We decided to get delivery from this lovely place instead of eating in, which is what we usually do. I would much rather order from the actual restaurant instead of going thru those delivery apps. The restaurants take such a hit from those apps, for a small, independent restaurant, it must be horrible. In the mood for some this and that, we settled on a Cheese Quesadilla, Mixed Burrito, and Shrimp Soft Tacos. You can tell a great restaurant is in their groove when what you order is the exact same as you remember it. Great restaurants know the meaning of consistency. Candelaria has it down cold. It's just great every single time. Everything arrived, via their driver, hot and melty and perfect. Just cemented what we have known for years: La Candelaria knows how to do what they do. And we would much rather give a nice $10 tip to THEIR drivers. Support small businesses. read more

I was craving Mexican food, so I chose La Candelaria to try their sopes. The order I placed came with four pieces; I asked for one of each filling: carne asada, trompo, chicken, and chorizo. Two were enough to make a satisfying meal. I'll share the other two with my husband. Now, regarding the sopes themselves: I can honestly say that the quality was so authentic, it felt just like eating them in Mexico. The meat--both the beef and the pork--was delicious; they are topped with lettuce and either *queso fresco* or *queso panela*. On the side, the order also comes with a sautéed serrano pepper, limes, radishes, and nopales. Each order includes a green salsa and a red salsa; they were quite spicy--flavor-wise they were good, though a bit on the runny side. The price per order is excellent, and as I mentioned earlier, one order is enough to feed two people since the sopes are generously filled. This time, I ordered directly through the Yelp app (which redirects to Grubhub), and the delivery was very fast. Kudos to the team--I will definitely be ordering from this place again! It is 100% recommended. God bless you all. read more

La Candelaria 73 S. Washington Ave. Bergenfield, NJ 07621 Horchata Tortilla Chips with Salsa Sopes Fried Pork Burrito Pasta Di Mare Located along the Washington Avenue strip is a local restaurant that specializes in authentic Mexican cuisine. The colorful, lively atmosphere is impressive and adorned with lots of wall art; even the booths have attractive decorations. Horchata: It was hard to make a choice, but I decided to explore the horchata. This refreshing drink with a hint of cinnamon and vanilla hit the spot! Tortilla Chips with Salsa: Prior to the main course, I was chowing down on delicious tortilla chips with homemade salsa. If you enjoy tortilla chips, you are going to love what's next. Sopes: These open face corn tortillas have a crunchy bottom. Hidden underneath the sour cream and cilantro are proteins. A few of the meat options are Mexican sausage, steak, or pork. Don't be shy with the green sauce if you want an extra kick or squeeze some lemon if you prefer a bright, tangy flavor. Fried Pork Burrito: All of the toppings are packed into a 12-inch flour tortilla. This looks so beautiful I was in awe by its appearance alone. It is filled with fried pork, rice, beans, guacamole and all the other trimmings. Pasta Di Mare: As a bonus, this location also sells Italian dishes. Do you "see" all of this seafood? Check out the variety of marine life including calamari, mussels, clams, and shrimp over linguine. All of this classic marine life is served over linguine. Also included Is a side of garlic bread. If you want some extra flavor, feel free to dunk away. It was truly an authentic experience dining in this Mexican restaurant. #lacandelaria #bergenfieldnj #friedporkburrito #Sopes #horchata #pastadimare #TortillaChips #salsa #eats #foodreview #foodstagram #LocalSpot #njfoodie #mexicanfood #mexicancuisine #eats #localspots read more

Still pumping out solid Mexican food. Just crushed chicken enchiladas, a chicken quesadilla and some Al pastor tacos. Staff is still super fast and friendly. There's a few other Mexican restaurants in town but none can hold a Candelaria to this one! read more

This place is pretty mid. 6.25/10. Been here twice, only cuz my brother-in-laws recommended so strongly. If you're looking for flavorful fresh food made with care, you'll be disappointed. It's okay. It's not bad. Just okay. Honestly, I'd rather eat Chipotle. read more

Great soft shell tacos!!!! I prefer without the guacamole, not a big deal they can easily remove. Other foods on the menu also have great flavors, their spicey food on poiint. read more

The carne asada and chicken tacos are always delicious. I always order for pickup, and the wait is consistently 20 minutes or less. I've ordered numerous times, and the food is excellent every time. read more

I will give this place 2 stars. Both stars are for the guacamole. We waited an hour to get our food. With 2 kids. It was not pleasant. No one refilled our chips or checked on us until 40 minutes into our wait when they asked if had already ordered. But. The chips stayed empty. They don't sell alcohol so unless you bring your own drinks you are just sitting there waiting and hoping for more chips. The food was not special. The meat in the tacos and burrito was not well seasoned. It tasted plain. I kept hoping the wait would be worth it or the service. It wasn't. I won't be back. I doubt they care. read more

It was ok. The chicken quesadillas were very small and made out of the tortilla for tacos. Enchiladas Suiza were alright. The chicken didn't taste the best. They did give a good amount of chips and salsa. Maybe I'll try another item on the menu. read more

This place is a hidden gem in Bergenfield. A truly authentic Mexican restaurant with Mexican cooks, waiters, and people eating and drinking Coronas at the bar. this place is BYOB. most of the time there is Mexican music playing loud over the jute box but I don't mind. This ain't no chipotles z 100 crap. I've been here over 10 times and I finally have a chance to write a review. The service is top notch so they are always on top of drinks and needs. So far these are my favorite tacos in NJ. They offer 3 tacos for 7$ and they have about 8 different meats that you can put in them. I usually get the beef and pork tacos, but I switch it up every now and then. maybe chicken, beef tongue, chorizo, or brisket if I'm in the mood. the meat is always so tender and melts in your mouth. They are small street style tacos like you would get in Mexico, they are delicious. I always get them with everything which consists of guac, onions, cilantro, and hot sauce on the side. Very tasty and 3 will def fill you up. I sometimes get the soup of the day which is usually a goat, tripe, or beef soup that's always amazing. They also have an incredible Mexican breakfast, I've gotten the rancheros webbos. if you're in the area come support an authentic mom n pop Mexican restaurant. read more

Love this authentic Mexican restaurant. They closed for a little due to a fire, and my husband and I checked every week until they opened, and then of course made a date night to have dinner there as soon as it did. The seafood soup looks as good as it tastes, same with the seafood appetizer. I have never had a bad meal here, be it lunch, dinner, dine in or take out. The restaurant itself is spacious and byob. Service is polite and I'm always sad the meal is over when it's time to leave. Appropriate for family, date night, bigger groups and smaller groups. Affordable and delicious. All around great restaurant. read more

La Candelaria - Tacos de nopal - Mexican Near Me - Bergenfield, New Jersey

Disgusting service, appalling way to be treated. I will never eat here again and I will be telling all my friends and family the same thing. While this review will not put out them out of business I'm hoping it puts a few less $ in the owners pockets. Last night, 1/1/23 we ordered some tacos and fajitas because my girlfriend desired Mexican. She wanted extra Pico de Gallo so I ordered some. Yes, I'm a middle aged white guy and my pronunciation of said condiment may not have been as authentic as they're used to but I didn't expect the covered up laughter. After she had a little snicker and chuckle with her co-workers she returned to the phone and said, "that'll be ready in 20 mins". When I picked up the food I knew I wasn't imagining things because they again chuckled and I heard, "hombre" and "pico de gallo" and I was the only customer there. The food is ok, nothing great but if you desire Mexican food in Bergenfield and you've no other options, go ahead but there's better places in Bergen County with much better service. Marcella, you should be ashamed of yourself. read more

The food was great BUT when I placed my order for pick up they quoted me with a 4% discount with the assumption that I was going to pay cash. When I went to pay with a credit card that's when I found out that I had to pay cash to get the quoted price over the phone. The girl at the cashier told me it was the law. I never heard of such a law. This is not being 100% honest. They should disclose this over the phone. read more

The food here is fresh and authentic. Prices are very reasonable. BYO and very casual.

Super cute and bright decor, we were trying to go to a place next to here for cinco de mayo, but it was packed so we ended up here. Service is okay, they have a small staff and one of the girls didn't speak much English, so a little slow and food took a while to come out. We did make special requests though (they forgot one but we just ate it anyway) The food was delicious, my chicken enchilada with red sauce was super spicy and yummy. My boyfriend and sister enjoyed the chorizo tacos and beef quesadilla. Overall a very good experience. FYI: BYOB, no liquor license here read more

Hands doom the best chicken soup in Bergen co. If you feel a cold coming on run don't walk. It comes with vegetables and my best part lemon or lime to squeeze in with cilantro and onions to use at your discretion. Also tried their tacos and burritos all very good! Service is fast and attentive. read more

Solid authentic Mexican food on a busy street. Take outs can take a long time, but I think this is because they get busy. A little salty so I can't eat here as often as I like. The waitresses don't speak English as well as other establishments but to me it adds to the authenticity. read more

This was as bad as bad could get. We ordered to go. I ordered the Mediterranean Salad - the description says it has: Organic spring mix, romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, pistachios, kalamata olive Italian dressing. Mine had no cucumbers, no pistachios, 1 or 2 cherry tomatoes and that was it. Shame shame shame. Plus it had absolutely no flavor. The dressing was totally bland. I had shrimp with it. The shrimp were fine - nothing special, no seasoning on them either. My daughter ordered flautas. They were filled with mozzarella cheese. Again no flavoring. We asked for sour cream and no sour cream was there. We ordered chips and salsa - no chips and salsa. Not going to order from this place ever again. read more

This place is pretty, colorful furniture and the server was pleasant and friendly. The food was ok, but a bit too salty. Three nice little tacos for only 7 dollars served with guacamole. While I liked them they were missing the pico de Gallo. When I asked about it I was told that was extra. I was surprised since that always comes on a taco. I would have paid more if included but wasn't told until after it was served. Next time I will make sure to ask for them the way I like it and pay more. read more

Do not order delivery. Your food will get to you cold, torta all watery, quesadilla with cheese cold and hard. Plus if you call to find out if they can take the food back they say that they will get back at you and you get nothing in return.... the salsa for your chips is not real salsa it's ketchup with chunks of tomatoes. If you decide to try this place either pick it up or eat there. read more

Thursday nite dinner. Had the beef tacos and quesedilla. And had the Mexican soda. It was good. The food is like right from grandmas kitchen. The place is decent. You feel like you are in Mexico. The one star is for the pork tacos I got as take out orders. We went for eat in dinner. The place: Very cute decor. The ambiance: awful for one reason- the juke box. There were several families having dinner when a guy from the kichen wearing a baseball cap came out to the jukebox and put loud rap music on. A waitress cranked it up with a remote they had behind the counter and was dancing along. It really broke the mood of the place. Didn't fit with a Mexican restaurant, not that I expected Mariachis but it was waaay too loud and kids started crying. I don't blame the kids. So I told our waitress I wanted our orders (which hadn't come out yet) to go because I didn't want to listen to rap music. She must have mentioned that to the kitchen staff who must have thought my husband (who is Anglo looking) complained. When we got our orders home his "fajitas de carne asada" looked like boiled grey meat in water and his refried beans also were ful of water meanwhile 2 other orders were fine and unwatered. I can only think of this as a "screw you" from the kitchen. I wasn't rude or nasty. I tipped the waitress because the music had nothing to do with her and she shouldn't lose her money because of someone else but apparently gringo customers can be punished if they don't like the kitchen staff's choice of blaring music. If that guy was a staff member he is seriously is affecting the owner's business. He can listen to his choice of music on his own time. If he was the owner its a really awful way to treat customers and only hurts his own bottom line. I won't go back for fear of getting another sabotaged meal. read more
