Consistently great! Best Mole in town. Their Cochinita Pibil is 100% spot on. When is the lat time you've had a taco salad inside a fried taco bowl? Great authentic Mexican restaurant tucked into the neighborhood area. We went on a Friday night, there was a 30 min wait but we were able to get a drink from the bar and sit and wait and time flew. The service and staff were all really friendly. The food came really quickly. I ordered the Taco Salad and loved it. It was very flavorful and it didn't need the dressing. I stopped by on a weekday for lunch. I had read so much about El Vecino on Yelp that I couldn't wait to try it. The margarita was satisfyingly cool and refreshing. However, the meal went downhill from there. The complimentary chips had a distinct burned oil taste. The nice server brought me a fresh batch, but those, too, had the same problem. Neither the red nor green salsas had enough spice to mask the off-putting flavor of the chips. The Tres arrived, a hot plate consisting of a crispy beer taco, a cheese enchilada, rice, and beans. The flavors were disappointingly bland, especially the enchilada. The beef taco had chunks of potato, which made it taste more like a hearty soup than a Tex-Mex staple. read more

They have maintained the Wednesday Enchilada Dinner special that was the "go-to" for decades at tex-mex restaurants in Texas for decades, going back into the 1960's. Just left a Saturday family lunch here and I don't think I could have even imagined a better family weekend late lunch. We came with our little ones in tow and the restaurant was pretty packed on a random Saturday at 1pm. We were quickly seated and opted for some draft beers, a margarita, and some guacamole. We got the chicken mole, spinach enchiladas, combination fajitas, and a chicken quesadilla. All the food was delicious but the service was next level. Our server couldn't have been nicer and she even overheard us speaking about a birthday and we got a full birthday celebration by what felt like the entire restaurant staff!! The green salsa served at the table is super tasty and has some heat kick. The red salsa they serve is also super tasty. The steak fajitas were super moist and tasty. We had the sampler platter which had a little bit of everything and it was really good. My bf had the fajitas and I had the shrimp tacos. It had a chicken enchilada with mole, a shrimp enchilada with poblano crème sauce, and a brisket enchilada with guajillo sauce. I subbed in charro beans and salad for rice and refried beans. The shrimp are good but the brisket and chicken with those sauces are amazing. Salad was excellent and the beans are very good. She had a breakfast enchilada- it's a chicken enchilada inside an omelette. She loved it. Chips and salsa are so addictive. And the skinny margs are the best here too. Service was good. The food here is delicious...by far the best Tex-Mex I've had in Dallas. I came during lunch, while they were busy my coworkers and I were sat instantly. They offer a good selection of menu options and I like that they offer a lunch menu. I opted for the half and half lunch fajitas. Our food came out in a good amount of time. Our family has had a Christmas Eve tradition for about 5 years, same order, same time to pick up the order and consistently outstanding food. We have never been disappointed in El Vecino the owner (John) is great and the staff always on point. We make the hour drive to several times during the year to eat at the restaurant, but the Christmas Eve pick up dinner is just too good to not brag about. read more

Went to El Vecino for the first time this evening because a lot of our friends in the neighborhood recommended the spot. The water cups we received were filthy with debris and food stuff floating at the very bottom. Didn't notice until after drinking and eating which was left us feeling really disgusted. Showed the dirty cups to the person at the front host area and I wasn't met with any care but with an attitude of passing it off. No sorry, just excuses, no acknowledgment of how that would affect our experience of eating the food and worrying about the level of cleanliness of everything else we ate. It left a gross experience for my family and I. I do not recommend. read more
