IT'S MY 2000th REVIEW! And I'm happy that it goes to Fattal's Syrian Bakery! I had Fattal's bookmarked for a while. It caught my eye because I had never been to a Syrian Bakery before. But it's SO much more than that. We stopped by on a Saturday at around 3:30 after visiting the Paterson Great Falls, so we decided to check this place out since we were already in the area. I am so glad that we did. It definitely was not what I was expecting. I thought it would just be a small bakery selling some sweets and freshly baked breads. But in actuality, it was like a little Middle East. I felt like I was instantly transported back to the UAE. In the front is a supermarket selling produce, meats, dried goods, frozen foods, snacks, and drinks from various Middle Eastern cultures - and the prices are very reasonable too. In the back is a mini food court where they sell entrees, gyros, freshly baked lahmacun and manakeesh, and lots of sweets. Even though we had already eaten, we couldn't resist getting a gyro. The meat was a little bit dry, I think because it was already sliced and waiting at the bottom of the pit. I'll try the chicken next time and definitely the lahmacun. If you swing a left from the food court, there's a whole operation with a machine making fresh pita, which was just mesmerizing. We ended up getting two packs (za'atar and poppy seed/onion) and it was so good. I can see why it's so busy here. They have everything. There's even a stall selling gold! I'll need to make a return trip soon to get some more pita. So happy I found this place!

This bakery had a complete makeover and became an even better market that I could imagine! Yes, this is a market that offers a wide range of things: jewelry, produce, packaged/canned items, meat and butcher shop, sweets and pastries, hot food items including one of the best shawarma meats I've had in a long time, AND fresh made pita bread!!! I would come to Paterson to shop at different stores for all my needs, but today's experience made it soooo easy for me to get all that I needed in a one stop shop. And, when I shop I get HUNGRY! What better way to feed your hunger than fresh shawarma sandwiches, brick oven pies and pastries. Nice way to reward yourself after a hard day's work of shopping lol.

This place just gets better. I've been a customer for over 25 years, when it was a smaller general store, and the recent expansion to a full supermarket. You can't beat the high quality extra virgin olive oil in glass gallons for around $25 - IMO closer to Italian olive oil than the blends sold at some other more well-known markets. And then there's the bakery, fresh pita bread daily of all sizes and varieties. The best falafel I've ever had at their food counter, as well as fragrant stuffed grape leaves stuffed with ground lamb and seasoned with allspice, great daily specials. They recently also built a dining room for those wanting to eat on the premises. Lovely, warm and kind staff. Great prices for items they charge almost double for in chain supermarkets - bread, olives, fresh produce, dairy products.

Has all your needs.. from bakery to grill to fresh meat to sweets. This store will make you feel at home. Also carry produce and fresh pita bread daily.

Fattal's Syrian Bakery, which has grown into a large, full-service Middle Eastern market.

We ordered a whole range of things including chicken kebab, chicken gyro, tahini cauliflower,…read morelabneh, and hummus. Everything was delicious, but I'll leave the food writing to the Yelpers with more sophisticated palates than I. (Actually, I take that back--the fresh-baked pita was amazing and I would eat it with/for every meal if I could.) The real reason I wanted to leave a review the service, which went above and beyond. Let me start by saying that Al Basha takeout has a wonderfully efficient order-number-based system for managing the hundreds of orders they get on a daily basis. But if, say, the person who placed the order sent you to pick up the food with the wrong order number, you're going to struggle, and that's not the restaurant's fault. With that prelude and without getting into the details, we'll just say there was a user error issue with my order that led to a mix-up and a very late pick-up. Everyone from the Al Basha staff with whom I interacted could not have handled it any better. They were very apologetic, not because they did anything wrong (to be clear, they didn't), but because they were disappointed our meal hadn't gone well and wanted to fix that. The top priority of the manager with whom I dealt was making sure that my wife--it was Mothers' Day--got the best meal possible, and made sure to send me home with fresh bread and a treat for the moms. It was true hospitality, and greatly appreciated. TLDR version: great food, excellent service, out-of-this-world pita, and make darned sure you have the right order number.

The chicken kebab was dry and the shawarma was a bit too sour for my liking (not sure if they squeezed lemon on it or something). The kofta was okay but nothing spectacular. The filet mignon, was a major let down. My server didn't ask how we'd like it cooked, which is medium rare for my family. It came back well done. He said everyone usually prefers it to be well done, but I think that's a mistake that shouldn't be made and preference should always be asked, especially with steak. We asked for it to be swapped, and it still came back well done. When we let them know again, they brought it back a little on the rare side, which is fine for my family, but had it been another family, not so sure. I'm sure they have hundreds of orders for the char grilled meets, so I'm a little confused on why the technique has not already been established My favorite dish had to be the makanik - which is pan seared lamb sausages finished with sweet and tangy pomegranate molasses. I usually don't like lamb because of the gamey flavor but these sausages didn't have that. I didn't taste much of the pomegranate molasses. The arugula & beet salad would've been good if the pomegranate molasses vinaigrette was less sweet. The stuffed grape leaves were also a bit too sour. The lemon was just taking over the entire flavor profile. I didn't really taste the tomato or parsley. The falafel platter was good but nothing different than other falafels that I've had. The mint lemonade was so refreshing. Almost everyone in the restaurant had one and I understand why. The mint is not overpowering I had high expectations because I've seen this place on instagram but I'm afraid they were not met. Service was good, but the food definitely needs some work. There's valet parking, which i recommend because it's hard to find street parking

The quzi is lamb shank with rice and comes with either bean or okra soup. I liked the okra soup better since it had some acidity from the tomatoes. The lamb shank was very tender but I wish it came with some sauce or lemon. The rice is a bit sweet due to the rasins. As I entered the restaurant, I was impressed with the attractive interior and even more so impressed with their viral coffee bar. With so many flavors to choose ranging from pistachio to coconut cloud, I decided to choose the strawberry matcha latte (and it was hard to make a decision). When server Ana placed this iced beverage in front of me, it was love at first sip. The appearance alone instantly caught my eye. Its red, white, and green colors are a perfect fit on a hot summer day. Unfortunately, I had to stir this drink for maximum flavor which altered the appearance; thankfully, I took the photo shot before I started stirring. The ice cubes in this drink made it difficult to stir with the plastic straw, but I was offered a spoon. Although I felt there was a tad bit too much ice in this drink, the combination of strawberry puree, milk, and premium matcha was very refreshing. For an up charge, I added strawberry whipped foam to enhance the flavor even more. When I next return to explore their other signature lattes, I will remember to request less ice which will simply the stirring. #yasmeenmediterranean #yasmeencresskill #strawberrymatchalatte

The place had a decent amount of customers for a weekday. We sat in the front dining area where there was a large TV, good for watching the game (in our case, the world cup). The place was clean and server was friendly. We ordered 3 lunch specials that included the fattoush (house salad), mouhamarra, labneh, shish tawook (grilled chicken with rice pilaf), kufta kebab, and mint lemonade. Honestly for food, my average rating for everything would be closer to 3.5/5. The pita bread that came with the table was room temp and served in a plastic bag. I would have liked it to be at least warmed up a little before being brought out. The sides and dips were average. They lacked flavor and depth in my opinion- the labneh was simply plain, sour yogurt without any other flavor. The mouhamarrah was also average, it was a bit spicy and that was about it. Standouts from our table that were very well executed were the lentil soup, shish tawook, and yasmeen fries. The lentil soup came out steaming hot, and was very nicely seasoned. I liked that it came with crispy pieces to add texture. The shish tawook surprised me as it didnt look super special, but it was actually very good! The chicken was juicy, fell apart easily, and had that nice grill flavor. It went well with the rice and vegetables. The yasmeen fries were hot and crispy, the garlic seasoning was a very nice touch. I would've liked if my mint lemonade had more mint flavor in it but perhaps that was my bad for not ordering the slush version. The portions were pretty generous, 19.95 is a fair price for all the food we received. Overall, we had a nice experience and am glad we got to try the place out.
