Not sure what's up with the mixed reviews on here. Before you go, know what you're going to. High end Mexican cuisine similar to what you'd find at a fancy restaurant in Mexico City. Delicious craft cocktails and an ambiance to match. The service is also impeccable. We went on a HOT summer day and the air condition was working just fine. The restaurant does have an open kitchen so that could cause some warmth but it's not hot by any means. We started with a couple of cocktails and they were super tasty. I really liked my white Negroni and my dining partner got the twist on a manhattan. The white Negroni had coconut advertised and I'm not a big fan but the server asked me to try and that he'd take it off the bill if I didn't want it. It was super tasty and I'm glad I got it. We had several courses (see all the pics!) but the highlights to me were the scallop tostada and the snapper. That scallop tostada thing was a Michelin star worthy chefs kiss! The crunch. The softness the avocado crema. Oh man. All in all an amazing meal. read more

Y'all...I'm sorry. I've sat on this review for a while now, wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt and support a family-owned, local restaurant. But at this point, I feel obligated to alert the Dallas dining public that Oloyo has been having ongoing issues with their air conditioning system. And it's...bad. And...they're not giving ANYONE a heads-up. And...they're acting like it "just happened." It's been about a month since I had dinner here with some friends. Their AC was completely non-functional that evening. In a tiny space with an open kitchen and sunlight pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, the entire place was basically an oven. We sweated through our clothes and were digging through our purses trying to find hair ties to pull our hair back. Bizarrely, the staff didn't even acknowledge the issue until we talked about it, at which point we were told it had just happened. None of our meal was comped, and honestly it just made things worse that the only gesture of "hey thanks for staying and dining with us anyway" was that they brought out some glasses and poured literally 2-4 sips of the bottom of a flat bottle of pet nat into each of our glasses. Yikes. The reason I'm posting this now is that another friend of mine (whom I hadn't warned) ate dinner there this week and ALSO said that there was NO AC. I don't know if this is bad luck and it just happened to break again, or if it hasn't been functional for the past month, but either way, yikes. Yikes for the experience of sweating through an insanely expensive dinner. Yikes for the restaurant not closing until they can get this fixed. Yikes for the restaurant not even giving diners a heads-up. Like, hey, you might not want to shower before dining with us, because you will need a full shower after. Yikes, yikes, yikes. AC issues aside, the food is tasty and creative, but nothing left a lingering impression or memory. It would be a GREAT meal at a much lower price point, but at the absolutely astronomical prices they've set (fair warning: if you plan to brave the AC issues, also check the menu prices in advance), the food should be outstanding. It's not quite there. There were other issues, too. For example, we had a somewhat early reservation (around 6 pm), and they were already out of ingredients for multiple cocktails. Things like this I can excuse as bumps in the road getting a new restaurant up and running. What was harder to excuse was the fact that we waited literally 30 minutes past our reservation time for our table to open up, and there is NOWHERE to sit or even stand while waiting, so we awkwardly lined up along the wall in one corner and constantly had to step out of the way of servers. Standing awkwardly for half an hour past our reservation, dripping sweat, watching the people sitting at our table lingering over their dessert and making us wait -- not because we were trying to make them feel bad by watching them, but the restaurant is SO small that we were practically standing over them -- well, it wasn't a great start to the meal. Nor was the fact that we were told we'd have a drink "on the house" that I guess ended up being the aforementioned splitting of the quantity of a single glass of flat pet nat across our four glasses. I'm really pained to have to write such a devastating review of a local restaurant, but after hearing that the AC issues are ongoing a month after our visit, I just couldn't NOT say something. Again, maybe our visit a month ago and my friend's visit this week were the ONLY two days that their AC wasn't working, but...idk. At any rate, the restaurant seemingly isn't giving anyone a heads-up if their AC isn't working on the night of your reservation, so y'all deserve to know that this is a possibility, and at the very least I'd suggest calling in advance to ask. read more

Have been waiting eagerly for Oloyo to open so I was excited to snag a reservation for two at the bar last month! Food was phenomenal but the prices can be a little hard to swallow. Tamales, huarache, mole, and octopus were among our favorites for the night. The aguachile was perfect and super well balanced, and the paletas dessert was excellent. Everything masa-based here is truly incredible; loved the shatteringly crisp tostada especially. Flavor combos across the board were extremely well-balanced. Just be prepared to spend at least $400 for two, even without alcohol. (Mocktail program is excellent though!) I am curious about the more casual spot the team is building next door, and I'm also curious enough that I will probably return again when they roll out a tasting menu. However, it's a harder sell for friends who are not as willing to spend on a nice meal. Also - and hopefully this has been addressed since our visit in June - the interior was quite warm. read more

Food was great and the experience was great until the owner came up to us and told us that someone was waiting for a table and only reason why that upsets me is because there was another table right next to us that clearly had been there way before us and still there after we were told that comment. Oloyo is such a special place. You can taste the heritage, love, and soul in each dish as well as the drinks! Everything is sourced as locally as possible which means for more flavorful, nutritional dishes as well. I had the Aguachile de Temporada and a glass of Verdita which complimented eachother perfectly. The aguachile had a lovely blackberry compote that balanced the heat elegantly and the homemade tostadas meant I could scoop up all the extra sauce. The bluefin tuna was incredibly tender- it just melted in my mouth! Meanwhile the Verdita was such a treat from Bartender Jose. It was definitely top two martinis of my life- the hints of chile was more for the nose and throat than spice on the palette. I'm so honored to have had dined here. Oloyo is more than a restaurant, it's an experience to be shared with people you love most. Even the atmosphere felt like a traditional, upscale, restaurant straight from Mexico City. Even if you order just one thing off the menu, you'll never forget it. read more

We were worried about the AC comments (if you ever went to Cry Wolf you know they had the same issues at this location) but it was totally comfortable. Service was lovely and the food was outstanding. They made my husband's birthday special and we were happy to meet Jonathan and his staff. We will be back. Give this local spot a try! read more

We had reservations and waited for 45 minutes, which would have been fine but the air conditioning was clearly broken. They had two enormous fans running. There was no place to sit for waiting patrons, it was awkward and with the sweltering temperatures, I was ready to pass out. We left before we were sat. I truly wish this place the best but this is insane. At one point earlier in the day my husband and I were considering cancelling. Cancellation fee is $200 a person. It is degrading to your customers to hold fees like that over their head while you can't even provide a seat or air conditioning for them. Maybe the food is great, butI don't think even the best food I've tasted in my life could wash the bad taste of my experience out of my mouth. $25 cocktails right next to a Dominoes Pizza, served with no air conditioning. read more

I just want to say the marketing for this restaurant is amazing. As I was driving down Gaston one evening, I saw there was valet next to the dominos pizza. Clearly peaked my interest and I decided to google the address which pulled up this restaurant. I immediately found a reservation, and may I say I love the intimacy of the restaurant. 23 seats, but still private enough to fully enjoy the experience by yourself or with a partner. We were seated immediately and had a full explanation of the menu along with the recommended dishes from our server. I will say my water glass was never empty lol. We ordered the Aguachile de Temporada even though I am not a fan of raw items, this definitely changed my mind. The presentation of this dish was absolutely gorgeous and the flavors on top of the light salted tostada, chefs kiss indeed. Once finished, we were served our Sope Gordo, which did not disappoint. The brisket literally melts in your mouth! For our final dish we ordered the Pescado Zarandeado, personally for me was the star of the show! I even asked if it were possible to order two lol. Absolutely amazing. I definitely will be back and brining more friends to experience this place. read more

The space, dishes, lighting food all very special but are they in a $500 for 2 people category?? Food was delicious for sure. We shared the number of dishes recommended by our waiter and each had a cocktail and a glass of wine. We enjoyed our meal but the bill came to almost $500 for 2 people. I knew it was going to be $$$$$ but it's well above what we're used to paying for a great meal at a top restaurant in Dallas. We probably won't be back. Tip: if you ask for wine by the glass recommendations, look at the price before ordering if a $500 bill seems like a lot to you... read more
