salad were just cut up pieces of the bread that they include in the order as a side, but stale-tasting. As for the Combo Platter, that was decent, but the fried ravioli felt a bit empty, as in it felt like I was just eating a square piece of fried dough with no filling. The fried mozzarella and chicken fingers were decent, however, having some marinara sauce to dip them in DEFINITELY helped. For our entree, we shared a medium Tomato & Cheese pie with 1/2 Pepperoni. As I said, the reason we came here was because we absolutely loved the pie from the Hackensack location and didn't expect anything less here. The pizza pie came out piping hot, which was a great sign. Flavor-wise it was fantastic - the tang of the tomato sauce was delicious and the amount of cheese was perfect. Honestly, it was still one of the best pizzas I've EVERRRR had and I've had my fair share of pizza in NYC and New Haven. BUT...yes, there's a BUT here, where in Sam Hill was the pepperoni?!?! I encountered just a measly 9 pepperonis in total on the half of the pie that had it. Seriously, 9?!?! If I can count the number of pepperoni cups on the pizza, you better believe there is a problem...BIG problem. At the Hackensack location, we had the problem of having TOO MANY pepperoni cups, including 2 or 3 stacked one on top of the other. Anyhow, the pizza was still great, but more evenly spread pepperoni would have helped. Soooo, back to the service though. I'm not sure what it is about both locations, but the waiters really come off as rude - no "You're Welcomes", no "How is everything going? Can I get you anything?" Not much interaction at all. To be honest, not a whole lot of professionalism. At the Hackensack location, the waiters seem a bit more seasoned, but something still seems off, while at the Ridgewood location, we just didn't feel very welcome. Maybe we were being a bit sensitive, but having felt like we have dined everywhere, it felt easy identifying the "blah" service. Doubt it was an off night. Bottom line. The pizza is GREAT here and you definitely get your money's worth with the large, but don't come here thinking you're walking into the Cheers bar anytime soon.

I did order a couple of rice bowls, but somehow they were not included, and I don't think I was charged for them so since they would've been for next week, I'm not going to worry about it.. We definitely have enough food for leftovers. I particularly love the eggplant Parmesan because it is thin and cheesy and delicious. We both both enjoyed the crispy fried shrimp, which was everything fried shrimp should be, crispy on the outside and sweet on the inside. The shrimp franchise was a nice compliment With butter and wine taste. Honestly, this is a wonderful dinner to take home. We always get enough food for extra because leftovers are also . Frank is always wonderful with getting the orders. The staff are always polite and professional. We also got some grandma's cookies, that if you're Italian, you know the little cookies with the white icing and the sprinkles. My grandmother used to make them so I really enjoyed them.
