    Big Ol' Pancake Breakfast
    Renee I.

We came here for Saturday brunch and it wasn't busy at all; we were seated right away. It has a clean and neutral look to it, with zero frills. The service was very good. Our waiter was smiley, helpful, and her timing was always spot on! The entire staff did a great job with clearing out plates and actively cleaning vacant areas. I got the Big Ol' Pancake Breakfast with Turkey Sausage. The pancakes were delicious - fluffy with a soft crisp around the edges. No butter needed. The eggs, sausage and hash brown were pretty standard. I do wish the juices they offer were fresh squeezed and not fountain juice. Other than that, a pretty good experience.

The food was delicious!! So many choices I had a hard time deciding, but the server was great at helping me to narrow down my choices. The restaurant was clean and quiet. The fish and grits did not disappoint and neither did the "rack of balls".

I have eaten at other Ellen's restaurants, but this was my first time at this location. It has a nice open feel, clean and minimal decorations, and that was just fine with me. The service was excellent! I was sat right away, my waiter arrived at the table within a minute to get my drink, and I ordered within 5 minutes. The food was really good. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and it was very tasty. I will definitely go back to this restaurant.

We came here with my family and fiancé for a quick lunch after visiting the arboretum for pumpkin patch. The place was beautiful and beautifully decorated for Halloween. I got the mushroom Swiss burger with garden salad which was truly amazing and so flavorful. The service was pretty good as well. I highly recommend this restaurant whether is for a quick breakfast or a quick lunch.

Stopped by Ellen's after a day at the Arboretum. I was really impressed, The space is beautiful. It's modern and new and the food was really good as well. I got a grilled chicken salad and the chicken was juicy and fresh. Will come back next time we are at the Arboretum

    Pancake pot pie

This restaurant has been on my Must Visit list for a while. Their commercials are funny & appealing. The pancake pot pie is delicious! Don't let the size fool you. It is very filling. I took a little les than half home. I was also pleased with the size of the coffee cup! I didn't get a picture of the menu, but it definitely had lots of yummy options. I'll be back to try something else soon. I went during the week around 10 AM, so there weren't many patrols in the restaurant. I was seated quickly in the open booth area. I knew what I wanted, so I placed my order right away & it was brought out promptly. They have a couple of TV's in the main area that also has bar. And they played pretty good music at a reasonable volume.

Chilaquiles Verdes with skirt steak and eggs
    Rebecka Z.

We arrived for brunch shortly after 11:00 a.m. and there was only about a 5-minute wait and we were quickly seated in a cozy booth. The dining room was bright with tons of natural light pouring in from the windows, I loved the color scheme of the restaurant and the beautiful tiles on the floor. The waitress quickly took our drink orders and the coffee came out piping hot, so perfect for this cold December morning. I ordered the Chilaquiles Verdes, which were one of today's specials and had my eggs prepared over medium and it came topped with skirt steak, Mexican crema and queso fresco and served with a side of refried beans. The beans were deliciously seasoned and the perfect consistency, not too thin and not too thick and also not completely pureed so they had a nice texture to them as well. The skirt steak was just a little tough and could have been marinated in onions to help tenderize it a bit and would have also lended it more flavor. So chilaquiles were perfection, the chips were thick and cut into bite-sized pieces and the salsa verde had the perfect balance of savor and acidity that brought a bright punch to the dish. Paired with the mellowness of the Mexican crema and the queso fresco, each bite was better than the last. Founded in Sandy Hook, CT, Ellen's also contributes a portion of their profits to support the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting and I think that is a beautiful mission that I'm going to continue to support. I can't wait until my next visit!

Big Ol' Biscuits & Gravy Breakfast - cold were the eggs, hash brown, and, bacon, such a shame! (09/01/24)
    Jennifer Y.

Clean, Bright, and Spacious Diner. Friendly Service. Robust coffee; mug always filled. It's Sunday, so it took awhile for our order to arrive at our table. As for my Big Ol'Breakfast, only my "Biscuits and Gravy" was hot and delicious. I wasn't happy with the rest of my plate that had already turned cold of "scrambled eggs", "bacon", and "hash brown" when served. Cheers!

Sunday wait for 5 at 1 was about 40 mins. The passion fruit mimosa was so good. Their cheesy grits are perfect. The fried jalapeño cheesy grit balls are a must. My friends raved about how perfect the pancakes were. They seemed ok to me but I don't really like pancakes. The best dish was the mushroom, garlic scramble.

Eggs Benedict and chicken salad croissant
    Angela K.

Avoid the chicken salad sandwich. It's nondescript and bland bland bland. The croissant isn't fresh and the chicken salad has little flavor. 1/5 my wife's eggs Benedict was fantastic and the Mac and cheese side is exceptional. Tastes homemade like Mamaw used to make. Service is always with a smile. Prompt and friendly. But they always seat us across from the waitress station which smells like bleach and is very cleanly and tidy but noisy.

Solid choice for breakfast. No wait on Saturday at 10:30a after making a lap at White Rock Farmers Market. Pancakes are fluffy & maple syrup is the real deal.

I could easily go 1 star but the ambiance is clean and modern, actually attractive, so I bumped it up one star. But the food is not good. We went here for Sunday brunch. There was a bit of a wait but overall not too bad. The wife had the shrimp and grits, which, at $23 was overpriced even if the shrimp had been fresh. But the shrimp were not fresh. There was a strong ammonia smell that emanated from her plate, and each shrimp she ate had a strong ammonia taste. That means that the shrimp were old and should have been discarded. She ate a few but feared getting sick so she did not eat the shrimp and instead I ended up paying $23 for bowl of grits. Luckily she did not get sick that day but a restaurant should not put a customer in that position. I had the blue cheese burger and it was nothing short of abysmal. It was easily one of the worse burgers I have ever eaten. Let me put it this way: if that burger had been my first, I would never eat another burger for the rest of my life. The burger was dry, had no flavor, was overcooked, and did even have lettuce or tomato. I asked for medium and got well done. There were big chunks of bacon fat which I detest. The blue cheese was flavorless. It was just awful and I could not finish it. A complete waste of $14. And I always finish my burger. My Bloody Mary was ok and at $12 priced fairly, and my side cup of chili was actually pretty good, no beans, just meat. Overall, it is hard to imagine what would motivate me to return to this restaurant. It was not an inexpensive brunch and honestly it was a complete waste of money.

There is a sentence on CBD Provisions' Instagram that I want to read to you because it is doing a…read morelot of work in very few words. "A brasserie in boots." That's it. That's the whole thing. French discipline, Texas spirit, six syllables, no further explanation offered or required, and if you do not immediately understand exactly what that means the moment you walk into The Joule on Main Street then I do not know what to tell you except that the rosemary tallow fries are going to clarify things very quickly. CBD Provisions opened in 2013 as the Joule Hotel's in-house restaurant, became famous for a crispy pig's head carnitas that required you to pull strips of meat off an actual half pig's head at the table and tuck them into tortillas, which is a dish so committed to its own bit that it belongs in a museum, and then closed in July 2025 for a months-long renovation that brought in new culinary director Sezer Deniz. Deniz trained under Chef Jean Paul Naquin at the Institut Paul Bocuse in Lyon, France. He has twenty-plus years in Michelin-starred kitchens including Alinea in Chicago. He is now making breakfast tacos inside a hotel in downtown Dallas and I want to be very clear that this is a promotion. The room has exposed brick and wood floors and steel beams and mosaic tile and antique mirrors and railcar booth seating and a center banquette and stone tabletops, all of which sounds like it should be competing with itself but instead produces the specific feeling of a place that has been here long enough to know what it is. I sat at the bar, which is the correct place to sit, and ordered the short rib corn cake stack, which is braised short rib and avocado and two poached eggs and a poblano hollandaise and which arrives looking like the cover of a cookbook that does not exist but absolutely should. The poblano hollandaise is the detail I keep returning to. Not regular hollandaise. Poblano hollandaise. Someone in that kitchen made a decision to take a classical French sauce with two centuries of culinary tradition behind it and introduce it to a pepper from Puebla, Mexico, and what resulted is something that makes you look at regular hollandaise and think, you had potential, you just never reached it. I ate the entire thing and then contemplated ordering another one and then did not because I am a person with limits, technically. The CBD Provisions burger is a double smash with American cheese and grilled onion and house pickles and something called fancy sauce, which is a name I respect enormously because it is not pretending to be anything other than exactly what it is. It comes with rosemary tallow fries, which are the reason I will order this burger every time I come here for the rest of my life. Rosemary. Tallow. Fries. Three words that in combination produce something that should be legally classified as a controlled substance. French in method, Texan in manner. Boots and a brasserie. The Joule has been on Main Street for years and CBD Provisions has been feeding people inside it for over a decade, new chef and new tile floors notwithstanding, and it has figured out the thing that most hotel restaurants never figure out, which is that the goal is not to remind you that you are eating in a hotel. The goal is to make you forget entirely. I forgot entirely. The tallow fries helped.

The reservation required prepayment, was nonrefundable, just shy of $5k per night and required additional paperwork. This was my second time reserving this room in the past year. I flew in from Fort Lauderdale, stayed in a smaller suite the first night. The following morning, I was informed that the penthouse would not be available because the current occupant had an emergency and the hotel "was obligated" to allow them to remain. I was moved to a different penthouse, given a significant discount, and treated professionally by management. However, the issue was never the discount. The issue was that the accommodation I specifically selected, prepaid for, and planned my trip around was not honored. The Loft Penthouse was nice. The staff was courteous. But after traveling from Florida for a once-in-a-lifetime reunion, I left with the understanding that even a prepaid, nonrefundable reservation for a specialty suite may not actually be secure. That's something future guests should know when making their plans. What troubles me most is that this occurred during the FIFA Club World Cup, when Dallas was hosting numerous athletes, celebrities, executives, sponsors, and VIP guests. While I have no way of knowing who remained in the penthouse, it is difficult not to notice that a reservation I made nearly two weeks in advance, prepaid in full, and completed additional paperwork for was the reservation that was displaced. If the Penthouse and Loft Penthouse were truly equivalent accommodations, there should have been no issue relocating the guest who extended their stay to the Loft Penthouse rather than relocating the guest who had prepaid for the Penthouse nearly two weeks in advance. The partial refund that was offered, does not restore the experience that I booked and planned around. What I experienced was unfulfillment of a contractual obligation from the hotel's end while I kept my end of the contractual obligation. Whether I was the least important person in the room or simply the easiest to inconvenience - What was done cannot be undone.
