This is a cute restaurant, chic decor. Service is attentive. Prices are okay, a little on the high side for some things. They serve mocktail margaritas for $10 and we went to the liquor store next door for tequila and then poured it into the drinks ourselves. They even give you shot glasses to pour it into. The mocktail is pretty sour though and not very flavorful, mine was strawberry basil but didn't really taste like strawberry or basil. Small seating area, backs of chairs kept bumping into each other and it's hard to walk to your seat when the place is busy. Also the tables are uneven. One table was slanting to the side a lot. The guacamole and the calamari apps were great. Big portions and delicious. Guac was very fresh and well seasoned, the calamari I loved how big the pieces were, super tender and had a spicy sauce with it that had sautéed almonds which added a nice crunch. And lots of shishito peppers on top. The entrees were average. They got the temperature wrong for my hanger steak. It was still tender and juicy but I didn't like the green sauce on it. Which was spicy and vinegary. The potatoes added nothing to the dish in terms of flavor or texture, I barely ate them. The tomato and avocado salad was good, light and tasty. They served it with corn tortillas but the tortillas are very gooey and bland. My husband liked his scallop tacos a lot. I tried one of his mushroom tacos and didn't like it. Again lots of vinegar, and also it wasn't all mushrooms it had peppers and leeks in it. The desserts were pricey at $12 and pretty average. Nothing special. The churros were dry. Cozy little spot. They take walk ins but I recommend making a reservation since it's small. Really good guacamole. I did ask server for vegetables instead of chips but he never brought them so I just ate it plain. Tuna tostada was very flavorful with slight hint of jalapenos. The scallop taco was a first and it was outstanding! The special guacamole appetizer special was again very unique and delicious!!! The tortilla chips crispy, thick & served hot!! I really liked the burrito too but next time I'll get the pork chop. And the mocktails are also nice because it's byob so you mix in your own tequila. Go here for fancy Mexican, good guacamole, chips and the strawberry mock tail! Had 2 mushroom tacos and tried to add some salsa to jazz it up a bit but salsa was too spicy hot. Could have used cheese in these to improve the flavor. Had the yellowfin tuna app which tasted slightly fishy but otherwise was good. My water glass wasn't refilled so I stole a friends. The temperature was warm and then very cold so that impacted the ambiance and experience....They were nice enough to put candles in the bday cake but it was a photo-cake and a candle was placed right in the center of the head of the photo before we got a good pic. Personally i do not see why it's busy. i made a reservation a week prior, walked in and personally made it and asked for a specific , which i didn't get. Ambiance, truly needs an update. the place is small and they have sound absorbent panels but they don't work. the place was annoyingly loud. you couldn't hear the person across from you. The food, absolutely no flavor. started with guacamole of the week which was topped with crab meat, bland i had the grilled salmon, which didn't appear to be grilled. wasn't a seat mark on it. more like barely steamed. we had two sides tostones, which were so dry and hard you could barely eat, mexican rice-absolutely no flavor for dessert tres leche cake, flat and flavorless. our waiter Steve was very good. the only good thing about this place. this restaurant is filled with people that are there for these mock tails they make and they add the liquor they bring. this place is not worth it. you'd get a more flavorful meal at taco bell read more

4.5 stars When I discovered that Uno Mas was owned by some of my favorite Hoboken restauranteurs (owners of Grand Vin, Saku, and Green Rock), I was eager to give it a shot. The small dining room was cozy and welcoming, just like their gracious staff. The restaurant was also kid-friendly, which was great, as my dining companions had children. In fact, the kitchen even served the kids' menu items in silicone bowls! While the restaurant did not have a liquor license, they did have a variety of "Mock-aritas", which were made from scratch using fresh fruit and produce. Apparently, we could have brought our own liquor to infuse the beverages with, but we stuck to the alcohol-free versions. I did not want something super sweet or fruity, so I opted for the Jalapeno Mint flavor and fell completely in love with its blend of tart lime, refreshing mint, and spicy pepper. Plus, it was served in a margarita glass with a tajin-salted rim, giving the illusion of consuming the full boozy variety. We sipped on our glamourous mocktails while munching on some blue corn tortilla chips and guacamole. The chips were crunchy and well-salted, but were sadly served as a small portion in a tiny bowl. The Guacamole was chunky, fresh, and topped with diced cilantro, jalapenos, and red onions. The entrée menu included a bunch of interesting dishes and even a taco platter, which included your choice of any 3 taco varieties with a side of rice and beans for $26. Given that the tacos cost $8-$9 individually, it was a decent deal, so that was what most of us decided to order. The Pork Al Pastor version included achiote-marinated, shredded pork that was topped with roasted pineapple chunks, cilantro leaves, and diced onions. The sweetness of the fruit was a great complement to the smoke of the pork marinade. The Mushroom Carnitas taco was packed with slow-roasted, royal trumpet mushrooms, poblano peppers, and guacamole. It might have been messy, but it sure was delicious! Lastly, the Scallop one included a singular scallop that had been sliced in half, as well as fried brussels sprout leaves, and a cream corn puree. It was a blend of 3 of my favorite food items. All of the tacos were delicious, and I loved that their soft, corn shells appeared to have been homemade. We were all very impressed with the food and service at Uno Mas. However, we did feel that the portions were on the smaller side, as we left rather hungry. read more

The staff is always so attentive the food is excellent. Homeade guacamole and those addicting homemade chips are absolutely spectacular. I am giving this restaurant three stars as it is new and I am hoping it will use this review as constructive feedback to improve overall. First of all this restaurant is NOT child friendly. My opinion is take off the children's menu and just simply say "no we do not offer a kid's menu." The cups that they gave the kids were extremely heavy and glass. I was surprise that my children did not drop them. Also, for $12 I expect more than just 3 tiny chicken nuggets. My six year old is not big eater but was starving after the meal. Second, besides my meal which was good (the red snapper) none of the adults were happy with their meal. The short rib enchilada were a disappointment as they seemed more like tacos than enchiladas. Also just didn't taste fresh. Also a $30+ meal came with no sides and when we ordered the$8 sides of beans they were beyond tiny (too small to share). Went to Uno Mas last week after hearing many good things about it. The restaurant is BYOB. The restaurant is not "Tex-Mex", which I thought meant we would get some high quality eats, but unfortunately, it did not work out that way. It wasn't awful, but definitely not worth the $. We started with the Birria egg rolls, which comes with a dipping sauce that they called spicy. There was some flavor from the sauce, although it was not spicy. The egg rolls themselves were meh. My wife had the burger, which see said was average. I had the tenderloin. It was good, albeit a pretty small serving. This restaurant charges a ton for a small bowl of chops and salsa, which we skipped, when the rest of the world gives that for free, usually with unlimited refills. The service was mixed. We got a dirty glass, and they left the menus on the table even after the entrees were served, which took up a lot of space on the small table. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. The noise level was not as bad, the employees were friendlier, we were able to order an app prior to ordering dinner, and the crispy shrimp tacos were still good. You won't find tacos this good almost anywhere in New Jersey, and for that privilege you pay 8 to 9 dollars per taco. The guacamole is also excellent - for that privilege you pay $19. The tostones - not great, but for eight dollars they make sure to give you 4-5 slices so that you're not over eating. Make sure to get the salsa too. Yum! Unlike other places that give you salsa for free (stupidly), Uno Mas knows to charge almost 9 dollars for three little containers of salsa so that you can really appreciate the value . And at the end of the day, it doesn't hurt to know that you're supporting two white guys in their journey to explore authentic Mexican flavors. Travel is expensive, even in one's mind! read more

The positive: I comb through previous reviews of restaurants to identify the top dishes before I sit, in hopes of maximizing my overall dining experience. Ordering the envy plate is always my goal. Let's just say I was winning last night at Uno Mas when I was served my "Grilled Double Pork Chop." I'm a big pork chop fan and I'm the guy who orders the pork chop at the steak house. I have to say that this pork chop was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The accompanying salsa verde was killer too. Super juicy and tasteful. I started to enter savage mode when I was gnawing on the bone like a dog when my wife gave me the look. If I wasn't being eyeballed, I would have picked every morsel off that bone. It was that good... The mock-aritas were jam too. The majority of the table ordered several of the "Jalepeño-Mint" drinks and we added our own Casamigos (you need to BYO). There were a couple of "Watermelon Cucumber" and "Strawberry Basil" ones ordered as well and I only heard, "damn, this one's great too..." The constructive criticism: The table was in agreement that while the flavor of the "Octopus Al Pastor" was great, the cook on the meat was off. We all agreed that it would have been better had the chef seared it a little bit more. Adding a little crunchy texture would have elevated the dish. The blue chips and guac were pretty damn tasty, but I felt that the presentation of the guac could have been better, i.e., rather than throwing it onto a small white plate, put it in a small molcajete or at least a colorful bowl. Being in a bowl facilitates chip guac extraction. On the topic of dinnerware, personally, I feel that the introduction of more colorful plates & bowls would add to the overall visual taste of the food, especially when serving such a vibrant cuisine as Mexican. The add-ons: I saw some comments about the restaurant being loud. It did get loud at times due to laughter and storytelling...is this a bad thing?
