The flavors were soo creative and had a novel taste, but for some reason the Gooey Caramel Cake was melty? I tried other samples, which were properly refrigerated and had a solid consistency, but the caramel cake was leaning more toward lukewarm. Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed. The person behind the counter was on the phone the entire time and honestly not really paying attention to us. The ice cream looked like it had been sitting out for awhile, and they had run out of several flavors, like mango and pistachio. And the bubble waffle machine was broken. There were some unique flavors of ice cream such as strawberry lychee and fruit blossom (guava orange passion fruit), but they tasted a little weird - like maybe these fruits were just not supposed to go together. On a Saturday evening, we ventured in for a sweet treat and it was thankfully pretty quiet. They have a good selection of different flavors like guava cheesecake, black sesame and various teas. We enjoyed the saffron kulfi (almond, pistachio, cardamom) and cookies and cream (blue tinted which didn't seem necessary). The server gave us a nice big scoop for $5.99. In addition to ice cream cakes, they sell signature sundae type things that you can customize and likely friendly to the camera but not to your wallet. Maroons is the former surreal creamery location in Ridgewood and have to say it did not disappoint when we went. There was a bit of a line to order as the two girls in front of us were asking to try every flavor and you could even tell the staff helping them was getting frustrated. I would recommend a limit to how many flavors you can try and posted signage. I shouted over them asking if we could order because there was a long line and those girls were just being extremely rude and difficult to the staff and other customers waiting. Have to say the flavors at maroons are very impressive whether you get soft serve or hard ice cream you will not be disappointed. We got the pistachio and butter pecan. You can tell the genuine homemade ice cream consistency by the ice cream and most if not all flavors are gluten free and have no food coloring which is so hard to find nowadays. It definitely gets crazy on weekends now that the warmer weather is out and the portions a bit oversized but you will love whatever you end up ordering! Was planning on asking if we could combine flavors as was the plan and she said no we don't do that after filling the cup with soft serve. Went to Maroons Creamery for some late ice cream on a weeknight. It's located in what was formerly the Surreal Creamery, and it's still pretty big for an ice cream spot. There is lots of seating. The staff offers free samples of any of their flavors so you can try before you buy. Many of them are Asian inspired, like ube and kulfi. I was in the Ridgewood area around 9PM and I was craving some ice cream. Van Dyk's would normally be my go-to in the neighborhood but they were closed. Yelp led me to Maroons. Stopped here for ice cream before seeing the fireworks on Fourth of July because I heard it was a cute spot. Each of us got something different - hard ice cream & swirl. The flavors were underwhelming - at least for the ube & strawberry. One of the guys serving the ice cream had to redo one of the ice creams because the whole top 2nd scoop melted off and fell onto my husband's hand 3 seconds after he handed it to him. They let me place my order first, the girls at the cashier took my order and said she would call me when it was ready. I waited for about 10 minutes until the first group finished. Then, a new group that came after me was being served, and I didn't get any update. I asked if my order had been started, mentioning I was in a bit of a rush, but the cashier said no...she would start mine after finishing with the customers who came after me.
