There are few dessert-oriented eateries in the Westfield Garden State Plaza mall (with dedicated sit-down space), especially on a Sunday. My husband and I were craving a spot of something sweet, so we came in here in search of a light bite. Adding toppings is where it's hardest for me to exercise restraint. It's a chance for me to load up the cheesecake bites, heath bar crunchies, gummy bears, rainbow sprinkles, and then called it healthy because it's frozen yogurt and because it's got some fruit. All those toppings can start to ring up the cost of your unhinged choices because everything is totaled by weight. On the plus side, there's plenty of seats, and even some spillover seating inside the mall. It also seems like there's something for everything along the wall of flavors. Dairy-free for vegans, oatly flavors for those allergic to soy, sugar-free for the diabetic, and Dubai chocolate for the fad chasers. The guy at the front was nice enough to grab us a few samples. We got to try the new taro pie, vanilla, and Oreo but to me, most of them tasted really artificial with an ice shardey texture. We ended up going with the original yogurt flavor since it's our typical order, but this was far from the best execution of it because this, too, had the texture of wet slush. read more

Wowww, who remembers the self-serve frozen yogurt trend in the early 2010s? Froyo shops used to pop up left and right during those times... and now so many have closed down. I've always been a sucker for this frozen treat, so I'm glad 16 Handles is here to stay! This location is on the second floor of the Garden State Plaza mall near the AMC Theatres. The interior is bright, colorful, and vibrant with 8 self-serve machines and a total of 16 different flavors (hence the name, 16 handles). They have a large selection of toppings. They also serve bubble tea, acai bowls, and smoothies. They rotate their flavors every so often, but there are a few staple ones they always keep. They have dairy free, gluten free, and sugar free options. Each flavor is labeled with allergens and nutrition facts. The employees let you sample what you want. My favorite flavors are the Original Tart, Taro, and Salted Caramel. I love to top it off with mochi and gummy bears. My only complaint is that some flavors come out verrrrrrry icy and watered down... Froyo should have a smooth, soft serve-like texture. Once you decide on your flavor(s), you pick a cup and swirl away. You can add as many toppings as you want BUT they charge you by weight. So it's easy to rack the price up $$$$. And yes, it's a "healthier" alternative to ice cream BUT just like the price, you can easily stack up on calories. read more

What a nice treat to have! They usually have one or two vegan frozen yogurt option. They have oatly vanilla and mango flavors. They have fruits and other vegan topping available. My favorite is the wet walnuts. You can put as much as your heart desire and just have to pay by weight. read more

I enjoy this place for the fact that they have flavorful vegan options. My favorites are the passion fruit and chocolate hazelnut. Both vegan. They have fresh fruit and nut toppings. I also got their dairy-free strawberry and pineapple smoothie made with coconut milk. I asked for no grape juice but water instead so there was no added sugars. Tasted good. My only suggestion would be to provide some fresh squeezed juices to make the smoothies healthier and filled with less artificial sugar. She looked at the bottle and said yes but when I checked I saw it did have a milk derivative in it. It's always a treat to stop by for some frozen yogurt during a day of shopping at the Garden State Plaza. The staff here was super friendly when we walked in, asking if we needed assistance and to let him know if we wanted to try any samples. There are plenty of flavors to choose from, including traditional soft serve flavors like cookies+cream and coffee to unique ones like taro and pumpkin spice. Vegan options were also available, and the menu expanded to also include bubble tea. My family and I always get the Eurotart flavored ice cream and top it with a bunch of stuff like oreo cookies, m&ms, pieces of mochi (my personal favorite), lychee bubbles, and fruit. Red mango allows you to sample all their frozen yogurts.....not so with 16 Handles, there is only one 'flavor of the day' you may try. Today's free offering was: cake batter. (I had also sampled this at Red Mango) Compared to Red Mango this fro-yo was thin, no where near as thick and creamy and a little tart. The flavor of the cake batter was rather diluted and bland. 16 Handles tastes like frozen yogurt. Red Mango tastes like soft serve ice cream. Both are non fat. The Mango wins this taste comparison, no contest. read more

The smoothies here are delicious. I typically default to Jamba Juice but was with my mom and little sister who was on a mission to get as much shopping done before the mall closed so we didn't have the "time" to spare to take a detour to Jamba Juice. When I saw the "Smoothies made with Real Fruit" sign at this random slice of heaven in the mall (located in front of the gutted JCPenneys) I begged my mom and lil sis to stop and allow me to order a smoothie. I got them to agree to spend the extra time standing around in a spot in the mall where there are no shops to scavenge through by offering to get them one too...and it was totally worth it. These smoothies taste WAY better than anything I ever got from Jamba Juice. I just wish they had larger cups because I totalled inhaled mine in about 5 mins. If I had known it was going to be so good, I would have ordered two for just myself. We ended up circling around to Jumba Juice eventually (after my mom and sister hit up ALL of the shops) and I ordered my usual Mango-Go-Go, it was surprisingly a significantly lower quality smoothie compared to the smoothie I got at this place...so low quality that I didn't even want to finish it. My taste buds were like, "No thank you, we have had better." My only complaint is that there aren't any more of these places located through out the mall. read more

It's just a standard self-serve froyo place. Prices are fair, flavors are decent. But, if two people come and seem to be constructing a cup to share, why would you only offer one spoon and have to be flagged down for a second one? Whatever, it's a froyo booth in a mall. read more

Decent frozen yogurt. 16 Handles has a variety of flavors and toppings. I really like the self serve concept; however often times it takes a while for the frozen yogurt to come out of the machine. It's also kind of expensive but it's certainly a place to try out. read more

I love this frozen yogurt place, the flavors are really good and very rich. i feel like their frozen yogurt is thicker which I like.
