Hole in the wall near the JFK memorial across from El Centro. If you blink you will miss it. They have the same menu they've had for decades. Reasonable prices CASH ONLY. It's narrow with maybe 3 tables and lunch bar with about 6 or so seats. 1 cook and 1 cashier. Good food and good people. Been going here for 20 years. For a quick 5.00 breakfast sandwich or hotcakes or burger or patty melt....this is my spot. The food and the people are consistent. You know what you're getting each time you pop in.

This place is great and super affordable! We'd just landed and needed something to eat. We walked in this diner and sat at the counter. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We came back the next day and the waiter remembered our orders! It's pretty small but clean. The menu was pretty standard and straight forward. The food was tasty. This is downtown so there is street parking and I think it was a garage near. Looking for a quick bite that's not expensive, this place is it! They have carry out available also.

    It's been remodeled!

Five count em,one,2,3,4,5 Stars! Guy, you ask, how can an ancient, small past its prime, downtown breakfast, lunch spot earn 5 Stars? Easy, it's an Awesome Vintage Classic! Let me insert an aside here to help those that are new to Dallas and may not understand. We tear old stuff down here. Just that simple. If this little place was anywhere except here it would have been gone decades ago. The piece of real estate by itself is too small to do anything else with and it's attached to a building that's going anywhere so...it remains for now. I have no idea how old the Record Grill is. It sits off Record street next to the Dallas county Records building. There were two Dallas County Records building employees picking up and eating in, when I was there. This particular corner of Dallas just steps from where JFK was assassinated has remained busy throughout the years. Ive driven by here hundreds of times and told myself, you need to go eat there before its gone. Well, today I did and it was a doozie! Counter with about 8 stools, grill in front of it and about 5 small table behind. Thats it. 3 emplyees, one on the grill, one taking orders and working the fryer and one rotating from the back. When I took a stool directly behind the grill and started looking around, the guys cheeseburger next to me caught my eye. Easy decision. When in doubt order the cheeseburger right. Safe bet since the grill in front of me had a couple cooking and they looked great. My hamburger was above average but ,what made this experience great was the cross section of Americana that I experienced inside this tiny diner. The service was great,my fellow diners engaging and the Old School feel of the place priceless. There are only a handfull of these types of places left in all of north Texas. If you want to see it, I recommend you get by before its gone..just Go!

I'm kind of obsessed with this place now. Total hole in the wall, all cash spot. They have a simple and well priced menu. It's no frills. The staff works hard. I had the chicken tenders with two sides - YUM. It was perfect for a cold day. The mashed potatoes were to die for. And the chicken wasn't like overly fried, I appreciate that. Will be making this my go to lunch spot.

Record Grill has been a staple in Downtown Dallas for decades! This is literally the smallest dive that packs the biggest punch . They have a huge variety from breakfast to lunch to snacks. Their hotcakes are fluffy and delightful and you simply must have some coffee. **** They accept CASH ONLY**** 2 hotcakes, 2 eggs , 2 meat- $9.60 Breakfast special- $7.00 Side of grits- $2.50 Coffee- $1.75 Lemon pound cake- $3.00 TOTAL- $26.65

When you are surrounded by 100s of downtown restaurants you should always take it back to the classics and check this place out. It's only open for breakfast and lunch so your window is limited but worth it. Also, word to the wise it is cash only so come with some coins. The space is small like your old timey grills. It has an extended counter space with like 8 seats and a few tables against the wall. Maybe on a good day you can fit about 30 people in there. The menu is basic with your lunch and breakfast options but it's all made in front of you Waffle House style. I ordered the Big Boy Breakfast (pictured) and it was good. Not amazing but for only $6.50 well worth it. Speaking of price most entrees are less than $9 so you get your fill without the high prices. The staff is friendly and easy to talk with and your food comes out quick. Overall it's worth a trip if you're looking for a good classic breakfast or lunch without all the fuss

They added candles to the birthday cake that we brought in, which was very nice of them! Apps: Cheese Beignets and Zucchini Chips - both were tasty! The beignets were small and not too heavy. I enjoyed the herby sauce on the chips, but wished it was served on the side! Mains: English Pea & Potato Pierogi, Mac and Cheese, and Vegetable Pasta - they were very nice to make a vegetarian pasta dish for us, and it was delicious! The tomato sauce was flavorful. The Mac and Cheese was also perfectly cheesy and I enjoyed the garlic breadcrumbs. My favorite was the Pierogi -- savory potato's, sweet brown butter sauce, and fresh greens to balance it all out! Highly recommend!

She brought great vibes and was nothing but sweet and attentive the whole dinner. 100/10 Let's jump into the food portion! ***Starters:*** Avocado dip - DELICIOUS! This had a lot more flavor than what we expected and the homemade chips made it the perfect appetizer. 10/10 Rainbow Sushi Roll - this was also great. The roll tasted fresh, but it is on the spicer side so don't order unless you can handle some heat. 9/10 ***Entrees:*** I got the Beverly salad and subbed my shrimp for seared ahi. According to our waitress, she said the receipt would reflect the Seared Tuna salad since there is an upcharge for the substitution but the food came out just like I ordered. My salad was fresh, bright and didn't leave me feeling heavy. 10/10 My cousin ordered the Maple Salmon. I believe the waitress said they now use gochujang sauce instead of maple. My cousin really enjoyed her meal and said she would definitely order it again. 10/10 The bachelorette ordered the steak frites, she ordered it to be cooked medium but it came out a bit more rare than she preferred. She still ate it as is and said it was tender and flavorful. 9/10 Lastly we ordered the lobster mac, this was sooooo good! The mac was runnier than I would like but the taste made up for it. I would order it again. 9.5/10

The dining room was comfortably serene with just a few select patrons present when I arrived. A charming gentleman promptly extended a warm welcome and escorted me to an excellent, highly desirable table. I also noted a beautifully structured, intimate bar area within the space, which adds a lovely touch of elegance. To begin my mid-day refreshment, I requested a crisp Lemon Drop Martini, which was executed to an absolute standard. For my luncheon entrée, I selected the Beverly Salad from the menu. The efficiency of the kitchen was highly commendable, presenting the dish to my table mere minutes later. The presentation was immaculate, featuring a remarkably grand bowl beautifully abundant with premium, tender meats. Often times after it's all said & done, you wonder - was that worth it? Thankfully, that is NOT the experience I had at Haywire! I ate here on August 9th, 2025 and enjoyed everything about it. I was with a large party but would love to return for a more intimate experience. On this Saturday, my younger cousin was graduating from Parker University so I was in town for the weekend. At around 1pm, I was one of the first to arrive at the restaurant. Unfortunately the parking is a bit confusing. There was construction being done on the same street when I went but there's a parking garage for customers that's difficult to navigate AND the elevator that connects wasn't operating at the time which was an issue for many (but not me, I got a good spot & walked). My party hadn't all arrived yet so I took a gander. Upon entering the tall doors, the space breathes southwestern elegance: wooden structure, leather seating, separate dining areas with highlighted ranch-style art. The abundance of space gives it an open-concept feel. The lighting fixtures are modern, the space was dim but not too low, with an option to utilize the large windows also. I was quiet impressed at the overall presentation. When my party did arrive, I wanted to keep it simple so I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad and a Hibiscus Haze with Vodka. The table shmoozed as we ate some of the appetizers: the Crab Dip & Green Tomatoes, both amazing. The food did take some time but, considering it was 10-12 of us, that's expected. The Hibiscus Haze was splendid: smooth & flavorful, a great concoction. Cobb salads are usually pretty thick but this one was HEARTY. It came in a large bowl stuffed with the all the toppings. The dressing it was tossed with was well balanced but could've used a tad bit more. With some pepper & a little ranch, I was set! I defeated the salad but it also left me stuffed to the gills. Satisfying meal that I would order again! There are tons of restaurants to dine at in Dallas & sometimes you never know which is worth your time. Despite the inconvenience of parking, I'd bet my bottom dollar that this is a good place to eat. Whether you want a fine dining experience, it's a special occasion or just want a good drink with a meal, Haywire has enough to satisfy all interests.

WILL NEVER BE BACK!…read more HATED. EVERY. MOMENT. OF. THIS. PISS. POOR. EXPERIENCE. EVERY. SINGLE. MOMENT. VALET. NOT. FREE. I called before deciding where to eat on a Sunday afternoon to confirm parking situations. Parking is not easy downtown so this played a huge factor in figuring where, out of the dozens of brunch places, to eat. Definitely a bit of a walk to get accommodated at the actual restaurant so valet seemed the most reasonably enticing for parking solutions. Well, I called and spoke with the lady at the front desk. I confirmed with this little girl FOUR TIMES IF 1. They had valet available today 2. If it was complimentary. Come to find out it was not complimentary. And $7 for parking just doesn't sit well with me when there are ample free options else where with satisfying beverage, meal, ambiance, and service. All of which, I DID NOT GET AT HAYWIRE. I come in and although I had a reservation that I was 10 minutes early for while noticing tables available, I was told by that same girl who lied to me about parking I needed to take a seat. Reassuring me that it would only take two minutes to be seated. 10 minutes later I see coupled and groups walking in and guess what? They were immediately sat. While I am waiting to be sat at one of the three clean tables I'm staring at. I finally tell my boyfriend I am about to eat at the bar and he goes to the hostess stand to inform them our frustration and guess what? We were sat immediately. I get seated and there are two standing fans placed next to my table that's blowing my hair all over the f*****g place. I had to tell them to turn them off. What? No AC in this place either?? We immediately ordered and got the elk tacos for an appetizer. The tacos are WAY too spicy and way too salty. Too spicy AND too salty?? They're a no for me. You literally can't taste anything because of both! I HATED these little tacos. Probably the worst I've ever had. Ever seen someone attempt to pinch a bit of salt to season and the entire top comes off?? These tacos. My boyfriend had the chicken fried steak. He loved it (loves spicy and seasonings because he's Cajun) but I tried it and it was over seasoned. Again? Couldn't taste what I was eating. The mashed potatoes were divine. Enjoyed those! And then the green beans were tasteless. Hahaha what a joke. I ordered the barbacoa chilaquiles and it was literally too spicy to eat. Inedible. My eyes teared up, my nose started running, and I couldn't taste anything after a couple bites of the spice. I was so f*****g over this place I just ate my boyfriend's mashed potatoes and we left. If I had it my way, I wouldn't have paid for a thing here. They don't deserve our money and I HATE they got a cent from me. I'm livid. I hate this place W I L L N E V E R B E B A C K

The deviled eggs, dragon…read moreroll, and pigs in a blanket were all tasty, and that's honestly the highlight of our visit. Unfortunately, everything else was a struggle from the moment we walked in. We didn't have reservations, but eventually found seats at the bar. Given how busy the place was, we figured the bar would mean faster, more attentive service. We were very wrong. We ordered two beers, a non-alcoholic drink, and three appetizers. The drinks arrived, and the appetizers followed about 10 minutes later -- fine so far. But there were no utensils. We had to ask for them, and we asked for plates as well, which never came. The empty dishes from our appetizers sat in front of us for a solid hour with no one clearing them. The bartender who took our order never once checked on us. With 3-4 people working behind the bar, only one server approached us during the entire 40-minute wait between appetizers and dinner to ask if we needed anything. The bartender told us twice that our food was "coming out shortly" -- and still, 40 minutes passed. When dinner finally arrived, my order was wrong. I ordered the Mongolian Short Rib, listed clearly under the Entree section of the menu. The bartender claimed I had ordered off a "happy hour" menu -- one I never saw or was told about -- and had swapped it for BBQ Pork Ribs without saying a word. Knowing a replacement could take another hour, my friend swapped plates with me and took the ribs. He had ordered the steak frites, which, for a rare steak, should have taken no more than 5-6 minutes to prepare. The third entree, fish and chips, was just okay -- a bit soggy and not particularly fresh. To top it all off, after everything we dealt with, the bartender never asked how our meal was or if we needed anything else. The food has potential, but the service was inattentive, disorganized, and frankly unacceptable for a busy restaurant that should know better.
