I wanted to find a nearby pizzaria that we could regularly order from. The dough is thick and flavorless. There is too much cheese to sauce ratio and I'm not sure what kind of cheese is used but it's bland and seems like some generic bulk cheese. It's so flavorless it always tastes like white American cheese. We lived in NYC for many years so enjoy a thin NYC slice. This is not that at all. It's been years since I've had a north beach pizza, perhaps even over a decade because I always forget that NB had a location in Berkeley. I finally remembered and ordered for our normal Friday night pizza night. Of course I ordered the NB special and tried the meatball pizza. NB special did not disappoint. Meatball was different. I think the meatball consistency was too soft for a pizza topping for my liking, but overall taste was ok. We finished the pizza so that's a good sign. Definitely up for some more experimenting on other specials. Overall service was good. My husband picked up the pizza and he seemed to have been chatty with the staff and didn't mind waiting a bit longer as they worked through a big order. I am so sorry to leave this review, but I think that it's an important matter. I ordered a pizza from them through delivery.com and had an awful experience. When I answered the questions at their web page I ordered a 4 cheese pizza and selected gluten free option. When the pizza arrived it was a different kind of pizza. I said, well that's not a big deal. The problem was when I tried the pizza and asked myself, OMG! Is this GF pizza? I called the restaurant and they said they didn't have any GF options in the pizza I asked for, nor in the one they sent me. The person at the phone was very nice and apologetic. They told me to call delivery.com, so I did. The lady at the phone was very rude. They treated me like if I were lying and told me that they would not refund my money. I think there is a big responsibility here of people who offer GF options! I felt sick and impotent because they didn't return my money. Where are the rights as costumers? Luckily I don't have a severe allergy to gluten, but it does make me feel sick. So sad, the pizza was delicious. read more

Gayle and I took her son and his girlfriend out to lunch here last Saturday. There was not ulterior motive other than for a loving mother's desire to maintain a friendly adult relationship with her son. We also enjoyed the chance to see their new and nicely appointed apartment. We ordered a large pizza, half San Francisco special (clams and garlic) and half Amigo (Ground Beef, Black Olives, Fresh Tomatoes, Green Onions, Jalapeno Peppers). The later was too spicy for all of us, while the SF pizza was pretty darn good. All I want for Christmas is good Italian food. We ordered a few items for delivery, dishes I assumed would be standard fare for an Italian joint: fettuccini primavera with red sauce, chicken cacciatore, garlic bread, and a side salad. Simple, no? No. The red sauce on both dishes was so sweet it made my tongue pucker and my teeth ache. When you add that much sugar to something other than dessert (or pancakes), it's generally a recipe for disaster. The chicken was dry despite being soaked in grease, and the vegetables (peppers, onions, mushrooms) tasted frozen rather than fresh. Even the "oil and vinegar" dressing on the salad was inedible. Whatever type of vinegar it was, it certainly wasn't balsamic, and it certainly wasn't meant to be dressing. Blech. I'm a huge fan of leftovers, and the portion sizes were generous, but the food was so bad we had to toss it. An Italian restaurant that can't make a standard, savory red sauce is not to be trusted! read more

Horrible food. I ordered through uber eats and paid over a hundred dollars and was given tasteless inedible food. The thin crust wasn't even thin and the pizza tasted like cardboard. The pasta had 5 baby sized pieces of broccoli for the add broccoli option. And tasted like nothing but sausage. We ended up as a family not eating it. How this restaurant is still in business is beyond me. In a dish with multiple ingredients things are supposed to compliment each other and not just taste like 1 thing. October was my first time coming to this restaurant. Someone I know recommended this and said their pizza was really good. I ordered this for my daughter's birthday and her and her friends loved it. It was good. Around Halloween I thought I would come back and try something different so I ordered Alfredo Pasta Penne. I also ordered Pesto Pasta Penne. In my opinion almost $20 for each pan was way too much for the amount, but that's not my issue. My issue was that the Alfredo sauce was bland and slight watery. I tried North Beach Pizza for the first time a few weeks ago and I liked it, but didn't love it. The pizza felt average and was priced relatively high. However, I kept an open mind and was open to try it again and I'm glad I did. Instead of getting my pie to go, we opted on dining in, which resulted in a great experience. It was a little after 4p.m. and the dining area was pretty slow with only three or four tables including us. We started things with garlic bread and ordered a medium "create your own pizza" with pepperoni and green peppers. We paid an extra $1 for the thick crust, which made the biggest difference in the world. And for only $1! In comparison, Round Table charges around $3-4 for a thicker crust. The garlic bread came out and was good, but I limited myself to a piece or two, as I knew I was going to stuff myself with the pizza pie. Unfortunately, the pizza pie took a little long to come out, I would say about 20 minutes, which felt excruciating long, especially with the small number of diners. However, the server kept checking up on us and refilling our drinks and never neglected us. Once the pie came out, it looked amazing (see pics). It tasted like a completely different pizza from my previous Vegetarian Special. The $1 crust upgrade made all the difference and took the pizza from average to must try. The cheese was gooey, the marinara was just right, and the pepperoni was under the cheese, which is something I've never seen. I didn't want to stop eating, but after three or four slices, I was stuffed. After my great experience, I suggest creating your own pizza rather than ordering the expensive house specialties. We paid a little over $20 for our medium pizza with two toppings and our garlic bread appetizer. In comparison, the first time I ordered the large Vegetarian Special, it came to almost $30 and wasn't nowhere near as good as our recent pie. After an absolute day of languid laziness and no strict schedules of any kind set, we met up with good friends of mine from Sacramento, who were on their way back to the capitol after catching the Bernhardt show in SF. I've passed this nondescript shop a gazillion times on my way to UC Berkeley and fun Telegraph, so pulling into their parking lot was a little on the surreal side for me. Wow. A free parking lot in Berkeley. Once inside, I am instantly wooed by the warm casual and unimposing decor and ambiance. The tables are clean and clothed in green checkered tablecloths. The vinyl seat literally reaches up to receive me, and my aching feet are tucked under in a serene yoga sit-up position. During moments of chatter, I peruse the menu. Cheap, affordable, and lots of choices. Usually not what I expect at a pizzeria. Since I was craving pesto for some crazy reason, the chicken with pesto sauce seemed quite striking to me, and I ordered the small ($12.95). The bf ordered a plate of their gnocchi in pesto sauce (I think $8.95?) and an appetizer of fried tortellinis. The entire table decided to order the Caesar salad, priced at $5.95, because the waitress assured us that it would feed a table of four. After a great conversation that ensured my bf's stance in the view of my rating friends, our meal arrived. Holy moly! The portions here were huge........the Caesar salad was a platter of tossed greens in their signature dressing, my pizza was this sinful 12-inch large round of melting cheeses, juicy chicken, and mushrooms and onions. I was lit up with Italian food bliss. The bf's gnocchi was a perfect combination of savory and slightly sweetness in the potato puffs of pasta..... We left, with two containers of leftovers, which incidentally ended up our early lunch on Monday. Great gourmet style pizza when Blondie's is too casual and you need to rest your weary legs. Our waitress was great with her recommendations as well as service, since our food kept on coming in a straight line. I like this place. The decor is classic for a dive eatery and the service was pretty great for 3pm on a Monday. Now, the pizza. It was $22 and some change for a 14-inch pie. The manager called me back 4 hours later and told me that he was sending a driver over to get the cash for the pizza that I already paid for. I understand that COVID is making things more difficult for everyone, but that's no excuse for terrible customer service. My sister has ordered from them several times and every time something was wrong with the order. I should have avoided ordering at all. My mistake. The pizza was good. It usually is. But I ordered additional items that were not delivered. When I called the restaurant to address the issue, they completely blamed it on their driver and refused to correct my order, offering a refund and claiming they only have one driver and he had another order already. A good team is only as good as it's weakest link and it's not a good sign to be just blaming others instead of considering one member's mistake a mistake of the whole company. Not to mention the person, Julia, was very rude. Absolutely ridiculous. As the customer, if I was charged for something and didn't get it after waiting patiently and then being told I have to wait for a refund (credit card refunds take days) instead of being shown even a modicum or sympathy or respect, I think being upset is understandable. This location has consistently gotten orders wrong and then not even had the decency to act apologetic or show any basic respect! What kind of business is this? I won't order here again. This is a place to go if you are desperate or drunk or depressed. Or if you are a hungry hungry hippo, absolutely have to eat immediately, with no other options. I would think most eat here when hungover or high, because it is that type of food. Low quality meats. Highly processed white dough. Super greasy! Really salty! But the kitchen was a bit slow. It was a Saturday night around 8pm and not particularly busy. There appeared to be a lot of wait staff for the number of eat-in customers there actually were, but they must be front-heavy because it seemed like back--of-the-house could've used a little more help. It took probably 25 minutes for us to get our pizza. When it arrived, it was hot!
