My first dining experience was at the Oaklawn location in 1993. It was there that I learned about the secret off menu dip. Regulars ask for " Bob Armstrong Dip" named after a Texas politician . It's a great start to delicious meal. Took a client to lunch today at Forest Lane location. He had lunch # 9 Beef taco Al carbon, 2 cheese enchiladas with chile con carne, guacamole. Spanish rice, and refried beans. I ordered the #1 cheese enchilada Grande with chile con carne ,onions ,rice ,and refried beans The salsa and chips were very good. Atmosphere , service ,and food were outstanding! Menu has many choices too. 30 plus years says a lot about this Tex - Mex heavy weight restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant. I enjoyed their fajitas! Came in for lunch! $16.95 for the combination chicken and steak and it's a good portion. Good salsa and sweet tea. Our server was a on point. We sat outside, a lot of bird poop on the chairs but that's my only complaint. read more

This review was written in situ and benefited solely on basis of the food which I considered about as good as txmx gets. I had the basic 2 enchilada lunch which included a tamale for some reason. Service was quick, salsa very fresh and adequate as well as refilled. But the kitchen was slow and oddly enough the food arrived a bit lukewarm. OTOH did that mean it wasn't microwaved but instead actually heated in an oven??? After all the temp outside was maybe 20 and the entire room was a bit chilly. Let's say it's so, a big plus. Whatever, the lunch special was specially good for whatever it is that txmx is these days. Overall you can't really say this is a 5* but it's the best in area. read more

Pretty good Tex Mex place if you are in the area. The sour cream enchiladas were really good but the drinks weren't anything amazing. Tasted more like Margarita mixes. The salsa that came with the chips was actually really good as well. My husband also liked the beef fajitas. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. read more

I knew this place would be tasty when the parking lot was full in the early afternoon on a Friday. I love their salad and the consistency, as well as the hatch queso since it had a kick. I ordered a side of tortillas (like 3), and they charged. First time that ever happened to me, but hey everyone is different. I enjoyed the sour cream chicken enchiladas, I added a little queso on top to just give it a little more flavor. I absolutely loved the puffy taco! I would go back just for that! This restaurant is super cute and is near the hospital, so we stopped by after a visit. The lunch menu was good, but I thought pricey. The service was great it was slow since it was lunch and we were well taken care of. My daughter and I ate at this place today, sorry we did. The Chile Riano and enchilada were awful. There was more sauce on them than anything else . The chips had a soapy taste. I googled it and said it could be stored close to chemicals or improper handling. Improper cleaning, rancid soapy taste from cooking with old oil, repeated consumption of rancid fats may increase long-term health risks (oxidative stress, etc.). Maybe even, too much lye. While good Tex-Mex is all over the place in DFW, Matito's stands out as the best we've had in the area lately. Excellent food, fantastic service, and a memorable dining experience all around. We recently had a large reception/celebration dinner and the staff at Matito's - Roberto in particular - went above and beyond to ensure a fantastic time for all. I was a big fan of the carne asada (probably the best I've ever had), and my wife's shrimp were amazingly delicious. Worth the drive, time, effort, and money for us all around. The best Tex-Mex we'll find in this part of the Metroplex (or just about anywhere else) within recent memory. We'll be back for sure! read more
