We had been hearing great things about Fond and decided to stop in for dinner. We were warmly greeted and seated right away. The dining room is super cute and very clean and inviting. Our server was great and took the time to answer all our questions, but if you are reading this I am sure you are curious about the food! We started with the Caesar salad with Pancetta which was one of the best salads I have ever had. The Fried Olives were very well made but I wished they had a kick of spice in them. For the main course we had the Pork Schnitzel which was absolutely excellent. Great flavor and the pickled peppers were an excellent addition. We also had the Goodness Gracious pizza which was extremely flavorful and delicious. We ended with the Blackberry and Coconut soft serve with Maldon Salt Olive Oil. The food here is good, I really don't understand all the 5 star reviews though, it's not great food. I got the Detroit pizza and Caesar salad. The salad was not all that flavorful, I think maybe they didn't put enough dressing on? The pizza was fine, the meatballs and ricotta was a good combo, but it was super greasy. I ordered the ice cream, it comes in a tiny little paper cup. I'd give the 4 stars for the food, but deducting for service. For one, when I arrived there were all these people standing haphazardly in the lobby, wasn't a line. Nobody at the door taking people's names. There was an open bar seat so I went in and sat down, got yelled at because you have to wait in the "line" to get a seat at the bar. The internet said this place had an elusive burger that is top quality. I immediately made plans to get my hands on one. At 11am this past Friday I made a call to the place seeing how it works. I was told they typically sell out of the burger by 11:45. I figured I'd still head over and get the pastrami sandwich. Around 11:20 I called back to see if I could place an order for a later pick up of the burger. I was told no. Come 1pm for my lunch hour I decided to head that way and try my luck. As I walked in the first thing I asked the employee behind the counter was "do yall have any burgers left?" To my surprise she said "yes". I decided since my luck was so good and it was Friday I'd order both the burger and the pastrami sandwich. The burger was beautiful. Comparable only to one of NYCs best burgers from Au Cheval. This is by far the highest quality burger I've had in Dallas. The first bite was absolutely perfect. I look forward to coming back. P.S. The pastrami sandwich was good but nothing to write home about. I got it to go. I actually enjoyed it cold the next day. I think the pastrami could turn heads if it had more pastrami. I found this place through Resy and I'm glad we did! It's my first time trying Detroit style pizza and I didn't know what to expect. We started off with their mocktail, the server mentioned it tasted like margarita but it tasted more like a cherry lime refresher to me. Then we got the sous vide carrot and it was a Del in flavor combo! We then split a pizza and I'm glad we did. It was thick and very filling so I only ate maybe 2 slices and called it a night and took the rest home. The brussel Crowe had bacon pieces on top that was cooked to perfection! The texture of their pizza dough was also to die for! We finished the night off with a coconut soft serve with olive oil and sea salt which was magical. This was a last minute dinner plan, and given the great rating, I wanted to check it out. The menu is simple, and pizza is its star. We got the Goodness Gracious pizza, with a side of hot honey, and the combo was divine. However, it took over 30 minutes for the pizza to come out. And when it did come out, the pizza itself was lukewarm--as if it had been sitting out for a while. (I also saw that a table that was sat after us got their pizza first.) I liked the decor and the fact that there is bar seating in addition to tables. While I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to eat here, it was a solid choice for a nice meal. read more

This spot has an impressive and well-deserved 4.8 stars, and since we rarely make it to downtown Dallas, I was excited to give it a try. I was actually in the area visiting a needlepoint store and needed a good lunch nearby. A bookmark led me here, and it turned out to be the best choice I could have made. One quick note: the lunch menu I found online did not match exactly what was available today, so check out my photo if you want the most up-to-date version. I had my eye on the club sandwich because it included the magic ingredient: pork belly!!!! That decision paid off big time. This sandwich easily ranks in my top three sandwiches in Dallas so far. It was absolutely spectacular. Whatever is in that aioli deserves its own round of applause. I also tried the chicken lemon rice soup. The flavor was nice, but it would have been even better if it had been served hotter. Still, the sandwich more than made up for it, and I will be dreaming about it for a long time. The pizzas at another table looked really good too. Service was friendly and efficient, and the bathrooms were clean. All in all, this place is definitely worth a stop when you find yourself downtown. And they happily validate parking in for the garage in the building. read more

In the midst of corporations deciding whether or not to invest in office space and real estate investors converting office spaces into luxury residences, Fond is bridging the gap between being a business lunch stop or the locals' daily culinary obsession. The Food, Selection, Quality, Service, Staff, and Chefs merge to create a pure breath of fresh air. The Dallas foodie crowd is hard to please, but this restaurant is the kind of place where you can tell them exactly what you prefer - and they will make it happen. From what I've noticed, if you leave here disappointed, you may be the problem. Having been an avid supporter of Frank., I was so excited to see Jennie Kelley was opening a restaurant with her SO. We went to one of the Fond AD dinners, Love Language, and boy, was it wonderful. Eight courses of some of the most inventive, flavorful food with stories that enhanced the experience. We were greeted with an amuse bouche of gnoccho fritto with guanciale along with a glass of bubbly. As we enjoyed, we walked around and took in the ambiance of the restaurant. We don't live nearby and haven't had a chance to visit the restaurant for normal business hours, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The guests were all sat together at one very long table, similar to Frank. Once we were seated, we started on the main courses: Course 1 Beef Heat Tartare, Course 2 Smoked Scallops with Crispy Pancetta, Course 3 Thrice Cooked Steak-fry with Roasted Onion, Course 4 Mezcal Passion Fruit Sorbet, Course 5 Garlic Soup (one of my absolute favorites), Course 6 Spaghetti "Meatball" Bolognese with Mozzarella and Arrabbiata Sauce, Course 7 Lamb Neck Pierogi, Course 8 Chocolate Covered Strawberry with Pistachio & Pop Rock Crumble. With each course, the hosts gave us the background of how they developed the recipe, what the food meant to them, and encouraged feedback and discussion. My husband and I stopped by Fond on Monday night before a hockey game to enjoy their aperitivo hour. We knew the place had opened months ago because we'd followed Frank Underground years ago and saw the buzz about the new restaurant downtown, and it did not disappoint! Parking was a breeze (and there's complementary validation in the lot beneath the building), and the restaurant's entrance was very easy to find. Fond is a very cute space and I really liked the ambience while we perused the menu and figured out what we wanted to order. We ended up getting three apps (the carrot, the octopus, and the fried olives), as well as the Better Half pizza to split and soft serve at the end. All three apps we tried were quite delicious: the olives had an excellent brininess and paired well with the roasted garlic aioli, the roasted tri-color carrots were perfectly cooked and the bed of whipped goat cheese + honey was delicious, and the octopus was probably the most deliciously flavored and textured version of the dish that we've had in quite some time. Highly recommend all of those items! The Detroit-style pizza was also excellent. Loved the crispy, pillowy crust, and the flavors of the tart sweet vodka sauce, the salty sausage, and the slight bitterness of the broccoli rabe blended super well. We didn't manage to finish all of it, but our pizza leftovers reheated well in the toaster oven and were still delicious on the second day. And we couldn't resist grabbing a cup of the soft serve to finish! The olive oil and Maldon salt toppings were truly inspired; I feel like I may have to do that whenever I eat ice cream at home from now on. We'll be back for their NYE communal dinner and can't wait to experience that journey! Three of us had that and I would go back for the french fries alone but the hamburger was very delicious. One of our friends had the lemon chicken orzo soup And she got one to take home. In any case, when it's on the menu, try it. The Japanese milk bread bun is soft and fluffy and delicious on its own. The patty is super flavorful, and the cheese, crispy pancetta, slow roasted onions and dijonaise turn it into a party in the mouth. The tavern pie, aka pizza is also delicious, and pretty much anything else on the menu. And the Fernet Branca brownie with chocolate mint ice cream - oh my, heaven. Weather was perfect so enjoyed the time walking downtown to this lovely building full of great foodie options. Service- OUTSTANDING! Our waitress was amazing and did her job exceptionally well plus had a great attitude.....so rare these days. We even met one of the owners and served by the chef. The mortadella sandwich is everything described in the glowing article in D magazine. My BF is a big fan of that sandwich. He is Italian and is from NJ, so sandwiches are a pretty big deal. What a wonderful restaurant! With their limited dinner hours during the week and no weekend hours as of now, spring break week (no traffic coming from the burbs!) was the perfect time to make the trek downtown on a Friday evening. Well friends, the trek was certainly worth it as I haven't come across an establishment that's so unique in their offerings in a long time [the last one was the now closed cry wolf :( we ended up ordering several items off their shared plates menu - Fried Olives - absolutely stellar and didn't even need the yummy dipping sauce to make it work! Tin Fish was not bad, they had a few options and we went for the spicy mussels (had a slight powdery note in the end). The Octopus was fantastic, perfectly cooked and the breadcrumbs were a nice touch without overpowering the protein. The Bone marrow was roasted to perfection and the mustard seeds sauce on the side was a nice touch but was certainly missing a bit of oomph if you ask me. Maybe a sprinkle of sea salt would have done the magic? The White beans and sausage was fantastic! The light broth had so much flavor to it, beans cooked perfectly and there was so much fennel flavor coming out of the sausage. Was a perfect dish for a cloudy/rainy day. We had high expectations for the carrot dish and I don't know if it was because it was rushed to our table because it was forgotten, it just felt okay. The goat cheese sauce on the bottom was very nice but the cook or seasoning on the carrots felt lacking. Bummed about this one as we had high hopes for it :( for our main dish, we got the pepp in your step and that was delicious and was devoured in no time. Our kiddo also seemed to really love the house made soft serve that day which was strawberry! Our server was also very knowledgeable with all the natural wines they serve (they only serve and sell natural wines here!!!) we enjoyed a superbloom rose which was a beautiful pour and had a lot of funk to it. They also sell any of their wines to go (20% off menu price) so we picked up several skin contact wines to prepare for summer. I had a quick lunch at Fond and really enjoyed the experience. Service was very professional and helpful and did just the right amount of checking in with us. The spot is airy and open and has a nice comfortable, cool design. Parking, which they reminded me to validate, is very easy in the underground lot- just punch the option for a ticket and Fond will validate it for you. No need to be worried about going downtown with parking handled for you. I had the meatball sub- it was difficult to choose among the sandwich and salad options but I really liked the soft fresh and warmed roll. The meatballs were light and delicious and it was a tasty sandwich. I subbed a cup of the lemon orzo soup instead of the chips and the soup had some delicious flavored oils on top and was good on a cold day. Only thing- I could eat a bit more so be prepared to get something else to help fill yourself up if you have a big appetite. Pricing is a bit on the high end but for the quality and nice service it's to be expected. I can't wait to return to try the pizza next time and some of the other interesting dishes. Went to a conference but had to ditch because I was way too hungry. Searched online and found this place. 15-20 min walk from Omni Hotel which was relaxing. Got there and immediately greeted. Sat at bar although they had room to spare. Probably seats about 30. Ordered a cocktail which was delicious the. The better half salad with anchovies and better half pizza. Both were fantastic. If you're not familiar with Detroit style it is basically crispy, butter deep dish without the nasty doughyness. I wanted a "shareable" (appetizer) but the pizza was not by the slice. I ended up eating more than half pizza bc I'm a cow but it would be easily shareable between 2-3 people. I then had my arm twisted, figuratively of course, and got some homemade mango ice cream because they make it fresh every day and how could I not? It was delicious and wasn't too icy which is hard to pull off. If you don't want olive oil and salt on the ice cream let then know. Fond is the rare combination of a great atmosphere as well as unmatched food to create a unique and unforgettable dining experience. In our world of restaurants being either "Instagram Friendly" with mediocre food or fantastic food with no character, they've been the arbiters of a spot that is gramable with incredible fare. Chefs Brandon Moore and Jennie Kelley have created a special space that is already, in just over a year of opening their doors, a Dallas staple. The service team is unmatched. Lindsay, Reagan, David and Francisco have all served me in one way or another. I've been more times than I can count and have never had a less than excellent experience. Their daily specials are something to set your calendar to. Their seasonal menu never disappoints. With the amount of options they have, you'd think that one would be a miss. To date, they've not had one. An obvious choice is the pizza with the Brussel Crowe topping my list of "must haves". Lesser known items on the menu such as the steak frites (seasonal) and the Jimmy's Sausage are also undefeated. If you're taste skews more towards the light end, the salads, tinned fish and The Carrot are spectacular. Their natural wine selection is the best in Dallas. It's obvious that hours of research go into each selection on the menu. Jennie, Brandon and the entire staff are incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to your choices and have always steered me down the right path. One of the few places that accommodates all; if a thick savory Detroit style pizza and a couple cocktails is your jam or a clean salad and a glass of wine is your journey, they've got you. From the greeting by their doorman when you walk in, to the friendliest of farewells that I've ever received on a Friday evening, Fond is one of the only place I recommend for an otherworldly Dallas night. read more

Very nice Dallas find! Was in town for the day and wandered a few blocks from my hotel to grab a quick lunch at Fond. I had one primary server, but the staff pitched in for each other seamlessly and casually. The environment is bright and open with fun decor and fresh herbs. My rigatoni and sausage was nicely spiced and even better with some red pepper flakes. Portions were good--substantial, but not regrettable I would come back...if I lived here! read more
