After multiple takeout orders I can safely say that the sandwiches (and the guac!) are still amazing. The food travels well to boot. The Cecina Cemita is still my favorite. Its unapologetically salty and all the better for it. Dining in is not really an option as they have a handful of stools to sit in. And that's OK. I've been there several times before, and the staff is friendly and pleasant. On this last visit, my spouse and I had combination plates; mine was the taco, burrito, chimichanga, and my spouses was the triple chimichanga. We both had beef. Additionally, we split a Mexican style taco with steak(biztec). The food was excellent, and we're definitely going to make this a monthly routine. Would definitely recommend 9/10. My only gripe, and it's a tiny one, is that it's counter seating, and it's a bit narrow, so if other patrons have to pass, they may accidentally brush past. Got takeout from here and I thought the food was decent, but not great. I got 3 tacos (steak, spicy pork, and chicken), a Cinco de mayo salad, and a camarones en salsa verde. The tacos were big, and they definitely don't skimp on the protein. You can get them with green or red sauce. Flavor wise they were good, but the steak in particular was too tough for me. They should either cut it into smaller pieces or cook it to a medium instead of well done. The salad and shrimp were quite good. I particularly liked the shrimp dish. read more

Coming form Chicago and LA, this experience of taqueria food was so underwhelming. We ordered the vegetarian platter which comes with guacamole burrito, rice and beans, and Chile relleno. The guacamole burrito lacked, and the Chile relleno were not that great. The highlight were the beans. So it was quite a hefty price for what we received. For vegetarians out there, if this matters to you, I saw the woman cooking cook all orders simultaneously on 1 grill, so the meats are touching your non meat items. They had 2 grills and we awkwardly requested one lady to handle our order separate. She seemed annoyed, which we felt bad and apologized profusely for the inconvenience, but we couldnt eat something that touched or cooked with meat, and we came for the "vegetarian platter" which assumes that it isn't cooked with meat. TLDR: raised prices on me and gave me the wrong food I called for takeout and ordered 12 tacos (4 different kinds). The lady told me the price - which was correct, based on the prices on their menu in the Yelp photos. The beef quesadilla was mostly filled with chicken and a little shredded beef - I don't think it was supposed to include chicken at all since I selected beef. So there's an authentic Mexican taco joint hiding in the middle of Hillsdale, go figure. Heard about this place from a good friend. If you weren't looking for it, you'd definitely miss it. It's a lunch counter, where most of the seating is on a bar facing the cooking area. The prices are cheap, and the food is great. I had the tongue, head, pork, and chicken tacos. Very authentic, just onions, cilantro, and lime on two flour tortillas. We also tried the chicken quesadillas and a bit of the beef burritos. They were also excellent. Had you told me a couple years ago that an authentic Mexican spot was hidden in plain sight on Broadway in Hillsdale, I would've accused you of pulling my leg. I was certainly skeptical when my brother told me about it and suggested I try it. He's Yelp Elite so you know he knows his stuff. We stopped by for a late dinner after a day of riding our motorcycles (that's how most of our food adventures start). Before you order you're given complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa verde is particularly dope. Now my brother had already been here before and he suggested I try the street tacos. My first time here happened to be a couple weeks after visiting Tijuana so I'd say I had a good measure of authenticity. Needless to say the tacos did not disappoint. I think I've tried every kind of taco they have and all were very good. My favorites are the lengua and the al pastor. They also offer great quesadillas and you can even get a fried quesadilla. All extremely delicious. Bonus points because they deliver if you're nearby. All in all, a surprisingly authentic and delicious Mexican joint in an unexpected spot. read more

Ordered pick up. I got two chicken tacos and a side of rice and beans. The rice and beans were plentiful. The tacos were a tad cold by the time I ate them, but simple and solid. We also go the chicken chalupa. Again, solid, simple, and quality. My only issue is that we were charged for the chicken taco dinner entree instead of two chicken tacos and a side of beans and rice. Had a hankering for a sandwich as I often do. My favorites are at least 1/2 hour away. Yelped sandwiches and it came back this place. Never went, the last owner was bad. Took a chance and went with wife for lunch after church. Place was empty. Two ladies working on a take out order. Sat in back reading menu. Requested a pork sandwich. It's a Mexican version of a bahn mi. Not bad but needed a little more flavor. Wife ordered a Cinco de Mayo sandwich; same sandwich but spicy. She liked it. Saw something that piqued my interest. They serve tongue (my favorite) in a street taco. Tender as hell but not much flavor. The taco sauces they provide (mild or spicy) seem to add the flavor needed. Will visit again and adjust stars as necessary. I'm hoping for an improved experience. BTW space is tight so be slinky thin or you are continually excusing yourself knocking into everyone. read more

Review only pertains to the chicken cemitas since I came for pick up and had very little interaction with staff. So my quest for cemitas that match or surpass the one from smorgasburg restarted. First off man this thing is huge. Came to a little more than 500 gm in weight (I have to weigh my food and count calories. FYI about 1600 calories. Maybe more). The bread on this one was nice and soft (Good to know their bread is not stale). There was a massive amount of cheese. This thing is like half cheese half bread. I find Oaxaca cheese to be on the mild side, dare I say bland. So with more cheese than meat, the chicken kinda got lost. Speaking of the chicken, it was decent enough. Tender, relatively moist considering it was thin. Seasoned well to my taste (I'm sensitive to salt). There wasn't too much chilies so it wasn't that spicy either (I'm also bad with spicy food). I suggest asking for extra heat if u like that sort of thing. Overall fairly descent sandwich. The meat to cheese ratio could be more evened out though. I would come back again.
