After living in Oak cliff for four years, I finally made it to Normas. I went with my friend who's been coming here for like 20 years because she really wanted their chicken fried steak. our server was Jesse and he's amazing. Actually, everybody working was super friendly. I ordered the chicken fried BLT and she got the chicken fried steak. Our main entrées were great. She ordered sides of broccoli, fried okra and mac & cheese and I got a side of onion rings and then we also had the rolls and cornbread. The fried okra and bread were great. I appreciated that they gave us plenty of butter for the bread! The mac & cheese and onion rings were not very good. I will say she told me that they can be inconsistent with quality, but since they have a newer chef, things are getting better. I will definitely be back and try more things on the menu. as far as the mac & cheese, it was not very flavorful and the pasta was way overcooked. The onion rings were also way overcooked or frozen or something too. It's hard to explain, but they were tough. I did enjoy my sandwich though! I also really wanna try the pie, It looks amazing. First off - our server (Wewas is her name, I believe) was excellent. So nice, efficient and accurate (my friend and I were a little "Sally" on December 11). Thank you for being so friendly, helpful and ON TOP OF EVERYTHING! The food - delicious diner food and you are served so much for the price. My friend is a regular - as in she knows the specials of the day, down to the daily featured veggies - so I was in great hands. She had the special beef tri-tips over noodles with the special broccoli cheese and rice side (2) and green beans. She also ordered this for her partner at home so he would be well fed too! I tried the chicken fried chicken (TDF!), mashers with both brown and white gravies on the side, green beans and the broccoli cheese and rice as sides. NOTE - most of the entrees come with 3 sides and there is a cornucopia to select from. The fresh cornbread and rolls were warm and moist...be sure to ask for the house made cinnamon butter. YUM! We both had plenty to take home. I loved the green beans so much that I ordered a side to go. We were too stuffed to try their pies, But NEXT TIME for sure! Norma's also serves breakfast all day. Fried Pickles were salty but the ranch was divine. Rhubarb and strawberry pie was tart. Brown gravy get it! Side dishes were excellent recommend mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and green beans. Having a craving for a burger, and with my husband desiring chicken fried chicken, we decided to visit Norma's Cafe during our drive around town. We picked up our takeout order and enjoyed our meal at home. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the burger! I certainly did not anticipate it being so substantial. The meal was quite delicious, and the fries were also enjoyable. I would certainly recommend this establishment if you are seeking a generously sized burger. Loved Norma's!! You have to go here for breakfast if you are in the area. It is the cutest diner spot with the nicest staff AND amazing food! They have an extremely expansive menu and everything we ordered was amazing! They make in house biscuits and they were INCREDIBLE. You can seat yourself here and they have a variety of booths, tables, and countertop seating! Everything was super fresh and made to order. Highly disappointed and frustrated with our experience. We arrived around 10:15 and were quoted a 15-minute wait. After waiting in the car with the pager, we returned while it was still buzzing, only to be told our seats had been given away and that we needed to wait outside in the sun so we wouldn't "miss" our name again. After finally being seated, we waited over an hour for food that arrived cold and without utensils, while tables seated after us received visibly hot meals. To make matters worse, the waitress spilled hot coffee on my brother. We were offered a remake, but after waiting that long, we were done waiting. When we raised our concerns, our only option was to wait even longer to speak with a manager. The rolls and cornbread were good, but unfortunately that was the highlight. We're now home reheating our food just to make it edible. Very disappointing, especially since we came to celebrate a birthday. Coming in on a Sunday is very busy, understanding but to come in and get sat down with no fork or knife, no straws for drinks, have to wait 2 hours plus from 10:40 to 12:20, got cold food plus a order wrong, did get a offer to get a new meal but why would I wait another 2 hours for the same meal is beyond unreasonable. Four of us came to Norma's before a concert at the Kessler. It was convenient and we really liked the food. I got a short stack of (huge) pancakes and they were great. My friend had the four-vegetable choice and she said they were good - as she slathered butter onto the homemade cornbread and rolls. DH and his friend had chicken-fried chicken and chicken-fried steak and my husband said it was one of the best chicken-fried steaks he'd had in a long time. Service was great and attentive and we enjoyed the whole dinner. It's an older cafe (the first Norma's, I believe). We'll be back for the good homemade food. well, this is the second time I've been in there in a long time. The first time I went I ordered the normal special or breakfast. I ordered three eggs. I paid extra for one ask for Hamm hashbrowns English muffin when I got my order, the eggs were not fixed away. I asked him to be over late. I told him it because as cold as it when they delivered be cold every time I got the the manager that I had before never came to the table to talk to me about anything and I asked for and told she said she had my name in her book Ken and I went and I told the waitress when she the manager here she pointed over to the I said well she told me next time I come in to tell her I was here. My name is Ken and she has me in her book. She never came by. She never said anything about what it happened so you know this is not a good way has changed actually got worse. First time at this location. It was very busy however, we were able to sit right away. Service was a little slow to get our orders in but the food came out quite quickly. Place seemed a little dated. I know it's a an old establishment just saying, some upgrades would be nice. Food was okay, however, not much seasoning on anything. Went in and sat down and the waitress came right over and took our drink order and came back and took our orders. I have been coming to Norma'ssince I was a child and have loved this place but today was the worst experience I have ever had here, the air was on 63 degrees on the inside and I asked the staff multiple times to have the air turned up, I do not go to eat to be uncomfortable especially if I'm paying for the food. I asked to talk to the manager and was told she had to make sure her employees are comfortable and I understand but employees do not pay the bills the customers do! Another lady here was in a sweater and her legs were wrapped in a blanket. i have a picture and if I could post it I would! But I sure will be on other platforms. This is 1950's diner food. Fresh hot and delicious! The service is exceptional because the servers have worked here for years - which says a lot about the management. The bacon was crispy but t a tad greasy, the grits were creamy and tasty, the toast was evenly toasted and when we asked for butter-no problem! My husband opted for tomatoes instead of tomatoes and the serving was generous. They offer pies, cheese cakes, cobblers, cakes-looked so good. T They serve large biscuits and corn bread with entrees. These just keep coming! The chicken fried steak with bacon was ordered multiple times. Christina and Jennifer took excellent care of us. The iced tea was excellent. Well for starters took my Girlfriends family to celebrate her soon to be son-n-law's birthday breakfast. The waitress from the star was very rude and rushing under pressure I guess from the few tables she was serving. Food was not as expected breakfast in a bowl doesn't really define what you will be getting well as much as you will be getting almost seem like it was one egg scrambled and a couple of bites of hashbrowns. The biscuit on top seems to take up the majority of the bowl and a half of one if not, maybe a whole biscuit at the bottom of the bowl. It's a weird conception of having breakfast in a bowl. Would've been more satisfied with it just being on a platter so I could see what the value of what I actually purchased to consume. And was disappointed to see my girlfriend's family with what they had gotten also. It's your typical breakfast at this location is the only one I've experienced. I've been to the other locations at least a couple they seem to do a better job have better service. But they all look fantastic inside clean, good atmosphere. But just could not handle the rudeness. In the morning since it is a small location, you will be waiting anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour for seating depends on the weekends how busy they are this location they were pretty busy. Norma's was a unique place for breakfast. After a quick search of Yelp I decided this was a must try. None of us were disappointed! Daughter got the Belgium waffle - pretty typical waffle and according to her it was very good. My wife got the eggs over medium, crispy bacon and hash browns crispy. Got a definite thumbs up from her. Now I had to be different - breakfast is basic and I don't want to be basic. I can have eggs, omelette, waffles, or pancakes anytime.I scanned the menu and decided on the Chilaquiles. Actually was very good but had to ask for additional salsa. I may have to experiment at home and try to recreate. Couldn't actually give a 5 Star but i would recommend to try. The biggest draw back was the parking.
