this place is definitely a hidden gem in town. The ice cream is super creamy, not icy at all, and the flavors taste fresh -- you can tell it's good quality. Service was amazing read more

This is a little hole in the wall ice cream spot tucked away in Paterson that would be easy to miss. Doesn't look like much from the outside but the ice cream is good. Tried the banana pudding ice cream and got a sundae made with peanut butter swirl ice cream and hot fudge. The banana pudding ice cream was very good. The peanut butter swirl was one of the best I've had. It was a very good sundae. The price wasn't bad and the kids behind the counter were helpful and polite. I will definitely be back to try the other flavors they offer. As I said it's easy to miss but worth the drive to give it a try. read more

After devouring some great pizza at Taormina's in Paterson, Adam Ginnotti, Dave Cavaliere, and I headed over to another Paterson staple for dessert; Guernsey Crest Ice Cream Co.. If you've never been to Guernsey's you might initially be put off by this little, hole in the wall, weathered, and beat up looking mom and pop shop. Don't be fooled, you're not going to find better tasting ice cream anywhere. Guernsey Crest has been around since 1927, offering home-made ice cream with flavors that should tempt anyone's taste (yep, almost 100 years!). Nostalgic, would be an understatement. I had a Pistachio-Cashew cone. WOW! Fantastic, and with a super generous amount of ice cream. Honestly, as tasty and creamy as any ice cream I've ever had. If you're an ice cream afficanido you have to hit this place up. Great stop. Since we were in Paterson, we stopped off to visit friend Bob Adamo at his place of business; Sachs & Zitcer Plumbing & Heating Supplies. You may know Bob as the Predident of the Morris County Order Sons of Italy In America - Lodge 2561. Fun day in Paterson. 02/09/2024 read more

Picked up some ice cream at Guernsey Crest Ice Cream Co on a Friday night. It's a small shop with a few parking spots in front, and it looks like it's been around forever. I like them specifically because they are one of the few places that serve grape nut ice cream. Their ice cream is very soft, and they sell half gallons to go for super cheap. If ya wanna give grape nut ice cream a shot, Guernsey's the place to do it. read more

Home made ice cream what more can you ask for...the place has been open for a very long time..there's always a line on the weekends

This place is soooo charming!!! And the kids always working there are too!! It's got this down-the - shore mom n pop shop Summer feeling all year round!! Small and quaint - yet clean , organized, synchronized collaborative efforts by a well staffed creamery. Ahh , yes- CASH ONLY!! - indicative of its long lasting success!! I moved to Paterson- what seems to be a Berry long time ago - and this IS my first post regarding Guernsey- I do not recall how I found this place- but I am super glad I did!! As an ice cream "unofficial" taster ; I can promise you the integrity of their ice cream will Never disappoint. Wholesomeness !!! Collaboratively, I have tried strawberry cheesecake, chocolate, cake batter, pistachio, coconut, cherry vanilla, sorbets, vanilla- something with peanut butter (can't recall name ) - oooh the pistachio also has cashews !! - I've tasted about 15-20 other flavors- never wrote names down or took pictures of the menu. Also, very very well priced!! I will take more pics next time ( probably later today) lol!! Happy ice cream cone day!! (Everyday!! ) See my niece enjoy two of her favorites- as she conveniently lives 2 blocks from the parlor!! read more

This has been the oldest ice cream factory in the city, now they have many different flavors but be prepared to pay cash only, I wish they have the credit card/debit card option cause it's much better for the store in general, too much cash handling can be a problem at ice cream places, the shop itself should be expanded though.. read more

Still the best ice cream pit stop ever! We visited this place with our god daughter a few days before she started her military career to service this country. Half-way through the order, she changed her mind from just "Strawberry" to "Strawberry and Chocolate" ice cream on her cone. The young man behind the counter said, its all good and he gave a scoop of each flavor which was exactly what she wanted. The rest of the family also enjoyed the various homemade flavors of GrapeNut and Espresso and Strawberry Cheesecake and Banana. All very tasty! Thank you ice cream staff for the quick and friendly service! WE hope to be back again! read more

I have not been there since I was a small child. I took my daughter there for a treat. They have the best homemade ice cream. I had the butter pecan and it was delicious. The staff are young kids but respectful and very attentive. My daughter had the rainbow sherbet she said it was so good she wants to go back again. The location is in the cut, they changed the inside to a modern look, but the outside still has the same nostalgic sign that I remember. Check them out, you will not be disappointed. There is a big difference between homemade and store bought ice cream. This is the real deal. We will be back. read more

I was delighted to "Learnsey" that they "Churnsey" their own ice cream. If you eat enough of it then you "Earnsey" yourself a big ice cream inflated tummy. But it's worth it. I "Yearnsey" to go back here, daily. Don't make out with any of the people standing in line because you may end up with a rash that "Burnsey" and never goes away. I was surprised at how much I loved Guernsey Crest Ice Cream. For some reason I thought it would be Jamaican Ice Cream (like York Castle outside DC in the Maryland burbs), and I have no idea why. It wasn't, it's all-American, but what sets it apart and makes it some of the better ice cream I've tasted, is how rich in milk and fat it is. If you're gonna get ice cream, you may as well go all out and get the one with the best milk and fat contents (i.e. the worst, i.e. the most), because they taste the best, by virtue of being the worst for you. I honestly think that the higher milk-content, fat-content ice creams taste best. Antoinette's in Buffalo area taught me that. In any case, Guernsey Crest is fantastic. Yes they are behind bullet-proof glass on a back street in a tough neighborhood in Paterson. But who really gives two craps. Or even three of four craps. The ice cream is magnificent and decently priced. Come and get it. When you're ready. Love, Selena. read more

Craving some delicious homemade ice cream I would 100% recommend this little hole in the wall. Amazing quality, everything is made fresh! Only downside it's CASH ONLY, so make sure you have cash. They have so many flavors and you can tell the ice cream is not processed. I have been coming here for years and am never disappointed. Give it try definitely worth a shot! A cool little ice cream spot in Paterson New Jersey. A lot of locals go to this place. As I was there, locals were coming in and out on a hot sunny day. Homemade ice cream! Had to try this place out. You grab your dessert and take it to go.. either eat in the car or take it home if you're close by The small is huge but the next size up is a large ... you get two flavors in the small! We tried- cherry vanilla and amaretto chip in one and cookie dough and chocolate in the other. My favorite would be cookie dough and amaretto chip comes in second! Ill definitely come by to try a sundae next time! read more

Decided to stop in for a quick cone since I was at the home depot nearby. It was empty in there bc it was like 20 degrees outside. It's an in and out place meaning you order, get your ice cream and get out the way. The banana pudding ice cream was so good and they give you a huge amount for it being a small. The cone was stale tho so that's why I took one star off. I will be back to try the other flavors tho! read more

This place is a gem Honestly, my new favorite ice cream place. The ice cream is so creamy and delicious. The portions are huge and the best part is that it costs half as much as other places. The staff is quick and kind. I love trying new flavors everytime, but I just love banana flavored things so anything with banana I get. This review is short and sweet because to be honest, there's really no better place. read more

Guernsey Crest - Banana and chocolate on a waffle cone! Such large portions!! yummmm - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Paterson, New Jersey

This is seriously the best ice cream at the best prices in New Jersey. It's not so well known, which is why I'm hesitant to give it a five star rating on Yelp, and isn't super easy to find, unless you know exactly what you're looking for (or look for a nondescript building with a line out the door). Their prices are phenomenal and the sizes are HUGE. I've always gotten the Grape Nut ice cream, after being intrigued from other Yelp reviews. It is unreal - hard to explain, but it's totally worth trying out. If you find a flavor that you love (which seriously shouldn't be hard), you get half pints, pints, and quarts to go, that are STUFFED with ice cream. The service is also quick and really polite/efficient. Worth a trip - it's better than Gelotti's in all aspects - ice cream, service, and price! read more

Guernsey Crest - A size small Grape Nut - massive portions. - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Paterson, New Jersey

Hidden gem! I have been going to this ice cream place since I was 6 years old and it has never disappointed. The prices are very reasonable and they serve you big portions for money's worth. The staff is very attentive, the place is clean, and they are swift. I ordered one scoop of ice cream and it took me like 25 min to finish, but it was the best scoop of ice cream I've had all year!! My friend ordered a chocolate sundae and it was also amazing, they do not skimp you out of the m&ms nor the chocolate fudge. There's plenty of parking and especially cause it's a stop and go type of place. This location is safe and close to major highways. Tip: they only take cash, so make sure you stop by the bank before hand. Honestly, can't wait to go back and have more delicious ice cream!! read more

Good ice cream! I wasn't blown away, but can definitely say Guernsey hit the spot when I was craving ice cream. The cookies and cream was super flavorful and they didn't skimp on the oreo pieces. My only complaint is that the ice cream was a bit hard for my preference...I had to wait for it to soften for about 5+ minutes so I could lick it rather than biting it with my teeth. And the sugar cone was also a tad bit stale. The delicious flavor helped me overlook those flaws and still enjoy my ice cream. I'd still prefer to drive a bit farther to Van Dyks in Ridgewood though. read more

Guernsey Crest - Cookies & Cream - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Paterson, New Jersey

This ice cream parlor is a city gem and my family has been patrons of it for decades. I always remember coming here as a child on a gorgeous day. The lines would be out of the door but no one complained because eventually you'd join the people eating outside and having a good time before driving off. The ice cream is homemade so it's always fresh, creamy and full of flavor with every spoon. If you are watching your weight, be careful since the serving size is massive. You'll ask for less but find yourself on line again for more. My top flavors are the chocolate chip cookie dough, rum raisin, grape nut, and the classic vanilla. Their menu is extensive. If it's your first visit expect to be torn between the many options. Pints of ice cream can be purchased so if you really enjoyed a flavor, take one home. Don't let the location deter you from stopping by. The ice cream is worth the wait. Your taste buds will thank me later! read more

I've had two pregnancies since my last review, and needless to say, Guernsey Crest always satisfied the ice cream cravings! COVID has hit everyone very hard, but the deliciousness and richness of their ice cream never changed. I'm positive the young men working the counter dreaded seeing me and my huge ridiculous orders....although they never said anything and always greeted me with a smile hahaha. This is a cash only store, but it is worth every penny. The vanilla malted milkshakes are amazing! read more

Great ice cream and quick service. Just wish they had a place to sit and enjoy the ice cream.

Awesome ice cream in a quirky location that I personally think is worth the detour. We slipped in at 8:45 just in time as the lights went out and doors were locked - they close at 9 but trust me, no one was getting in past 8:50! This was my second visit to Guernsey Crest and both visits were rewarded with velvety ice cream and a vast selection of flavors. Last time I had peach and pistachio and this time amaretto chip and grape nut. Yum yum yummmmm. Huge portions and unbeatable prices. Don't expect an amazing view unless you're into warehouse architecture but do expect awesome ice cream. As a side note, one of my dining companions commented that Guernsey is the #2 ice cream spot in Paterson behind Gelotti but we all agreed Guernsey takes the top spot for us! read more

Believe it or not, I can remember visiting Guernsey Crest (small gem) as a little girl (8 years old) with my parents and grandparents on Sunday afternoon after church. Of course their was a mob of people waiting outside and that same mob is still present to this day especially on Saturday's and Sunday's. My parents would order butter pecan or lemon (gallon) and for myself vanilla ice cream with sprinkles and it was only $1.00... I didn't like sharing then and I still don't like sharing now....hahaha For many years their cones were $1.00 for a double scoop..then it was $1.25 ...$1.50...$2.00 slowly crept up...until hmm maybe like three years ago they changed their prices $2.75 which is still great. I'm not complaining you can't get these prices at Cold Stone, Baskin Robbins, and/or Dairy Queen. These days I always order butter pecan and sometimes I order a sundae with vanilla ice cream, wet walnuts, and whipped cream... The cost was $3.75 back in the day but now I think it costs $5.50 and the portions are huge you could share but of course I never share....Delicious.... Tips... CASH ONLY.... P.S I always return.. read more

Must review of this establishment is based on a visit a few months back. This place is a hidden gem, a bit hard to find, it'snot in the best area but it offers real deal ice cream flavors for enthusiasts. I cannot rate the ice cream as I had to cancel my order. I ordered then watched about 5-6 teenagers working in the back joking around with their masks on their chins, snacking, scooping ice cream and filling pints. None washed their hands before they started touching the cones. Even when I asked for my money back and the manager yelled at them to put on their masks, not all did so. So bummed. read more

This is one of the strangest ice cream places I've yet to visit. Tucked off of a side street in Paterson, with nothing but a small hanging ice cream sign to indicate what the hell is going on. It looks like a converted office building or bank, with large glass windows that separate the cashiers from the public, as if ice cream laced with gold lives behind the walls. Yet, for a place that is so protective of their ice cream, Guernsey Crest also offers the largest sizes I've encountered. When we asked for smalls, the cashier picked up a random cup and asked us if it was alright. "Uhh, I don't know? Is that your small? If it is, yes. If it isn't, then no?" Am I supposed to tell you how much goes into a small? Just before we placed our order, a customer ordered a quart of ice cream. Heaps of ice cream were promptly packed down into a large Chinese take-out box. No doubt, this a quirky, off-the-cuff ice cream shop. Here's my breakdown (scores are out of 10, 10 being best): Creativity: 5 Nothing to write home about here. Standard flavors, with a few Seasonal specials that I didn't quite understand, like Rocky Road and Banana Oreo. Interesting flavors definitely come from the influence of local hispanic community, such as Lucuma and Passionfruit (kicking myself for not trying the Lucuma, but I'll probably be going back, so OH WELL). Taste: 8 As always, I ordered a scoop of the most intriguing flavor I could find. In this case, it was Grape Nut (yes, the cereal). Grape Nut was phenomenal. Definitely difficult to describe, as the flavor was at once delicate and distinct. Each flavor was light on the palette, with just enough "oomph" to find yourself longing for that next spoonful. Texture: 8 The texture here is really what blew me away. It was almost like a mix of ice milk and ice cream, though I realize that makes very little practical sense. A miraculous trifecta of air, cream and density. Atmosphere: 3 Aforementioned, this place isn't much more than a parking lot. There are a few benches outside for enjoying an ice cream without a view. But I didn't come here to see pretty things. Overall: 6 If you're in the area, it's worth the trip. I know many people won't give this place a chance, solely based on location, but it's definitely quality ice cream. I found it better than Gelotti, even though Gelotti is undoubtedly in a "better part of town." Maybe it's best kept a secret. :) read more

Although Guernsey Crest has great tasting ice cream the overall atmosphere/experience of buying ice cream there is horrible. Between the panhandler in front of the store, long and unorganized lines, poor decor and impolite young workers (please give them a work shirt or some type of uniform), my favorite hometown childhood ice cream store is a disappointment. I'll drive the extra miles to Applegate Farms or Gelotti's for just as good ice cream just to have a better overall experience. read more
