When I walked in the guy making the food was very welcoming with a nice big smile. I had a few questions for him and he explained them all perfectly so I understood what I was getting. As for the food: We tried the chicken & lamb combo platter. It was full to the brim. Had to weight 4lbs. The chicken and the lamb were both flavorful and cooked well. That goes the same for the rice. They threw in extra sauce as well. Also tried the chopped cheese burger. It was good but it could have been chopped up a little more. The seasoned fries it came with were still nice and crispy when I got home. Will definitely be back being it's less than 10 minutes from me.

Thankfully the Halal Joint has a much saner gameplan - being open and having (enough) inventory. The restaurant is small, bright, clean. The guy behind the counter was friendly. And the food has a lot of pop - the falafel was crispy, crunchy and packed with flavor and those Cajun fries (weird that they only offered seasoned French fries) were mighty delicious as well. Everything being fried isn't the best option for someone in my age-bracket but it sure was tasty. Portion sizes were legit. Pricing was decent. Parking... welp, you can't win 'em all.

I know there's a million Halal spots popping up, and I will admit I'm very, very picky when it comes to platters. I miss the good ol' days on 53rd street in NYC... I came by around 10pm and was served quickly by a friendly employee. They have platters, burgers, wraps, wings, chicken tenders, fries, etc. I ordered the chicken rice platter (~$13.50). They cook the meat fresh on the grill and then you choose your toppings at the salad bar (olives, onions, peppers, tomatoes, etc.). It's a bit pricier than other places, but the portion size is huge. The container felt HEAVY lol. It's just a shame it went to waste because I really didn't enjoy the food. I only finished about half of it before I tossed the rest. The white sauce was almost flavorless and was VERY watery. The chicken wasn't as well-seasoned. No distinct spices or aroma. Every bite left me with a very greasy and salty taste in my mouth. The side salad was just okay. I was disappointed. The only saving grace was the rice... it was fluffy and the best part of the whole platter. Not sure if I came on an off night or...? Don't let my review stop you from trying. It might just not be the Halal spot for me.

The place was empty, still very clean. It has indoor/outdoor seating. We selected indoor seating simply because of the heat. Had the chicken shawarma sandwich. Oh how I miss it, absolutely delicious. Located off of Route 46 West in Elmwood Park, King Falafel is where I decided on takeout after a 5-year hiatus. Upon arrival at a laid-back, clean, and casual vibe before the lunch crowd, I placed an order of falafel and Greek salad with the friendly chef/owner, Sami, and exchanged a few words. Their menu offers a wide range with options for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free. The falafel was crispy, not dry, well-seasoned, and served hot with sides of tahini and spicy sauce. The portions were huge and very tasty. The Greek salad was made to order without onions and green peppers. It was large enough for a second meal. The quality and care the kitchen puts into each dish truly set them apart, and it's authentic. The service was quick and accommodating. The price was reasonable, and one is getting every penny's worth, which I can continue to recommend.

The bread was nice and crackly and there was a LOT of it. The toum, unlike other Arab places with toum, was actually light and had that whipped texture that is desired. The garlic flavor was on point and not too overpowering. The star of the show was easily the crispy chicken shawarma, though. It looks small in some videos, but it was wider than my mouth. I had to do some talking to find out myself, but to get the fries, toum, and pickles next to the shawarma, you need to ask for the crispy chicken shawarma combo. It was super crispy, and the breading was very nicely toasted. I kept finding myself layering the top with some pickles, fries, and more toum. They also drizzled some pomegranate molasses on the chicken shawarma, which gave it a tangy but also fruity aftertaste. We also ordered the charcoal chicken and kebab. The kebab, instead of normal beef on a stick, actually came with some yellow rice and some REALLY GOOD spicy seasoned bread that was very soft and moist on some parts and crispy on the others. You could literally see the spice particles on it. The charcoal chicken was juicy, tender, and had that charcoal roasted flavoring. It even came with a bunch of complimentary fries. The fries on both the shawarma and the charcoal chicken was nicely battered, and the shawarma fries were very well seasoned. The only thing is that the bathroom is through a door that leads upstairs, and you have to open two doors.
