Their leadership, in some indirect fashion, has led to the craftsmanship of El Azteca - A slight chain of Mexican restaurants in a 30 min radius of Bergen County. I will copy and paste this review across the Park Ridge and Mahwah locations so emphasize my appreciate for their consistency in providing great Mexican food. If you are consistently performing, Linguini will take care of you. Like I've taken care of many others. I will bring you to the top with me. If you backstab me. Oh if you come for me at the top, you will reach an abyss so deep you may end up digging to China. Don't test me. I'm not that guy. Anyways, I've tried a lot from Azteca. Most of what they've got is a 4/4.5 out of 5 but I'm rounding up for the full experience. Phenomenal price point. Variety of food that all comes out well. Performs well in restaurant and when the food travels. Friendly staff. And local business of which I support. I suffer from GGS - Good Guy Syndrome, sorry not sorry. My motha, bless her soul. I legit mean bless her soul. Be nice. Pray. Bow down to her. She doesn't eat much food but she even loved the taco salad here so much that she asked to go again. So much protein, so well seasoned. Just as their other options showcase as well. My personal favs are the Kash Burrito and the, what I'd call "trademark" Cod Burrito. Never have seen it elsewhere like this. The wrap is toasted wonderfully, great rice, great salsa. I mean this place just does it real well. I've had tacos, appetizers, desserts. Never let down. El Azteca is consistently good. Constantly pushing out quality product. Is it the best Mexican I've had? No. But it's the most underrated. Being a consistent 4, makes you a five in my books. It's like that girl that's occasionally a 6 or occasionally an 9... you can't bring her home. But that girl that's consistently a 7 or an 8? You let her meet the fam. I don't where I'm going with this one. All I'll say is STOP. Stop going to Chipotle, Bubbakoo's, etc. when you could be supporting a better quality and friendlier priced location in El Azteca. Absolutely loved the food from here. I got a beef empanada, steak burrito and side of plantains. The beef empanada was delicious and had great season meat inside and it was piping hot. The steak burrito was everything I could have hoped for in a burrito. The steak was well seasoned. The rice in the burrito was the perfect texture and everything else in the burrito just was delicious in combination with the steak and rice. There's also a small hint of cilantro which was not overpowering and was pleasant. It came with red salsa, which was delicious. The plantains were fantastic and just cooked a perfect perfection. 3.5: it seems very easy to get the order wrong and today was our day. I ordered steak tacos and received pulled pork, and requested no onions and they didn't provide any cilantro or other toppings either. The result were dry tacos. We didn't bother to complain but it was a bummer and seems like it could easily happen again. As expected the vegetarian burrito was good, well stuffed, fat and tasty. I had a delivery order from Azteca today. I chose SOPES plate, which has three of them. You have the option to combine 3 different kind of stews. Mine had two of grilled steak and one with Chicken. Sopes are a thick corn tortilla ; They had a layer of beans, iceberg lettuce & Mexican cream on the top. The order came with two kind of spicy Salsas( medium spicy) , one green and one red on the side .Green was delicious. All of the ingredients were high-quality This is really Mexican cuisine plate. I always ordered from them but this last time the person who answered the phone was rude obnoxious and when i was asking questions about the menu she couldn't answer and then she hung up on me. When i called back i asked for the owner and she was ok but no remorse about her employee. I feel you should take ownership for her actions. One of my go-to spots for authentic Mexican food. El Azteca is a small casual sit down restaurant. There are only a few tables in there so seating is limited. The owner was friendly. Got takeout tacos for a family gathering. The carne asada, al pastor, and carnitas tacos we're all great. Also got a side of rice, black beans, and refried beans. Very good. The nachos were the only disappointment- ended up soggy and not really good but I'm assuming that's due to them being "for takeout" and that they didn't really do well sitting. I have to say... over the past year the portion sizes have got smaller while the prices seem to increase. My past two visits two months ago and this week have made me update this post. #1 The salsa I believe is not authentic in anyway. And if it is authentic, there's entirely too much cumin in it. #2 The Carne Asada tacos did not have much flavor to them. tYhe portion size is considerably smaller from past visits. The tortillas were barely steamed or cooked. #3 on a final note Covid is over please take down the barrier. This barrier is intrusive and absolutely unnecessary. I can't hear what your employees are saying when I'm ordering, which is frustrating. And once again, there's absolutely no need for it. I had you all at a five star prior and I am now updating it to a two star . I love small businesses. as I am an owner myself. but you must greet the customers. The owner was there and he did greet a soul or even say thank you. Please, ask them what they like and don't like.. this is how you build upon success in my own experiences. Note to self... don't hurry back here! Note to others... The guacamole is pretty good here, with nice, crunchy chips. The service isn't truly supportive the way you would expect a real sit-down restaurant to be, as one person was running the entire dining room and counter for the lunch shift the day after Christmas... it wasn't terrible, but there were several times where something was needed and the server was simply too busy. I would recommend you stay away from the carnitas. It was dry and not very flavorful. One more thing... silverware is not given automatically. Nothing is given but menus, actually. So when you think you need a fork for something where a fork is not deemed "necessary" (like for a burrito), you'll have to wait for one, and it the one you get might be plastic. I was expecting a good burrito and instead I experienced an amazing burrito! I can't believe I've never tried this place before but it totally lived up to the hype. They somehow perfectly pressed the burrito all around, and all the insides were evenly distributed throughout too! You get a couple small containers of salsas too but I didn't really need to use too much. The cod was incredible and they certainly weren't stingy with it (take a look at the photo). Indoor has super limited seating but I saw most people taking their orders to go anyway. There's a small credit card charge too, but otherwise cash is king. Definitely try this place out! read more

They are rude. Food is average. Now for the full review. I've ordered here twice and won't go back. First time, I sampled a number of dishes and it was hit or miss. Ceviche was flavorless and actually, not even a true ceviche. The burritos are huge and the components are tasty too. It's not like they fill it with bland rice and other fillers. Yes, it's half rice, but the rice is actually good. As others say, the Mexican chorizo burrito is tasty. Chicken chipotle burrito was so-so. The carne asada is decent, but nobody was wow'd by it. Nachos were awful. Couldn't see or taste components. It just a big chunk of fused chips and cheese you could pick up and throw across the room. Flan was good. Sadly, as others have said, a girl or possibly the owner up front is rude. My second time ordering and they made a mistake. Mistakes are fine, as long you remedy them like a courteous business owner. Halfway driving home, I noticed they forgot a part of my order. I called up to explain and received an attitude. It's "my fault" because the girl who took my order claims "she read back the order when placed and I said yes, that's correct". Only problem is, that's false since she never read it back. They just, for whatever reason, missed the last item I ordered. Again, this would've been fine if they simply apologized (not in their dictionary) and offered to make it. They also had to make a point, with tone, that I "never paid for it". No kidding and I didn't get it either. Sigh. Food is a bit better than Taco Bell, but not as fresh tasting as I've had in parts of Mexico. Rudeness though = won't go back. read more

This place tries to be authentic but it's NOT! Salsa is Tostitos brand, guacamole tastes and looks like it came out of a container. Sour cream is diluted and watered down. My husband ordered the cod burrito and the cod was two frozen square cod sticks. My ground beef enchiladas were below average at best and that's being generous. The ground beef was stringy and super fatty. It was gross. We only came here because of the FANTASTIC reviews on Yelp, but We were disappointed and couldn't believe the raving reviews on Yelp yet the food sucked! To all the people who wrote great reviews need to get out more! The most authentic thing on the menu is their Mexican Coca Cola which comes in a glass bottle. Food is mediocre at best. Tacos were dry, burritos were 75% rice, guacamole didn't have any lime juice or salt in it, totally bland. The place is clean but the AC is semi broken -- it drips water on your head and the entryway is a nasty puddle. The service is the worst part. The server brought out two napkins even though there were four of us. When we asked for more napkins, she brought out exactly two more. When we asked another server for "couple of forks," she brought out just one. Same with boxes -- asked for two and there were two plates of barely touched food and she brought out just one. Just an excellent burrito in Bergen County. I've had the grilled chicken burrito twice and both times it's been remarkable. I order mine without rice and with avocado (as an add-on I guess) and I think they automatically grill the outside because it comes kinda crispy and brown which totally rocks. On the side they serve a bangin' hot sauce that I just pour over every bite. FWIW - a lot of the critical reviews of this place cite the rudeness of the staff or generally poor interactions at the counter. I haven't had that experience myself and frankly if you're going into a tiny take-out Mexican joint expecting a big warm hug and a deep conversation I think you've just got your expectations all out of wack. This spot is a very good, authentic Mexican spot in the heart of Park Ridge. I've been a few times and I've tried just about all of their tacos and their cod burrito. If I was rating them based off their tacos alone, it would probably be 3-stars. I wasn't wowed by them but they were still solid tacos. I'd say they were a little under seasoned but they're decently priced so I'd get them again. However their cod burrito is amazing. The fish tasted fresh and was fried to perfection. The flavor of the fish blended well with all the other components of the burrito. The tortilla is the perfect texture and the portion is huge. I'd say this is a 5-star fish burrito. The service is good and they also give you chips and salsa with your order. The restaurant is also pretty clean and there's a decent amount of seating. Happened to find this gem while at a basketball tournament. When we first walked in the place is very small, but that didn't discourage us, those are usually the best places. Staff and customers were super friendly. We started with loaded nachos and shrimp ceviche (so fresh)OMG TO BOTH we ordered the cod burrito, the carnitas burrito, chicken torta, and 4 tacos. Everything was perfect, portions are big took half of the food home. The waitress and owners were very welcoming and attentive. Recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Mexican food.
