Beef fajita covered in spicy queso
    John J.

Casual and clean Mexico ambiance. Service was great as usual. Chips and three different dips/salsa to start. Love the top shelf margarita. Tried the steak veggie relleno. It was exceptional! Tender skirt steak with a relleno stuffed with veggies and cheese. A must try. The chicken flauta dinner received great compliments as well.

3 sauces and a warm bean dip!

Came to Dallas and found this little place! Chips are nice and 3 little dips! A warm black bean dip was delicious! My son ordered the ribeye fajita on the menu however they did not have them so he settled on the beef! They were pretty good! The flour tortillas were "store bought" the onions cooked down really nice! The chicken in the enchiladas was a little dry and the sauce was not very warm however they had a pretty good flavor! The servers kept our drinks full! Very cozy decorations! I recommend this place! Happy Eating Everyone!

    Beef fajita chimi. Good!

Very good Mexican food in a nice quiet atmosphere with very friendly service. We started with beef and cheese nachos which were a 10 out of 10. In fact my wife said she will get a full order for dinner next time. She got the beef enchiladas and I got the beef fajita Chimi. Both were good, but lacked a little bit of flavor. The salsa is quite good and that helped. They have a full bar and great margaritas.

Woof, I am zero for four in getting good Mexican food in Texas. Seriously, what the heck? MB and I went to this restaurant hoping for their famous margaritas and good Tex-Mex. She liked her quesadilla, but I liked none of my food, nor the margaritas. MB ordered spicy marg but it was not and I found them to be weak and sour. The guacamole "prepared table side" was not, it just arrived from the kitchen and was just okay. The chips were unsalted and too thick. The salsa and beans were also just okay. The tortilla soup and the bean soup both had a watery broth MB likened to dishwater. No me gusta. I think I'll quit seeking authentic Mexican food in Texas and just keep getting the good stuff here in Minnesota.

This place is a hidden gem. I was highly impressed with the food and ambiance. I'm looking forward to going back and letting all of my friends who are looking for authentic and homemade excellence to go here. Phenomenal food. Tastes like it was made with love and clean

....... READ THIS REVIEW ...... Very reasonable prices!!! That makes up for a few shortcomings - and the staff is awesome... even by my standards. While my review is always direct, I like this place. Great energy. But undecided as to coming back. Hummm. Chips = 6/10 On the thicker side as restaurant chips go, but I did ok with them. (I would not buy them in a store.) Salsa = 8/10 Well made, tasty and a gentle warming on the back end. Nice flavor but did not "wow me". Black Bean Dip = 3/10 Shocker... it's puréed as expected but was cold?!? I asked if was supposed to be cold. Evidently it was an error - and they immediately brought me a hot replacement - double portion!! AWESOME! That's the absolutely perfect way to fix a mistake - and a new 1st for me. (They earned many respect points from me on that move!) Well hummm, it's extremely bland. Nothing but bean flavor. Needs salt and some seasoning to make it wake up. But it's free so I can't complain... just sad. I had higher hopes when I saw it... and I've had much better. Frozen Strawberry Margarita = 6/10 - First impressions.. a bit on the small side. The flavor is enjoyable, but it's not handmade syrup. Very silky, creamy and light texture. I prefer a more dense texture (more icy). It's fresh and not melted... but the texture is as if you were drinking the last 1/4 of your margarita. Undecided on this point. Sour Cream Chicken Enchilada = - Moist chicken which is the #1 thing I grade on. Yes, it's moist! However, not a strong seasoning profile, more in the hard to find flavors side. I like the sour cream sauce. Not over powering and has the correct texture. 7/10 Beef Enchilada with Chili Con Carne Sauce = 3/10 - Ok, but a again definitely on the bland side. The sauce is just that - only a sauce... no meat included. Not all memorable. Table Side Handmade Guacamole 8.5/10 - Be sure to tell them you want it made "at the table", otherwise they make it in back. Very good. Extremely creamy with small chunks of avocado (I don't like big chunks - too much). I skipped the jalapeños, and it's definitely a repeat item for me. Beautiful flavor and enjoyable. Service = 10/10 Excellent in every way. 2-3 other waiters always check on me as they pass by. Obviously, the customer comes first here!!! Very attentive and fast service at 7:30pm. Environment = 7/10 Welcoming as you enter and hosted is quick to acknowledge you. Very nice original art on the wall - not stereotypical, enjoyable to look at. (Good move!) Lots of open space allowing you to have privacy but it's still has good energy with all the customer buzz. Over All: 3/5 Although this review is a bit direct (that's my style) I was happy I came by. The people here are so good hearted and you can tell they will move mountains to ensure you are happy!! That was a highlight for me. As for the food, maybe I ordered the wrong stuff... but everything was about 30% seasoned to what I expect Tex-Mex to be. Unfortunately, bland in general. Hard to get much flavor, too gentle and mild. But please note - I do not like "heat or overpowering seasoning to the point you can't identify what you are eating!" I do require more than a minimal seasoning approach. That's because I'm an old and native Texan from Big D.

    Chimichanga with Brisket
    Russell W.

The food was very delicious! Very fresh ingredients, generous portions and amazing brisket. The chimichanga and quesadilla were both awesome. Really liked the beans and salsa served with chips before the meal. The ambiance was nice, the service was very fast and friendly.

When in Dallas you have to go for tex-mex. My husband's go to is Mi Cocina, which is a solid option, but I suggested we try something new this trip. And thanks to Yelp we found ourselves at Gabriela & Sofia's Tex-Mex. We ordered some guacamole, which they make tableside and it was sooo good. And then we ate our weight in chips and guac. I could have been done eating for the night after that, but my husband and I split some fajitas. They were nice enough to do half shrimp (for me) and half chicken (for my husband). I also ordered a skinny margaritas, which I should have ordered sans salt because it was way too salty for my liking and I couldn't have more than a few sips. Overall, some great tex-mex. I know there's so many good options in the area, but this is one worth trying!

    Cheese Enchiladas

Enjoyed the cheese enchiladas and ice tea. Nice chili sauce and crispy chips. Service was good, booths are small and not comfy for a party of 4.

    Enchilada Dinner

A great small Tex Mex spot that perfectly hit the spot. Management and servers were terrific. They have a nice little bar in the back with 3 televisions. Very comfortable and homey feel to the place. Big menu with a lot of options. The recommended the fajitas as that was their popular item, but I went the enchilada option as it was a bit lighter. You get to mix and match the meats and sauces that you want for your enchiladas. Both the ranchero sauce and chile con queso sauce were a solid choice- so go with whatever you are in the mood for.

2 orders of the Mixed Grill for Two (Beef, chicken, and shrimp. Served with mix vegetables, rice, beans, guacamole, and pico de gallo).

I've had a ton of different food items the years, but their fajitas are their signature dish for a reason! It comes out sizzling, fresh, and delicious. Do not pass up on the bone marrow sauce, it transforms the dish to beyond a 10/10! The salsas are always good and then tortilla chips salty and fresh. I start with a skinny margarita w a salt rim, which was good. Our waiter, Abraham, was great! He was very attentive and was very knowledgeable about the menu. We also order the ceviche to start, which was yummy! The crackers were a bit of an odd pairing for me and I stuck with tortilla chips, but overall delicious!! Here in Texas, chips and salsa are such a commonplace experience it's off-putting to pay for them. We ordered the guacamole and the chips and salsa come with it, so that was, I guess, better...but the guacamole was $16, so there's that. The salsa was tasty as was the guacamole, but again, for the portion it's really not worth it. We had the queso flameado, which was yummy and the flour tortillas are good! We split the sirloin and were underwhelmed. For a grilled meats place the steak was very under seasoned and wasn't giving us fresh hot grilled vibes. Meh at best, as were the rice and beans. We ordered elote as a side and it was really the best thing we ate. Service was friendly and efficient! Cocktails average $16ish. Again, for the prices we expected better.

Chris our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took his time walking us through the menu and explaining what made El Carlos Elegante so special. The drinks were perfect. My wife loved her Desert Flor while I thoroughly enjoyed my Modelo Micheleda. Her Surf and Turf one hitter was exceptional. I have to say my Crab Cake was just ok. It tasted a little pasty and very heavy on the bread. The Pulpo was absolutely amazing. Perfect texture and the sauce it was served almost had me licking the plate. The El Machete was incredible from its presentation, to the freshness of the corn tortilla, to the quality of the meat inside. Definitely recommend this. We really liked our Okra + Shishito course, we just wished it had more okra in it. The two things I loved about the Al Pastor was of course the sauce it was served on but the fact that I got to enjoy it like a steak. It was served sliced on a bias like flank steak. Typically Al Pastor is finely chopped and served in tacos and burritos, so this was a different eating experience for me. And of course it was delicious as well. We cannot wait to come back and try more of the menu.

That visit checked every box -- the food, service, ambiance, and overall hospitality were all exceptional. What really stood out to me then was the attention to detail. I had casually mentioned that one of my cocktails wasn't quite my taste, and Harry personally reached out afterward to say they'd gladly adjust it next time. That kind of thoughtful follow-up leaves a lasting impression and is exactly the sort of hospitality that elevates a restaurant experience. Unfortunately, this recent visit felt like a completely different restaurant. We decided to do a combination of à la carte dishes along with the Experience menu after being told this version would feature entirely off-menu items, which genuinely intrigued us since Ihad also done the Experience previously. At the start of dinner, we were asked about allergies and dietary restrictions. I clearly explained that I have a mango allergy and do not eat beef. Our server then asked whether I ate other meats, and I clarified yes -- and even specifically mentioned that if the machete dish was beef, please still include it because my friend could enjoy it and I really wanted her to try it. He confirmed it would be the sirloin version, so we happily agreed not to modify that course. So imagine our surprise when one of the first dishes arrived dressed with a mango vinaigrette. Thankfully, we barely caught him quietly mentioning "mango" as he set it down. We immediately looked at each other thinking, "Didn't we just discuss the allergy?" It was disappointing, but unfortunately also representative of the overall service throughout the evening. Our server seemed disengaged, inattentive, and often not fully listening. Empty glasses sat untouched, opportunities to order additional items were missed, and at one point we were simply handed the check without even being asked if we wanted anything else. We also ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and ended up pouring it ourselves for most of the evening because our glasses were rarely refilled. I completely understand not leaving the bottle tableside if walkway space is limited, but repeatedly needing to get up ourselves to retrieve it felt out of sync with the level of service one expects from a Michelin-recommended restaurant -- especially at this price point. Then came the machete dish. Instead of the sirloin version we specifically discussed, we received the vegetarian potato version. When the server asked how it looked, I politely explained that we were disappointed because he had specifically told us it would be the sirloin preparation. At minimum, I would have expected another protein substitution given the earlier conversation about what I could eat. I'm also still unclear whether the Experience menu was truly "off-menu" as described, since several dishes -- including the halibut -- appeared familiar. Had that been communicated differently, we likely would have skipped the Experience altogether and simply curated our own meal. At the end of the night, spending over $500 while pouring our own wine, nearly being served an allergen we explicitly disclosed, and receiving dishes different from what was promised made for a deeply disappointing experience -- especially after such a phenomenal first visit. It honestly felt sad more than anything because I know how wonderful this restaurant can be. I'm not sure what changed in the last five months, but the difference was significant.
