Great authentic Mexican restaurant tucked into the neighborhood area. We went on a Friday night, there was a 30 min wait but we were able to get a drink from the bar and sit and wait and time flew. They have maintained the Wednesday Enchilada Dinner special that was the "go-to" for decades at tex-mex restaurants in Texas for decades, going back into the 1960's. However, the meal went downhill from there. The complimentary chips had a distinct burned oil taste. The nice server brought me a fresh batch, but those, too, had the same problem. Neither the red nor green salsas had enough spice to mask the off-putting flavor of the chips. The Tres arrived, a hot plate consisting of a crispy beer taco, a cheese enchilada, rice, and beans. Just left a Saturday family lunch here and I don't think I could have even imagined a better family weekend late lunch. We came with our little ones in tow and the restaurant was pretty packed on a random Saturday at 1pm. We were quickly seated and opted for some draft beers, a margarita, and some guacamole. We got the chicken mole, spinach enchiladas, combination fajitas, and a chicken quesadilla. All the food was delicious but the service was next level. Our server couldn't have been nicer and she even overheard us speaking about a birthday and we got a full birthday celebration by what felt like the entire restaurant staff!! Today we dropped in after the White Rock British and European car show. I was hungry due to a light breakfast around 7am and it was now 1:00pm I ordered Charley's Choice. It had a chicken enchilada with mole, a shrimp enchilada with poblano crème sauce, and a brisket enchilada with guajillo sauce. I subbed in charro beans and salad for rice and refried beans. The shrimp are good but the brisket and chicken with those sauces are amazing. Salad was excellent and the beans are very good. Went to El Vecino for the first time this evening because a lot of our friends in the neighborhood recommended the spot. The water cups we received were filthy with debris and food stuff floating at the very bottom. Didn't notice until after drinking and eating which was left us feeling really disgusted. Showed the dirty cups to the person at the front host area and I wasn't met with any care but with an attitude of passing it off. No sorry, just excuses, no acknowledgment of how that would affect our experience of eating the food and worrying about the level of cleanliness of everything else we ate. I had a rather unpleasant situation yesterday (Mon. February 10th), around 3pm with a very ill-mannered waiter. I was informing him of my allergies, as I'm required to do by my medical profesional. When the waiter questioned me about my epi pen. I reiterated that I was simply informing him of my condition and he berated me about the importance of epinefrin. I went there for happy hour, and the cochinita pibil. NOT to recieve a impertinent verbal assault by someone who isn't a medical provider. My husband and I went here for a quick bite and drink. It didn't not disappoint. This review is based on 2 drinks and some apps. We started with their guacamole which was pretty darn good. We are guac snobs, and they definitely passed the test. We split a full chicken quesadilla. The chicken was seasoned to perfection. It wasnt greasy. Easily enough for 3 people for an appetizer. I definitely recommend this. The 2 drinks we got was the Mexican side car-yum and will get you right. The house margarita was pretty sad though. I was disappointed, but I don't believe in wasting alcohol. The margarita is the only reason I gave it 4 stars. I got it on the rocks. Maybe I should have gotten frozen.
