TETELAS A trio of house-made corn masa pockets
Fatima H.

Tried Jose recently and really enjoyed parts of the meal. I highly recommend the ceviche and the Guava Pink mocktail -- both were fresh, flavorful, and refreshing. The tetelas were good but not great for me. They could have used a bit more flavor or juiciness and felt slightly on the dry side for my taste. Big shoutout to our server and the staff -- they were really kind and accommodating. We were a little pressed for time since I had tickets to a play, and they did their best to get our food out quickly so I could eat and make it on time. Really appreciated the great service and care.

We were here for Saturday brunch. Made the reservation ahead through Open table and got there by the time, we were seated right away and were given chips and salsa Salsa tasted great. We ordered Short Rib Enchiladas, Chile Relleno, Cheese Quesadilla & chicken fingers for kids Also ordered Street side corn and Queso Con Rojas Queso was cold by the time we got to table, corn was okay. Short Rib Enchilada were great, Chile relleno were in very watery salsa. Cheese Enchilada and Chicken finger were ok! Fries were pretty good, kids loved them. Overall mixed bag of experience with food, great ambiance

Chips and salsa

My wife, daughter and I came her for lunch. The decor is very nice, I enjoyed the vibe right away. To start they give chips and green salsa to the table for free which is always a welcome surprise! As far as drinks my wife has the frozen mango margarita, and I had the smoked tequila old fashion led and switched the Tequila out for Mezcal which ended up being a $2 up-charge that the waitress did not mention. We had a second round of drinks, we both had the Horchata Sour. All the drinks were good. We had Mango & Crab salad as an app. Overall it fresh and tasty. We had a side of Plantains which were delicious! We split the Pork Belly Tacos and the Ribeye Bowl. Our daughter got the Chicken Quesadilla. Both the Tacos & Quesadilla come with rice and beans. The Quesadilla is a good portion especially for a kid. The kids menu also is interactive and comes with crayons so the kids can be entertained which is always a plus! The Pork Belly tacos were ok but the portion for the price was disappointing. I enjoyed the flavor of the rice and beans. The Ribeye Bowl was good, they keep all ingredients in separate areas of the dish. I felt there should have been a little more rice but overall it was a good dish. The waitress disappeared for a while, I wanted hot sauce for my tacos and my daughter wanted sour cream for her quesadilla but once the food was delivered to the table she never came back to check on how everything came out. I ended up eating most of my taco and rice without hot sauce and asked a separate waitress for hot sauce. Overall the experience was enjoyable, and the food was solid. This is a restaurant with a nice vibe with good food.

A great family friendly restaurant with plenty of room for strollers or high chairs. The covered patio was lovely with a fountain. The dishes are on the higher end which is obvious with where it's located. The ribeye bowl ($22) had great quality but the portion seemed small. The langostino enchiladas ($26) come with rice but no beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, etc. Everything was good but not great. They have valet parking so we did street parking which was fairly easy to find.

Elevated Mexican food that was pretty solid. They provide chips and salsa, but it seemed like the chips were ones that I could buy from the grocery store for $2. I had a frozen hibiscus drink that was delicious and the Tacos Carbon were also pretty good. They have a super nice patio that was heated which was well needed on a cold day. There is also complimentary valet.

Love Jose's breezy and mellow atmosphere. Whether it's for their happy hour or dinner, delightful and efficient service it's been with each visit. Intoxicating are their Seasonal Frozen "Passionfruit" and "Mango Chamoy" Margaritas. As for food, while their tacos and salmon al pastor are good, excellent are their "Ceviche" and "Chile Relleno"! CHEERS!

My wife and I really enjoyed our whole meal experience here. Absolutely loved the DIY ceviche Service was great Keep in mind it's either valet parking or park somewhere along the street from across

This was a fascinating visit. We were led behind the kitchen through what looked like a secret door into a small private room. It was a pretty cool place with a nice long table, probably comfortable for up to 10 people. The food was better this time compared to last visit!!! The guac was my favorite, and was such a step up from last time. The other dishes ranged from just okay to pretty decent.

This place was very underwhelming. We came for happy hour, order some margaritas which were not good. Also, ordered a beer. The beer had left over food in the glass as shown in one of the pictures. Then our water glasses were dirty, you can see left over lip marks on the top. You can also see our table was dirty, stains on it with a piece of hair. The tables next to us had chip crumbs under them. Do not recommend. There's plenty of other places!

Ceviche.... Delicious

In reality, this meal was a 3.5 for me sadly. I would love to start by saying the restaurant is absolutely beautiful inside, it felt like we were being whisked away to a resort in Mexico, and our waiter was extremely kind, patient, and explained all the food perfectly. The short version is that everything our waiter offered as a Chef's Special, not seen on the menu, was absolutely fantastic. The aguachile and Texas peach salad were truly phenomenal eating experiences. The shrimp aguachile was super fresh and bright and tossed in habanero ash making it all black like squid ink. What a cool eating experience. The Texas peach arugula salad was so refreshing and the bits of toasted quinoa provided an excellent crunch. The goat cheese spread on the bottom of the plate made me want to lick the bowl and the dressing it was tossed made it one of the best salads I ever ate. However the tacos I had, the Tacos de Tacha and Carbon were basic and meh. What a sad departure. The tacos de tacha is the chef's creation that changes regularly and this week was the chef's take on a Big Mac in a taco. I'm not joking. It tasted fine. But honestly it just felt like it was trying to compete with velvet taco or something. It felt gimmicky and uninspired. My steak taco was also just fine. Felt thrown together last minute. I've had better tacos at a gas station. If you want to know what José does the best, it's the green salsa that comes with the chips. I wish I could order it by the bucket.

The chips and salsa were absolutely amazing- the red salsa had a smokey flavor and was served warm. The enchiladas were flavorful, but could have used more sauce. The waiters were kind and helped us move tables from being directly in the sun. Patio was a nice place to sit during the good weather we were having. While their mocktail list was small, both that we tried were great and provided a great alternative if you don't want to drink!

The location is super cute and always packed. You definitely need a reservation or have to go super early to get a spot. There is valet parking as well as street parking, which can get a bit crowded. I've had a ton of different food items the years, but their fajitas are their signature dish for a reason! It comes out sizzling, fresh, and delicious. Do not pass up on the bone marrow sauce, it transforms the dish to beyond a 10/10! The salsas are always good and then tortilla chips salty and fresh. I start with a skinny margarita w a salt rim, which was good. Our waiter, Abraham, was great! He was very attentive and was very knowledgeable about the menu. We also order the ceviche to start, which was yummy! The crackers were a bit of an odd pairing for me and I stuck with tortilla chips, but overall delicious!! My friend ordered the steak quesadilla and thought it was tasty too.

I wished it came with more than 3 tortillas or at least 4 since I don't put too much meat in my fajitas. I also tried the hickory grilled ribs. It was kinda salty, but the barbecue sauce was ok. The meat was very tender & falls off the bone. The fries that it comes with were alright. There was a little of wait, but I didn't mind since the food was good. Our food did take a while. Our waitress was very attentive & filled our water. There was seating inside & outside on the patio. I was glad that we were sat outside since it was a beautiful day today. Besides inside was kinda dark. Overall, the food is a little pricey, but totally worth it. A must are their fajitas.

Here in Texas, chips and salsa are such a commonplace experience it's off-putting to pay for them. We ordered the guacamole and the chips and salsa come with it, so that was, I guess, better...but the guacamole was $16, so there's that. The salsa was tasty as was the guacamole, but again, for the portion it's really not worth it. We had the queso flameado, which was yummy and the flour tortillas are good! We split the sirloin and were underwhelmed. For a grilled meats place the steak was very under seasoned and wasn't giving us fresh hot grilled vibes. Meh at best, as were the rice and beans. We ordered elote as a side and it was really the best thing we ate. Service was friendly and efficient! Cocktails average $16ish. Again, for the prices we expected better.

Chris our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took his time walking us through the menu and explaining what made El Carlos Elegante so special. The drinks were perfect. My wife loved her Desert Flor while I thoroughly enjoyed my Modelo Micheleda. Her Surf and Turf one hitter was exceptional. I have to say my Crab Cake was just ok. It tasted a little pasty and very heavy on the bread. The Pulpo was absolutely amazing. Perfect texture and the sauce it was served almost had me licking the plate. The El Machete was incredible from its presentation, to the freshness of the corn tortilla, to the quality of the meat inside. Definitely recommend this. We really liked our Okra + Shishito course, we just wished it had more okra in it. The two things I loved about the Al Pastor was of course the sauce it was served on but the fact that I got to enjoy it like a steak. It was served sliced on a bias like flank steak. Typically Al Pastor is finely chopped and served in tacos and burritos, so this was a different eating experience for me. And of course it was delicious as well. We cannot wait to come back and try more of the menu.

That visit checked every box -- the food, service, ambiance, and overall hospitality were all exceptional. What really stood out to me then was the attention to detail. I had casually mentioned that one of my cocktails wasn't quite my taste, and Harry personally reached out afterward to say they'd gladly adjust it next time. That kind of thoughtful follow-up leaves a lasting impression and is exactly the sort of hospitality that elevates a restaurant experience. Unfortunately, this recent visit felt like a completely different restaurant. We decided to do a combination of à la carte dishes along with the Experience menu after being told this version would feature entirely off-menu items, which genuinely intrigued us since Ihad also done the Experience previously. At the start of dinner, we were asked about allergies and dietary restrictions. I clearly explained that I have a mango allergy and do not eat beef. Our server then asked whether I ate other meats, and I clarified yes -- and even specifically mentioned that if the machete dish was beef, please still include it because my friend could enjoy it and I really wanted her to try it. He confirmed it would be the sirloin version, so we happily agreed not to modify that course. So imagine our surprise when one of the first dishes arrived dressed with a mango vinaigrette. Thankfully, we barely caught him quietly mentioning "mango" as he set it down. We immediately looked at each other thinking, "Didn't we just discuss the allergy?" It was disappointing, but unfortunately also representative of the overall service throughout the evening. Our server seemed disengaged, inattentive, and often not fully listening. Empty glasses sat untouched, opportunities to order additional items were missed, and at one point we were simply handed the check without even being asked if we wanted anything else. We also ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and ended up pouring it ourselves for most of the evening because our glasses were rarely refilled. I completely understand not leaving the bottle tableside if walkway space is limited, but repeatedly needing to get up ourselves to retrieve it felt out of sync with the level of service one expects from a Michelin-recommended restaurant -- especially at this price point. Then came the machete dish. Instead of the sirloin version we specifically discussed, we received the vegetarian potato version. When the server asked how it looked, I politely explained that we were disappointed because he had specifically told us it would be the sirloin preparation. At minimum, I would have expected another protein substitution given the earlier conversation about what I could eat. I'm also still unclear whether the Experience menu was truly "off-menu" as described, since several dishes -- including the halibut -- appeared familiar. Had that been communicated differently, we likely would have skipped the Experience altogether and simply curated our own meal. At the end of the night, spending over $500 while pouring our own wine, nearly being served an allergen we explicitly disclosed, and receiving dishes different from what was promised made for a deeply disappointing experience -- especially after such a phenomenal first visit. It honestly felt sad more than anything because I know how wonderful this restaurant can be. I'm not sure what changed in the last five months, but the difference was significant.
