Whenever it was cooked and/or reheated, it certainly was not fresh--and should never have been served to any customer...let alone, in our case, to an elderly woman who can no longer get to the restaurant due to mobility issues, but was so looking forward to a quality meal! Instead, she was given garbage from Matthews Diner--literally--that obviously could not be eaten. As for the missing wing, we can only assume that it was so burnt and charred in appearance that the cook, chef or whatever the person in Matthews kitchen can possibly be called decided to hack it off before it could be seen....and then put the remnants of the inedible chicken into the packaging for us to unknowingly purchase! Beyond the defrauding of a wonderful, elderly woman and longtime, now-former customer, does this restaurant have no shame? But the miserable treatment wasn't finished yet, as the reaction from owner/manager "Sam" when reached on the phone was that it was basically our tough luck! According to Sam--who offered no make-good or refund--we had the responsibility to open the packaged, wrapped up dinner tin and check what was in there thoroughly before we bought the meal (really?)--as opposed to trusting the diner to check its own food and have quality standards! Sam then insulted my elderly mother (the senior-aged customer for whom the meal was purchased), and, before hanging up, said "Don't come here again!" Bud, you can rest assured that nobody in our family ever will.

We arrived a little after 9pm. The service of the young server was perfect. He was prompt, polite and attentive to our needs. The food was as good as you can get at a highway diner. We got what we expected and enjoyed it. Desert, however, is another story. D is allergic to anything that contains caffeine. That means no coffee, tea, certain pain medications and NO CHOCOLATE. She asked me to go to the display counter and see what kind of cheesecake there was. There were many different kinds: mango, orange, caramel, banana and more. Unfortunately, this diner's idea of garnishing a desert is with a creme topping loaded with CHOCOLATE STICKS, CHIPS, AND COOKIES! (see attached photo) EVEN THE DESERT LABLED VANILLA CAKE WAS FESTOONED WITH CHOCOLATE HOO-HAH! When I mentioned this to the management, I was told, "Well, we have rice pudding and baklava." No matter how I worded it, he just couldn't seem to comprehend that a good 90+% of his deserts had chocolate which was discriminatory against people who are allergic to chocolate. I even tried to put it in another reality for him. I asked if their baker made anything with peanut or peanut butter. He replied in the affirmative. I asked if they had a special preparation area so that there were safe deserts for a child with a peanut allergy. He didn't seem to understand the premise. So, if you, or your child have ANY food allergies, I strongly suggest that you avoid the Suburban Diner at all costs. We will be doing so in the future.

Located off of Broadway in Fair Lawn, we have returned to Gotham City Diner after 4 years for brunch today. Upon entering, my partner and I got a booth by the window with high ceilings, decorated by various NYC subway signs where I recognized having spent years of my life, and huge, nice artwork on the wall. Their menu featured two sides that have a LOT of options without being overwhelming, ranging from breakfast to dinner for everyone. We decided on the 2 Eggs Scrambled with Corned Beef Hash and Short Rib Benny (Eggs Benedict). The food was amazing, with fresh ingredients and tastefully delicious. The portions were generous and the price reasonable. Our service was prompt and friendly; our server was Susana. The gentleman behind the register is always kind and professional. We made small talk about the huge painting on the wall that depicts 3 different places in New Jersey. We continue to recommend.

Dress pants, dress shoes and light blue polo. Totally appropriate. They told me that they didn't have any coffee. At first this was just weird (the place was virtually empty, and it is a CAFE). I asked if I could use the bathroom, and the lady looked me up and down. Her eyes locked on my rainbow necklace, and she said "you can go across the street." I thought she had to kidding, but as I looked at her I saw an expression that held mild disgust for me on her face. "Public restroom across the street" ( which there isn't...she was directing me to the stop and shop across the street, another business). I couldn't help but understand and feel what she was saying as: We don't want people like you here. Go where you belong. As I walked out I couldn't help but notice the sign they display that says "Ridgewood, There is No Place Like Home." I can't believe this exists in 2025 Ridgewood.

The host at the desk didn't even look up for literally three minutes. When he finally did, he was preoccupied a d seemed annoyed with us..he grabbed the menus, brought us to a booth, tossed the menus on the table, and basically walked away. No hello, no Happy Mother's Day, no "your server will be with you shortly." It then took about 20 minutes just to get a cup of coffee and we had to ask to be waited on We placed our food order at the same time, and about 20 minutes later the waitress came back and asked us to confirm what we ordered. Needless to say, everything took forever after that, including getting the check. We were in the diner for about an hour and a half. Everyone understands restaurants can be busy on Mother's Day, but it wasn't busy when we got there, and even when places are busy, no one should be spending an hour and a half in a diner for breakfast. What's disappointing is that this is actually the second time we've been there since the renovation, and unfortunately we had the same experience with the service both times. From now on, we'll gladly take the extra 20-minute ride to the River Edge Diner in River Edge. The service, food, and staff there are excellent, and you actually feel welcome and happy to be there. Food here was OK, but the service and overall experience were disappointing. We will not be going back.

On a Saturday evening, we ventured in for a sweet treat and it was thankfully pretty quiet. They have a good selection of different flavors like guava cheesecake, black sesame and various teas. We enjoyed the saffron kulfi (almond, pistachio, cardamom) and cookies and cream (blue tinted which didn't seem necessary). The server gave us a nice big scoop for $5.99. In addition to ice cream cakes, they sell signature sundae type things that you can customize and likely friendly to the camera but not to your wallet. There's a good amount of seating towards the back, which is nice since most ice cream shops are small. There's also a location in Hoboken. Looking forward to returning!

It was piping hot and literally just melted in my mouth with each bite and the side that came with it was a mix of asparagus, mushrooms, farro and I don't know what else, but it was fantastic if I could have that side on its own as well, I would order more. My husband's pork was crispy and delicious with another incredible slaw topping, and it was so massive he has to take home like a third of it for dessert. We had the lemon meringue tart for dessert, which was also incredible and so refreshing for a dessert. All of the food was outrageously fresh and just outstanding. This restaurant is our new favorite place and on the way out we even made a reservation for three weeks from now to come back. Their homemade ice cream is delicious, and they offer a huge variety of flavors. We stopped by on a Friday afternoon and lucked out--it wasn't crowded yet. If you've ever been here during peak summer hours, you know that's a rarity. This place is a local favorite, and long lines are pretty common later in the day. I was really hoping to get my favorite, Bailey's Cream, but they were sold out. That's one thing to keep in mind: while they have a ton of flavors, they aren't always all available. I ended up ordering the Black Raspberry Chip with free rainbow sprinkles (my go-to), and it definitely hit the spot. Someone in our group got a milkshake and absolutely loved it, while another ordered the Cappuccino Oreo and enjoyed it as well. Portion sizes: A single scoop (their small) is surprisingly large. With prices having increased over the years, I'd love to see a smaller, more affordable option for those times when I just want a little ice cream. I also wish they'd let you choose two flavors in a small cup instead of requiring a double scoop (medium) if you want to mix flavors. A few things to know before you go: Van Dyk's is cash only, although they do have an ATM inside if you need it. The shop itself is very small, with no indoor seating or restrooms. There are only a few places to sit outside, so most people end up standing around or grabbing a spot on the small wall. Parking can also be a bit of a headache. The lot gets hectic, especially when they're busy, and better signage would definitely help. We've found it's often easier to park on a nearby side street and walk over. Even when the line is long, the staff does a great job keeping things moving. One employee usually takes care of an entire group from start to finish, which helps keep the ordering process efficient. Everyone we've interacted with has always been friendly and helpful. Even with the cash-only policy, limited seating, and hectic parking, Van Dyk's is still one of our family's favorite summer traditions. The homemade ice cream keeps us coming back year after year, and hopefully next time they'll have my favorite ice cream, Bailey's Cream, in stock.

After we were seated, we were served warm, crusty bread, which set the tone for an amazing dining experience.
