And he went out of business. I knew it would happen. Food and service was terrible. To stay in business, you have to be on top of your staff and make sure you're serving fresh food and try not to think you can get away with trying to cheat people by not using fresh food and also treat your staff with respect not yelling at them read more

Deeply excited to try this place! Love the concept of choosing from a range of tacos, and picking one of this and one of that. The downside of that is that the food comes out slooooooowwwww. Waited for a while (with very attentive and apologetic staff) and with hangry children. Take our area in the front, and a hidden sit down area that is air conditioned in the back! Loved all the tacos, especially the Mahi Mahi and birria. Guac was also great. Did not like the sweet soy ginger glaze on both the tuna tacos and the tuna app - it was super sweet and drenched the fish. read more

My friend and went there on a complete whim. It popped up when we were searching for a place to go. Boy, am I so glad we did!! First, the place is very clean and well kept. Decor was minimal but nice and comfortable. Had great music in the background (80's rock - yes I'm GenX). We decided to sample a few things so for appetizers we got the mini calzones (sausage and broccoli rabe) that came 3 on a plate and were about the size of a ravioli and stuffed full. Absolutely delicious. Not overwhelming in garlic taste or sausage - a perfect balance. We also got the lobster dumplings. This came in a small bowl with broccoli florets and a tasty sauce. There were 4 dumplings and again, perfect balance, did not have an overwhelming lobster smell at all and the sauce was tangy with a sweet aftertaste. We also had the ahi tuna tacos, came 2 on a plate, piled high with cabbage, a slice of avocado, tuna, and a crème sauce that left me wanting more, and 2 cucumber slices on top. Again - delicious. For dinner we split the Ahi Tuna and it came with Soba Noodles and Bok Choi in a sauce. The tuna was seared with, what tased like, crushed red pepper flakes but it only had a slight "kick" to it. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted so great. We got the polenta on the side and it was perfect for offsetting the spice! Dessert matched the meal in its taste and presentation! We had the dark chocolate mousse and the napoleon. I think the best part of both was the ice cream that came with it, a perfect addition to the dessert and presented with such elegance that you almost didn't want to eat it. Our waiter was fantastic. He gave us some good suggestions that we went with and did not steer us wrong. Right now, they are BYOB. We had a great chat with the chef on our way out and he was super nice and friendly (and he beat Bobby Flay!). This is our new favorite place and can't wait to go back to try more. They have a lunch menu that is different from the dinner menu that I can't wait to try. Chef Michael says his chicken burger is the best! Gotta try it!! read more

Tons of options to choose from at Craft Taco Company, so you can find something on the menu to satisfy just about any taco craving. The Garlic Shrimp was awesome, with a Poblano-Avocado crema, along with a shredded napa slaw and a touch of bacon jam to round-out the flavors. The Chicken Tika's flavor was somewhat faint so I'd ask for extra tika sauce next time, to help counteract the cool flavor of the cucumber yogurt. I'd definitely try it again. The Birria taco was the only disappointment, with the flavor being really underwhelming- including the sauce. The meat was tender and lean but needed some additional seasoning. I'd probably add some pico de gallo or hot sauce next time. Finally, the Crab Empanada with roasted garlic caper crema was dynamite and 100% worth trying. The quality of the crab was evident, and the empanada shell itself had a good flavor and solid structure. I picked up takeout so I can't speak to the sit down service, but the place looks comfortable and well decorated inside and a few 2-top tables outside. I will absolutely be coming back to work my way through the rest of the menu! read more

Soft opening and still Some kinks to work out . We brought a bottle of wine and asked for glasses. We were given 2 really dirty obviously not cleaned glasses which were switched out immediately upon request. Servers were so helpful and friendly We ordered a good assortment of tacos Paneer (which is fried and thick , might be better smothered in their great sauces and not fried ) Skirt steak - sauce was too heavy for this tacos and maybe a chimichuri would have worked better, chicken also fried and lacked flavor Mahi mahi by itself lacked flavor and needed the sauce in every bite The winners in my humble opinion were the tuna and salmon anything! Loved the kick and spice on these yet still light and tasty . When we go back we will just get the fish tacos and guacamole and ask for water up front which is deliciously cold but u have to ask for it ! The prices were great making this place you can afford to visit a few times a week and i will ! read more

I was able to try out 3 of the tacos during their soft opening. I sat at the bar which faces their open kitchen. They are using a dim sum style check sheet to select what you wanted to order, since i was dining alone i selected 3 tacos. I like this ordering system, as i imagine it will reduce misunderstandings. The server gave me a good run down on the ordering system and expectations on the portion size recommending 4-5 tacos per person, i wasn't overly hungry and as someone who proactively avoids meat i was able to get a good sampling of the taco options with an order of 3. I started with the grilled mahi mahi with a veggie slaw, lime/tomatillo sauce. The sauce and pickled veggies were delightful, solid taco that i would try again. Next up i had the Garlic Shrimp, which is served with poblano/avocado sauce, crispy cabbage and a salty bacon jam. The shrimp were plump and perfectly cooked, and the cabbage added a nice crunch and i couldnt get enough of the sauce. I seemingly saved the best for last as the 3rd taco of the trio was crispy paneer with tomato chutney/dill yogurt and rice and maybe some type of crunchy pickle/onion(maybe). The paneer acted like a nice protein replacement but the chutney and onion flavors were really delicious and far and away my favorite. This taco had some really well developed flavors and was simply next level. Truly great start, what a welcome edition to Westwood, can't wait for grand opening and to try the rest of the menu. read more

This place is AMAZING....but don't come here expecting standard Mexican food The menu is enormously eclectic with lots of fusions at play. The bbq arepa, the Peking duck buns, crab empanadas, duck naan; the menu is incredibly fun and across the board delicious. It's just super tasty food that is prepared and plated in a way I'm used to experiencing at a more "fine dining" style restaurant, but this place retains a casual atmosphere with weirdly excellent music. Also service was really nice. I think the tacos are very solid, the steak taco and birria especially, but I don't think I'd come here for the tacos specifically because the rest of their menu is SO darn interesting and delicious. We're actively excited to come back and try more of their menu! read more

We ordered from the new expanded menu and everything was delicious! The lobster an edamame dumplings were served in a delicious broth loaded with vegetables. The salmon with potatoes was scrumptious! The food was hearty and refined. Our server was very friendly too. I'll be back! read more

We tried it tonight. There is nothing special about the food and I love Mexican food. The service style is burdensome- having to check your food and quantity. I guess I'd ask - who is your market? Because it's not me or any of the many foodies I know that enjoy a dining experience. You fail on both counts- food and dining. read more

The food is inventive and so very reasonable! New take on an old concept. Delicious and nicely presented. The ambiance is not fancy and the service, well, as others have said needs polish. However, this should not dissuade you from eating at this unique establishment. The food makes it special, so much so I can overlook some minor service errors. read more

We went on opening day to support the new business in the area. There are still a few bumps that the management needs to work out. They didn't have any tables available for 4 people, most of the tables were for 2 people. We sat at the bar. So many people work there, but I think they need to be trained a little bit more. First of all, it is not clear how to order. You fill out a sheet and check which tacos you want, but it wasn't clear if you would give it to one of the workers or bring it to the cashier. The waiter took it, but that was the only time we saw him. We ordered water, but he never brought it to us. Food was coming out at all different times. There were four of us and we ate at different times, which is something I hate. The food wasn't warm, which was disappointing and confusing because they made it right in front of us. The food was good, but not great. The best thing we ate was the crab empanada. We got the chicken and waffle taco, I wouldn't get that again. The "waffle" was very floppy. I liked the potato salad on it, very unique. I love Indian food, but I did not care for the tikka taco, it was weak in flavor. The chicken was very bland. My favorite taco was the bulgogi short rib. Meat was tender. They also forgot one of our appetizer items. It was not clear what to do when we were done eating, are they bringing the check or do we go up the front? We went up to the front to pay, since no one was coming. When we paid, we told them to take off the corn appetizer because we never got it. The chef said it was on the plate, check the picture, it wasn't. I will forgive the poor service since it is still a new business. The place wasn't that busy, since it was the middle of the day, I don't know how they would handle an evening crowd. We will try it again, but no rush to go there. read more

I stopped by on their grand opening to try this new Taco spot. Walking inside there was about 15 tables and a long bar you can sit eat while watch the chefs create the food. Great atmosphere but some room for improvement as they settle in. The amount of employees behind the bar seemed to add hectic ness to the restaurant I sat at the bar and ordered a variety of tacos along with the Bacorn shared appetizer. The tacos came out first before the shared appetizer which wasn't the end of the world. All of the tacos we tried were delicious except for the chicken tikka which had slightly over cooked chicken with little flavor. The tacos were also slightly smaller then expected and should have been an inch bigger to hold all of the tasty fillings. Soon after we received the Bacorn which was absolutely delicious. It was a bowl of corn purée with fried pork belly and other accouterments on top. Not what I was expecting but very good. Overall an okay experience and will stop by in a few weeks to try again once the opening kinks are cleared up. read more

I went the day of the grand opening (today) and while the place has potential, it was not ready to open. Some things need to be worked out before it's ready for prime time. The good: Cauliflower tacos were satisfying, with good flavor and heft. However presentation was a bit lacking and the tortillas did not seem fresh. The issues: Most of the other food, plus the service, was inadequate. The street corn had to be sent back as it was wholly inedible (for which we did not receive a refund, but given they are a new business that is just starting I did not make a fuss). The paneer tacos were ok but not great, and the components of the taco did not seem like they belong together. It appeared hastily assembled. We also did not receive any utensils when the street corn was brought out and had to wait several minutes before we finally asked for some. This is likely the fault of the training received by the waitstaff. The waitstaff are very young and may not have much experience - some experienced hires are likely necessary, to be role models for the younger folk. Additionally there was a mix up in our order which could have easily been resolved if the waitstaff was trained to explain the order when they bring it out so that the customer can react if something is amiss. Luckily my wife knows what chicken looks like and caught the mix up (I am vegetarian so had no idea). In addition to that mix up we ordered one corn and one flour tortilla in each order, but they brought out all flour ones. Not the end of the world, but no point to having the option. I will wait a few months before trying this place again as a good taco spot is needed in the area - I'm hoping this can become it. read more

As I've mentioned in past reviews I am from Los Angeles and have eaten authentic Mexican food my entire life. This is NOT Mexican food. The Totopos are awful dry and flavorless, they need to invest in a fryer to make real chips. The black beans were so salty I threw them away and the chile rajas flavorless and dry! With that said the tacos or whatever you call them were flavorful. I enjoyed the shrimp, tuna, fried chicken, skirt steak, cauliflower, and tika tocos. My wife loved her salad! Tacos good, everything else sketchy. Not sure I'd eat there again. read more

I went the night before the grand opening and this place has a lot of potential but a lot of issues to work out. The Good: The crab empenadas were delicious as well as the tator tots (though our dish was missing the peppered bacon). The garlic shrimp taco and the birria taco were also A+. The Issues: This place was not ready to open. The servers (we had several) were untrained and could not tell you what tacos were on your plate. They could not figure out how to add a tip to our bill or how to properly use the POS machine. To be clear this is the fault of management not the staff. There was seemingly no manager focused on customer service as the owner was cooking. As time passed, you could see the frustration build and servers begin to argue with each other. When our server said she couldn't figure out how to add tip, she was like it's okay you don't have to tip me - that's not acceptable and luckily we had some cash that got us close to 20%. We also had an item on our bill that we never ordered and that was removed. We were never offered water and us and other tables had to ask for utensils. It was funny, another table was asked how they liked their food and their reply was we have no forks. The restaurant does not serve all the food in each course at the same time (this should be changed) and my wife got both her apps and main before me and ate largely by herself. One of my tacos was never served even after asking twice on status (it was eventually removed with no apology). There are major issues with ticketing as I mention in the next paragraph. It seemed like dish after dish was getting sent back from many tables and it seemed like it had to do when you made adjustments to the taco - speaking to staff not knowing how to use the POS or it not being set up properly. We ordered 8 tacos , 7 flour and 1 corn. The one corn taco was served as flour. The chicken Tikka taco was served with breaded and fried chicken which is an odd choice. Besides being overcooked it was hard to eat as a taco. Picture below. Other tacos had sauces and if you waited a couple minutes to eat it, it would begin to sog the flour shell and fall apart. Frustration was building with the owner with his staff towards the end of the night and it led to behavior that was not appropriate, such as ripping a ticket out of servers hand and berating them about the POS when customers are still eating. But again, proper training falls on management ahead of an opening. The downside of the open kitchen concept is that everything is visible, which is great only when things are running smoothly. They also put clean dishes next to dirty ones which likely will lead to mix ups like the other review stating they received dirty wine glasses. We couldn't wait to try the food and we will give it another shot, but will wait for a few months. Update: Sadly looks like "fake" 5 star reviews from people with new accounts or no review history. Very off-putting rather than actually fixing the issues. read more

I have been driving by this place every day for months, anxiously anticipating the opening. I finally got a chance to try it out, and it didn't disappoint! The service was attentive and very friendly. The food was fantastic. The Bacorn was uniquely delicious, and the tater tots were amazing. Of all the tacos we tried, the tuna tartar and the birria were spectacular. I'm glad they had nice plain choices on the children's menu, and of course chicken nuggets for my picky kids. We didn't get a chance to try the desserts, but I can't wait to go back for them. read more

I was pleasantly surprised and super impressed at the creative and flavorful tacos, totopos and a great guacamole ! I've eaten there twice thus far but plan on returning soon. My daughter, who is the pickiest eater thought it was great! She had the pulled pork tacos, and chicken fingers, which she said were the best she has ever had. Her friend had the garlic shrimp taco and fish fry taco. I had the chicken Milanese burrito, and Mahi Mahi Bowl. The food came out really quickly the second time we went and a bit slow the first time. Staff is SUPER NICE and the owner/chef Mike is incredible attentive and personable. read more

Very impressed with this newcomer to Westwood offering eclectic and interesting boutique tacos. The atmosphere is informal and can be boisterous; it's kid friendly and spacious. To start, the crab empanada is excellent- creamy and flavorful. We enjoyed the tuna tartare taco in a crispy shell. The house made guacamole is so tasty, as are the black beans. Favorites were the bulgogi short rib taco, the mahi-mahi, an Indian inspired chicken taco, and all of the salads. We will be back! read more

Walking in the place is very welcoming - they need some work as all our food was cold, some apps came out after the tacos. I ordered the skirt steak tacos meat was very chewy and fatty and was cut way to thick and should be cut against the grain and thin if putting in a taco. The crab meat empanada very good, Street corn just seemed like frozen corn in a bowl with no flavor just spicy sauce and had no crumbled cheese. the photos people attached is no what ours looked like, the tacos seemed like they just literally just threw it together. not rushing to go back read more

Was excited to try this new spot and it did not disappoint! We shared chips and guacamole and 6 tacos, the bulgogi was our hands down favorite. the garlic shrimp and chicken and waffle were close seconds, followed by the tuna tataki. I also appreciated the basic tacos and chicken fingers on the kids menus. Can't wait to return and try other tacos on the menu! read more

I dont like to leave bad reviews but today's experience was so unbelievably bad I felt the need to. I ordered 4 items. All were beyond horrible, I was shocked that they have the nerve to serve such garbage. The Mahi taco was the first thing I had . The fish was raw and and cold and watery and tasted like a wrung out sponge, the potato skins that top it were cold and not even crispy and looked like they had been laying around as well as the soggy veggies that weren't even crisp as you d expect them to be. The char Sui taco also cold. Same laying around soggy veggies on that . The poblano corn looked like a greying ramekin of overcooked corn mush. Also cold. The crab empanada was actually ok. When I tried to tell them there was an issue the owner came over and blamed the air conditioning on the flood temp I tried to explain about the components of all the dishes and the fact that I spit the fish out in a napkin because it was that bad . All he did was cut me off , talk over me and tell me he's the top chef in this town. He didn't apologize , didn't offer to make it better ...nothing. I told him I just wanted to leave because he was so argumentative with me. He also made a comment about what I looked like which was so rude and unbelievable. No " top chef" would serve food like this or treat a customer so bady. I told him that he should be ashamed. And to top it off I had to pay for this garbage that I didn't even eat and left behind. Appalling to say the least. DON'T waste your money here..over priced garbage. Someone is going to get sick eating here! read more
