It was quiet when we first entered, had a cocktail, and left, only to return two hours later for Happy Hour. They had a great deal, but it's for the bar only. Staff was super accommodating and helpful with selections. It does get packed, so try to be there early to grab a comfortable seat. There was a moment we were forgotten, but they did add complimentary item for the offense. To me, their customer service is top-notch. Lunch on a Thursday. Love the ambience and service was pretty good. However, my cheeseburger while pink inside was burnt on the outside. It just did not have a good flavor at all. I've had it many times and this was just not cooked right. Could've sent it back, but we waited a long time to get it and neither of us had a lot more time to spend at lunch. I ordered a mushroom and sausage pizza to go. I wish I had opened it to look at it when I was still at the restaurant. When I got home, it looked ok except it had a black ring around the outside. The bottom crust was all burned. Every bite tasted burned. Terrible. This did not need to happen. 1) "Chicago style pizza" would never be served in Chicago (hot honey and jalapeño? Really?!?!) Throw out the current "Chicago Special" and replace it with this: * flat crust * garlic * grilled onions * sausage * pepperoni (if sausage is not your thing) * green peppers Cut it in squares and wrap it in a paper with a picture of Italy on it. You want a TRUE "Chicago special"? This will do it for you. 2) They advertise serving a "Chicago Handshake" but do not have Old Style. You cannot have a Chicago Handshake without Old Style. Might've been the best thing we had! Caesar salad: We are Ceaser salad people! It was great one of the better one out there. T Chicken Tenders: They were pretty Good didn't expect to like them that much. My only complaint is they got real soggy when you got to the mid/bottom they were soggy! The honey mustard dipping sauce was elite. Chicken Parm: It was a pretty dish but it was cooked a little too long some pieces tasted burnt and were a little too hard. I would give it another try one day to see if this was the truth. The Chicago Special Pizza: It was just ok I wanted to like it way more. It Just lacked flavor it didn't taste like much at all. I originally was a fan of Houston's. Houston's closed but is owned by Hillstone (also on Preston, but closer to Northwest Highway). Those geniuses stopped selling chicken tenders, so I gave this place a try. Before I begin, I want to clear up some confusion about this place. If you intend to eat at the GREEN building location near SMU, you want to eat at the Hillcrest location. If you want to eat at the Preston location (in the strip mall parking lot with Central Market), go to this location on Preston. I say that because some genius posted the wrong building photos on each address location. The photos of the green building are NOT for the Preston location! Having said that.... The location is on the corner of Preston & Royal... in the same parking lot with Central Market. Parking was great because it's in a strip mall parking lot. So there was adequate parking. Great location, great vibe on the inside. We were able to walk in and get a table in 30 minutes. We waited at the bar and tried an appetizer. Then got seated when our table became open. As I said, we ordered an appetizer. Try the smoked salmon! That with the sauce is AMAZING! I wasn't too crazy about the pita bread pairing. They could have used a crispier bread to contrast it. But it's worth getting. My wife ordered a grilled chicken Cesar salad. She loved it. The dressing was more like a vinaigrette. I ordered the chicken tenders with honey mustard and mashed potatoes. All great choices. The mashed potatoes had carrot bits in them (I'm not a carrot guy), but the mashed potatoes tasted great. So I didn't mind the carrots. We tried the pizza. We ordered a Chicago pizza and added pepperoni and sausage. That with the hot honey was a smash hit. To be honest, the pizza wasn't so great the next day. If you're a fan of Houston's chicken tenders or smoked salmon, you'll love this place. I won't say that DL Mack's copied it. They just had the sense to keep it on the menu... and by coincidence, it tastes just as good- if not better. Great food. Great service. Great price. I highly recommend. The menu changes every 90 days or so. Favorites disappear, new things arrive, prices change. The happy hour was bar/ bar seats only, then it went restaurant-wide, then it went back to bar seats exclusively. They took my favorite drink off the happy hour, the frozen paloma and more disappointingly, I just never know what to expect when I walk in any more. Bar used to be PACKED and now it seems not so much. Nothing that disappoints more than a restaurant with no consistency in menu, happy hour and general expectations. I live a few hundred yards away and will be going a lot less now unless they revert back. I wish this was the consistent neighborhood spot it is for periods of time. I gave it three tries to dine, tried to reach the General Manager to give direct feedback but did not get a response, so giving it here. We enjoy the food and the cocktails are delicious. The service absolutely sucks. Every time we come here we dine at the bar. The bartenders are too busy doing their side work to take care of the guests. The last time the food runner dropped off our pizza and never looked back, she wanted to get back to playing on her phone. The bartender came back in from taking out the trash, never washed his hands and started making drinks. They were all on their phones. After telling us multiple times the pizza would be out soon our waiter finally admitted that another server had taken our pizza and that we would have to wait at least an additional 25 minutes for the pizza.
