The chicken was ground and besides the off-putting consistency, it had an odd taste. The ground beef tacos were just that; ground beef and no sauce. Dry, dry, dry. Also, I ordered sour cream on both tacos and there was the barest hint of sour cream on them. Save your money. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but dinner was poor tonight. read more

Staff was friendly overall, though there was a bit of a language barrier at times. Service was still welcoming. Parking is metered street parking and can be a bit limited during busy times since they do monitor the meters closely. Important note for anyone with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity: this is not a safe kitchen for strict gluten-free needs. Everything is cooked on a shared grill, including flour and corn tortillas, and there is cross-contact through shared frying oil used across items containing wheat. Because of this cross-contact, I got sick after eating here and won't be returning. For those without dietary restrictions, it may still be a solid casual taco spot, but it's not suitable for gluten-free diners. read more

I saw a Facebook ad promoting "8 Free Wings" with any purchase of an entree + drink and I was sold. Arrived a little after 1PM on a Friday, and I was the only one in the restaurant. The place is very clean and decorated nicely. Food: I ordered two items: I got the Al Pastor Guarache and the 8 piece Buffalo Wings. First off: reading other Yelp reviews, was I supposed to be served free chips + salsa while I was waiting for my food? That never happened. Minus point for that. In any case, here's the low-down on my order: a Guarache is "masa dough with smashed pinto beans, cotija cheese, and green sauce". I was suprised I coudn't find any photos of it here on Yelp, so I guess I'm the first. To be honest, it was very good! I have nothing to compare it to, but I do like that along with the al pastor pork, they added quite a bit of the pineapple to the top of the "guarache" which translates to "sandal" in Mexican. It's a similar shape. On to the wings: honestly, for a Mexican spot ---- they were spot-on wit the wings! They were fresh, crisp, and a tangy buffalo sauce. 8 pieces for free is quite a promotion. I'm surprised the place wasn't bustling, but then again it was a weekday. Hopefully on the weekends they get good business. Big props to Guadalupe for being helpful and for the service she provided! I was a bit hesitant to come here because I saw some "mixed reviews", but maybe because I was the only one --- things couldn't have gone better? Who knows! Let's taco 'bout it... Tacos CDMX is a Mexican taqueria in downtown Westwood. It's located on a busy main street with plenty of metered street parking and lots around the area. The interior is festive, vibrant, and colorful with hanging pinatas and luchador masks. There's a seating area with tables for small and large groups as well as stools at the open kitchen counter. It's a casual spot to have a quick meal, but it's not ideal for a date or celebration. The menu has all of your classic Mexican street food favorites like tacos (duh!), burritos, quesadillas, tortas, sopes, flautas, tostadas, nachos, etc. I ordered the Taco Tuesday deal (4 tacos for $10) and a small horchata ($3). You can only choose two kinds of meat for the tacos. Not a bad price for a lunch meal! Service was friendly and welcoming. My food was ready in 10-12 minutes. I decided to dine in and I was given complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were crunchy and salty, but weren't served hot. The salsa was watery - they both tasted like they were bought from the store and not made fresh. The horchata was a disappointment. It was very watered down. It lacked that smooth, milky texture. The rice and cinnamon flavors were diluted. On to the tacos... Each one comes with a soft corn tortilla, onions, cilantro, radish, cucumber, and lime. I ordered (2) al pastor and (2) carne asada. I'll start with the good. They gave me a generous portion of meat for all four tacos. When I say generous, I mean in the "meat is spilling off of the tortilla" kind of generous. The tortillas were warm, chewy, and tasted freshly made. Now for the bad. The meat was on the dry side. Nothing was tender, juicy, or flavorful. Carne asada and al pastor are known for their bold, savory, smoky, tangy, sweet, and complex flavor profiles. It all tasted bland. They had bottles of green and orange salsa sauces. The salsa verde was clumpy and watery, but I had no choice but to dump a bunch of it onto the meat because I needed some kind of flavor... some kind of spice... anything. Definitely not a memorable or authentic taqueria experience. I'm hesitant to return since there's so many other delicious taco spots in the area. If it wasnt for the woman at the counter with the attitude I may have given 3 stars but the food was ok. It was as if it took a lot for her to greet me and say hi. I ordered the 4 tacos for $15... there were about 4-5 choices and as I was making my selection she cut me off and said only 2 choices! I should've walked out at that. There were people eating at two tables and it was pretty much dead on a Saturday around 3pm. So I ordered 2 chicken and 2 al pastor. It needed seasoning especially the chicken and they were both kinda dry. The 2 sauces were watery but it helped a little to get some flavor. It was made to order. I'll never come back here again; her lack of courtesy and rudeness to a new customer is a big letdown. She might've been nice to the others eating there but this says a lot for a business. When you have a person manning the front counter and taking orders, they need to be nice. Just nice, I'm not saying bending over backwards to accommodate customers . Just a little courtesy goes a long way. It's located on a street where there are better options. Maybe my tacos would've tasted better if her behavior didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth. We stumbled upon Tacos CDMX by accident and gave it a try because of the great reviews. The interior had colorful decor, including piñatas and luchador masks. They had an indoor seating area, and the ambiance was very casual. I placed a takeout order for my whole family which included Tinga Tacos, Chicken Tacos, Pastor Tacos, Guacamole, Quesadilla, Tinga Empanada, and Horchata. Service was lukewarm but efficient, and the food only took about 20 minutes to come out. I may be biased after living in California for the last 3 years, but the food was just good, not great. The Chicken Tacos were a little bland, and we all enjoyed the Tinga Tacos a lot more. Both the Quesadilla and Tinga Empanada were very standard. I also didn't love the Horchata, which mostly tasted like milk without the cinnamon flavor. My favorite item was the Guacamole, which tasted super fresh and had the perfect consistency. Grabbed two tacos after work one day - one steak and one shrimp. Love how you can buy one and mix and match. I thought both was great and portions of steak was good and tender. I made modifications to my order in the app - no onions and add guacamole and it was made to my liking. Doubled tortillas too. With a 20% tip it was $10... good price for a lunch or lite dinner. I found this place because of yelp. It's nice inside, really big and plenty of space for my kids to run around without annoying everyone. The guy at the counter was super nice and helpful when taking our order. The food came quick and was presented really nicely. The food. The food. The food. It was crazy. I ate myself sick knowing full well the whole time I was doing it. I couldn't stop. The chips are clearly made in house and were super fresh. So good we ordered nachos just to have more. We got chicken fingers and a chicken quesadilla for our kids - both awesome - and then a carnitas burrito which we ordered without rice (they gave us lettuce and tomatoes instead). It was such an excellent burrito I could have eaten a second one. It is a nice place with one section for takeout and the other half with seating. I liked how they use piñatas and luchadores masks for decor. The staff was welcoming and friendly. As for the food, I thought it was delicious, came in good-sized portions, and was affordable. We ordered the carnitas burrito bowl, suadero burrito bowl, and suadero burrito. Everything was freshly made. They also served some homemade tortilla chips with salsa. Also, they don't have tap water but rather bottled water. Menudo on Friday and Saturday along with esquites, fresas (strawberries) con crema and manzanas (apple) con crema! Nice menu! We sat a table inside and were served by a waitress. A basket of chips with salsa fresca was promptly brought to the table along with additional squeeze bottles of green and red salsa, all of which were fresh and tasty. I ordered the pastor tacos (4 per order for $15), which were served "street style" on two medium-size tortillas packed with meat, cilantro and onion with radish, cucumber, lime and grilled spring onion on the side. Muy delicioso! My daughter had a torta with tripa (tripe) which she said was excellent, and my wife had tinga (shredded chicken in red sauce) tacos plus elote. Both also had the horchata, which had a hint of pineapple flavor that they enjoyed. Service was prompt and friendly. The overall bill was quite reasonable for a tasty filling meal. Love what they've done with the space - the white tile with bright crimson details and humorous sayings in Spanish painted on the walls give the place a bright, welcoming feel that's very much like taking a trip to sunny Mexico City deep in the heart of Northern Joisy. I've eaten at Tacos CDMX many times now and have had a good experience. I don't eat meat so my experience has solely been with their shrimp offerings, shrimp tacos and the shrimp torta. The shrimp are well seasoned, large and delicious. The Torta is really the go to meal, the bread is perfect and the quantity of shrimp and other toppings is spot on. They both were flavor packed even before the salsa. Served super hot, no spicy but temperature which I really enjoyed. We also had the guacamole and chips. The chips were very nice, crispy and crunchy. The guacamole was fresh but a bit more sour than what I am used to. I think it is freshly made and of course fresh lemon or lime making it a bit more sour. The salsa with the chips were different from many others, not chunky, in fact it was just sauce. It was tasty but no dice tomatoes or onions. We also ordered their hot wings which was good but nothing too different from others but still worth the purchase. I know, we kept ordering and got the chicken empanada and it was way different from what I had before. Instead of premade with the ingredients already wrapped and then fried, their version I really liked. They fried the dough and then opened like a sandwich stuffed with the ingredients. This I think is unique, granted my Mexican food eating has been limited. Service was friendly and fast. You can see them make your meal in an open kitchen. While I am not positive it appeared that they were make their tortillas by hand and everything else was definately made on the spot. Absolutely sensational. They make their own chips and their own salsas. The Guac is made fresh and is full of flavor. They have everything, Tacos, Burritos, Quesadillas, Tortas, and on the weekends they even do some Mexican specials. This place just opened and I hope it stays for a long long time! read more
