Got a chance to stop by Kilwins after such a long time. The store has such amazing collection of chocolate items, ice creams and confectionery goods. The store has such nice vibes, gift wraps and baskets are nicely presented on shelves. We bought few things from here, couple of cup of ice creams, few cookies and a bag of chocolate caramel popcorn. Ice cream was good quality. Loved the popcorn. Ate them for several weeks. The girls at the counter were friendly. Helped us with checking out twice. A family member drove 25 minutes to my home with this surprise! To go vanilla ice cream and waffle cones from Kilwins. A cute chain candy shop that also sells ice cream! They have a ton of flavors, and they aren't what you'd expect. Georgia peach and strawberry were both very good. Grand Opening! Newest Chocolate and Ice Cream shop in town. The shop is really clean and cool. Long open space, with limited seating (about 2 tables that sits 2 each). They sell chocolates candies, homemade fudge, ice cream, and packaged candies. Lots of options for you to choose from. They do fudge tastings so be sure to ask for some samples. The fudge was really good-soft and creamy and not overpowering. Good stuff. I tried some ice cream scoops. They have a large wall of flavors and I was excited about it. The ice cream was just OK to me. Nothing spectacular-good flavors and creamy but just average to me. The pricing was not something I would call cheap so I expected better of the ice cream. It was a sunny Saturday in April when I happened upon Kilwins. I had heard of Kilwins, but had never actually gone in. My sister told me she hadn't tried it either, so I decided to treat her. The store is quite large, with a ton of handcrafted treats on display in the glass cases. Everything looks clean, and the desserts looked delicious. The staff was very friendly and not pushy at all, even though I was contemplating satisfying my sweet tooth elsewhere. It's pretty expensive. But it is in downtown Ridgewood, and it is very high quality. I picked up some chocolate covered Oreos, a chocolate covered rice krispie, and some chocolate covered s'mores. The chocolate covered Oreos were awesome, but it's kinda hard to mess that up. The chocolate covered rice krispie was not too sweet, which was also good. But the s'mores were a bit disappointing, and that was the item I was most excited about. Before buying it, I made sure they used marshmallow fluff, since regular marshmallow would've been a let down. It looked really good, covered completely with milk chocolate and drizzled with white chocolate. But it barely had any marshmallow fluff. I guess I was expecting it to be like a very high quality Moon Pie. (If you guys can make some of these, that would be awesome. Just give me at least a quarter inch layer of fluff per s'more, I'll drop by real quick lol) Good for an occasional treat, if you're really into chocolate. read more

This is a high quality ice cream spot. It has lots of other things too -- chocolates, chocolate bars (including a very nice 85% bar), fudge, candied apples, candy- or fudge-coated festive oreos (e.g., blue-dipped Hannukah oreos) -- but the ice cream is the thing, here, if you ask me. Best thing about the ice cream: they have more than the usual flavors. The selection isn't vast (maybe 16 flavors) but it's quality. For example: banana pie -- like cookies & cream, but with banana ice cream instead of vanilla; double peanut butter pie -- peanut butter ice cream with gooey peanut butter. Other things about the ice cream: - They weigh it. Not that ice cream shops in the USA generally underserve their customers, when it comes to quantity, but here they actually weigh the ice cream to make sure you get a specific amount. - If you get multiple flavors, they ask which you want on top. I don't actually care about the above two things, but they do suggest the folks here are a crack team of ice cream operatives. I see more of this place in my future. read more

I was sad to see some of these reviews after going to this establishment. We bought ice cream with sprinkles and ate at the outside seating. It was uneventful. No issues with staff. Ice cream was ok, nothing spectacular. If I were in the neighborhood, I might try the chocolate covered pretzels. They have a nice variety of sweet treats. Great gift when attending a dinner party. I don't know how good they taste. I can only comment on the ice cream and it was just ok. I got the coconut ice cream with chocolate sprinkles. The servings are a little small but my thighs were thankful so I'm not really complaining. If it were 1960, the servings would have been as expected. Kilwins is a nice little spot in ridgewood to grab ice cream, hot chocolate, or individual chocolates in ridgewood. Dessert and coffee is a competitive thing in ridgewood because so many places in the town have it, Kilwins is not the first on my list when going but if i wanted a creamier and sweeter option and didn't mind spending a little more money this a good spot. The young lady working there was actually making the candies apples as we were waiting for our ice cream. This shop is also located on a strip of cute little town shops. Restaurants are somewhat of a crap shoot. You order food based on description, recommendation and reputation. Unless you have prior experience or have perused Yelp reviews you really don't know what you're getting until you get it. Confectioners are different. What you see is always what you get with rare exception. If the things behind the counter look good, there's a damn good chance they'll taste good as well. For this reason, I am somewhat taken aback by some of the reviewers who said Kilwins is over priced. It's not like you just ordered a $40 dish at a restaurant and it came out with three scallops and a string bean. Kilwins is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. If you want something sweet and cheap, buy a bag of M&Ms at 7-11. If you want cheap ice cream, you can get a McDonald's cone for under $1.00. Don't walk into a gourmet shop that hand crafts just about everything they sell and pays Ridgewood rent and expect not to pay for the privilege. Their candy, ice cream and just about everything else is absolutely delicious. How delicious, you may ask? They actually pump the aroma from their chocolate into the street which may take brilliance to a whole new level. The most amazing experience ever. Can't say enough. Both Mary and Philip are the sweetest and were absolutely a pleasure to work with. I had a Valentine's event on feb15th which needed to be rescheduled to the 22nd and I canceled the order last minute for 30 boxes of chocolate covered strawberries. They didn't charge me a single cent. I got the same order for the following week and they did an absolutely amazing job. The BEST CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES EVER!!!! The prices here are really expensive for what it is. If you are going to pay for good ice cream, you might as well go to Van Dyk's. (and less pricy) Chocolate looked good but most of it was for $25-$30 a pound. Had a waffle cone with toasted coconut and salted caramel ice cream (as well as a sample of fudge. I think it was 6:50 but it was 2 scoops (this was the minimum it seemed as it was listed as a solo scoop. The waffle cone had the perfect texture. I also I liked how the bottom of the waffle cone was closed so it would not drip. If I was to rate the cone, I'd give it a 3.4. The salted caramel was just OK. The vanilla ice cream was fine and the salted caramel had the proper texture and great flavor but there wasn't enough of it. It was more like ice cream combined with pieces of chocolate/caramel. I'd give that solo flavor a 2.5. The toasted coconut was amazing. Large pieces of delicious coconut. I'd go back for this solely if they start offering much smaller cones. Flavor gets a 4.2 If I got the toasted coconut solo, I'd probably have given this place a 4 but for now, It'll be a 3. read more

I spent Saturday morning enjoying "Easter in Ridgewood" at memorial Park with my kids. After all the fun and games, we decided to have some sweets at kilwin's. I purchased several caramel apples for ourselves and some as gifts. Long story short. To our astonishment, one of our caramel apples still had the produce barcode sticker on it. I brought the half eaten apple and chewed up sticker back to kilwin's only to be told by the employee that " the sticker is edible" and there is nothing he will do about it while offering zero apologies. The place is pretty pricey. But what can you expect; you're in ridgewood. You walk into this place and you'll see that it's well maintained and neat. There's a glass shelf with all their desserts inside. It's worth it to get one as they're really yummy. You don't go here for desserts though. You go here for the ice cream. Up on their counter you'll see a bunch of awards for their ice cream flavor and if you ask anyone around the area they'll rave about this place. My sociology teacher sure did and I decided to check it out. Boy, she wasn't wrong I purchase the award-winning flavor and it made my tastebuds ecstatic! This is by far my favorite candy store in North Jersey. Every chocolate or treat that I have had there is AMAZING. Majorly obsessed with their non pareils both in dark chocolate and vanilla chocolate. Recently, I have had their peanut butter and jelly chocolate and it was unreal. Huge fan of the dark chocolate filled with raspberry filling. So delicious! Whether you want ice cream, fudge, or chocolate your visit is going to be a absolute home run. I ordered a kids size and got this tiny little scoop of ice cream. I went to the register and was deliberately charged for an adults.. I questioned the cashier because nearly five dollars for the portion I received was obscene. The cashier replied "we give kids size scoops if you ask for a kids, but charge you for the adults because you're not 12 or younger." I asked the cashier to get me the full size and threw it out because it wasn't worth the calories. As for the ice creams taste.. It was just okay.. Nothing special and definitely not worth the price. Kilwins reminds me of the kinds of establishment in vacation towns, with fudge and ice cream flavours that pack a POW. I got a mint chocolate chip ice cream in a cone. The price was more than I'd like to pay on a regular basis - the flavour wasn't memorable and felt like I could buy a tub of ice cream from a shop at a much cheaper price. All the tops of each of the ice cream tubs were slightly melted and sloping downwards so they didn't look too appetizing at all, but hey, it was a hot day outside and the ice cream hit the spot. read more

Love this sweet shop! They have a ton of different candies and treats to choose from and the caramel apples are to die for! My favorite is the dark chocolate sea salt apple. My future father in law has a big sweet tooth and I always come here to buy him candy around the holidays and his birthday. The quality is top notch so yes, it can get expensive. I usually end up spending around 50$ for a box of candy for him. Yes it's pricey but they have so many specialty items that you can't find in your average drug store candy isle. The hot chocolate and marshmallows are also delicious! They always do a nice job around the holidays with seasonal items and make different mixed candy gift bags already wrapped. I got one for my fiancé for Christmas that had all different types of candies from chocolate covered Oreos to caramel popcorn. Friends of ours brought a sampling of sweets to a party, so I can't comment on the prices or store itself but WOW the candy is amazing. Trust me when I say you have to make a trip for the salted caramel/chocolate dipped Oreo alone- it's a perfect blend of salty and sweet. We also tried the chocolate covered Rice Krispie treats, chocolate covered pretzel rods, mint Oreos, and various types of fudge. Got the iced mocha and it definitely wasn't my favorite; the ice-to-drink ratio was quite high and it ended up being on the watery and bland side. The truffles are quite small but very delicious despite being overpriced. One iced mocha drink, one Irish cream truffle, two malt truffles and three small bonbons, and my bill came up to almost $18! Fudge is just alright, ice cream isn't very special, but the truffles are the winner here. read more

Sorry not sorry for this rating. This place puts their very own fudges and peanut butters (THAT ARE HOME MADE) into some of the ice cream flavors. It's decadent, absolutely effn decadent. The staff is always charming and they're open later than other ice cream places in the area. I would HIGHLY advise taking advantage of the ability to taste their flavors. They're not your run of the mil ice cream flavors. Their rocky road or moose tracks aren't exactly "classic" they're better! Only qualm I have is that they don't offer a kiddie size. Sometimes I just want a small 1 scoop cup, but they have 1 cup size and you can get small or large (essentially more scoops). The smallest is still a substantial size so that's a major PLUS for ice cream lovers; I just prefer a small serving of ice cream as I'm not a big sweet tooth person. Anyway, I take it home and save it for later. Clearly it's not a huge complaint! haha! Go check them out! I'm a big Kilwin's fan! BRAVO.
